great to see a picture of the royal oak on abbey street,we lived next door to it from 1956 to 1963 in a house owned by the brewery, used to go in for crisps when we had a penny or two in our pocket, the last couple of years we lived there it was boarded up,the last family to run it were the stubbs, keith was their young son about my age,we left abbey street in february 1963 when i was 10, the houses and pub were pulled down shortly after, great days.
Hi Joanne, I have just one from 1998 it's not my picture it's from a collection on line here's a link picturenottingham.co.uk/image-library/image-details/poster/ntgm021408/posterid/ntgm021408.html
Great video, thanks. I was wondering if you'd come across any photos of the Butchers Arms at 28 Bridge Street. It was run by one of my Ancestors George Marples in the mid 1800s. I think there is a shopping centre there now but it's proving quite elusive!
Hi, No sorry, there were little or no photographers in the town in the mid 1800s photos started to appear around 1870, if you live locally to Worksop and you want to see the building you need to remember that Bridge Street has been renumbered since the mid 1800s at that time the Queens Head on the corner of Bridge Street/Newcastle Ave would have been number 2 it's now number 38. Good luck in your search.
Majority of these have gone, White Swan on Ward Lane was up for sale last I heard. That the vine and french horn are only three left in town with glazed tiles on exterior. The should not be altered, Sign of quality, shoulld be preserved.

I count around 2 dozen old watering holes, lost,, brilliant memories though
Spent most of my youth in the Black Swan Pilgrims Way when Ruth and Jeff Collins ran it
Sad to see the Flamingo on the list ,we had our wedding reception there in September 1967.
I'd love to know if you have any photos Glassman ,of the 'Anchor Inn' on Eastgate from the 90's !
