FYI: the theme wasn't 'garden of time', it was Garden of Time - which is a story about aristocracy, class struggle, destruction, passage of time. The fashion was SO disappointing, feels like designers just dressed everyone in a random floral dress that was already hanging in their wardrobe rather than create something inspired by the theme. Yes, there was technically a garden in the story - but everyone dressing in florals would be the equivalent of everyone wearing a smart casual outfit for the 'Catholicism' theme because that's what they would wear to church.
In your opinion who got it right? I wouldn’t know where to begin.

Exactly so many people this year judge so many looks and called them horrible and I’ll be back when they were the ones on theme because nobody took the time to read the book
so many people were only giving “garden” and completely disregarded the “of time” portion.

Tyla understood. The dress code short story of Garden of Time, in the end all the garden was destroyed and what was left were two statues that turned into sand! Making her Sands of time. also her sand dress was so fragile it can only be worn once like the sleeping beauties in the exhibition. she delivered🔥And Art pieces are carried😂🔥
Garden of time isn't just.. about a garden or flowers, its about a story. I don't think everyone paid attention to the actual story..

i don't know if anyone thought the same, but when i saw zendaya's look it really reminded me of the capitole from hunger games. the flowers, the eyebrows it was very reminiscent

exactly as a 'anything magical, garden, time, fairy vibe' this is such a fun theme and you can do so much with the shapes and fabrics and stuff, but oh well

After hearing about the “garden of time” short story, the gowns with crystals that look like ice is on theme because the flowers had that look.
Lana’s gave death after the flowers are picked over. And it is very difficult to make something exquisite and elegant look simple. I am sure it took hours to create and stitch it.
Jessica’s was beautiful and definitely represented the abundance of the garden before the couple of the story picked each flower to buy time.
After watching Jack Edward’s video, he provided many creative ideas to nail this theme. I did agree there needed to be more duality outfits (half light, half dark outfits) or gowns with clocks within them to represent the time metaphor the author had.
Some suggested Alice in Wonderland. They could have used time being a villain before we see it as a privilege. The color scheme of the second film would be so cool to see.
As a bibliophile I’m disappointed the theme of the met Garden of Time which is a short story which is so metaphorical they could’ve given us more than just flowers that is just so boring and lame. I wanted to see stone work and thorns, soliders Lana ATE!!! It was highly literal but still.
I feel like many of these people don't want to think to deeply about the story, because they are the counts and countesses of our time. Doja, to me, is the only one who served history.

I love dojas outfit. In the end of The garden of time, the count and countess die, because time and the mob catch up. Its giving french revolution.
After the french revolution, putting on a white dress and making it wet so it becomes see through and bodycon was a real trend, and thats what doja did. Making it a t-shirt sets it in our time. Her outfit says "time is up" to the counts and countesses of our time and i do live for that

Alia Bhatt’s sari was beautiful. It was intricate, beautiful, and had many sparkling details without going overboard. It was elegant, but had its own simplicity.
Chef’s kiss. Also, considering her reputation as a famous Bollywood actress, put respect on her name.
At this point, it should be renamed to Meh Gala.
I dont think ariana was giving as much either time, though it was a beautiful gown. I really recommend to people who are interested in learning more about the theme and the backstory and influences etc and why the attendees could have given more, Luke from HauteLeMode explains it all wonderfully.
The count and countess turn to stone in the end, so making the top of her fit hardshell is more on theme than any of the flower dresses

I would suggest watching jack Edwards video on the short story that inspired the theme for the met. It helps you see the vision in some of the designers choices a little better.
