  • A look at Worksop in the late 1950's and 60's, Some of the old Buildings, old cars, Buses, people etc, hardly any houses in Thievesdale Lane, the clip of the shop at the start was my parents, and the motor accessory shop I started in 1962 in Newcastle Ave, the house in Hemmingfield Road cost us £3700 in 1966 including the double garage, the Aston DB5 I sold it for £2000, I've just seen one advertised for over £400,000, if I'd only known, sorry about the picture quality

    So much more classy back then. I can remember Worksop in 1966 and even up to the early 90s it was fantastic.

    All though I’ve enjoyed watching the video quite a few times over the years I still find myself having another look just to remind myself of what a pleasant town we had back then, I think a lot of local folk like myself didn’t appreciate the town then but would would love to wind the clock back now. 🤷🏻‍♂️👍

    My cousin lived in Worksop from the late 50s until the late 70s. He then moved to South Africa. During his time in Worksop he ran a car hire business and later caravan/mobile home business. Happy days.

    Lovely stuff Rod! Great to see all those wonderful, charcterful cars in their 'natural' habitat. Today most are collector's pieces, hardly ever used! I have owned most of the same cars through the years. That looks like a Sunbeam Tiger at about 09.50. I had the 260 cid engined model in 1967 or so, plenty power there.
    I was at Worksop College 1960 Sept - 1963 Sept. Whenever they let us out I used to walk down the hill (Spark Hill?) for a wander around the town, mainly the main street.

    Great trip down memory lane, Rod!
    I remember your fantastic shop on Newcastle Avenue, I went in there with my older brother on many occasions, I was about 4 or 5 and he was about 14 or 15. We both loved the red model E-Type shown in your film!!

    It was a Sunbeam Tiger, I think it was a 1966 Model, I got about £800 when I sold it.

    The TR3a belonged to a friend of mine, he and another friend who also had TR3a were having a race on the road and he lost it on a bend, hit a telegraph pole and demolished a wall, the car ended up, up side down, the 2 occupants were thrown out, as nobody wore seat belts back then, my friend spent quite a long time in hospital with broken leg and pelvis, note the steering wheel if you can see it in the video.

    Fascinating footage of what I consider a great era! You certainly owned some dream cars over the years. What was the story behind the rather badly bent TR3A?

    Great to see Worksop through my parents eyes, Rod. You had some wonderful cars. Can I ask what line of business were you in? Thanks

    • @rodbean4226
      @rodbean4226  10 років тому

      Hi Andrew, I started the motor accessory business in the 1960's, in those days cars had very few accessorys fitted as standard, so the business was quite good, most cars didn't have a radio, screen washers were an extra, no seat belts, no heated rear windows etc, I also bought and sold quite a lot of cars in the 60's and 70's, wish I'd still got some of them now. Thanks for asking Rod

    These seem like good days when you could have fun without being watched by BIG BROTHER, smother cated by red tape, ridiculous health and safety rules and regs and ripped off for every penny you have by energy companies, tax man, etc. etc.
