Build a Museum Quality Train Station - Realistic Scenery Vol.25
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 чер 2024
- This tutorial will walk you through some of the tips and tricks for building an ultra-high quality model that could be a feature in a museum! It’s really not as difficult as you might think.
Most of the 3D printer files used to add detail in this scene can be found on my website at:
www.bouldercreekrailroad.com/...
This model is in HO scale however like with nearly all of my previous videos the techniques I use can be applied to just about any other scale, from Z scale right through to G scale!
I use a lot of techniques that you will have seen in previous videos plus a whole lot of new never before shown techniques for creating unique effects, below you’ll also find a list of companion videos for things like the chain-link fence, various trees on the model as well as some tools I use.

It was just last week I was thinking: "hmm... Luke Towan hasn't uploaded in a while". Now I can see why - this was so worth the wait!

Me too once in a while I was checking the channel for new diorama

All right
Just wanted to thank you for your videos ! They are brilliant! I am just starting an 8x4 layout with room for extension later on and you have given me so many ideas. Your detailed explanation of steps during construction and attention to detail is genius! Thanks Luke
"No station would be complete without an outdoor dunny. I've 3d printed some giant hunstman spiders for added realism. You can't see them because they are under the toilet seat."
What? Huntsmans hang out in gaps in the sheeting so they can scuttle out and scare the shit right out of ya. Everyone knows it's redbacks that hide under the seat
Wheres the roof?
@@hairymcnipples fun fact: daddy long legs aren’t (huntsman) actually a spider!
@@hairymcnipples bro it’s a joke
@@hairymcnipples There is a song "Redback on the toilet seat" a quick search of UA-cam will find it. It comes from the days in Australia when toilets were called " the dunny" and were out side the house in the back yard. In rural areas the dunny was a usually a long drop which when it was full you just dug another one.
The best part is always you putting your models in front of real scenery. They just blend in so well!
Yeah having a real scene in the background and some natural sunlight is the trick for sure!... now my secret is out 😄
I watch the entire videos just to see that part. Don’t get me wrong there is something very calming in watching the videos, but that end shot is always the best part.

Title Says, “Build Museum Quality Train Station”. Everything Luke builds is Museum quality. Another great one.
When he said that the colour scheme is modelled after Pyramid Hill station, I jumped up from my chair! I came from that very small town and used to wait in that station to take the train coming from Swan Hill to Bendigo and Melbourne. My family still lives there. Dude, I never thought I would see or hear Pyramid Hill mentioned anywhere. Brought back so many memories of my early life in Australia. Thanks Luke for this awesome video! Cheers mate.
How... I'm just absolutely gobsmacked every time I see you make something new... This seriously looks like a station my train might stop at
That's quite the compliment 😀 glad you enjoyed it.
I'm in NC and have just begun doing realistic modeling and I want to thank you Luke for the inspiration! Amazing tutorials for a beginner like myself!! I am going through cancer treatments and this helps me keep focused and relaxed, so once again, thank you for the inspiration!
"This belongs in a museum". Most UA-camrs need a clickbait title to sell their vids.... You're just stating the facts 🙂🙂
Anyone got the Indiana Jones reference?
@@doubledarefan I didn't - I thought he was being uncharacteristically boastful. Not that it is not true.
All your work is museum quality, actually better than quite a few displays in museums now!
Last night: "Luke Towan seems due for another video..."
Today: The prophecy has come true...
Amazing, as always. The work is beautiful, but the way you shoot and edit makes the process so enjoyable to watch. I hope you never get tired of doing these. :)
You really need to make sure that every model has the ability to be joined in some way to others, imagine an entire series of your models placed into a massive display at model railway shows for example. It would win first prize for sure. Great video and great modelling as usual!
Do you know how much work it would be to move these models to a train meet. It's not just something you pack in your van. Love his work
@@timothydore2302 I don't doubt that at all, but it would be awesome to do. I've seen some modellers build great big trailers with drawers and side entry so carry all the segments in one hit. It can be done.
@@timothydore2302 How do you think railway modellers get there layouts to events!? it's no different to what Luke would need to do!
I am almost sure I have stood on that platform in 40c heat and waited for the Vline back to Melbourne. It's so good and detailed!
7:57 plugging a USB key on the first try? Now *that* is impressive! ;)
Adds a safety line to "keep people from falling off" and I'm thinking "you silly man people aren't that small". Then it hits me... "this dude is a pilot, everything looks scaled down to him on a daily basis. Small IS reality to him!" Lol
My uncle (an artist for NASA) is quote as saying anyone can be a good artist with enough patience over time. You sir always take the time.
And just when the world needed him the most, he returned
Wonder if there is a lot of peps like me that don't have this as a hobby or anything, who is just here to admire the craftsmanship and his voice walking you trough the build :)
30% of that 28 hours of footage was getting the bottle flips right, wasn’t it?
And my day just got 100x better now that Luke’s uploaded
He is really good at bottle flipping 😅
Nah... he had just spent 30% of that 28 hours of footage trying to get the bottle flips right... :D

What a convincing model. I"m Australian and i instantlyl recognised this as depicting an Australian location. After watching the video I am just like so many others - in AWE at Luke's understanding of the tiny nuances of what he's modelling. Thank you Luke, this is a study level video that we could all aspire to.
Not only the modeling work is amazing, but something to notice is how much more enjoyable are the videos because of the editing job. I just have the need to point that out.
Wow this is amazing! The wait for a new 'Realistic Scenery' was long but it's always worth the wait! Keep it up mate!
luke mate. you're lucky its a friday with you uploading it this late!

Bravo Monsieur je vais acheter un t-shirt et en parler à le radio (nationale) où je travaille.
I have been asked by my brother in law a very interesting question: What is the channel that you are most excited to see show up in your sub feed? Luke Towan is the answer.
Fantastic tutorial, and model, Luke! I'm really glad to see the Victorian, and V/Line, theme come back :) You've really captured a typical Victorian Railways country station beautifully. And I love the way you've done the track; a few years ago I was looking at, along with a friend, using hand laid code 55 rail with timber sleepers and etched plates/spikes. But the amount of work needed meant I just stuck with peco code 75 instead... I'll definitely need to look at this method for a planned layout though! And you've made me want to get back onto the scenery for my current Victorian branchline layout :)
It's also great to see a few Aussie brands coming up. SMS is doing great work with their paints, powders, and other items (I absolutely love their sprue cutters!). Hopefully more people pick up their products.
I'm not sure if you've come across them, but there's some nice ballast products from Matts Ballast, and Chucks Ballast. Both make great range of ballasts to represent ballast from various quarry locations. You'd be amazed at what we successfully used for ballast in Victoria (loco ash was common; we even had a few branchlines that are recorded as 'sand ballast'...).
How could anyone not like this video. It's amazing. And why are so many people so reticent to hit 'like'. It costs nothing to hit 'like'. I wish I had the time and space to make some of these dioramas myself. Watching videos by a master craftsman like Luke will have to suffice.
Seriously Luke
Your skills are truly next level.
You do realise that you could give up flying and built Diaramas full time.
I think they would over time become recognized as true works of art like a Pecaso for example.
Nick
Holy moly Luke! You’ve done it again, that has got to be the highest quality ever!!! Well done 👍 Nice touch with having Bullarto changed to Pyramid
Cheers mate, it was heaps of fun to build, glad you liked it 😉
@@BoulderCreekRailroad this video is going to be a great help once I start building my end to end layout based around the small town of Bridgewater. Thanks again Luke for bringing these videos up to the world!

well i don't have nearly enough patience to build models or anything in that field but i love watching this videos. Great work on this one it looms awesome.
i honestly love waiting for months to get this kind of quality content! every time Luke updates it’s a 30+ minute trip to pure relaxation, and i learn something along the way that i can use in my own personal builds.

As an architect and scale railway models enthusiast, I love your videos, and really enjoy watching all the details and passion over each model. You did an amazing job !!
Beautiful scenery work. Every time I see your videos I’m just in awe of the beauty and realism. Amazing video.
Another incredible build Luke! I’m glad that you’re back to making model train subjects again. :) Keep then coming. Cheers!
Like others, I've been impatiently wondering when we might see another video from you and all I can say is that this one was well worth the wait! Calling it "museum quality" is at the same time accurate and understated. Including the building and production statistics helps everyone understand what a truly monumental undertaking that was and why there had been such a gap after the last one. Incredible job, Luke. Thanks for sharing it with us! Garrett
Using N scale rails on a HO scale trackbed had me absolutely convinced that you had managed to source broad-gauge in HO scale. You are truly a master of this craft, Luke!
Another masterpiece crafted by an amazing person. I love every work u do and i'm learning so much from your tutorials. Also a great way to end a really hard work day.
Phenomenal work once again Luke. I learn something new on every single one of your videos and this is no exception
I can picture a "Red Rattler" at your beautifully finished station . I'm 73 and can still remember "SPENCER STREET" station , and some of it's secrets ....lol They use to have weighing machines on them ,...some for parcels and some big silver ones for people.

Ever since I’ve started watching Luke Towan videos I’ve wondered how a whole layout of his would look. It would be CRAZY realistic! Such amazing modeling skills.
“You’ll want to make sure to roughen the foam surface before glueing”
Me, putting the foam in a headlock: “Ok listen here nerd, don’t make this difficult”
Luke, hope the flying has picked up for you down there. Block hours are still way down for us!
Yeah I think I'm quite luck being a regional pilot, it seems the regional flying is picking up a bit faster than domestic. I feel for the international guys! International flying is almost non existent in Australia at the moment!
As always your work is exceptional. Next year, (with my retirement) I'll begin my life long dream of model railway. You certainly have inspired me with all your wonderful tips and ideas

Your attention to detail truly sets you apart, excellent work👍 A trick I learned for working with laser cut wood (any wood really), is to give it a light coat, or two, of a lacquer clear coat followed by a wipe, with some fine steel wool. The clear coat seals the wood and the steel wool removes any fuzz, making subsequent painting easy.

I can see why it is a long time between tutorials as the dioramas you make are all museum quality! I learn a lot from the videos you post as they are very professional and the instructions are easily understood. What always impresses me is how you take readily available commercial products and make realistic dioramas. Until I watched this tutorial I did not know you could sand the AK Asphalt to make it look more like a weathered road. I will certainly look into getting this. Thanks for all of the hard work on this diorama. It really shows.

you dont need to want or intend on making this to be interested in and appreciate the process that goes into its construction.
Sir, do you really think it’s a good idea to leave the leftover rails laying around there? Don’t you know that hoodlums go around and steal steel and other metal materials?
Unless they're cutting them to much shorter lengths, even a couple guys would need a crane to lift lengths like that. Even that rail when scaled up to prototype would be somewhere in the range of 85lbs per yard.
