As a beginner with a stock F-150 FX4 living in Boulder County, this series is perfect. I wanted to learn to do fairly easy trails while not dealing with obstacles that require a spotter and this delivers. Thanks.
I thought I had a bad back for a long time but it turned out to be a bad hip. Watching Roman walk I think he might want to look into his hips and new hip joint or joints. Best thing I ever did 3 years ago and no more back or hip problems.
When you showed the 46 psi I was instantly in google haha, I run my mojave on the street at 36 psi and it rides like a dream I can't imagine being in the dirt at more than 30.
I really like this series. My family went to steamboat springs last week on vacation and because of this series I decided to drive to CO instead of fly. On my way back to Dallas I did Buffalo Pass then drove down and did Saints John to North Fork to Georgia pass. It was a great cap on the vacation.
Love these series. It's like Rick Steves for off roading! p.s. interesting to see how much more Roman likes the Tesla than the Inneos Grenadier. They got rid of that super quick.
Time to get serious off road tires for the the CyberTruck. You get the Falken for pretty much all your trucks… CT needs some adequate rubber for where you take it…
Well that brought back memories! If I remember, it was around July of 1995 when I tried to do that trip in my 1986 Toyota Xtracab 4X4 F.I. 4 banger. I had no problem reaching the top from Leadville, but the road was blocked on the way down to Alma by a huge snow drift that covered a couple hundred feet of the road, so we returned via Leadville. I do remember the pass was in the clouds and the air was full of electricity (that buzzing sound with hair at attention) so we didn't stick around long enough to be electrocuted! Yes, Leadville says it is the highest city in the country, but Alma bills itself as the highest incorporated "town" in America at maybe a football field's length higher than Leadville.
I ran Mosquito Pass back in July with MHJC. Airing down is definitely the call. Not too challenging, but I would emphasize that the road gets pretty shelfy past the intersection with Birds Eye Gulch. If you hate shelf roads, not for you. Otherwise, the views are great and the driving is pleasant if you’re aired down. We turned around due to the snow on the way to Alma back in July and rain Birds Eye Gulch down. Great, very different, trail, with lots of trees and water (at least back in July). Gets you back to just outside Leadville and a good option if you’d like to head back to that side of the pass. I finally met an actual CT owner today and he couldn’t have been more positive about his truck. He’d had it only a month, so only driven on roads and the beach so far, but he’s got off-road plans. He’d driven from Seattle and I met him at the new superchargers in Park City and he also really enjoyed the highway experience. For all the haters, the fact that you can run real trails and also have a comfortable ride with easy charging for a thousand-mile trip is pretty unique. Not sure how I feel about the looks, but Tesla tech does still seem to be ahead of every other EV and there’s no question that the charging network is still the only viable solution for long-distance EV travel IMO. Please keep these trail videos coming. They are great.
With the power outlets, and available power, on EV and some other trucks I would take a coffee machine and toaster or microwave oven and have some fresh coffee and hot pastries at the summit.
@Kristian_Saile It's a off-road trail put in by the miners in the late 1880s. Its the highest off-road pass in Colorado. Cars do not travel it. You never been on it. I camp, fish and travel on it alot.
Thank you for another excellent trail review! I've been wanting to do Mosquito Pass for a little while now. Looks fun! I did Webster Pass a week after you posted your video on it. Great times!
@rich… Misquoting a pass is like cheating. There are only two cases where you could technically misquote a pass. #1: You misquote it by trying to use in an event the pass was not issued for; and #2: Misquote the date or time by trying to use it on a different date/time of the proper event. Both are practically cheating because you try to get into an event the pass is not valid for. 😃
Thank you for another informative & entertaining wheeling video!! Your timing is perfect. We're doing Mosquito Pass with Bronco's Super Celebration West event next week. Cheers
Off-road EVs should have a drone landing pad and charger incorporated into the design. It would be like having another camera that can leave the vehicle.
I really miss Colorado. I love the cold snow weather. Soo beautiful. I love the look of the cyber truck but end up getting a Rivian because it is a more short and narrow truck
Thanks for another trail guide video. I am hoping to get back to Colorado and do some of these trails, so it's nice to get a preview. Not a big fan of the Cybertruck, but I'm glad you guys bought one so I could see what it can do. Seems like a capable vehicle, but just can't get past the design aesthetic.
So you took the easy route, EB over Mosquito is easier than WB, going EB you can run it with a 2wd and decent ground clearance. Mother Nature rearranges Mosquito every year, that’s one reason why it doesn’t open till late July, and typically closes by October.
I love the guy who has his cybertruck for 2 months and has never driven it offroad or in deep mud/snow. He calls it "the most capable vehicle off the lot". Pretty sure his view is skewed toward mall crawling.
Thanks for the memories. We left Colorado 14 years ago, were in Leadville in June, but didn’t do Mosquito. We did in a couple dozen times during the 12 years we lived there. These tours are great for us. We’ll probably never do that pass again, unless I do buy a new Defender. I sold the Rubicon for a Ram 4 X 4. Not must use of a Rubicon in Kansas.
América is a continent , from argentina to Canadá, and the tallest city in America is in Peru with over 16.000 ft over the sea level. And the tallest big city, actually the talest capital in the world is la Paz bolivia with more than 11.000 ft.
In comparison, Rivian still refuses to add lockers to the R1T, and the tire pressure does not update if you drive at slow speeds ~ 10mph (rivian minimum 18.6mph for tire pressures to update). So yeah this awesome video series by Roman/TFL is not about the truck reviews, but their point is very valid. Gotta have the right capabilities.
22:26 You say the fault about the Cybertruck, is that when you let off the accelerator pedal, it rolls back? I'm guessing you didn't see the 'HOLD' feature on 'STOPPING MODE'... It was on the offroad screen, but I'm guessing you never saw this? Just think it deserves to be said, to be fair to the Cybertruck it was operator error...5 months and you never found this? Love the channel BTW, just wanted to clear the FUD
He probably meant that it still rolls back slightly despite this mode. At least in our Model Y, the hold mode still takes a 1/4 rotation to connect the brakes on a steep incline. Whereas our Rivian connects immediately in hold mode. They might have fixed it for the Cybertruck, but if its still a 1/4 rotation or so, that's the difference of slipping off a rock and not
Wheres the part on the gnarly part on the Easy side just after you cross the top and pass the "lakes" if they are still there? Maybe the road is fixed.
Alma is the highest "incorporated town", not city (Leadville). Alma has less than 300 people, it's also the other end of the pass he's doing in this video.
I wish I could move to the states, I would move to Boulder Colorado, I was there when i was a kid, my dad was working there for a while, it was a beautiful place. If only I could get a green card lol

With good tires the weight would help too, but it would probably be a big fiddly going forward / reverse so often. Might take a while for someone to make a plow mount though. Plows are also 12v, the cybertrucks low voltage electric system is 48v, so you'd also need a beefy step down converter. Not sure the electric system would be happy with that load.

@mcsike7264 for the 2 reasons that Roman pointed out. It's not all around capable, and as someone who suffers from lower back pain as well, so I know where he's coming from, the ride comfortably.

Love the series. Not enough views, but the series should rack up views over time.

Not surprised you decided to air down from nearly 50 psi, that's back breaking!
Btw that jogger you met was funny!

Copper Mtn has 250kw superchargers in V4 cabinets. Closer than silverthorne. In Leadville the max is a 60kw shared CCS.
