my ‘98 corolla was mint condition when i bought it but the a/c didn’t work😂still love the car i got it for only $750 CAD (yes in this economy) and it only had 109,000km on it
Having had a 98 ve 5 speed since the summer I will say I love the car. Reminds me of my 94 Camry I had in high school. I often find myself driving this over my versa hatch most days lol. Bare bones but bulletproof and simple.
This review makes me smile. (New to your channel, been watching the Mazda reviews). I currently drive an 06 Corolla ce, my first car, really, and for what it is, I absolutely love it and will miss it when I finally upgrade.
I have a second hand 1999 Toyota Corolla Gli powered by a 4afe engine (1600cc, 16valve, fuel injected). I haven't experience major problems in owning it for almost 3 years. reliable, powerful, fuel efficient and easy to maintain. I hope it will last for a very long time 👍
I have a automatic 1995 corolla, 246k, maual locks, windows, its not fast on the hwy, comfortable to drive, good visibility, excellent gas mileage. I bought mine for $600.
I believe the VE and CE had the tachometer as an optional extra. LE came with it standard. Edit: Logic Control Deck means that you don't have to manually push in a physical button to play or rewind a tape. It's controlled electronically. Back in the 80s, it was a fancy feature in tape decks.
"They're cloth seats, nothing to write home about, you're not gonna impress anyone you're driving around" While yes, as the owner of one of these corollas, I personally agree, I've got a good handful of friends who were surprised by the comfort a 2000 Corolla has lol
Way better then these mitsubishi mirages that people keep spending like 15k on. Toyota is awesome. Why spend 15k on a piece of crap when you can spend like 1500 on something that actually lasts lol
I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla LE in the same color as the one you are reviewing. I have a automatic that I wished was a stick shift and it has a tachometer , which is a waste in a automatic. It has power windows and locks , AC , and power side mirrors.
I love you way of thinking of how much you love old cars. So do I. And Toyota Corolla is the best car ever build talking about quality . Honda civics and Toyota Corolla are amazing goes for ever. I just bought a 2000 Toyota Corolla today runs amazing looks great and was only $100 bucks
Just bought a manual 5speed , year 2000 (137,000 km) in amazing condition, probably owned by an old lady... for CAD 2000... using it everyday with a big smile...
You did a very good job talking about the Toyota Corolla CE I used to have a Toyota Corolla LE Saudi got me another Toyota Corolla reliable cars and let’s not forget about the Toyota Camry good on gas Japanese cars hold up to their name thumbs up on your video 👍
Literally just bought a 99' Corolla VE 5spd a few weeks ago to replace my previous car that got totaled smh. Probably the best $800 I've ever spent so far honestly lol.
@@Craig0935 I live in Maryland, and there was a reason mine was $800 lol, it had 224k at the time of purchase and also had it's fair share of rust, mainly on the underbody and such. *BUT*, the interior was almost immaculate, minus the sagging headliner, it was almost like sitting in a low mileage example..just kinda odd (but great too) IMO. Back in April, I ended up accidentally blowing the motor trying to pass someone who was hogging the left lane (5th to 2nd downshift instead of 4th at 70mph..I still don't know how I managed to do that smh). Made it to 232k until the incident. I'm confident I could've got 250k+ out of the motor/trans otherwise. Still the best $800 I've spent so far.
My friend gifted me a 5 speed manual. I want it for the gas saving part. My friend unfortunately blew the engine but that's been fixed now and we are in the middle of putting her back together
I’m surprised that the manual transmission version doesn’t have a tachometer. I thought a lot of manual transmission cars back then had tachometers, or I’d you get the top of the line model.
It’s not a bad car, reliable, good on gas, Im assuming it’s a good car to learn how to drive stick in, and it makes a good daily driver, a point A-B beater car.
Hello all! I found this exact Corolla but burgundy color. It is in excellent condition the paint seems exceptional. It has 40 K miles clean title clean carfax. Had a beautiful cold start. They want $8k. Should I run?
@jordy luckily the door handles are only like $8 a piece compared to the hundreds for an expensive electronic Tesla one for when that finally goes bad. Advantage to simplicity
@Daniel Champion no 1ZZ-FE is in the 2000-05 Celica ST & Corollas & Matrix 03-08. This is a different engine. 1ZZ isn’t known to burn oil, the 1.8L engines are what Toyota is best at making it seems. Not 2.4L engines though. Smaller was better. The 1ZZ-FE in my 2006 Matrix is awsome & reliable. I don’t need anything super powerful, I personally don’t believe in modifying Toyotas, I find it kills their notorious excellent reliability.
Now these things are actually made in the States and also Canada but what exactly I would absolutely love to do is buy myself a 2006 Toyota Corolla CE and then install the JDM 4AGZ-E Engine and then add a Racing transmission System to it and then modify the hell out of the engine and try and get it too eight seconds in the quarter mile without NOS
Does your Corolla’s engine make a high pitched whining noise. My tan ‘99 Prizm did and I took it to several dealers for repair but no one could fix it! I even took it to a Toyota dealership since it was actually a rebadged Corolla. Even they couldn’t fix it but they did say the Corollas had the same issue! I hope yours doesn’t!
I’m thinking about getting this exact year and model Corolla with a 5 manual speed transmission for 1200, just waiting for the mechanic to install a brand new clutch. Plus the inside door knobs. Car has 164,478 miles on it. Is it worth it??
Sounds like it for this price and with todays gas. As old as it is the suspension is questionable (replace the strut/spring) and you need to know how much oil it consumes, all of them burn oil so you need to check once a month at least.
Am I looking for trouble if I want to change the entire dash of my VE for the one of a LE of the same year ? ...I am trying to make a LE of my VE.... (VE 2000 manual)
The '99 Corolla is a great driving car. Much more fun that my old VW Jetta. Better stability on the cloverleaf at speed. Get an automatic and you'll beat Corvettes off the line easy.
Either or will do. They are both reliable and cheap. If you're interested in aftermarket modification, get a civic. There are way more aftermarket parts available. But both will make good reliable first cars.
Lmao what? You know how big of difference 20 and 28 is in term of mpg? And the Corolla get 28 mpg while driving like a maniac. It get way over 35 mpg city if driven conservatively...
It's the thing for people who have more important things to do than worry about car problems.
Bought a 2002 corolla, the only fancy feature it has is AC, not even power windows, love it so far
my ‘98 corolla was mint condition when i bought it but the a/c didn’t work😂still love the car i got it for only $750 CAD (yes in this economy) and it only had 109,000km on it
Bought mine brand new and after twenty three years, it still purrs like a kitten. Never regretted my purchase.
Same here!! Still going strong
I drive the automatic version of this car. And this is my first car. I like it. It's such a easy car to drive.

your Corolla probably actually have a 7afe
When u need a car, any car to go somewhere, and this is in the driveway...thank goodness I know I have a car that'll drive anytime
Good job on the video man! I just bought a 99 to save miles and gas on my Ram .One thing you did not mention is the dependability of these.

It oozes reliability 🤣
That synoym for CE from Halo 🤣
Love it. Halo as so freaking good - love it!
Great review, as always!
I have one ce 1999 with 54k running amazing never ever had a problem
Logic means digital. There's button inputs going straight to the board and outputs to the motors are determined by the processor.
Thank you for the great review! You forgot, one of the PROS- Smooootthh ride
My daily driver. Super reliable.
How many miles do you have on it I’m thinking about getting one for 1200
Got a 98 been a great car
Great video. Love the 80's & 90's cars. Economy or Hatchbacks.
Some early 2000s aren't bad
I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla LE in the same color as the one you are reviewing. I have a automatic that I wished was a stick shift and it has a tachometer , which is a waste in a automatic. It has power windows and locks , AC , and power side mirrors.
I may be wrong but i think logic control deck means the controls for the cassette are electronic as apposed to manual buttons that are just levers

Damn that's a bargain. Those are like 2500 AUD here in Australia.

Literally just bought a 99' Corolla VE 5spd a few weeks ago to replace my previous car that got totaled smh. Probably the best $800 I've ever spent so far honestly lol.
I'm looking at a 98 CE 5speed with 109k miles for $1900
@@atypical_blk_guy Sounds like a good deal. Hopefully it works out
my country 30.000
=5000$ :))
Where did you buy it?? I live in the San Francisco bay area and everyone wants at least $2,500 for theirs

Just purchased a 99 Corolla CE with 60k miles 😃
May I ask how much you paid for it? Found an excellent one with lesser miles though. Not sure yet if price is too high
nice review
I’m surprised that the manual transmission version doesn’t have a tachometer. I thought a lot of manual transmission cars back then had tachometers, or I’d you get the top of the line model.
Just picked one up and ngl I like it better than my 335i and G35. 😅

I paid 300 for my 99 corolla...2.5 years ago 70k miles later I have 1500 bucks in it with all repairs
Auto or Manual?
I have a '99 CE and it has an automatic transmission. Apparently it was optional?
Less car for more money. Whoopee!
i fucking love 8th gens, only downside to these is the interior door handles 😭 other than that best bang for your buck in the reliability segment 😎
@jordy luckily the door handles are only like $8 a piece compared to the hundreds for an expensive electronic Tesla one for when that finally goes bad. Advantage to simplicity
@@Blakecryderman7244 they’re technically free at the junkyard if ya know what ya doin 🤔 (pick your parts)
That 1zzfe is excellent until it starts chugging oil for no reason lol. Ive got a BEATER 2001 Corolla S 230k+ miles and still doin it's job lol
7a fe is better cause it doesn't do that. Timing chains are better than belts though

Who’s still driving the Toyota Corolla CE 🚘⛽️
The radio also says compact disk and it doesn't have a CD player.

I absolutely hate that my mirrors are not automatic. 😭 Everything else is.
The brake sensor was on when you were rolling
Umm I don’t know what to say about the car but it’s a manual Toyota Corolla. I like corollas a lot but I have a lot of mixed feelings about this one .
I’m definitely waiting on winter I am so tired of summer he’s driving a Toyota Corolla winter time Definitely a good look for that car 🚘 2020?
The color is not beige ... it's "champagne". Seriously.

Can you install a pushbar on it?

No

I can't think of one thing this car does better than anything else

So do you recommend a 90s civic or a 90s Corolla for a first car?
Either or will do. They are both reliable and cheap. If you're interested in aftermarket modification, get a civic. There are way more aftermarket parts available. But both will make good reliable first cars.
Civics are better on gas from what I read
I see 90's corollas more than 90's civics , should tell you something .
They are both very easy to work on too, parts cheap asf, 1000$ can replace half the car brand new
90s corolla and for civics early and mid 2000s. But that's just me
Does everyone just run Steel wheels? I took hub caps off after one went missing. Looks better that way anyway.
The Corolla is just one of those cars that just belongs with steelies 😂
BRO YOU LOOK TIRED OR HUNG OVER IN THIS VIDEO LOL.
I also live in Illinois.
this car will probably outlive your kids!
Combat Evolved LMAO
owner is pretty hot too ngl

Piece of sh-t UA-camr and piece of sh-t family. I cannot stand them.
You spent more time talking about other cars than this one you are driving !
The gas mileage really isn’t super impressive it’s only like 28 average. My 94 f150 4x4 can get 20 average if I shift below 2200 and drive slow
Lmao what? You know how big of difference 20 and 28 is in term of mpg? And the Corolla get 28 mpg while driving like a maniac. It get way over 35 mpg city if driven conservatively...
