My biggest gun regret was canceling a layaway purchase on a sub $400 marlin 336W at Wal-Mart in the late 90's. I was so broke I decided I needed the money more than that rifle and justified it by thinking I could just get one later. I cry a little every time I think back on what I gave up back then. Won't happen again. I just took delivery of my new Ruger made Marlin 1895SBL.
Yeah back in 1997 they had an amazing special for $349, I was 15 years old, getting ready for my first deer hunt. A few weeks later on my 16th birthday my dad handed me a big cardboard box and inside was a Marlin 336W, the same gun I was lusting after. 25 years later she is my go to feral hog and deer gun. I have AR's, AK's and a M1A, but nothing gives me more pleasure when I can get more 30-30 ammo and give the old girl a run.
I got one myself back in the early 90's and over 30 years later, it has taken countless deer, shoots MOA and is still going strong, Those 90's Walmart Marlins are strong, tough, accurate, durable and dependable.
I can relate, been there too. Sometimes in life, we need money first and the gun has to go. I sold my Marlin 444 for a pittance and regretted the loss even to this day.
I have my first rifle (Marlin 336) , I always think about tricking it out but thoughts are as far as it gets. I love to shoot it as it is and do pretty well at hitting what I want with it.

Hello!... May I ask you a question?.... Are you prohibited from owning all firearms?... What if you want to go hunting?... Can you have a shotgun, at least?... Or are guns and hunting totally not allowed?... I already know a gun for personal and family protection is definitely not allowed....
@@jasonbuck489 hi standard rifles and shotguns are allowed for hunting. No problem there as we have lots of pest feral animals that need controlling. Firearms ownership here is a privilidge via license and strictly forbidden to use for self defence.
So freaking true! I love lever guns, I do want one. Think people recognize the value of these guns, and the demand drives up the costs or at the least prices never goes down. I agree, wish Ruger would make a more affordable 336. 336 so easy disassembled for EZ cleaning and cleaned from the breech, plus it is a proven gun. Thanks for good thoughts.
@Wolf's Prairie Outdoors Glad your promoting a fun category of guns, no apologies needed. There are many folks in states that restrict the 2A(like me in California) and it's great to be able to maximize what we can. Plus it's fun to think we could be like the character from "The Rifleman" TV show. Wish I remembered who it was(think it was Hickok45, does make sense if it was him) and he shot 7 or 8 shots from a lever gun that wasn't too far off a semi auto rifle. And he was freaking accurate. Thanks for what you put into your videos.

Great video as always. Correct me if I’m wrong but take the 1894, I believe you can interchange the straight grip to pistol grip stock, as long as you also change the lever and are happy with a gap at the bottom as the bottom plate is different, it’s thicker and profiled at the back to fit the stock cut out. The guys over at marlinspares explain it better with a page on pistol grip conversions
I was told by Ranger point with 1895 the straight grip pistol grip are not interchangeable it has to do with the Floorplate, I wanted tge old stock and forearm on my stainless 1895 they only made them forbade pistol grip
I bought a marlin/ruger 1894. The rifle operates great and workmanship is very good. I do have one complaint. I like buckhorn style sights, the ones that come on an expensive rifle is plastic. I changed to a ranger point prcision sight. Plastic sights on a very expensive rifle is a bunch of crap. I found out ghe sights were plastic when I showed the rifle to a friend. The sights were cracked.
Do you think Ranger Point will work with Marlin, Henry etc and release some rifles with their upgrades as a complete “build” like a distribution exclusive? Thanks for such great content and information!
The 1894, you have part of the receiver sliding to the rear and exposing the side ejection port. Is there an advantage to this design compared a fixed ejection port like the 336? I certainly don't want may thumb on the pistol grip when you are working the action.
Thanks for this. I have an old Marlin 336C that I would love to upgrade. I also have Rossi's in .45 Colt and .357. Question...Looking for a black or dark laminated stock and foregrip for the .357 like on the 45-70 SBL... Any leads? Keep up the good work!
