Yes, he was my inspiration as well. His other waterfall diorama "Building the Ultimate Waterfall" video inspired me to make an Amazon Rainforest diorama with a set of falls. Still working on it, but it is turning out rather nicely for my very first diorama. Thanks Luke!
the waterfall effect is stunning. usually you can easily identify a miniature in closeups, but this one tricks my eye even upon close inspection. it just looks so much like rushing water
Say, Luke: speaking as the son of a native Oregonian (and someone who's visited Multnomah Falls several times over his life), you did a great job! The first thing I thought when seeing your diorama was "Hey, that looks like Multnomah Falls!". :) Kudos!
The end result is totally stunning. Crazy how realistic it looks! I also always love seeing all the little tools and weights that are ingeniously used to hold different pieces in place during construction.
I grew up in the Columbia Gorge in Oregon and I knew immediately that this was Multnomah Falls! Great job!! Crazy to think an Australian is doing a diorama of a place I can easily visit. So cool! :)
From one Aussie miniaturist to another... It's so nice seeing someone using tools and materials that I know I can find in local hobby stores!! I've been looking to up my environment skills and I'm so pleased I stumbled upon your channel. No fancy UV lights and a bit of pillow fluff? Sign me up
Awesome! I saw the first couple of shots and shouted "Hey, that looks like the place I've vistied, somewhere in Oregon" at my screen. And sure enough those where Multnomah Falls. Pretty cool.

When I first started learning photography one of my favorite things to photograph was waterfalls with an insanely high shutter speed. This looks exactly like those photos. My mind is blown by these falls. Like when you see a magic trick that blew your mind, then you were shown how it was done and it was really simple, but even after, it still blows your mind every time.
Actually have a poster of Multnomah Falls hanging on my wall in my craft room where I make my dioramas! Too funny. Brilliant work as usual, sir. You actually started my addiction to building these types of dioramas and for that I thank you! Your tutorials are by far the best out there and have taught me pretty much everything I know.
@@BoulderCreekRailroad An inspiration indeed! And also a great teacher as your tutorials explain perfectly how to achieve amazing results with ease-not to mention having some pretty solid comedy sprinkled in along the way😁As a fan of animated projects (love the mini r/c, oil drill and magnorail builds) I was curious if you've ever considered using running water for a flowing river or stream? It doesn't work well for whitewater or waterfall scenes but looks pretty good in a scene like your Muddy River diorama. There's really not much to adding the water-basically just applying waterproofing (polyurethane for me) straight to the foam and then using it in place of the modge podge in the wet areas when adding the dirt texture, rocks, etc. Lighting is an important part of the finished project to highlight movement of the water but other than that & water reservoir/pump placement there's not too much to it, especially if the water stays on one level of foam. I have a 3-4 minute video on the lighting aspect of it if you'd like to see what the running water looks like. Didn't make the house in video-not quite to that level yet! And certainly nowhere near the level of making great videos either (you've set the bar pretty high on that one!) so in the event that you watch any of the others I've made let me go ahead and apologize for you having to sit through that! ua-cam.com/video/TETqjOiEj-0/v-deo.html
As someone who lives on the Washington side of the Columbia River, a few miles up from this place, that bridge is pretty iconic. Thanks! Shout out from Washington state USA!
Images from my 'backyard'. I live about 2oomi (322km) from Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. Thanks for sharing our beautiful Pacific NorthWest, Luke. This was a gorgeous diorama. You make it look so easy when it's far from it. Cheers Mate.
Beautiful work!! Reminded me of Multnomah falls in Oregon before I even heard that the bridge was modeled off it. I have been there many times. A beautiful place to visit. The parking lot is one of the last places to safely pull over between there and the edge of Portland on the highway along the Columbia gorge. When my husband and I were coming back to Oregon after eloping for a year, we were driving a very beat up old dodge Mirada. He said he had prayed that if the car were to give out, that it be before the falls. Right as we passed the parking lot its carburetor just clogged up and we were able to pull over right near the median. Literally the last possible place to pull over. We had to call my sister in law and get a ride the rest of the way back, and while we waited for her we hiked around the falls. We have been back for many occasions, we brought our first child there when he was a few weeks old and have a picture of him with his aunt who had come to our rescue five years prior to his birth. Many other occasions. We are from the mid Willamette valley. Again, Gorgeous work! I love how much your falls look like the real place although I know you’re really just creating your own place and adding in the bridge. Thanks for bringing back some great memories
I’ve watched your channel for a little over a year. This summer, I happened to visit Multnomah Falls and stood on that very bridge. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this video thumbnail in my feed!
What a wonderful master class on waterfalls and terrain modelling, I loved your tip on using hot glue to seal the plastic sheet to make the dam for the river resin and using alcohol to soften it up so that it can be removed afterwards. I will definitely use that in my next diorama. The overall diorama is amazing !! Thank you so much for sharing your work with us.
