Absolutely. And also one of the most charismatic villains, who wasn’t wrong about USA and UN being corrupt (thus being a well-intentioned extremist character). I mean he is no pure evil psycho like Makarov, but more akin to the likes of Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear, Raul Menendez from Black Ops II and etc.
"It was more than unfortunate Sergeant, it was unnecessary". This is the tragedy of war.....it's rarely needed, wanted or cares for. That's why people like Irons are so goddamn powerful and good at getting recruits....all they need do, is speak the truth.
“And I believe the world’s problems…..begin with you” Always loved this line since he’s not wrong, in some areas he is right about saying that. Humans almost 90% are the cause of the problems that have either short or long term consequences on not just our present but our future as well.
He's partially right. Truth is though, the US has installed more dictators than democracies, sadly. It's not like they didn't have the resources needed to vett their candidates. It's that the truly democratic candidates wouldn't sell out to American mega businesses, amongst other things. This guy (Irons) is meant to be a critique and a representation of American mindsets in the modern day, giving up on democracy when under a two-party, mostly unaccountable system it was never allowed to blossom. Yet I see so many in the comments agreeing with him. If you agree with Irons, Thanos, and the like, you're missing the point.
Kevin Spacey is a damn fine actor and had damn fine writers. I’m a libertarian but when I listen to him in this game, I want to believe Irons is the future. When Irons says Michels arm is worth more to him than the entire facility and has a drink with his men, I see an employer that I would ride to hell and back for. It’s all the more crushing when you find out all he’s responsible for. Terrific story.
I’m a libertarian too, but his plan and actions make no sense financially speaking. Atlas is still a corporation which needs customers, and killing millions of your customers doesn’t seem like something that would help with your brand reputation. It would bring down everything he’s built, even if his goal was no longer profit. He ended the government’s monopoly on force and got paid handsomely for doing so, so his actions are completely illogical. Atlas became a reliable option when your own government failed. But I don’t think anyone wants to publish a story where a corporation is actually the good guy.
@@ponraul1221 That's because companies can also be corrupt. The responsibility towards ending government and companies corruption resides with the people, the population.
@@victuz I never said they couldn't be corrupt. But in a free market where government doesn't pick favorites, there is competition which incentivizes value and accountability. If a company was being corrupt, commiting fraud, etc., people would be able to vote with their wallets and choose a better competitor. But of course, the responsibility lies with the people making good choices. Whether that is actually voting at the ballot box or not paying for worse and worse products (like modern AAA gaming).
+Alberto Arras Why do you think he's even in CoD? He nailed being a villain in congress (Netflix's House of Cards). He's always nailed being a villain, as I have said time and time again; it's a shame that so many people find out about a good underrated actor from a shitty game series.
According to Troy Baker, Irons was supposed to commit suicide by taking Mitchell’s gun and pulling the trigger all in order to become a movement’s martyr.
An organization like Atlas led by a more benevolent hand would be a great help to the world. The modern world needs an organization not bound by governments and banks of various governments to fix more poignant problems in the geopolitical environment.
Tbh, Irons' stance against the UN and the US + the truth of the Nigerian technologist would have been a perfect chance for the game to have us choose sides. Either fight for Atlas and deny Ilona's testimony from Hades, or join Sentinel. Would have been a perfect campaign, akin to BO2.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Atlas' path to hell was paved with good intentions and in the end he became the enemy his soldiers had taken oaths to fight by allowing catostrophy to happen so he could take over.
To be honest, this game had some of the most realistic cutscenes I've ever seen in a videogame. Too bad that this game had so much potential, but fell flat on alot of areas :/
DatEraa It's a cod game, it's always been about shooting because it costs the least to develop, and they make MASSIVE profit. I cannot understand how the cod devs are so fucking mentally challenged that they think they should make a mediocre game that releases every year, rather then spend a couple of years on it and make it a GOTY. All the COD franchise knows how to do is make action games, it's all they have ever done. Waste of Spacey's perfect talent to be an amazing villain. This is why I haven't bought a cod game in 5 years.
+Appleorgasm Because a lot of people, including myself, think they're all legitimately good games, ever think of that? The First Modern Warfare had an amazing story, MW3 had the best Multiplayer (in my opinion), and MW2 has earned its spot on one of my 10 All Time Favorite Videogames list amongst Bioshock and Dishonored. The newer ones are while not as good as the Modern Warfare trilogy, still pretty decent. All Cod knows is how to make action games? Uh, yeah. That's kind of the point of First Person Shooters, isn't it? You want it to become a color matching puzzle game like all the Candy Crush Saga ripoffs? About Spacey, while it is kind of a waste of Spacey's talent, Irons is still a really great villain! Just listen to him at 16:30.
+Appleorgasm But one massive point that you missed out. One massive thing you did not see because you're too stubborn to look further than your own ideals. IT WORKS. it works for a lot of people. A lot of people enjoy this game, alot of people like this game for exactly what it is, a shooter, a cod. And I am one of those people. Of course, people like you are always going to complain. And people like me... are always going to just enjoy what I like, and understand that an opinion is always just an opinion, and at the end of the day this is a game that I really enjoyed and would not like it any other way.
+DatEraa Buddy this game delivered, and delivered well. You tell me, what areas did it "fall flat" in? Because as far as i'm concerned, it's a great game, infact one of the best COD's there is.
When I first time saw the trailer of this game I was so surprised (and still am) Kevin Spacy was in this game and not just the voice. I love this CoD game particularly because of his acting!
Advanced Warfare is a missed opportunity as a result of a stupid plot twist...The concept that a company becomes part of UN is refreshing and this idea should be explored...Even if they wants a plot twist, they can have a double plot twist. For example it is other countries that turned Mitchell against Irons...
Alfred Wang To be honest, then say that advanced warfare could have focused more on the war with North Korea or China since it would be a relevant conflict.
@@Enterthemind1 not entirely, Frank wouldn't be as stupid to let his enemies live/ needlessly suffer. So, in the end, hed just killed the team and be done with it instead of arresting them twice.
In my opinion, Atlas suffered from the same trope of bad writing Shadow Company did in MW2022. When you're with them, they're your brothers in arms, fighting the good fight. Likeable people. Then something happens to make them no longer your allies and at the flick of a switch they're committing war crimes.
Irons is my favourite cod villain ever such great acting to the point when he compliments and takes William under his wing at the start of the game it makes me feel like I am William there myself no other game has made me feel that involved in a story to date
The fact that the changed the ending from irons killing himself to become a martyr makes me so mad how incompetent Activision is. Irons had such good character writing. Damn.
Jonathan Irons is a really compelling villain and character, with a perfect mixture of deep philosophy that allows you to understand his perspective, but with an ego big enough to illustrate the dangers of ambitious men like him.
Honestly, given today's time, this plot is very relevant and great. I don't agree on everything with Jonathan, but i see why people would agree with him. He went too far in trying to boost Atlas's image and I don't agree with his criticism of democracy, but I agree that such wars should be avoided. And his fatherly affection for Mitchell is honestly heartwarming.
Irons: Come on, let me year you say it. Just once. Ilona: You're insane. Irons: NO! No, not that. No, the other thing. Ilona: Mitchel will- Irons: WROOONG!!!
We've seen the patriotic American doing it for his country enough, but certainly some of these new age characters all about power, control, and wealth who see beyond the old school thinking is just great.
It's called a Well-Intentioned Extremist. He has good intentions but ends up blinding by his own evil tendencies and delusions of hatred and power because of the death of his son. If he avoided stepping on so many toes or had more tact, things would have gone his way completely, but he had to be a bastard.
24:35, those two statues (not captured in full view in cut-scene) are similar to those guarding the gate in Persepolis, ancient Persia, symbolizing the"King of all Nations". Although a bit odd comparing to the surrounding building style, they show what exactly Irons really want to be...
Francis Underwood , I have already begun the hunt. There are only two outcomes for me now. You will notice the Royal Defense Forces Insignia is the Red Matador. In your words, "Door Mat or Matador?" Which one do you think I will be?
Irons tortured the protag just cause. He shot Cormack and left him to bleed when shooting him in the head is more effective, less risky and honestly more humane. The guy isn't interested in fixing the world. That's what he may claim, and even what he may believe, but it isn't the case. He's simply a sadistic fuck who wants to be the top dog in the world. When your "solution" requires the death of thousands, you should rethink your tactics. I'm tired of people supporting this guy. Yes, he has a point, but that doesn't make him the hero dammit.

Irons: *what you're seeing is Advanced Warfare.*

Always loved this line since he’s not wrong, in some areas he is right about saying that. Humans almost 90% are the cause of the problems that have either short or long term consequences on not just our present but our future as well.
This character has so many realistic points it's mad
He's partially right.
Truth is though, the US has installed more dictators than democracies, sadly. It's not like they didn't have the resources needed to vett their candidates. It's that the truly democratic candidates wouldn't sell out to American mega businesses, amongst other things.
This guy (Irons) is meant to be a critique and a representation of American mindsets in the modern day, giving up on democracy when under a two-party, mostly unaccountable system it was never allowed to blossom.
Yet I see so many in the comments agreeing with him.
If you agree with Irons, Thanos, and the like, you're missing the point.
Democracies don't work in every country. So, he is right but wrong about absolute power. There should be some check.
Just a question. Can anyone give example of a country where democracy works? (In 21st century)
No agreement with that fat purple blob, but I agree with Irons.
Underrated aspect of the COD games is how good the animation and mocap in the cutscenes
Man, why'd he have to come out with all these sexual harassment charges. Ruined a good career. No excuse for behavior though
It was fake though

According to Troy Baker, Irons was supposed to commit suicide by taking Mitchell’s gun and pulling the trigger all in order to become a movement’s martyr.
I would join Atlas
An organization like Atlas led by a more benevolent hand would be a great help to the world. The modern world needs an organization not bound by governments and banks of various governments to fix more poignant problems in the geopolitical environment.
Definitely. Me and Gideon would've been a kickass team!!
Atlas is the bad guy I completed this game 😎😎😎
@17 Isn't Atlas a Japanese game developer company?!?
Me too. I'll be an A.S.T soldier
where are these scenes from ? 6:13 and 13:58 ?
His gotta a point, we do rely on those exo suits too much
he has rigt on everything. democracy, The US has has the world in a constant state of war.
Every shot The world has always been in a constant state of war. That's just how humanity is.
Just listen to him at 16:30.
soschar2050 Cod is the candy crush ripoff of action games buddy.
11:57 i like how the blood on the floor isnt blue lmao
Lol that's so absurd 😂
And the gunshot flash is still orange and yellow.
"Villain kinda has point" have never been more valid than in case with Irons
When I first time saw the trailer of this game I was so surprised (and still am) Kevin Spacy was in this game and not just the voice. I love this CoD game particularly because of his acting!
Story wise, truly the best experience I've had
Jonathan Irons for president.
No, he likes to get things done
Advanced Warfare is a missed opportunity as a result of a stupid plot twist...The concept that a company becomes part of UN is refreshing and this idea should be explored...Even if they wants a plot twist, they can have a double plot twist. For example it is other countries that turned Mitchell against Irons...
Alfred Wang To be honest, then say that advanced warfare could have focused more on the war with North Korea or China since it would be a relevant conflict.

Jonathan Irons is my favorite COD character.
the biggest flaw of this is not having the choice of supporting him
Jonathan Irons: the best protagonist of the call of duty series

Honestly, given today's time, this plot is very relevant and great. I don't agree on everything with Jonathan, but i see why people would agree with him. He went too far in trying to boost Atlas's image and I don't agree with his criticism of democracy, but I agree that such wars should be avoided. And his fatherly affection for Mitchell is honestly heartwarming.
The plotline of Advanced Warfare is still one of the more reasonable ones on all of the series, ironic that its futuristic theme is ridiculed so much
On a philosophical and practical level, I agree with Irons. On a moral level, I do not and cannot.

Its 2019, even if a lot of people didn't like CODAW but at least the campaign had great characters IMO
Advanced warfare has the exact same story as MW 1,2&3 condensed into a single campaign and I love it.
I absolutely loved him as a character.. soo much of Frank Underwood in Irons I love Kevin Spacey.. perfect man for roles of positions in power.
We've seen the patriotic American doing it for his country enough, but certainly some of these new age characters all about power, control, and wealth who see beyond the old school thinking is just great.
It’s crazy how loyal I would have been to atlas even knowing everything
“On whose authority

This game's story would've been perfect if you could pick a side.
"What you're seeing is advanced warfare,..." he said it he said it!
Does anybody think irons was doing the right thing? I agree with what says and intentions
but the way he does it is evil.
It's called a Well-Intentioned Extremist. He has good intentions but ends up blinding by his own evil tendencies and delusions of hatred and power because of the death of his son. If he avoided stepping on so many toes or had more tact, things would have gone his way completely, but he had to be a bastard.
Yes; like the Thanos and Killmongers of the world
The only thing I don't agree with was when he let the nuclear power plants explode!
That's the only thing that makes him a villain!
24:35, those two statues (not captured in full view in cut-scene) are similar to those guarding the gate in Persepolis, ancient Persia, symbolizing the"King of all Nations". Although a bit odd comparing to the surrounding building style, they show what exactly Irons really want to be...
God damn them graphics...
I would love to follow his idea
Efficency before burecracy
Actions before empty words
And this world need someone who, at the very least, said this.
It's shocking to see how quickly he went from the CEO of a massive private military corporation to (@ 17:20) a nearly-fascist dictator.
Irons is the only way forward. Because Irons knows how to solve problems.
Ben Kraus There is only one rule, hunt or be hunted.
Francis Underwood , I have already begun the hunt. There are only two outcomes for me now. You will notice the Royal Defense Forces Insignia is the Red Matador. In your words, "Door Mat or Matador?" Which one do you think I will be?
Ben Kraus The door mat, I already have doug on his way.
@@Dalt-s2k ikr, it's scary how many people in this comment section, despite having history at their fingertips, would gladly put their trust into just one more new dictator that claims he can solve all the world's problems.
