in this video is a photo of the block of houses where my nan lived taken from under the iron bridge on gateford road, sadly the houses are long gone but it brought back many happy memories of time with my nan god bless her soul...thank you so much for sharing..i have screen shotted and saved the memory
My dad and a few mates of his used to own Steel & Garland before it shut down in the late 80's. Good to see it still standing. I also remember the glass works back of Tesco with it's drill tip style chimney with the very top of it in blue and the milk bottle style chimney as well. Sadly gone now.
next to us at the glassworks was gr Stein brickworks where the big asda is now and next to that was shirley alfred charcoal works, I can still remember the smell when you went past it
@@andrewperkins8532 I remember the charcoal works. It was a huge site with black chimneys everywhere. There used to be a research house on Sandy Lane as well but couldn't remember who it belonged too. I knew that my neighbour worked for them before he got made redundant.
We used to live at Farm Grove in the mid 80's then moved to Gateford in 1993 when Kingfisher Walk was being built on the old Steetley Sand Quarry. There used to be massive hills, floodplains and drains until Lady Walk got built on it. In 1994 we had to be evacuated from Gateford because when Lady Walk was being built they founded an unexploded WW2 bomb.

A few places remain the same but alot of it has changed so much.

My dad worked there all my childhood
I worked at cws glassworks in the early 80s, great family factory then rockware glass bought it and closed it.

I can remember that the rail bridge on Kilton was blown up one sunday morning. Much to locals annoyance

Any relation to Wally, Barry Pearson?.
When and why did they demolish that lovely bridge at Kilton Hill?
It was replaced, because the old bridge was too low for articulated lorries to get under.
The thing that strikes me about many of the current day views in general is the spread of dreadful, trashy signs everywhere.
