We had an enormous army tank about 2 feet long that shot plastic missiles, around 1966. It also shot 2 1/2” board nails. When mom found one embedded in the wall, an immediate disarming was declared.

Actually we really never used it. It was very expensive to ship and shouldn’t be out in extreme heat. We had a retractable string for construction that works a lot better than spraying silly string. It was on the news that it was a neat idea . But no one used it practically.

It still shocks me that kids these days lack the intelligence to not eat random things. 4 or younger I can understand but 5 or older? Kids are idiots tbh. I was born in 1999 (year/age reference for following information) and I had Legos and those magnets and never even thought to chew on them or swallow them. Even at 4 years old I understood it was dangerous. I remember telling my sister to stop chewing on a Lego because she could choke and die. 4 years old and I knew it was fatal. Kids these days don’t even understand death or consequences and are such snowflakes they cry if they scrape their knees. What ever happened to going outside and getting hurt? Yeah your arm is broken but you learned from it. Don’t even get me started on sheltering… like who ever thought it was a good idea to shelter kids from death, s*x ed and reality?!

Two favorites; a Mr. Ed talking hand puppet, and a toy gun my dad made for me. He got an old shotgun body, sanded and refinished it, bent some appropriately sized pipe, and finished it. We had the best toy guns around. So good passers-by frequently asked to look at them more closely. Now, even at that age, we could discriminate between real and toy guns. Now, these days, that vision scares that hell out of me. But we were SO proud of our toy guns! I don't own a real gun, but an impressive selection of ancient and medieval bladed items. No one accidentally kills someone with a 9' boar spear. Updates will be provided LOL.

I personally did all of it and never had a issue. If I wanted to go hunting, my father would bring me and show me the right way. Fireworks my mom would hand me her cig to use and when it start to go out i hand it back to her and she took a few drags then hand it back (20 years ago and i still laugh at her for that one). Never a issue though cause they made sure to I did it correctly and safely. One of my most favorite lessons from my father when I got into dirt bikes was if I was about to wreck, fuck the bike. don't even think of the bike, think of yourself. Told me he could replace anything on that bike or even the bike itself. He can't replace me is what he followed it up with. Drilled safety into my mind so hard. That the way to do it. If you wanna try something, make sure you got the right support to teach you how to do it. Doesn't have to be your parents either. I learned how to drive from my boss back when I was a pool boy and couldn't of asked for a better teacher.

What was most dangerous was that when you ran out of the liquid goo, whatever that was, and your folks wouldn't pay to replace it, you started looking all over the house for things to put in the molds, I experimented with all manner of stuff: crayons, army men, chemicals like aluminum powder from etch-a-sketches and mercury from thermometers.. Totally Awesome & Far Out video Narry... took me back to my childhood.. fortunately for me (although others say otherwise) I survived the toys given me by my Mother, relatives & friends during those "formative years".. as for the "Jart" game, my family had it.. my "brainiest" moment was to place each of the two circles on opposite sides of the single story house, 1 in the front yard, the other in the back yard.. then kids would split up and stand on either side "close" to the circle (of course!) then flip the Jart over the roof top in an attempt to score a "direct hit" inside the circle... well of course we had lots of "close calls".. bet Steve can't beat that...

I miss those metal-tipped lawn darts. My mom even told me how the neighborhood kids would play a game. They would toss one of these spears up into the air as high as they can, then scatter away trying not to get hit. Man, those were the days. We need more of that.

The computer was my favorite toy to play with when I was a kid. And here I am now! Working great with a couple of operating systems, worked with a few programming languages and feeling at home when I sit on a computer, cuz I've gone thru so many reinstalls and setups that everything is familiar. Never made a buck tho. It's just a hobby.

I also remember lawn darts, AND I remember being told to be VERY CAREFUL while playing. I also remember being told in no uncertain terms, "STAY AWAY FROM THE ROAD ! If you have to cross a road, look both ways, make sure nothing's coming, then get back in your yard ASAP. A car can very possibly kill you !" Now a days, I believe, parents tell their children,"Go play in the street, and if a car comes...flip them off." Or else, parents just don't care !

I grew up with 6 sets of 3 lawn darts . We all over this game.
    Rule # 1
Always stand behind the person throwing the dart.
    Rule #2
Never throw a dart when someone was in front of you.
    Rule # 1and 2 sometimes got ignored.
But hay that just made the game so much funner.
And it honed your avasive move fast skills.
