    I found that switching to a thinner set of strings made barre chords *so* much easier. My guitar came with 12s, and I switched to 11s. It really made a huge difference.

    Afternoon Rob
    Been following your instructional videos for the past couple of months.
    New to guitar.
    I've just seen you in the Pub, wanted to say hello however wasn't going to disturb funeral gathering.
    Will book some lessons with you next week or two if ok.

    I'm not struggling with barre chords, but I always struggled with the non barre F chord!!!!

    Hi Rob, great video. Rather than the barred F would you ever use a simplified F chord ? (XX3210)

      @fennahrob6934  12 днів тому +1

      Yes. Although beginners struggle with holding strings 1&2 with one finger and then muting the open 5th and 6th. 👍🏻

    Question... I you do play barre chords, how do you stop the squeak when you move between them. Or do you accept them?

    • @fennahrob6934
      @fennahrob6934  10 днів тому

      The squeak is all part of the sound. 👍🏻

    Mmmmm' confused now.. If I use the capo on the 2nd fret do all the chords change then? Normal D changes to E

    • @fennahrob6934
      @fennahrob6934  11 днів тому

      Yes. But the idea is to substitute difficult shapes with easy ones. Let’s say you’re playing with chords B - E. and F#. Barre chords B and F# can be played easily if you capo at fret 2 and play the ‘shapes’ A - D and E. 👍🏻

    I'm trying to understand something. Without a capo, when you move from the first position, do the chords have to be barred? I thought you just move the initial chord shapes.

    • @fennahrob6934
      @fennahrob6934  10 днів тому +1

      They need to be barred. 👍🏻

      I have seen people moving the d chord shape without barreing. So is it okay to do it either way? Only the results are different. If I move the shapes like you did without barreing, it's okay but I would have to figure out what the chords are? Is this right? Thanks again.

    How do I get one of those clip on chord identifiers ?

  • @rongunter6236
    @rongunter6236 11 днів тому

    Thanks Rob, but didn't yours identify the chord you were playing ? or am I just thick? no, don't answer that 😂

    • @fennahrob6934
      @fennahrob6934  11 днів тому

      It did. For example, I was using the ‘A shape’ capoed at fret 3 which showed the chord ‘C’. The idea is to use simple shapes to play difficult chords like F and Bm etc. Have a look at my vid Caged System Explained. 👍🏻
