    @StudyAcademic - FL stands for flight level. The term is used when an aircraft is at 18,000 ft or above. (i.e- FL380 = 38,000 ft) The vertical speed can be changed by the V/S button and the knob on the right (or left) side of the MCP (autopilot cntrl area). The more you increase the V/S the lower the speed you will be at because your pitch would be too high. However, the less you decrease the rate in the V/S the more your speed will go up because you're descending.

    Most of those airports that are small, but not all, have RNAV approaches which is VOR to VOR navigation and then a non aircraft intrument guided approach (manual). There are other approaches also into smaller fields like VOR DME 1, 2, and 3. I do prefer the ILS though because it's like an integrated RNAV arrival since you can take off the autopilot / approach hold and fly the plane manually when you like.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  14 років тому

    yeah, at 40nm distance turn on NAV hold so your aircraft can read the localizer, and then once you are told by ATC to continue your approach and contact tower on what ever frequency, you turn on the approach hold.

    Thanks!!
    It is a POSKY plane,when you land in SNA (Santa Ana) you have to land "first brick" because the runway is very short for 757s 737s Airbuses etc.

  • @fsx767

    ILS approaches control the altitude after the final approach fix. ILS is used on CAT 1, 2 and 3 weather conditions as well, be it rain, snow, low vis. or a combination of all three.

    A few corrections ;-)
    -You will set the Localizer Course not the Heading.
    -The Transponder is only the part of your Radio-Stack with the 4 Digit Squawk Code.
    -When you switch "Nav 1" ON at the Audio Control Panel (The very lowest part of your stack) you always hear the Morse Code of the Localizer (you will check that once). Try to switch on the Marker (MKR) only. So you will here the OM MM and IM as you are overhead them.
    -You won't hit NAV until cleared for the ILS.
    -You won't hit APP until within an area where you're safe to decend (as APP follows the Glideslope). So no APP without estbl. on the localizer ;-)
    -You would normaly switch on the LDG lights when passing FL100.
    - The VASI should be 2red 2white

    @RPC5181 The safest thing, at least for me not experiencing any problems is pressing the B key on your keyboard. The B key automatically sets your altimeter to your nearest airport of your current position. If you are flying on a network like vatsim, however, where you talk to the ATC, they will give you your altimeter (i.e 2998) through voice.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  11 років тому

    Hi Aaditya, I would check the transponder (radio panel) by pressing either shift 3 or shift 4 and find the CRS and frequency boxes for the ils in there. Everything thing else besides the location of those two things should be exactly the same.

  • @jimliras313
    @jimliras313 13 років тому

    you don't have to be flying IFR to preform an ILS landing. if you want you can just land without ATC or you can open the ATC window, select the nearest airport option, select the airport you want to land at and then select the full stop landing option

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  13 років тому

    @Tranzorr If you don't have that, you should plan your decent manually. When I say that I mean ask the controllers to get a decent to around FL260 (it depends on your cruise alt.) because if you don't do that, you will usually be a little bit too high for your final approach.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  12 років тому

    Pull up to the gate or parking area at a steady and slow 5 knots and slow to meet your designated or wanted stopping area. Once you're completely stopped, turn on the parking brake by cntrl + . . Next turn off the engine cutoff in the throttle quadrant panel.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  12 років тому

    You have to press the ` key which will open up the ATC window, from there you have many options to choose from. You should be setting up a flightplan before you even takeoff though.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  15 років тому

    If there is no ILS frequency when the ATC tells you a runway your approach is visual. It doesn't matter if you're IFR or VFR, the ATC will give you instructions to your designated runway.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  12 років тому

    The approach hold switch and autopilot B should take you down to the runway, even if you have a higher altitude set. In the real world, pilots set their missed approach altitude in the MCP so in case of a missed approach / go around that needs to be executed, it is much more easier.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  14 років тому

    @yandimant1993 you should get a flaps chart/checklist for the aircraft you are flying. It will tell you how much of flaps you will need in a certain distance from the airport

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  14 років тому

    @teddj16 once you have captured the ils and your plane is descending, keep your autopilot on until you reach around 1,000 feet or a little bit below. It's really up to you when you turn off your autopilot.

    @domhlav class b airspace transition is for VFR. To clear an IFR flight you need to go to the atc at the beginning, and either go to [airport] clearance (usually for larger airports) or tower, and request 'IFR Clearance'. Make sure you respond to the radio calls from ATC ASAP, otherwise they cancel your flightplan :/

  • @fsx767

    if it's a headwind then there's nothing to worry about, if it's a crosswind of that speed then it will mess you up

    @hitman12345a you need to turn everything off on the autopilot display once you are around 1,000 and land your plane manually. It seems that you might have a problem with your localizer or glideslope. Just follow this tutorial very, very carefully!

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  15 років тому

    In the heading area just put the headings that the ATC gives you to get to the runway,
    In the CRS area put in the heading that the map gives you.
    They're two different things.

    thank you so much, i've seen another tut , and when i tried it, it didn't work, who ever made that tut, forgot to mention that it works only in an IFR flight plan !! i'll try this now and see!! :)

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  14 років тому

    @smiley2990 30,000. You put flight level (FL) infront of an altitude if it's 18,000 ft. or above. Otherwise, just say the altitude if you are below FL180.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  13 років тому

    @FlyingDutchMan225 You have to start at your departure airport and open an IFR flightplan at that time so that the controller will know that you're going to your destination airport. You can try to do it without the ATC but you need payware aircraft stuff like an fmc etc.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  13 років тому

    @BBVAGoals Glad it worked for you!
    What you need to do is make sure that everything on your panel is turned off (view the part when I'm on final approach in the video). After that, the plane is in a mode where it's stabilizing itself because its vital approach commands we're disconnected, which means that you have to control the aircraft's throttle and Elevator / Aileron axis until engine shutdown at the gate and you've successfully landed.

  • @muhdanis70

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  13 років тому

    @jdiegosantana15 The APP button is the Approach Hold selector. You use this so your aircraft can turn correctly on its own to line up with your landing runway. The NAV1 (or the NAV1 frequency) is used to tune your aircraft with the arrival runway's landing frequency (i.e - 111.75). All of these things, including the CRS box, can help you with your autolanding / ILS landing.

    sounds pretty advanced,my rudder on my joystick is a twist,but I really really want to get a yoke so it'll be like I'm flying a Boeing instead of always a Airbus.And also rudder pedals.
    I don't know why,my guess is that they might have wanted a difference in the cockpits of Boeing and Airbus.

    Your video has many errors. I'll point out some of them:
    - "An ILS can be used only in an IFR flight". This is false. You can use all radio aids when you fly under VFR. It's not a bad idea to follow the ils glide path when in VFR with marginal visibility.
    - "ILS frecuency in the transponder". This is a concept error. A transponder is an equipment not related with ILS at all. You have to set ILS frequency in the NAV1 control box.
    - The identification of the station is done once. You need not to keep listening to the morse identification code during the approach. It can be considered an error to do so.

      Agreed that "An ILS can be used only in an IFR flight". When I was training for my instrument rating, I normally flew VFR and often asked for the ILS.
      Also typos in the text of the video.

    @Mremirates97 The Altitude Hold switch will more often than not turn itself off and turn / descend the plane towards the runway. If you want you can turn off the Altitude Hold switch when you activate the Approach Hold (app) switch, it shouldnt do anything.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  15 років тому

    once you get to the runway and you have the autopilot on, turn it off when you get down to about 1,000 ft. to 500 ft. then you turn off the autothrottle and the speed hold, that should take care of it.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  13 років тому

    @TheRobaroba The HDG knob is used for headings given out by the ATC, the CRS is short for course and is for your ILS runway heading so it can work with your ILS runway frequency. I hope this helped! Subscribe if you haven't already ;)

  • @fsx767

  • @fsx767

  • @michaelmanfilms
    @michaelmanfilms 12 років тому

    In reality, yes you are correct that it ILS landings can only be flown when using an IFR flight plan but in the case of fs9 then you can do one when ever deem in needed

  • @stealhty1
    @stealhty1 9 років тому

    Doesn't have to be under IFR only to use ILS Approach, you also can shot the approach in VFR conditions

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  12 років тому

    zoom in all the way to the airport that you're going to, then double click on the airport and it will bring up a list of information. Then just scroll down to the runway you're planning on landing on and it will give a frequency and course.

  • @fsx767

    yes,
    I currently only know ILS from Commercial Jets, and not General Aviation aircraft. Simply becuase I only fly commercial aircraft.
    But yes, no matter what plane you fly on Fsx that has a panel it will work.

  • @fsx767

    @FF35Pilot usually it will climb to reach your altitude that you assign on your MCP area, if you do set it to a lower altitude as in what ever the atc controller will give you, like 2000, or say 2500.
    Let me know if this will work ;-)

  • @fsx767

    The software would be Walk & Follow and to pause / break the tape simply pause the flight (press P ) during the recording.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  12 років тому

    You need to have DBS Walk & Follow to be able to do the wingview in fs2004. You would use control, shirt, and enter to move about in the VC view but you must have DBS walk and follow for it to work.

    Thank you very much for this GREAT tutorial. It's certainly the BEST landing tutorial that I've ever seen on UA-cam. I have followed all the instructions according to this video; and I have a question. At 4:38 (the final sight of the cockpit before landing) how do you descent to 500-1000? It shows that Altitude Switch is On for 3300 feet. How do you descent after that? Thanks!

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  13 років тому

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  13 років тому

    @Thelongesteverdream You need to monitor your speed, and if needed, take off your autopilot at about 1500-2000 ft above the ground.

  • @fsx767
    @fsx767  14 років тому

    @spymyth I believe that there is a way in FS9 / FSX for the plane to land automatically with the autopilot on...to do this I'm guessing that you would have to mess with your trim settings and make sure that all other systems besides the autopilot master switch, and altitude hold are off.

    Thats what im doing, I have the program FSnavigator, when I check the heading with it, the closer my plane is getting to the destinated airport the heading changes often cuz of the plane going towards the airport and not the specific runway that im gonna be landing at that same airport, the correct heading will be the course, i thought if i can make the plane set towards the runway from far away before a few nautical miles of approach. Or maybe the heading indicator can indicate something?
