I sold my 336 a few years ago it was a cs version. My local gun store here in Lockhart TX got a trade in 336 JM made in 1978. I paid about 500. for it. the store paid 400. It had some rust had a gun smith clean it up and re blue it. I Just got it back today and it's like a new gun.

I've owned several Marlin 336 guns, but my favorite was a 1983 Marlin 336TS with an 18" barrel and an English style straight stock. Beautiful gun. Had it for years and took a few deer with it. Ultimately a friend wanted it for his collection after I stopped deer hunting, so I sold it to him.

Excellent video. The trigger was changed from gold to blued steel sometime in the 80s and back to gold when Remington started producing the 336. Remington did manufacture the 336C in 35 Remington right until the end and I am still crossing my fingers that Ruger will introduce the 336C in 35 Remington. I referenced my Williams S Brophy guide on Marlin firearms to confirm the originality of a recently purchased 336 manufactured in 1988. Thank you for making this video.

What’s not to like about walnut and blued steel? Great firearm and historical review.

I got my Marlin 336 - 1970 Anniversary version from an individual at a gun show. I'd been looking for one for a couple of years, but I didn't want to pay what the dealers at the gun shows were asking which was in the 4 to 5 hundred range at that time. While at a gun show some five or six years ago I saw a guy with a Marlin lever action slung on his shoulder with a little for sale flag sticking out of the muzzle. I stopped him and asked what he wanted for it and he said 300 to 350. I told him I'd give him 300 right now for it and we made a deal. It is in good condition with a little normal ware on the stock. For a 54 year old rifle it looks and functions great. I feel I got a great deal at the time especially with what they are going for these days. I've made a couple of videos of me shooting it on my YT channel and i really enjoy just getting it out and shooting it sometimes.

An excellent video! I looked at a Marlin 336 labeled as 1967- 1968 today. I didn’t verify that date or JM on the barrel. I will be back at that gun store Monday with all of this great information. One question: should I be looking at the condition of the bore?

I currently have my Great Grandfather's 1949 336 SC waffle top in 30-30, sadly most of the finish is worn off as it was well used. I also have a 336 Texan in 30-30 and a 336-RC in 35 Rem.my dad also has a neat mint 336-A he bought new in 1975. I hope to find a Deluxe one day.

I own a 1946 made Marlin 36 carbine in 30-30. The Model 36 pretty much look identical to the 336 except it has the older square bolt. It also has the coil mainspring like the 336 but lacks the trigger safety button found on 336s and Winchester 94s. Curiously it has a four groove barrel.

Great Video!!! 👍🏽 Any opinion on the micro-groove vs. pre-micro-groove barrel?

I have my dads 336 that he bought new in the late 60's. It is in very good condition. I remember him buying it. It has a whitetail buck carved into the right side of the stock. I looks factory carved but have never seen or even heard of this on another gun. Has anyone got any info of how this may have gotten there?

You need a little fill light at the front so we can see the rifle. We can see you but not the rifle. Doesnt need to be much, probably even some large white card set up as a reflector might do it.

I have a 74 vintage 336 in 35 caliber. Love to have a 68 year model like yours in 30-30. Congrats, oh! You need more lighting. It's awfully dark in your video.

I have a 35 rem. Waffle top. Handed down to me from my grandfather. It has a H in front of the serial number indicating it is a 1951. You stated that they didn't make the 35 rem until 1953. Was there limited runs of the 35 rem before 1953.

The .35 Rem cartridge appears in the 336A and 336A-DL rifle in 1951, not 1953.

... the Marlin 336, 1894, 1895 are the most field serviceable of the modern leverguns ... a 10 year old could strip a Marlin levergun to basic parts and reassemble after being shown a couple of times ... not so with a Winchester 92, 94, 1886, 1895 and CERTAINLY NOT with a BLR
