P.S. : this was a really well made video and a lot of the points made a lot of sense. even tho i still love playing cyberpunk and cant wait to see what the new dlc is like, i still see a lot of the issues that are mentioned in this video and they do kinda take me out of the love i have for the game when i notice them.

A friend of mine began transitioning about a year ago and it's been really disheartening to see how they've been treated by the wider world. I think the least I can do is make it apparent how I feel about the subject cause I'd prefer not to fuck with the kinda of people that would be so horrible to anyone who just wants to be themselves. I'm glad you felt safe to share your experience and glad that you enjoyed the video. The critiques of the game came from a place of wanting the game to be the best it could be. I can see why people might love cyberpunk 2077 and I'm open to sequels and it being better but I also think it's important to hold it to a higher standard and not leave us gamers to just accept its short comings or ignore the toxicity of the companies decisions. Again not blaming the Devs. From what I've seen they wanted to make something sick and management at every turn screwed them all over.
Anf if nothing else fuck Ben shapiro and Jordan Peterson 🤣

My sentiment exactly. Like I didn't hate it. I played it for 80 hours. The video took a week to edit and 2 months to plan. I want to love it. I think I could. But also believe that we as consumer deserve more and the Devs deserve to be treated like people. If you love it can totally get it and I'm always happy to see someone find their game.

On the immersion point, I would actually argue the opposite. The fact that you can experience such a somber and gut-wrenching moment as Evelyn's death then immediately find dick guy to me is just representative of the depraved and almost lawless nature of night city. All around the place while real people are suffering and losing, just around the corner will be another idiot. If anything I kind of feel like the silly moments enhance the gravity and seriousness of the big events within the story, its kind of hard to put into words tbh. Kind of a 'Night City waits for no one vibe'.

I can see where you're coming from. If anything it's a pacing issue that open world games just have cause of their openness but its jarring. Not saying serious stuff can't have levity but it just felt kinda tone deaf for me. Again these are all personal things. If you can look past them and enjoy the game sweet.

Yea, I’m hard disagreeing on the writing aspect. Our actual world is hyper irreverent and tone deaf anyways, and the whole “dying a nobody” thing is pretty fitting when you have messed up content right alongside campy idiocy. That’s how it is in our world already: one day on the news you’re gonna see a hate crime on the news and in the same day you’ll see a tik tok influencer coming up with a new dance. It’s a dystopia. Even the penis enlargement mission is pretty dystopian and fits with the theme of corporate rule, where corporations take advantage of sexual insecurity that society places in them and sell people faulty implants that cost tons more money to fix.

This is so relatable. I didn't personally know much about Cyberpunk for a long time after it launched. All I knew is it was a 1st person shooter RPG based in some sci-fi futuristic world and it wasn't my cup of tea. One day I had 30 bucks to spare and was like "eh...why not...". Now here I am on my 4th fucking playthrough and I just can't get the game out of my head.
And as an aside, I did not understand the bugs complaints from the video. I am playing the game on an old RX580 with FSR on, almost maxed out graphically, stable 50-60 FPS and I have never encountered any game breaking bugs in my 250 hours of playtime. Not a single crash, no flying cars, not even t-posing (which was hilariously disappointing, in retrospect). Could be some hardware difference, I personally have no idea.

Bought this game on the Xbox Series-X over a year ago and only fired it up for the first time a couple of weeks ago (and it seems I picked a good time to do so, as I wasn't aware of all the problems in the earlier versions). 50 hours of gameplay later, after completing all the main side character stories and an ending of my choice, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not a hardcore gamer though and was on gaming hiatus for over a decade until recently, so I don't have much to compare it to. As much I loved it, I don't really have the desire to do a second playthrough and have chosen to view all the alternative outcomes and choices on UA-cam instead. Looking foward to Phantom Liberty.

Started playing this game 2 months ago and somehow managed to stack 300 hours in it. I really love the combat and how badass it can make you feel at higher levels (not that it doesn't have its issues, it's just fun if you have a build in mind to adhere to), as well as of course the setting and graphics. Mods can also significantly improve your experience, so console users get the short end of the stick with this one. Beyond that, i'd say it leaves a lot to be desired, would have a hard time recommending it.

Hey, its definitely late but I just wanted to say great video. Personally I love Cyberpunk 2077, I don't know what it is, I just got hooked from day one, not saying the game was good then, but I liked it.
Also, about the end, i'll tell you why I prefer cyberpunk 2077 over the other options you mentioned.
Deus Ex: I want to play as my own character, not one pre-made. V isn't 100% mine but I get good customization with both the character creator and clothing (definitely helped by mods like equipment ex and cosmopolitan night city, allowing V to speak different language's while the other characters speak english)
Ghostrunner: Good game but it has way less content then cyberpunk + the problem I have with deus ex
Edgerunners: Its great but only has 10 episodes.
Tabletop: I personally don't really care for tabletop RPG's but even if I did, I don't have anyone to play with.
Definitely specific wants but cyberpunk 2077 more or less passes all of them mentioned. Which very few games do. Only others I like are Skyrim and Rimworld. There are definitely others that probably do that (like BG3) but if you don't want a top-down rpg, options are very limited.
About character customization, I cant tell you the amount of time I have spent just making outfits for V, or creating V's. The mod "Equipment EX" makes it far better then the base game, I know I cant credit CDPR for the mods themselves, but I can credit them for keeping the game open enough to mod it. back to character creation, There's also multiple body type mods. If I'm making a more ninja-like V, I can use a slim body. or if I want muscular V, there are options for that to, some of the body mods actually automatically fits clothing properly (including modded clothes without needing a patch) so there'ss minimal clipping. Best part is that there's options for both Masc V and Fem V, which as embarrassed as I am to say this.. its rare for Masc characters to get body mods in other games.... for reasons....
I think the reason why I like Cyberpunk 2077 is its basically the Skyrim of the cyberpunk genre. Buggy, wonky gameplay, not the best game ever, but fun to mess around in and has a ton of mods. I shouldn't like the game, the flaws are sticking on to the game like a tumor, but I do anyways.
I never really got hyped for the game until about a month before release, so I think that helped me just see it for what it was, and not what it was meant to be. Also mods add in some of the smaller things back like wall hanging and the metro (before it was added in an update)
I don't think we should forget the past, I forgive CDPR but I wont forget. The launch Is a permanent stain on an otherwise great catalog of games. Even though I don't believe in moral buying, I definitely understand why some do so, and I don't blame someone for skipping this game because of the horrid crunch the dev's went through. I think the dev's (including higher-ups) realized it was a huge problem. According to the Phantom Liberty director, there was little to no crunch when making the DLC. Of course he's the director so its not 100% reliable info but lower level staff did back up what he said. I hope the right lessons were learned with 2077's launch and they can do better in the future.
    source: www.ign.com/articles/phantom-liberty-director-insists-cd-projekt-has-moved-away-from-crunch

    @martinnic8235 Рік тому +1

Well, i admit that CDPR did not good move with old console platform, overwhelming advertisming and some missing features. But i got a game that i expected and for me it's one of the best games i ever played, it has a soul not like f.e. Ubi games. I have 380+ hours, readed all shards, founded all secrets, played all quests and still don't have enough, just a love that game... sometimes i just go to Night city and drive with good music in the radio.
And i don't know where people found these bugs, from day one (PS5) i have only few little bugs, nothing extra. I'm just lucky man in the games, others have tons of bugs i have none :D
    9/10 No regrets

Glad you got a kick out of it. Yeah games journalism is a hard one to solve as even with more mainstream news work it's not as segregated as gaming news. Like when you read the paper it'll have current affiairs global news sport whatever. Games journal segration and niche nature means they have to rely on sponsorship mainly from game companies to remain afloat. The only other potential means of funding would be fans maybe. But then that means very few of them could exist and budgets would be much lower. Who knows maybe the UA-cam era will stem that with more wholly independent reports but that has its own issue like having less checks and needing citation 🤔

The game usually crashes towards the end of my day but I think that's from putting long term stress on my hardware. First of all, imo it's not that hard to classify it, but neither is it really necessary. It's an open world first-person action rpg, but of course has its unique spin on it. In fact, it's conceptually just like the witcher in most ways, just in a different setting, with different weapons and with first person camera (and obviously less side content and less choices with visible consequences, but then again nothing else comes close to the witcher 3 in that regard anyway). It also has a looter-shooter feeling to it, but that's not really a genre, just a set of mechanics/way of progression that can in theory exist in many genres (which in cyberpunk is quite optional given crafting is a perfectly viable alternative). But regardless, it doesn't have to fit any existing categories, I'd argue that the format exists as a result of trying to provide a certain vision or experience, rather than directing that experience through the spectrum of an established format, both can be valid approaches.
About side content - personally I'd always appreciate more side content simply because it makes the game world feel more alive and complete, however given limited resources, development time etc. I'd give them the lowest possible priority. Most side content in games like GTA is skipped by majority of players (or played once, deemed boring and never attempted again, which is what happened to me), I still like the fact that those options are there, but really - once you finish GTA and all its side quests, there's nothing meaningful to do either (for most players). Yakuza on the other hand, really relies on those minigames, they're given a great focus and are an integral part of what makes the game so memorable - their silliness contrasts with the often dark and serious main story. The game is also mechanically simple enough to allow greater focus on those minigames. Also a nitpick - the roach race arcade game in cyberpunk isn't just in 1 missable location - it's actually all over the place, including in some of your purchasable apartments, I encountered it probably at least 20 times myself (not to say that it makes it good or anything though). I'd love to see stuff like spontaneous street races I can join, more city events like major gang wars or large shootouts between cyberpsychos and maxtac, there's some stuff out there but ofc there could always be more.
About traveling - hard disagree for me, I love traveling around the city, appreciating the views, occasionally stopping for some world events. In fact, I never end up fast as a result. At first I really hated the handling of most vehicles and I still think it could use some work, but once you get used to it, it's really not that bad and it allows you to do some really cool stuff like drift every corner and do akira bike slides. Only the very fastest cars I'd deem absolutely uncontrollable, everything else, while sliding around a lot, is manageable with a little effort and can be quite fun once you get there. I agree that navigation could have been better but personally I don't rly care since I just love driving around, figuring out my own routes, memorizing spots and how to get there efficiently etc. Not everyone's cup of cake though ofc.
The problem with using real licensed music is that it'd cost much more and what's worse - licenses would expire and music would have to be removed from the game in the future - this is the case with every single game that uses real life music. If you try to play old gta titles, you'll notice half of the radio tracks are just gone, along with half of the atmosphere the game used to have. Not that I wouldn't like more memorable tracks in the game, just saying it would have come with its own share of issues. Also, the model they went for helped promote some less known artists too which is great.
About builds - I have to disagree too. The fact that you can try multiple viable playstyles without hard-speccing into them is a good thing imo. The build system is not ideal, but it's really not that bad. Enemies feeling like sponges is largely dependent on your build too, you can use some real hand-cannon guns that 1-shot everything, in fact most non-automatic handguns are very powerful even without min-maxing. If you spec your character right for your playstyle, you can really have crazy fun. Same with stealth - it's ok on it's own but if you spec heavily into it and get matching cybernetics, you can do some crazy satisfying stealth parkour shit or pretty much walk through the crowd of enemies and kill them all before they realize you're there, check out some youtube videos of people doing it, it can be really fun. Smart weapons are some of the weakest in the game, specifically because they aim for you, necessitating balance. I'd argue that using smart guns is the least fun way to play (for me), and would recommend a sandevistan power handgun build, berserk lmg+shotgun+melee build or stealth+netrunner build.
I don't think ridiculous quests ruin immersion, it's quite literally the same thing that yakuza does, which you praised for its side content quality. In fact, it's kind of the whole point of night city, it's dark, depressing, life is shitty and yet people keep flocking to it. You have people starving next to billboards advertising some latest kitch garbage, tv's playing shows justifying police brutality. The whole world is full of those contrasts, that's what makes it stand out, you see the elites having fun and dealing with some idiotic issues like dick cyberware malfunctioning while the low blow their brains out because of their traumatic experiences, this isn't an omission, it's fully intended.
Also, cops do stop you when you kill pedestrians, if you kill any you get an instant wanted level. Taking a gun out in public is normal in night city, if you do so in certain locations though, gangs etc. can turn hostile. There are kids on streets, it's just not common (not that any parents would let their kids play outside in such city). And about the launch fiasco and performance issues - no comment needed there of course, I'm writing from the perspective of how the game is right now (since the video itself is recent).

    • @Kevstreehouse
      @Kevstreehouse  Рік тому +1

the main story can be a little short. The rub is alot of the optional side quest are interweaved with it like for instance one character has a whole ending associated with them but I'm pretty sure it's only available if you engae with her whole quest line so that can beef up the run time a bit. For this review I played through all the major characters side stories and clocked maybe about 26 hours and that was more or less critical path all the majpr side characters quest lines and a handful of inconsequentially side quest just for fun. My first playthrough learning all the ropes and trying to do everything clocked in around th 60ish hours. replay value I wouldn't say is major. At most it changes a few different dialogue options based on the starting path and you can maybe open optional paths depending on your build but I wouldn't say anything as significant as the likes of a alpha protocol or something like that. Hope this helped

As someone who is studying computer science and wants to do game development but also loves cyberpunk, it truly is disheartening to see what was happening behind the scene. As much as I want to encourage the development of games like cyberpunk, i would be dumber than anyone to overlook the humanitarian aspect of it all. It's really does outline how bad the industry is and sometimes discourages me from even being a game developer, but I guess sometimes you do have to be the change you want to see in the world. I could always be an indie dev, but that's easier said than done.

Give them time to recoup costs and make a little money and frees up resources to actually focus on optimizing games for those platforms. Cyberpunk at launch was agreeably a disaster. I pre-ordered the game on PC and couldn't play more than 4 hours of it. After getting into other cyberpunk genre games like Ghostrunner and Turbo Overkill I was still feeling that itch for Cyberpunk.
After the anime Edgerunners and the 1.51 patch for Cyberpunk i decided to give it another go. Since then I've been hooked on the game. Now with 4 hundred hours and multiple playthroughs i still find myself loving the game. I especially love the feeling of strolling Night City and the combat of the game. But i do still admit that the game feels shallow in some areas. Mainly the classes not being as vital to one's character as i was hoping, some ways on engaging combat feel very underpowered whilst some feel too overpowered and many other things.
I've taken the liberty of modding the game and i can confidently say that my current modded version is the only one that I'd play anymore. I'm really hoping that CDPR address some of the issues in the DLC. Mainly some combat aspects like enemies feeling too spongy and melee combat feeling a bit off. And of course vehicle combat and police chases. And maybe some attribute balances and perks in some skill trees being changed.
I never knew how much i loved the Cyberpunk genre and i most definitely need to try some of the Deus Ex games and other ones too. Really hoping that CDPR aren't done with Mike Pondsmith's TTRPG cyberpunk genre and will perhaps some day make another Cyberpunk game. Tho this time without management pissing on the development team and crunching another half-baked game. Fantastic video "K-Dog" :)

Generally a good review, but some things you, in my opinion, missed or got wrong:
    - the minigame can be played at several places, basically almost everywhere where arcades are, even in one of the apartments you can buy
    - the tone shifts were probably on purpose, because the world and NC in specific treats themes like death, human trafficing etc very casually and also is very over-sexualized, so those tone shifts actually added to the world building for me
    - "why come there be so few people in the city or no kids at all for that matter?"
There is an option in the settings called "crowd density", if you set that to high, there are a lot more people in the city, depending on the location of course, some places are more crowded than others. Not sure if this setting exists on consoles, at least on PC, it increases CPU usage, so it's definitely a technical limitation on consoles. Regarding kids - sorry, don't get it, I regularly saw kids in the city

Fluid class systems are apart of big rpgs and have been for at least a decade. V is an instant master, agreed. Points don’t offer as much as new Vegas true but it’s new Vegas but they’re solid bypasses for levels and a few open up new options, yes not as good as new Vegas but holy shit it’s new Vegas like no shit. Yes the guns aren’t the greatest it’s not a dedicated FPS shooter Fallout New Vegas (my favorite game of all time) has some of the worst shooting in a game period. Lol at the sponge enemies literally just build your class optimally and you’ll wipe the floor with anyone on any difficulty beginning of a game of course you won’t, you ran up to a dude with guts and barely did damage my guy you haven’t invested a thing into annihilation then. Bosses are the worst agreed. You’re mad melee is optimal… I guess you can be mad about that if you want. Lol plenty of guns feel like guns the only difference with guts is that it moves you backwards when you shoot so… idk what you want there. Lol wild tone shift? Bitch it’s an open world there’s going to be heavy quests, funny quests and depressing quests, sounds a lot like new Vegas but it’s not an issue there for some reason, also it ruins the immersion? Like what life isn’t one emotion, maybe yours is but the rest of us aren’t synths. Yes CDPR under delivered agreed. There’s a ton of kids in the game, cops do come after albeit in a dogshit manner that could be better. On the RPG part late marketing dropped this part. This of course does not justify the game and its skill point and talent trees.
While I do not thing classes are needed, it would be enough if the skills mattered a lot more. The problem is they do not, not to mention some of the skills seems to be even more useless than the others.
As it was not really explained in a good way I went with intelligence (net runner) plus technical. And honesty technical is not that appealing to me with loot everywhere. But this means I’m underpowered in my body and reflexes (both level 5). I do not feel like this matters at all. I would imagine that due to poor reflexes I should be worse in gun and any blade weapon handling and with less strength it should lock me out of certain things. For example there is some cyberware which require particular level for a skill but gorrila fists no, If V has the money you can buy them use them getting +4 to body.
I would imagine that a net runner will not be able to complete the boxing matches and it should be a different build, I imagine that a stealth V would have advantage in missions requiring stealth but without this skills it would be very hard to impossible to fulfill being stealthy.
After I’m some with my 1st play through (currently doing chores - I mean contracts that just feel like open world filler) I will do another one when I will invest (still in netrunning) but different set of skills and just go through the story to check if it changes the gameplay but I doubt it.
There is too many things that are just half baked, and I do not like the looting system but this is subject for separate discussion/rant.

CDPR downfall was the most predictable and laughable matter. Their writing in Blood and Wine was CW level of bad and their cult of personality single handendly rivals actual Mega Churches in their delusions. So the news of Cyberpunk 2077, game which by the title alone feels like corpo gentrification of genre (which is also proven by how game writers cut all actual fun and unique aspects of TTRPG while turning Yellow Peril to eleven, which beats most of 80s cyberpunk stories, where such fears at least made lick of sense), being shit was my pleasant surprise for my ego and yet even I was shocked by level of stupid and that even Investors feel justified in their law suit .

@@SayMy_User_Name well I played through it twice and have logged about 80 hours in so I think I did. Writing I thought was good in the more fleshed out parts it's just widely inconsistent in alot of the optional content and the moment to moment gameplay never felt right. Again if you dug it cool but I feel the narrative around the games quality never really mentions alot of the issues I found. 🤷‍♂️

@@Kevstreehouse Except that your criticisms are way off base. For instance in the RPG Segment you go off about classes, when the Cyberpunk system offers you way way way more choice in how you build out your character, especially when the Cyberware is factored in. I have played through multiple times with wildly differing builds that radically shifted game play. In Mass Effect(my favorite trilogy of games), there are only two classes that do this, Vanguard and Infiltrator(and honestly Infiltrator is fairly similar to the Soldier class), all of the other classes are variations on sit behind cover and cast you abilities. This is just a single example, pretty much everything you said after a certain point, was a mess of contradictory statements, and surface level criticisms. 80 hours in 2 play-throughs, tells me you barely scratched the surface of this game. My typical play through lasts 70-80 hours on its own, and even in those I didn't do everything that can be done.

@@stephendoe7594 again to each his own. If a game takes 100 hours to get good I'd say that's a failing on the games design not mine the players. Cause if you ask me that's not a good experience that's Stockholm syndrome. Plus in my intial playthrough I did do all the major story and side quest. The only thing I ignored was the side gigs so unless they drastically change the game can't say I'd take back what I say. Again if you like the game cool. Play without the HUD holding your damn hand and the world becomes a lot more than just quests to go complete and feels waaaaaay more natural and alive. Also if you only sunk in around 80 hours, good chance you missed quite a bit unless you were playing on easy and just mowed through the game. I'm on my 3rd playthrough and so far have had a different experience every time. Also, why would the main character stop to play mini games at all when they are actively dying?

    • @Kevstreehouse
      @Kevstreehouse  Рік тому

As far as I can tell I played through all the side gigs in the game, I kept the map on cause the city design never felt like it made any sense and I didn't play any more than the 80 hours I did cause I have a life and very little time to play games. As for mini games they're a design aspect that breakups mission structures and employed in literally every open world game ever so it seems weird to not have them. Also v is only dying when the story dictates it. By the same logic why would v take optional side gigs or do jobs for random strangers when he's dying. Plus the game has waiting built into its design and you can already play guitar or smoke in your apartment so there is already a precedent for the game to go for the immersion that mini games provides. Again if you enjoy the game good on you but I don't think it's much more than an okay experience from a technical and design point of view. 🤷‍♂️

@@Kevstreehouse There's a lot of quests that aren't put anywhere in the journal, so cant really go off the I checked all the items off my list to determine if you actually took it all in, a good majority of missions have different outcomes depending on how they are handled, different characters can either live or die, and effect the game later on, it just isnt thrown at you in the aspect you may be ecpecting it to. The design of the city doesnt make sense at first, but once you learn it, you understand why it is set up the way it is. Gotta remember it takes time to learn a city of this scope as well, doubt most people in life could move to a new city and have it down in 80 hours, just food for thought. I recommend giving it another go, because I tried to go back to The Witcher 3 after my first playthrough, and I could not stick to it, or become immersed like I could the last couple of times. The NPC's in TW3 may as well be additional Notice boards, they live in the world, but the player does not. The entire world seems to revolve around Geralt, where as V just lives in Night City, and nothing more, which sucks me right back in. And so far, aside from a couple of conversations I havent had any repeating dialogues, there's differences for almost everything, and at least 3 outcomes or results based on choice actions or dialogue you did or chose. Where as the TW3 it's just just a negative or positive result, very rarely does a middle ground or third option present itself. There's a reason the main questline can be completed in 4 hours it's meant to be played a few times. If you decide to give it another go and you are on PC, I recommend using, these mods to imporove the experience and remain faithful to the lore. DJ Korviiks Limited HUD Mod, 2018 Spicys E3 Hud Mod, Time Dialation Overhaul, Street Style (Makes your clothing choices matter to NPC's and gives some bonuses),, Better Throwing Knives, Lifepath Bonuses, Gangs of Night City, Enhanced Craft, Proper Level Scaling, System EX, Ripperdeck, Wannabe Edgerunner (Implents a stat to induce cyberpsychosis on the player causing them visual glitches, damage, weapon change, and accidental killing of NPCs and 3 star wanted level, must take neuroblockers or go to apartment and sleep to get rid of the glitches) , Immersive 1st person, immersive bartenderr, driving and Vic, Few others im prolly forgertting but oh weeell.

What's good is some of the best stuff I've seen but the inconsistency is so bad in those throw away quest. Again I have played 80 hours. If you do great but please stop trying to convince me there was something I missed. Cause what I missed I can honestly say I don't care. I don't like the game. If you do great glad you love it enough to suggest it but I'd ask that you respect my decision to not like it and move on.
