Not being able to pause and rewind live TV is a showstopper for me. I had to get this with my new home in a multi-family dwelling and so I have to pay for it, but prob won't use it. Only YTTV for me! Also can't add local channels to favorites or organize the guide with just my favorites. and I was told by spectrum the cloud dvr has issues and they are not even enabling them right now.
Just got the Xumo box, its 2024 but this box is like a 1997 box! I know Im not a tech geek, but I have not seen any kind of app or box that is so messed up!
Why I returned my Xumo: 1) it would frequently freeze when trying to access a recorded show on the cloud dvr, despite having ultra high bandwidth internet, requiring a reboot. None of the online suggestions worked. 2) when trying to fast forward or rewind a recorded show, all you see is the time, not the video stream, as with a dvr cable box, making it very difficult to ff or rewind with any precision. 3) very limited number of apps that can't be added to. 4) it would record all shows in a series, repeats and new, despite only new shows being specified. 5) when deleting a recorded show, it would default to the 'keep show' option instead of the 'delete show' choice. Fix those and I will reconsider. But for now, Xumo is not ready for prime time.
For what it’s worth, using Spectrum an app on Apple TV fixes both #2 and #3 but creates other gaps (loss of channel numbers). Just did a comparison video if interested: ua-cam.com/video/sZ1yjSwakOE/v-deo.htmlsi=YwQ_ZTrZlihwvzDd
So I just switched to the Spectrum tv choice streaming plan. Had Fubo but they lost the Discovery network programming & we did not get a cost reduction. Spectrum said I needed the Xumo streaming box but I could watch it thru Roku for now which seems to work fine, so why do I need the Xumo box - answer "for the remote function" . Then I asked how do I DVR programs - answer "you need the DVR Box" - OK so I picked up both at the local store. Now after watching this apparently I didn't need both with cloud dvr available? I wonder if the DVR Box works better than the cloud service than through the Xumo box?
Yeah my experience with DVRs is that the local, in-box DVR works better than the Cloud DVR but costs more $ per month. The. other thing people like (in concept anyway) about the cloud DVR is that you can playback your recordings anywhere, not just on the box at home. So if you have an iPad or smart phone with the spectrum app, you can see all your shows even if you are on vacation or waiting for the dentist. I'm not entirely sure what equipment you ended up getting from Spectrum but if you have a physical coaxial cable coming out of the back of the unit, then you have the Spectrum Choice TV (traditional) cable box which probably still requires a physical DVR - unless they've gone exclusively to the cloud for their DVRs. The Spectrum Xumo Box with Cloud DVR has an ethernet port / no coax cable port on the box...that is the one I have. That unit, at least the one I have, has no local DVR in it and does all its recording and playback in the cloud. Hope that is helpful!
Had it for 24 hours and returned it. The rewind and fast forward is ridiculous. You have no idea where you are when fast forwarding through a commercial.
Ditto the above. ^ Six months later still not fixed. The search is absurd. Can't see where you're at and definitely can't see where you're going... The screen goes blank and shows a time span of the search. What moron thought that would be useful should've been fired!
@btomas225 weird thing is, if you have another streaming device, try the spectrum app on that because on Apple TV, this feature works like you expect it to in the spectrum app. Can’t figure why it works worse on spectrums own stream box. Here is the video with spectrum app on Apple TV for what it’s worth ua-cam.com/video/sZ1yjSwakOE/v-deo.htmlsi=O0ydQdJiv2ukwOeQ
I can’t find a way to do the TiVo button you asked about. Went through a bunch of ideas in this weeks Q & A Wednesday for what it’s worth ua-cam.com/video/tC7WtaNnoJA/v-deo.html
It's only a "fraction of the price" if you ignore the rest of your Spectrum bill, right? The point of UA-cam TV is you can ditch your cable plan (if UA-cam has all the channels you care about.) Also the 50 show limit seems pretty meager compared to UA-cam's unlimited shows for unlimited period (IIRC - been a while since I used it.)
@@AndyMcFarland-lu9ftyes 50 shows but not 50 hours. Likely no hour count here. It’s interesting, I have filled my allotted DVR recordings and it says “50 recordings” but they are a mix of movies, Columbo episodes and 1/2 hour shows.
I didn't see an answer to this original question - you do have to pay for an expensive TV package before you can add this streaming box, right (with or without the cloud DVR)? The bill @ 5:00 shows basically $50 for TV ($49.98), and only $5 of that is the DVR service, right? So you pay $25 for basic TV, $5 for cloud DVR, $10 for Cinemax, and another $5 for Xumo? Is that $5 for one box, and the $5 multiplies per box you add (per month)? If so, I could see that getting pretty expensive for multiple TVs in your home like I have.
@engineer2001 yeah you are right I am paying $5 per month per Xumo box on their installment plan but you can either buy these flat out for $60 or use another streaming device - either way there is a point where you get rid of the monthly cost for the box. I’m doing $5/month for 12 months to pay off Xumo box. I just fact checked that with Spectrum support to make sure I didn’t misunderstand them. And so my charges as seen at 1:20 in the Cloud DVR video are $44.98 total for TV. That breaks down to $24.99 for basic Spectrum TV content, $4.99 DVR, $10 Cinemax and $5 installment for Xumo box. And yes to your other question: you would need to buy more Xumo boxes if you have more TVs, or use one of their other supported streaming TVs or devices. I got a Xumo box after I told a Spectrum rep that I was considering going to YTTV because with Spectrum streaming I can't pause and rewind live tv. She assured me that I could pause and rewind live TV with Xumo. I tried and it can't. It's going back tomorrow. One side note: One of the pre installed apps on Xumo is UA-cam TV. Funny.

We do but I do not believe it’s required to have their internet for the Spectrum TV app (just need internet of some kind). I could be wrong about that though.
You do need spectrum internet for the app. Mobile devices will have limited channels when not connected to your home WiFi. You won't have full functionality even if you're on another spectrum customers WiFi. Has to be your Modem it's connected to.
@shilueelmador2326 thanks for the information! I did not realize that it filtered the content off-network. Would be nice if UA-cam TV was closer to this in price. I do think UA-cam TV has the best live TV user experience but it got too expensive.
First I opened the Spectrum app, and within there, I clicked the left arrow button (just above the Netflix button) to get the guide to appear. Hope that helps!
When you are fast-forwarding, can you see where you are like you can with a standard DVR? I know when you just use the spectrum app, it doesn't show you where you're at, so you're fast FF through commercials with blinders on. Completely nonsensical.....
No I don’t see any kind of pay per view content including WWE. They have an “On Demand” tab in the Guide, but it looks like all rentals and purchases of stock movies and TV shows.
For those interested, at 3:25 he does admit that you can't pause live TV. If you want to skip commercials, you have to record first, then go watch it. This is where the lame 50 show DVR deal kills you. What a joke. You can't just pause a show you're interested in, add some bank time while you make a sandwich, and come back and watch commercial free TV for a while. Oh, no. Can't have that! We're going to force you to watch the tons of commercials on those channels that we already charge you for, buddy. (Unless you want to play the constant recording/deleting/maintaining your lame-ass 50 show DVR crap all the time - and note that those are shows, not hours. 50 half-hour shows amounts to 25 hours of DVR retention. In all other streaming services, you can see where you are in the process frame by frame. Again, unacceptable. Fix it Spectrum/Xomo!!! What a disappointment this is.
