Technically, the concept of using Ion Cannons has always been there. I don't know about the ball turrets but the game Empire At War clearly has the ion cannons as a subsystem for capital ships and is apart of the ship-to-ship arsenal.
I love the design but the negative space seems kinda the wrong thing for a star destroyer/fleet carrier. You would want all the space you can get for storage
The first thing I thought when I saw the negative space was "Damn, this thing can carry a star destroyer". I legit thought it might've been like an Imperial version of Halo's Infinity.
its probably meant to act as a mobile space station, in point defense logic you want your weapons to not only be near the core of the ship protecting vulnerable parts like the bridge, engines, and reactor, but you also want to control the air-space around and in front of the launch vector for the hangars, creating a ship with a large forward/bow focused anti-starfighter defense array to protect its hangars is an excellent way to do this. you don't want all of your point defense in one spot, you wanna spread it into multiple defensive lines starting with the farthest from the vulnerability, followed by a second defensive line to eliminate stragglers, followed by a final defensive line maintaining the heavy artillery to take out larger vessels or tactical missiles. additionally, i'd like to add a minor design revision that allows some of the negative space to be used to repair or maintain a medium sized vessel like an arquitens light cruiser or something similar.
My interpretation is 'finished' versions would have massive doors that could close, allowing it to carry absurd amounts of cargo, or tractor beam damaged ships into the negative space so repairs could be performed in the field with relative security
They are interesting but at the same time, there is a major lack of logic in that negative space design. It just don't fit the universe (still cool). It has no internal space for a reactor anymore. As someone who is 57 years old and saw the original "Star Wars" in the theater in '77, it simply AMAZES me that somebody at a computer can create feature-film quality effects superior to what a multi-million dollar film production company could back in my younger days.
This is absolutely incredible! I slowed down the battle to 0.5 speed to enjoy it and tbh it looked better than nearly every professionally produced space battle I've ever seen :)
What I really love with this shot is that Howie adds in what sounds like the supersonic "crackle" from real life rocket engine exhaust when the camera pans around to the rear of the ship. It adds a layer of weight to the sound design which is extremely fitting and should be used more often.

If I were to use the Xyston but had to keep the cannon, I'd make it target other capital ships. Beast case scenario it one-shots all smaller ships, if not, than the shields take a massive hit and the ship becomes more vulnerable.
I watched the videos mere minutes after it came out. The models and animation is so highly detailed!!! The fact it takes months to make this is why I appreciate his work more!
I believe it is large enough to potentially dock a star destroyer in that space as well. Kind of like a mobile space station with a bunch of fighters and firepower.
@@alephkasai9384 He also said the negative space was used to ventilate the smell of stormtrooper armor. The Magister probably can't fit a single ISD since its on a kilometer longer.
Amazing! The detail of the animation is as good or even better of what we see in the movies and shows. It shows how much technology has advance when it comes to use CGI in this kind of projects
This is just more evident of Disney's total disregard of what the fanbase has asked for this type of fantasy talent and how they have ignored it and totally dropped the ball.
Yes, I design Star Wars capital ships myself. I'm already drawing the Tarkin class Star Dreadnought. which is a Star Dreadnought of the First Order, with more than 22 km capable of carrying more than 2,000 TIE Fighters and 80,000 Stormtroopers. This ship would have more than 4 reactors made with experimental technology, in addition to having three Commando towers. This ship would also have invisibility generators and class 0.5 hyperdriver. It would have more hidden hangars and the ability to carry a Resurgent Star Destroyer in the umbilical hangar.
@@Obiwan7100 Amazing....!...! I used to draft various ships for the Empire and had a concept for an Imperial Carrier a full blown capital Navy fighter and bomber class carrier
I am really loving that interdictor. I like that people are going away from the entirely smooth upper and lower shells on imperial ships, and adding in extra details such as guns or other such hull pieces, rather than just implying all the guns are mounted along the side
I really hope that as the leadership changes over at Lucasfilm that they very seriously consider reaching out and hiring, or at least contracting with folks like Howie, EC Henry, and Fractal Sponge. There is so much potential if they worked together, all of the incredible ideas and good-faith canon friendly modeling by the creators, and all of the resources of ILM and Lucasfilm. I made a blaster rifle for star wars that I call an ABR-75, it stands for Adaptive Battle Rifle, it comes with four configurations, first is the Assault configuration which fires at the same power as an A280 and fires in semi auto, full auto and 3 round burst, and has a 250 shots and 400 meter range, second is sniper configuration and in this configuration the barrel extends a few inches and fires high power blaster shots with a range of 2000 meters and 50 shots, third is Anti Tank configuration that has 10 shots and fires explosive shots with 250 meter range, fourth is stealth configuration and it comes with a second under barrel with a built silencer and it fires metal projectiles and is feed through a 15 round magazine into the blasters hand grip and the blaster pack is loaded into the gun by breaking the stock open similar to a double barrel shotgun. It's kinda like the clone commando blaster but it doesn't require you to change out barrels so use the other configurations, you just press a button setting on the blaster and you're good to go.

This is super great work by true fan and artist! Still after long look I have issue with ship design. Command part of ship is right near engineerng and fighter bays... which means every important part of ship is in one place leaving most of its size, space pretty much uselles.
@@howlofwinter8264 It still more vulnerable to attack from a compromised hull integrity, less armament and hangar space that could be carried, and a reactor bulb situated near the engines.
@@howlofwinter8264 But if you think about it, 1) design is vulnerable because everything from shield generator to all what I already mentioned must be at one place so any enemy attack will after explosion of that part criple or rather destroy entire ship which is not case in normal design. 2) Alright lets say in other section of ship are storage areas for spare parts etc, now when they need personel and that parts in main hangar bay they need to move them from front part of ship! Because there is just not enough space in that main back part for any of this. 3) I say it could be fixed if wings would be wider all the way up to main hangar bay giving enough mass to move command forward + enough space for all service areas. :-)
Seriously well done. I love how there are heavy turbo laser canons on the bottom too. I never understood why everyone puts all the big canons in one place on the top but they don't spread them out and never put any on the bottom. They're space ships, not boats. How was Axanar greedy? As far as I know, they were sued without any kind of cease and desist, or warning. Also, CBS ruined the fan films, they didn't have to make strict guidelines even if Axanar was in the wrong. And the "must be armature" part of those guidelines makes me think that CBS didn't like the fact that it looked good.
@@papastalin8269 The money that the project was raising was being used to build a professional studio to make professional for profit projects after the Axanar project was done, and they where selling "official" Axanar merchandise to boot. The lawsuit was necessary due to the fact it had become a professional studio stealing their IP, which under California law requires more then just a CnD, and the guidelines where CBS basically going nuclear on the problem. The response to Axanar was 0% "because it looked good" and 100% " because it was extremely illegal and under copyright law CBS is legally obligated to protect its shareholder's property and do something about it". Having been a witness to the events as they happened Axanar's production was almost a cartoonishly incompetent affair in terms of how brazen they where about breaking the law to make money off the Trek IP.
Adding that much firepower to what is essentially a carrier makes it more akin to a Battlestar then anything else. Such a vessel would probably be better served chucking the turbolaser batteries for more space to potentially do onboard repairs and hangar space with most of the defenses done by the escort vessels. A carriers strength is in it's strike craft, so focus on that, but this is the Empire we're talking about. Needlessly big super vessels is their thing. Still looks cool, though
One thing that Star Wars always lacked was people actually thinking about how a real military would have designed vehicles and units to fight in its universe’s terrain and against specific enemy units rather than prop designers trying to make a movie look good. Halo and even LOTR actually did really well in this and I’m glad to see it in the Star Wars universe again
The tanks in Halo can be taken out by small arms fire, has massive targeting silhouette, and a turret ring with almost as much surface area as the hull. A real world military wouldn't consider a design like that any more than a star wars land vehicle.
@@pepperedash4424 I’d like to introduce every single tank ever. I’m not saying everything in halo is perfect by any means but they put more thought into it than saying that couple million clones could fight a galactic war or that Jedi wouldn’t use guns because of course they would
@@Scaphism36 Then you'd notice something is up with Halo's tanks. We aren't given a specific number, just millions of units of clones. This can be explained by Halo being made by tech oriented people and leans more heavily into sci-fi, while Star Wars being made by Hollywood and relies on fantasy.
@@pepperedash4424 I get that and that’s what I’m saying. Look at the Death Star or ISD One, every capital ship and space station should have point defense turrets but they’re not grand enough for the directors or whoever to think of them. Those octuple turret banks are EVERYWHERE on this thing. One more on each side up front, and those large ball turrets that really do remind me of the ion cannon on Hoth are all replacing one or two of the octuple turrets in even more banks, top and bottom. So much good weapons coverage.

As someone who is 57 years old and saw the original "Star Wars" in the theater in '77, it simply AMAZES me that somebody at a computer can create feature-film quality effects superior to what a multi-million dollar film production company could back in my younger days.
P.S. - That ship is BEAUTIFUL. Truly LOVE that design.
I've recently just been introduced to him and I already love this!!!
This is absolutely incredible! I slowed down the battle to 0.5 speed to enjoy it and tbh it looked better than nearly every professionally produced space battle I've ever seen :)
Love it! LLAP!!
What I really love with this shot is that Howie adds in what sounds like the supersonic "crackle" from real life rocket engine exhaust when the camera pans around to the rear of the ship. It adds a layer of weight to the sound design which is extremely fitting and should be used more often.
I seriously love EC Henry's Nebulon-B.
It feels so natural in any imperial fleet
Don't we all! 👍🏻
☆☆OUTSTANDING☆☆
This work is incredible. Such great details. I love it all. Can not wait to see the short stories!!!
☆☆☆Thank you so much for sharing with us!!!☆☆
Strange how some fan can make a design like this which looks like it belongs in the star wars universe and Disney comes up with the xython class.lazy!
If I were to use the Xyston but had to keep the cannon, I'd make it target other capital ships. Beast case scenario it one-shots all smaller ships, if not, than the shields take a massive hit and the ship becomes more vulnerable.
I watched this animation just the other day... truly amazing and i don't think I have seen better! Not to mention the sounds you hear....
*"Hello There and thank you!"*
General kenobi
I watched the videos mere minutes after it came out.
The models and animation is so highly detailed!!! The fact it takes months to make this is why I appreciate his work more!
The Eclipse used to be my favorite star wars ship design. Used to.
I really wasnt expecting to watch star wars themed video with ALISON, my favourite artist, in background. I am speechless
I believe it is large enough to potentially dock a star destroyer in that space as well. Kind of like a mobile space station with a bunch of fighters and firepower.
According to Howie himself, it's supposed to fit 2 star destroyers keel to keel
@@alephkasai9384 He also said the negative space was used to ventilate the smell of stormtrooper armor. The Magister probably can't fit a single ISD since its on a kilometer longer.
Beautiful modelling, nice lighting and textures. smoothly animated camera. Really nice work.
Disney: this will make a fine addition to my collection.
Exquisite work! Fits right in with any Star Wars film or TV Show!
"You need to see this"- cliché
*ding!
‘You better come take a look at this” cliché.
I believe Eckhart when he says that cause it's usually something like this . :)
Because, of course, _No Film is Without Sin._
Cinemasins
I love these types of videos, so much great work going on in the Star Wars community it’s great to see
imagine the things Grand Admiral Thrawn could do with something like this
Amazing! The detail of the animation is as good or even better of what we see in the movies and shows. It shows how much technology has advance when it comes to use CGI in this kind of projects
Fan: creates a stunning ship.
Disney: Hippity Hoppity this is now my property
*Imperial Weapons R&D:* * *looks at Lucrehulk* * let's take this donut and make it a criminally cut pizza slice
Won't be surprised if this star destroyer is stolen by you know who
But Star Wars doesn’t exist in the Harry Potter universe...
Howie Day is brilliant. The Force is strong with him.
Just the title and I knew: magister
Really Majestic Ship. The engines are massive. Really good work!!
Disney and comic writers: Is for me?
I really hope that as the leadership changes over at Lucasfilm that they very seriously consider reaching out and hiring, or at least contracting with folks like Howie, EC Henry, and Fractal Sponge. There is so much potential if they worked together, all of the incredible ideas and good-faith canon friendly modeling by the creators, and all of the resources of ILM and Lucasfilm. If the rumors are true and there's change coming, this would, in my mind, be one of the best ways to patch things with the fanbase as well as set the tone for a new era of creativity and design.
Disney is definitely gonna steal this and give no credit
Lawsuits are still a thing
@@mrgopnik5964 Oh like Disney doesn't have Lawyers like the Empire has Stormtroopers.
@@seanjenkins2188 Unlike Stormtroopers, Disney Lawyers have no Aim issues, and can penetrate Plot Armor.
@@raharmakis DAMN, very good point.
@@seanjenkins2188 yes, but paying those lawyers is a nightmare and their reputation will be hurt, even when they win. They might even compensate the creator when he fires the lawsuit, in order to leave the whole thing and keep his mouth shut
Ohhh my... congrats!!! Looks amazing!
That thing is nuts! Beautiful work!
That's by far the best looking fan-made footage I've ever seen, it even puts the Disney Sequels to shame.
When the fans do a better job than official Disney stuff.
More fans than employees
The second I saw the ship my eyes lit up brighter than the north star
That looks amazing!
So instead of hiring this young man and paying him to make some AWESOME ships for the SW universe, they will just blatantly rip off his work and walk away as a bunch of a holes.
The modeling on this is insane! Amazing work and I need to sub!
The Empire: "We break for nobody!"
Get the feeling people would need to run from one end to the other or the battle (film) would be over.
People like Howie Day should not be making star wars fan films but Actual star wars.
Amazing work and shows the passion and skills that true fans have.
Fans are creating these ships, and the actual movie crews create garbage like the Xyston... Tell me who is doing the better job?
Meh. I don't like this design, (cant do a Marg Sabl maneuver) but at least its something new and creative.
I saw the original video before these one, and man its beutiful, also it has engine sound and its just NEAT, dudes we need these guys working on star wars series or movies, guys you are great
Hi beckards stairs i really like your star trek videos!
His corellian frigate looks awesome as well
Only a matter of time before some Marvel editor decides to take one of these ships
this is absolutely beautiful, I'm amazed
I wish I had the skill to make something like this, it is so cool looking!
Do a little bit every single day ☺️
Disney should hire this guy his animation is some of the best I've ever seen!
This is super great work by true fan and artist! Still after long look I have issue with ship design. Command part of ship is right near engineerng and fighter bays... which means every important part of ship is in one place leaving most of its size, space pretty much uselles.
Not really because there are gun emplacements and hangers at the front of the ship and I think it may have a bunch of necessary stuff elsewhere
I don't like the giant space in the middle but this does show tremendous imagination.
Can’t wait for the full release
Can’t wait until marvel shamelessly traces it
@@rhett5058 awwww damnit too soon 😭
The Corgi part always gets me. Cool vid too.
I hope this doesn’t go the same way as Star Trek’s “Axanar”
You mean the creator trying to make a professional studio with the money and the results being as expected?
@@ZontarDow I mean this guy getting sued for copyright infringement because Disney notices it
@@papastalin8269 CBS noticed Axanar long before they considered a lawsuit. Axanar's greed ruined Star Trek fanfilms.
What a magnificent creation. This will make a fine addition to my collection.
Loving the Imperial Nebulon B!
Which became a huge problem later on when ships got close. Real life battleships and carriers have point defense to shoot aircraft because of course that’s a no brainer
Oh, yeah. Howard E. Day ROCKS!!!!
He had to of course. Your pal was rocking POV-RAY back in the day.
Props and Cheers Mr. Day!!!
Wait until Star Wars makes an announcement of a new short film and it’s just this film blatantly ripped off
Those octuple turret banks are EVERYWHERE on this thing. One more on each side up front, and those large ball turrets that really do remind me of the ion cannon on Hoth are all replacing one or two of the octuple turrets in even more banks, top and bottom. So much good weapons coverage.
