Wow I been practicing for a while only know three songs by heart. I wish I would’ve found this channel sooner. I love how you teach nothing left out. The breakdowns are so awesome easy to fallow.
I really appreciate your channel. Very informative for us old guys. I am 73. Started playing guitar when I was 68. Started playing drums at 12 years old. Decided it was time for a change. Thanks for the instruction!
Love your teaching style and a good sense of humor. You’re very easy to watch and very helpful for me to learn do me a favor and never stop your lessons. Great job!🎸
You are great , don't know what else to say, thanks for your time, like the fellow before me , I'm 76, and appreciate your teaching, cheers from Canada.
I've been playing on and off since I was 17, I'm 61 now, I've been stuck in a rut with it for years. I'd pick up my guitar and put it down again after 2 minutes. Since finding your channel Rob, I can't put the bloody thing down. I'm finding the finger picking very challenging? And wonder if it'll ever click in my mind? But I'm enjoying trying. Anyway, I'm off to play sunny afternoon again :)😂
I am thankful for your ability to teach in a meaningful way. My frustration decreases and my enjoyment increases every time I listen. I have found that the best teachers are those that fully understand there subject. You must, so you can teach the core. Thank you.
This guy is great. I have used his videos to quickly learn If and Landslide-two songs that have been on my to-do list for a while. Super helpful. Thanks, Fennah!
I think everyone is lucky to have Rob teaching Guitar Playing. When I started back in the mid 60 there was only one guy in my town that could do that, but he was in a band on tour world wide in those days. When he did get back he would show me one new chord is all, which I appreciated knowing how busy he was with music. In those days it was slow learning for anyone else as well who wanted to learn guitar, base, or the drums. So we made a few garage bands that were really bad, but it kept people from just easily giving up. Not a bad thing today either, if a person can just find one. A beginner base player or a drummer. Also wanting to learn music and get better.
Came on to youtube looking for a tutorial re this guys in love with you. Cheers for the lesson, very informative. Then I moved onto this video and as a newish player of advancing years I've learnt more in the last half hour than in the previous five years of surfing youtube tutorials, many thanks for that, though I've realised I do unconsciously play the open strings when moving between chords.
Rob you are such a great teacher I love learning new stuff with you. I have been playing the guitar since I was 14 I am 66 now and at last my playing so much better thanks to your teaching. I love your style. I hope you have a great Christmas and please dont stop showing us all how to be better. Thanks again
Hi Rob, you are the best tutor I’ve found on UA-cam for me as a beginner, I just need to get a printer to print off your handouts etc thank you muchly, my request for a tutorial would be Wild Horses by the Stones please
Thank you SO much for this........I have been struggling for over 12 months with changing chords fast enough🙏. I am going to try this unknown to me method of lifting fingers off a little and an upstrum while changing chords. Brilliant🎸
Watch you in the collie house back in the day!I am getting on now .iv had a few strokes. So your a great help getting me back into the guitar so thank you for that and thank you for your input in sharing all the little tricks you show ! Have a good new year Rob and thanks again
No matter what subject the video is on, I always learn something to take away from it. In this case the finger stretching exercise, never seen that before yet its so good for limbering up the fingers - Excellent! A belated 'Happy New Year' to you Rob & thanks for all your efforts throughout the past year and ever since the first lockdown!
Oh My! You just made my day with the no frets pressed on the upstring when switching. I just started at music school in September and getting really frustrated switching chords. Thanks a million ❤
Firstly, thanks for all the time you spend on here teaching us in your inimitable way! It is so greatly appreciated. Secondly, I hope you have a great Christmas, and a prosperous New Year. Thirdly, at the risk of being cheeky.....any chance you you could do a lesson on Going Home (Dire Straits) in the New Year? Would be great if you could! Have a good one.
I tried the had shaking but the arthritis was unbearable in the left hand. Not quite as bad in the right.😟 I'll stick to the other exercises and stretches.
Very good lesson Rob. such a down to earth approach. wish you lived in my neck of woods would certainly pay to have lessons from you. Have a great Xmas and keep the videos rolling.
Another great video Rob, thanks again for all the tips, I will look forward to what you have in store for next year, and hope you have a great Christmas.
Thanks for this Rob .As a beginner I find your lessons helpful and informative.Hopefully by following your channel I’ll get a tune out of my guitar next year.Have a great Christmas.
Cheers rob your videos are great if you ever get a chance will u check out the guitar by verlon Thompson and guy Clarke it’s a killer tune the chord progression is simple it’s the lead parts I’m after help with I nearly have it but a little help from a man like you would be top notch.. cheers rob and happy Christmas ur videos are appreciated..cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪 Brian ..🎸🎸🎸🎸🇮🇪🇮🇪
When it comes to picking, (solos, etc) I use to hold my fingers spread out forward keeping them out of the way of the strings (kind of like making an OK sign). I was missing strings with the pick way too much. I looked at players like Tony Iommi, Carlos Santana etc and found they held their fingers curled into their palm. I tried this hand form and found I am missing way less strings. It feels more like you are choosing strings with your wrist more so than your fingers but is much more accurate,,for me anyways. I found (for me) strumming works better with fingers forward, picking fingers inward. Don't know if you have any tips on picking accuracy ?
Hello, Dear Rob! I've been keenly practicing your way of playing the G chord but I've hit a bit of a snag. If, and only IF I could trouble you, I'd very much like to ask your advice. I've been strumming various chord changes to G, and developed the habit of placing first the pinkie finger and then the ring and middle finger at the same time. Now, when I do fast fingering instead of strumming , the ring finger always arrives late to play the bass note of the G chord. Should I practice reversing the order of finger placement (ring and middle finger first, then the pinkie), or continue as before until I become fast enough? As always, thank you VERY MUCH for what you do, you're awesome. My best wishes, and a Merry Christmas for you and your family and loved ones! 🙂🙂

Crazy! I've been doing that forever w/o ever realizing or thinking about it! Really fun the way he explains- like a private lesson from a friend.

Try to put all you fingers on ‘at the same time’ if you’re strumming. Hope that helps. 👍🏻🌲
