20hrs of footage! Dang lol I love that you explain your thought process at the end of the video. Thank you for that! The footage in this was stunning, stoked to watch the actual film 👍 happy to see another video of yohes, it's been a while.
Hahah yeah it was a lot of material to sort through - 8 or so interviews that were all at least 45 mins then all the other trip footage. Glad I had it all though! Thanks for watching Mike.
@@ScottBell It is easy to see and feel that you are not driven by money you guys do it because you love it. And you can see that in every second of videos new and old ones you guys did together. Content like this is hard to find these days. Keep on rocking.
Awsome breakdown Scott. This is some really helpful content for us starting to get into travel doc shoots like this. I like the minimalist gear setup, I use the same lenses 15-35 & 70-200 with my C70. Wondering about technique for shots like the one at 14:28. For getting gentle camera movement like that are you just shooting handheld? I often setup my gimbal when attempting shots like that, and would love to not have to rely on it as much. I'm always worried I would have too much camera shake. Thanks, cheers!
Thanks so much for watching, really glad it was helpful! The shot you are referring to was done with a gimbal. It MIGHT be possible to pull off handheld but would be really challenging to get steady movement.
Hey Scott, really enjoyed both the behind. the scenes film and the actual documentary. One quick question. How many days did you end up shooting in Iceland and how did you split the work managing the production and deciding where to go when? Were you in charge or did someone else help out with planning the time spent?
Thanks for watching. We were in Iceland for about 3 weeks. We had to really just follow the thread to known when to go where based on people's availability. Every night I would dump footage and backup so I could be ready to go again in the morning. I think we shot around 13 days of the 21 day trip. Myself and Mark Matthews did the majority of the planning with Bruno Long the photographer providing his perspective once we were out in the field.
Loved the video and hope to visit Iceland some day as well. Did you bring a tripod? If you did, what kind is it and where was it stowed on the plane. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. I forgot to mention I did bring two tripods. One is a very small tripod only for doing timelapse, and the other is a larger Benro video tripod. Both of these went into my checked luggage, wrapped in my clothing suitcase.
I love watching project breakdowns like these.
Thanks a lot for watching!
Just amazing how you got the concept, and how you were able to improvise when needed. Still pieced together an amazing film and story
Thanks a lot for watching, glad you enjoyed how the film came together!
