Hey Rummates, today we will talk about the recent documentary Quiet on Set and how the entertainment industry has historically gotten away with exploiting young actors. Specifically looking at Dan Schneider's role in all of this.

Joe Bell and Tracey Brown were dismissed as being helicopter parents, yet they were correct to be wary of their respective teenage sons, Drake Bell and Bryan Hearne, being left alone with adult men. My sympathy goes out to Bell, Hearne, Jennette McCurdy, Alexa Nikolas and countless other people who's childhoods were robbed by Nickelodeon.

Hollywood calls every parent who wants to protect their kids "helicopter parents". Given the context of how many child actors end up in dangerous situations with producers and executives because their parents weren't watching them, it's actually really creepy.

He's not sorry because he genuinely feels bad about all the hell he put his cast and crew members through or his jokes being genuinely disgusting and inappropriate for a KIDS audience, he's sorry because he's gotten caught and is being called out for his disgusting-ass behavior.

There's a circulating video of Dan Schneider hugging Miranda Cosgrove from behind on the iCarly set, during her 18th birthday celebrations. She visibly looks uncomfortable, with various cast and crew members also seeming unnerved, yet they didn't speak up, due to Schneider's power.

@@justinstewart9145this was a problem I had with the documentary. I understand wanting to lay out the evidence so people understand the gravity of the situation, but the sensationalist way they did it did not sit right with me. I know that’s how true crime is but… ick. Don’t look so excited talking about the details of a child predator, and don’t use such dramatic music. A lot of important things were uncovered and I’m glad people are talking about it, but the documentary itself was beyond tasteless at times.

Drake's story and how Dan practically allowed a predator to destroy a parent's protection broke me. His father tried so much to shield his son from a man that was clearly sick and trying to entrap children. Stop blaming Dan for Brian Peck and his crimes literally nothing to do with Dan because he was doing it outside the studio first of all second of all Drake's mom left her with brian, and Dan did not even higher Brian nor could he tell if he was a PDF file just because he wanted to, Brian was not a convicted criminal at that point neither was Jason handy so it was their first chance either to do something or was their first time getting caught. You all should be focused on finding out where Brian lives and protesting to put him back in prison rather than wasting your time on Dan schneider, the dude doesn't have allegations towards him like getting anyone pregnant that's all rumors from the internet, and don't tell me Amanda Bynes said it because that was debunked as someone hacking her personal information from a photo with her license and creating a fake Twitter so that's out but if it was that realistic of an allegation then the people that were victims will come forward and one will submit a DNA test and the other will admit the hospital it happened at as in the abortion, and they will find the records because that's the way to prove simply those conspiracy theories those are not legitimate so if Dan didn't do any of those things then why is he accused of s-a if there's no accusations made by anybody and accusations made by the previous employees were also up in the air because there's no evidence, plus you come out this long later and admit this stuff, no the adults there's no excuse they could have came out 5 years ago even 10 years ago and said that but they didn't so there's really nothing on Dan but people trying to get him to go to prison for no reason or trying to get a paycheck out of him, a toxic work environment is everywhere but in the industry, there are many other people involved higher ups and different people that and is not to be blamed for, he never hired Brian peck, neither did he know what they were capable of or what they were doing because one was doing something online and the other was doing something outside of the Nickelodeon Studios which Drake's Mom let that happen so not really Dan's fault other than Dan being there for Drake when he was going through all of this, well after he found out

I know the sentence “this ruined my childhood” gets thrown around a lot but truly… this ruined my childhood lol. I looooved Drake and Josh, I loved the naked brothers band. I idolized those kids and knowing that they were treated such a way destroys my heart. I don’t know I think we as a society need to start rethinking the industry in general and how it hurts everyone in it. Children, adults, all traumatized by the corrupt industry and extreme standards that it creates… how can we fix this? I know we want entertainment but is it really worth hurting these people so much? Especially so young? I just don’t know anymore. Hearing Allys story about some female producer just ruining her first kiss and making her feel valueless was so crushing cause I actually loved her growing up. I always wondered why she never acted again and knowing is because of this extremely traumatizing experience has me in tears 😭 I hope they can all heal from this and only become stronger.

These industries were never meant for kids in the first place. They’re not safe because that’s not the goal. People have been saying this for years, I’m saying Sheryl temple and Brooke shields days. People just now have more evidence from actual victims. I do believe that many people on set know. I once did a film class and we got to talk to a big film director that worked in Hollywood. We each got to ask him a question, my question to him was “ how are children protected in the film industry?”. He was a little taken aback. He basically avoided my question and deflected it saying something about how they make sure children still do school even on set. I didn’t ask how children balance school and work I asked about safety.

This is bolstering why I’m hardcore against innuendos in kids media. The whole “it’s for adults, kids don’t notice” argument doesn’t fly. Why make inappropriate jokes in front of children at all?? I didn’t get every joke as a kid but even just the flirtiness in Victorious and other shows made me uncomfortable. Like it does feel like it’s setting up kids, especially girls, to internalize and normalize their sexualization.

I would see the outfits that the girls would wear and how they would act around the male characters and I thought that that’s what I had to do at my age. I was aged 10-15. Thankfully, my mom would never allow me to buy clothes that were too revealing or form fitting, so I actually didn’t start wearing those kind of clothes until I was 18. Looking back, I was definitely influenced to sexualize myself back then. I’m just thankful that I had parents would didn’t let me dress that way

@@queenofcats9240 I remember how in middle school, a lot of the girls put their phones in their boots because Alex from Wizards of Waverly Place put her wand there. It's innocent but it kinda shows how kids and young teens impersonate fictional characters they find mature and cool. That means they also want to copy their social life, dating life, and how they dress and act. I think girls can wear whatever they want and it's really on the adults to check themselves but at the same time, young girls don't comprehend the way they're being perceived and that the adultification they experience isn't a form of flattery or maturity. It's scary being older and looking back at it and seeing it get worse due to social media.

It was so unnerving to hear and see what Dan subjected children and his crew to. The way he would treat women, children, and poc’s on set is disgusting. Also, the fact that MULTIPLE child predators and pedophiles were cleared to work on these sets with children is terrifying. There were so many people who stayed silent because it either benefited them or they were truly scared of Dan. It’s horrifying to think about all of the people who were negatively affected by Dan and the predators that were allowed on set and it’s honestly heartbreaking to hear about how these kids are grown up now and still suffer from the trauma of these environments that they had to work in because they were chasing their dreams

This is the issue I had with it. There’s always a minor adult joke that is written for the adults watching with their kid that goes over the kids heads. It’s usually something that is genuinely funny and so small it’s harmless and more of an inside joke for the adults who seen the show/movie. And kids will laugh when they grow up and get it, but it’s really really minor. When you have a live action show where the teens are being played by actual minors (not 20 year olds) and every other joke is a sex joke that is literally acted out by them then it’s a HUGE problem. Just the fact that Dan had that joke with Jamie Lynn and that gel on her face and Alexa remembering all the boys giggling and saying it’s a c*** joke and her not understanding at the time is unacceptable. The boys btw were her age. That isn’t a harmless throwaway adult joke.

It's CRAZY that the actor who played T-Bone interviewed him and not an actual reporter/interviewer who would've really asked the vexatious questions having him on his toes and a stuttering mess hence the controlling part. It took 20 years for this to be a main topic, although people have been complaining about this industry for AGES!! I’m not even sure if this will be enough to change anything. Unfortunately it is power>numbers.

I've been watching so many people talk about the whole nickelodeon situation, and everyone has such good takes. Dan is just sorry he got caught. He needs to be locked up for life. I hope everyone who experienced traumua due to him can eventually find peace. Those children did not deserve any of that.

This is a systemic problem in Hollywood going back to the beginning. I'm glad people are finally hearing about this, but those demanding why certain people aren't speaking up, they have. Plenty of aligations or comments have been made by them or hinting at who was being hurt. You can find UA-cam videos going back years on these aligation. So, when people demand why this person or that person doesn't speak up, they did, they were ignored, they want to move on.

This isn’t just about Dan Schneider. It’s a DHS investigation that’s going on in the United States and it’s been going on for a few decades now and they’re starting to actually be able to press charges and in prison people. There was an Oklahoma official someone from Utah as well as California government officials that have been charged for Tex trafficking.
From Diddy dolls to Dan to government officials in the next 10 to 20 years I hope everything is able to come out. There’s a massive ring going on that involves women and children of both genders being abused in this country for the benefit of very powerful people. It’s quite disturbing and I do hope that their are genuinely ethical people trying to deal with it all.

I feel bad after my first post. Here I was talking about the two beloved white people and dismissed anything people of color have experienced.
Tronn did an interesting video about black stereotypes on dan schneider shows and after learning about the racism on set, these stereotypes may have been more intentional.
I liked his points how most of his female black characters were the angry black woman and also dark skinned. Andre’s grandma was the butt of the joke which underneath is sad because the joke is making fun of her mental health. The keenan and kell skit made fun of how black actors in the past were also know for playing “mentally retarded (i forgot the new name for it. Sorry about that) which brings more nuance to her character’s discussion.
Lastly, tronn discussed how the one light skinned black girlfriend of Andre did not speak and was hyper sexualized, in a way, which is another stereotype.
It is interesting seeing this perspective on it and sad considering we liked some of these characters. Helen, being the favorite due to how the actress played her.

Things that I did not like about this doc you series. One, a lot of it was old information stuff that again channels like yours have covered before. Two I think it could’ve gone for one or two more episodes and really deep dived into who was behind especially those later double entendre jokes. Who was pushing back on this how was this stuff getting through. Who decided to go with a footprint logo for nickelodeon? I want to know who in the big offices, the C suites, were allowing this to go on. It seems very clear to me those people were in on it too. We need further exposure. If mainstream media wants to keep up with channels like yours and other deep dive investigative channels on UA-cam, they need to use their clout to go deeper. They’re not doing that they literally put out some thing off the backs of other people. I find the doc you series exploitative in and of itself.

Why does everyone assume he isn't sorry at all? Is it possible that you all just choose to believe it? Like, if there were sure signs of sorrow, you would choose to ignore it and insist he's remorseless? Kind of like how the jury knew Tom was innocent in To KiII a Mockingbird and yet still found him guilty.

Imagine if he was so confused and left out a lot of things people are saying he left out in his apology because those things that people want him to apologize for were either never even brought up by the people they claim our victims of like Amanda Bynes getting pregnant by him, he's probably confused about that because some conspiracy theorists made it up not one of the cast members not anyone of credibility, just a freaking weirdo out there who took a picture of Amanda that had a picture of her license in it and got her information and then made a Twitter using it to steal her identity, to put out the theory that he impregnated her, goes to show who can be sick in this world and sit there blaming Dan for it when he's probably lost about some of the conspiracy theories made about himself I don't understand Humanity anymore they just say that certain things are true and they run with it with no evidence and no credibility, they just say it happened so it must be true😅😅😅

    • @SAMEntalhealth

I am going to say something kind of wrong.
I can’t imagine what drake bell went through. That trauma will never go away. If Drake bell did the things he was accused of, I can’t not justify it, but now I understand it.
Edit: wrote before the rest of the video, but do feel like this at times. The big however. However, Alexis Nicholas (nichols) has been speaking up forever and no one talks about her after this docu series came up. Maybe, because people did when Zoey 102 came out, but it just feels weird that through everything, she is forgotten about, in my opinion.
Seriously, what happened with the female writers are horrible and disgusting. Someone having to act like she was sodomized is a nightmare and violating. I can’t believe one institution perpetrated every fear women have when it comes to the industry or any environment they are in. I just can’t.

Some of y'all are so sick and twisted you wished your narratives of certain topics should be true just so you can get your way and not be bored😅😅😅 you're basically saying you hope that she did so you can have evidence to put this man in jail when that would entail Amanda actually getting impregnated which is absolutely disturbing but being that there is little to no evidence to that being true at all, you still want to believe that disturbing conspiracy theory that has no type of factual value to it at all in no way shape or form just like Jamie Lynn Spears getting pregnant by Dan Schneider that whole conspiracy theory, there's reasons that those things were not brought up in quiet on set because those are not legible nor factual conspiracy theories of value, because they don't hold any weight at all but we don't want to talk about that though right
