- Sonic Chronicles is a MISERABLE FAILURE, but I wish it wasn't. This Nintendo DS title is Sonic the Hedgehog's ONLY RPG game, and it has a lot of good ideas! Unfortunately, they're surrounded by the rest of the game which is a dismal failure of a video game in almost every way. I wish that wasn't the case because when this game is good, it's good.

Sonic has such large cast of characters that making an RPG just makes sense
Reminder the reason why there isnt a sequel is because of Ken Penders’ tomfoolery
Well yeah but legally, we he won.
This was SEGA's tomfoolery. Had they got their shit together and managed their owned properties correctly, none of that would've happened. But they didn't get their shit together...and still don't
@@johnnycakemusic4069 actually were both right, cause either if Penders didnt do anything or what you said we would’ve gotten a sequel. I will side for Penders cause it is a bit stealing.
Wait a minute. Why do you say that?
@@mitchellhancock7920I might be a little wrong, but Penders sued SEGA and EA because the events/characters of this game were similar to things he’d written for the Archie comics. Archie lost his contract, i.e. they couldn’t prove he agreed to give rights of the characters to SEGA, so he was able to claim like 200+ characters from the comics, including that of an echidna tribe similar to the Nocturnus clan from SC:TDB.
He saw that this game existed and tried to sue again, but the case was dismissed multiple times due to something about Statute of Limitations. If SEGA made a sequel, Penders would be able to sue again.
I’m not well versed in legal stuff, but basically Penders is a twat and the entire Sonic fandom hates him :,(
@@zigzagintrusion Yeah, I've heard about how much the fandom hates him and seen how they make fun of him plus the fact they at times call him out for things.
I think it made sense for Cream to have such a harsh punishment for messing up a move. If you have her on your team and level up her PP and health recovery moves, you’re basically invincible.
I still don't think all or nothing is ever a good game mechanic. Especially in a game like this where nothing makes sense.
cream is the best support in the game by far, like its not even close. she trivializes parts of the game and makes the item system lowkey redundant, which is good because taking an entire turn to use items is really, really bad on a lot of characters
@@Garrulous64 i agree tho I always thought even as a kid that you should be punished proportionately to how much you messed up
There's a chao that, when equipped, makes that problem go away it's the green unique one.
I used to do the same thing! 😂😭
this game holds a special place for me, wish it never flopped so badly because it was actually interesting...
P.s: Whoever made the blue ridge zone puzzle, I hope both sides of your pillows are ALWAYS warm
Oh god i DESPISE that puzzle….
I actually have wanted to glitch way past it.
@@awesomeocelot7475 the only thing I have a burning hatred for in this world
OH FUCK I REMEMBER THAT SHIT NOW, I THOUGHT IT WAS A METROPOLIS PUZZLE THAT I HATED BUT IT WAS THAT FUCKER
Sonic chronicles had potential and if it came out amazing Then I think there we be more rpg sonic games and I wish it didn’t fail because I like the idea of having a rpg sonic game
Ngl, the portrait art looks like if BioWare had the audacity to edit already existing art using Ai lol
Sadly with the past lawsuits related to this game, then I'm not sure if we'll ever see something similar again
I think Frontiers formula will evolve into a director of RPG.
@@GnidelThat would be super cool but I don’t think that’s what the Frontiers formula will evolve into. It seems to lean into more a mix of Open World with DMC-like Combat and Platforming. Hopefully I’m wrong though
If you be as nice as possible to Amy for the whole game, she actually directly confesses to Sonic that she made Dexter up just to make Sonic jealous. (This happens around Chapter 10 before the final assault, she kicks everyone out of the ship in order to speak with Sonic alone)
I believe there are more bonus conversations with characters based on how you treat them, but the game deals in extremes so you won't see them unless you fully comit to being snarky or nice.
In the end it doesn't affect how the story plays out, but I wouldn't say the choices are entirely pointless, since they do impact some things.
I always thought the Date that was being referenced in SatBK was from this game
@@nixx7912 That could work, but personally I always thought SatBK was referencing Unleashed instead, since if you talk to Amy enough times, you get the option to agree to go on a date with her after Dark Gaia is dealt with.
small Emerl correction: there's a side quest where Emerl is mentioned, where you bring Nocturne artifacts to a 'Nestor the Wise' guy on the Kron planet, but it's VERY throwaway in the wider scope of things
Funny timing. I remember watching an Alpharad video that compiled him streaming the whole game. Had the same crash issue, but I don't remember how he got around it.
This game has such a sad story around it, whether it was the looming EA buyout of Bioware, the rushed development as a whole, the many rumors as to why the music is as... minimal as it is, and the fact that the events of this game are dropped down a memory hole due to the Penders lawsuit.
I figured that seeing this pop up in my notifications with the "Garrulous64" name would be the most genuine review I would hear. The fact that there is a whole lot of frustration says everything to me.
Man, I wish more people understood that sort of stuff when they criticize the game. I mean, it doesn't make the game's flaws go away, but the creators hardly deserve any flak about it.
yeah the fact this game had potential but thanks to the timing of dev stuff was left to the B Team's B Team (for those unaware the dev team got basically cut in half so they could be added to the group that was working on the Dragon Age that was being made at the same time) just SUCKS. Penders was just the mountain of salt on that wound.
I remember when I was a kid, I would just play this game over and over again. I think I was practicing speedrunning before I knew what that was.
So I think there might be some more optional dialogue, or perhaps your choices actually do influence what dialogue you see, because my initial playthrough as a child absolutely did mention and reminisce about Emerl.
I wish I could test out how that works, but the game is waaaay too long for that.
@@Garrulous64 I totally feel you. I am in no way going to go back and check myself, but I'm fairly sure they actually kind of go into some detail about Emerl's creation, and his place in the ranks among the other gizoids, amongst other stuff. Also, the nocturnus clan is the "Fourth Great Civilization" that was mentioned in Sonic Battle multiple times. Or at least the nocturnous clan was, until Chronicles was decanonized. Hmmm, I wonder what other "Ancient" in modern canon could fill that role nowadays...
@@SupeSonicBoom Emerl gets hinted at during the echidna side quest in the Kron colony
The echidna states that he had a gizoid friend but once they were pulled into the twilight cage he couldn’t find him amongst the other gizoids
Considering emerl was the only gizoid left on sonics world, it was most likely him
Other than that, I’m not sure if emerl gets mentioned again, though he might when you first encounter gizoids
Man, I love how Bioware paid attention to detail and manage to connect SA, SA2 and even Sonic Battle into this. I wish this game was canon because it fits so well paving something new while respecting what came before.
True but that was downhill
It was, but Penders lawsuit shot it out of canon
@@aozorahaou2643Hope he kicks the bucket then😡

Honestly I’m still mad that the enemies and characters from chronicles can never come back as some of them were well written and all the designs are great
They even set up another god like entity named Argus in a side quest. Argus is the tentacles you see in the cutscene of the past. He’s a being who rules over the twilight decides if a species is too powerful to exist in the normal universe.
Also in this same side quest, Emerl does actual get a mention (thought I should mention this as you said you wished there was one)
Overall, these characters will never appear again and it’s such a shame
Thanks Ken Penders
Real Kron Hours
Never say never.
Putting rpg and Sonic together into one is what makes me love this game.
I'll admit I loved being mean to Amy cause she annoyed the heck outta me with her constant " my boyfriend" crap.
Being mean to Amy was one of the best parts of the game.
How to make Sonic fail; Make an RPG with no experience with how it would work with Sonic characters
How to make up for this miserable mistake; Collaborate with Nintendo and make a Paper Mario game featuring Sonic
I love how you can make Sonic confess his feelings for Amy in this game lol
Wait, seriously? How did I miss that as a kid?
@@___________0Z0X you have to like be nice to her at every interaction I think. It is missable if you miss a nice interaction I’m pretty sure. But not 100%. I only got the option on my first play through
@@michaelkennedy2254 thanks for letting me know.
Not sure why you said Tails sucks in this game, because I found him to be even more broken than Cream. Medi-Bot will cause the characters to auto-regen HP and PP for several turns, and it has one of the easiest minigames to execute out of all of the POW moves in the game. Have Tails cast it on himself and one other character. Then cast it on your other two characters next turn, and bam, you basically have unlimited HP and PP assuming you keep reapplying it every couple of turns. I never used Cream much because I had a really hard time executing her POW moves and had really bad luck getting a Ferox to hatch.
But yeah, loved this game as a kid because I loved the Mario RPGs so the idea of a Sonic version of that was really cool to me, but oh boy does it not hold up.
Yeah I agree never played with Cream Tails though 😍, Tails is so op with that ability I used to think he was garbage but after discovering this ability ho ho ho, not anymore.
Oh boy listing to you talk about the combat system makes it so obvious that you fall for the exact same trappings as most people do as Chronicles is rather bad at explaining it self.
So here a few free tips how to play Sonic Chronicles
1) Healing and PP restoring Items are unlimited Rouge can steal and unlimited amount from each enemy and how good the version of that item is depends only on the level of Rouge Thief skill max it out and Rouge fetches you infinite max power healing items by the mid game.
2) Tails Medi-Bot is really good as it restores PP on top of HP and it does give more PP than it takes so let Tails make one for him self and the next round can he start giving massive heals for HP and PP to everyone.(you ask how you win without Cream. You do it with Tails because if you set him up can he actually do more than her. And if you have both is your team pretty much immortal)
3) You can also easily restore PP in the early game by using the defense option as during every around in which a character defenses will they restore PP so can Sonic per turn restore 3 from the start as he gets to move 3 times per turn. Add an equip-able item that restores 2 pp every turn and Sonic has a full axe kick every second turns.
4) Support moves are just so good in this game. Like even outside the obvious Cream and the already mentioned Rouge stealing and Tails Heal bot. Tails can also give each characters more action per turns which means more opportunities to attack, use items or restore PP with a defense, Tails can also massively weaken enemies to where regular attack spam works. Or you could do the exact opposite and have Amy power you have to make regular attacks hit hard.
And Shield bot and wall from Tails and Cream respectively can greatly increase defense and Omega can just flat out make you immun to damage.
5) The game is actually lying to you about your states Attack is actually accuracy and defense is actually evasion. The real attack and defense states are hidden.
6) From attack moves are Combo moves just busted like Sonic and Amy's combo attack after 1 powerup from Amy can 1 shot like almost everything if you do the command correct.
So now that you know all of this I hope anyone that plays Chronicles after reading this has a better time knowing that the game just sucked at teaching its systems to you if it isn't just directly lying.
(Nestor will actually talk with you about Emerl if you do his side quest and presume his creation was the crime that made some god throw them into the twilight cage)
Are you serious?? The stats aren't what they say they are? That's such a Supreme bullshit move, no wonder this game is dreadful to play. I figured Speed would increase accuracy.
I was leveling up mainly attack and speed the whole time, but I still feel like I missed way too many hits.
@@Garrulous64
Yes I am serious.
The problem was properly born because Bioware was mostly developing Wester RPG's and in them is Strength the state that defined attack power and Attack which defined accuracy.
Some characters have inherently better attack states. Like it makes no sense to ever give Cream extra attack points as she won't ever hit anything anyway.
While Speed is almost exclusively important for support characters so that they can apply buffs, debuffs and heals before the enemies can attack or the attackers on your team come to there attack as if they attack first will they miss out on the buffs.
Constantly missing at low levels is by the way also a staple of old Western RPG's which Bioware developed.
The only way to hit consistently in the early game is with pow Moves which accuracy is entirely dependent on the players ability at the mini game.
Which is also why I gave that little tutorial for early game PP restoration as its really helpful to actually hit.
This makes me almost want to try playing Sonica Chronicles again, almost.
Gonna necro-post the mess out of this comment and say the game does not actually lie to you about the stats.
It very clearly lays it out in the codex what everything in the game does including status effects and what the stats mean. Everything you stated here is in the codex.
It's just not intuitive because attack USUALLY means attack power, but it just doesn't in this game and you would never know unless you checked the codex.
Still waiting for the Sonic advance 3 review
I'm not gonna say it. 🤫
Actually if you have Cream in your party during the Gizoid encounter on Kron you get dialogue referencing Emerl. This could have been a good series but there's always something that hits Sega hard. I did do five playthroughs of these as a kid when I was bored but it was hard on my first playthrough and it took me too long to play this. 😭 The Penders Lawsuit ruined this. Thanks for visiting Garr. I found this game on the used rack in GameStop when I was like 10 or 11, and my mom got it for me for my birthday. I then forgot I had this game for another decade.
I know I personally don't tend to like RPGs but I loved Chronicles. Thought it was odd years later when people said they were crap. To be fair, same thing happened with Black Knight, Unleashed Wii, and Shadow the Hedgehog. I just don't think I tend to agree with the average on everything. I remember playing through this game at least 10 times memorizing all the chao and equipment locations so I don't miss them. I also distinctly remember how suprised I was that Omega was actually in the game and is one of the only miss-able teammates.
To be fair, you can blame whoever in Bioware told them to rush the game out which is why it was made the way it was with these flaws. Also, from the end of Chronicles, I always imagine that would be more likely be a lead up into Sonic Unleashed (hence why we see Super Sonic at the beginning of the latter game), but your theory's just as good. Also, darn KP for exiling every echidna outside Knuckles and the dead Tikal.
Alright,
Here's the issue that causes the crashing
It's not the emulator.
It's the Rom, the most popular Rom download for Sonic Chronicles from most sources is one specific Rom, and the dump of it specifically, is bad, and has random issues like crashing on Pow Moves. If you get a different version of the Rom, it will not crash, it's how I got around the issue.
If it's a USA Rom, it's screwed, go for an EU Rom, or dump it yourself(if you like torturing yourself), get the XenoPhobia version of the rom, or something else.
Just not the one that's 80 MB or is labeled USA, because it is a bad dump
I tried multiple versions of it though. Different regions and everything. Are they all bad?
@@Garrulous64 that's weird, I tried the XenoPhobia version of the rom and it works perfectly fine, if you try that one, it works like a charm, I've tried it on both the latest DeSmuME and Drastic, and that version works.
Like I said, the most popular version of the Rom gets around, and eventually it's the easiest to find.
Look up the XenoPhobia version specifically and you'll find it just straight up doesn't crash.
It doesn't really matter now, you've already kinda suffered through the game.
But if you're curious you can try it out.
It might be that dumping this game in particular often causes issues, I'm not that into dumping ROMs besides surface level things, smarter minds figured out the issue, and I'm just relaying the knowledge.
I mean dumping a DS game really isn't that complicated if you have a 3ds as they are so easy to mod and ones you have done so can you just use Godmode9 to rip the rom to the SD card.
Eh. Doesn't really matter at this point, video is done.
Emerl was mentioned and given a bit more backstory during a side quest on the Kron colony
20:38 What do you mean? He's always been a good egg, trying to advance society into the next phase of evolution... robots. Sonic just simply can't appreciate his vision.
It's bizarre how this game is not merely bad, it's bad in ways that Bioware RPGs usually aren't? Did they have the C-est of C teams working on this?
Nope! They had more of a B+ team, who had actually researched the much more expensive storytelling from the Sonic comics, invested in making the characters kinda interesting (some of them, at least, Eggman and Omega in particular), and delivered on expanding the world the game takes place in.
The issue is more like... it's hard for even GOOD creators to make a quality product when everyone around them is screwing them over.
SEGA was unclear and scrapped most of the music remixes, Bioware got bought-out by EA mid-development which caused time-crunch and rushing, and ANY thought of an unlikely 2nd try was scrapped by the comics' former head-writer (not Flynn who wrote for Frontiers, but the one before him) throwing a tantrum due to his raging Echidna addiction.
14:46 So she becomes god... again.
instead of a goddess of destruction a goddess of life and protection
Didn't Emerl get mentioned at some point if you talk to an exiled echidna?
That's possible, I may not have found that.
@@Garrulous64 There's a massive side mission involving Nestor on the Kron colony, who's an exiled Echidna. Most of the games Twilight Cage and Echidna lore is dumped there. It was honestly interesting story wise, but the gameplay objectives kill it. In order to actually progress his mission you have to scrounge up artifacts and tablets either hidden around the maps or tied to other side missions. (You have to find them all, so you can't choose between those strategies, you must do both)
The game gives you absolutely no clues to help you find any of them whatsoever, so the whole thing becomes a very tedious and completely blind goose chase across the entire game world. It's the most boring and obtuse side mission in the game. (Which sucks because out of all the games side content, it's the most important to the main story due to the context it adds.)
I wasn't originally going to watch this, as I haven't played nor watched Chronicles, but then I clicked on a timestamp in one of the comments and I just... couldn't stop watching. Your commentary is just _that_ fun to listen to. Welp, time to rewind to the start!
I was too young to know what a bad game was when this came out, and it had probably my favorite story beat out of all the sonic games. I love the game to this day although I am willing to admit its a pretty terrible game from an rpg standpoint. This game DID, however have to have a lot of work thrown out/ done at the lasy minute because of development issues. Apparently a lot of the game was made a different way, but it was lost at the last minute, then crunched. For instance all the music in the game was fully composed and made up of classic remixes but it got scrapped at the last minute because of issues, so they had to rush the soundtrack we got out.
5:02 ngl this theme kinda slaps
There's something about this game I genuinely love, I love seeing people hate it and I just can't explain it.
I've honestly played it 5 times through, seen about everything there is to see and I still go back to it once every few years
That's Chronicles for ya. You either love it to the point of replaying it or hate it so much that you don't even finish it once (looking at you, J).
I actually love this game. Mainly because it's an RPG and it has Sonic and his friends in it. I do see the obvious flaws in the game, but I don't seem to mind them that much. It just makes the game even more interesting for me. I do agree that the way you combat things need to be changed, as in, it's better to use buttons instead of the touch screen. I did kinda want Forces to not be a canon platformer, but a sequel to this game, since it ties in with destruction of Metropolis very well. Overall, this game does have wasted potential, but I still enjoy it for what it is: a hot mess.
I remembered back when this game came out someone on a game forum claimed that you'll get an alternate ending if you collect every Ring and Chao Egg and then beat the game. I was never able to find every Ring in my second playthrough. However, years later it turns that was all a lie and no one never mentions this alternate ending for collecting everything from their playtime.
Tbh they should try a Sonic RPG again, but under a different studio
Maybe a JRPG.
They have Atlas on speed dial, they can easily ask them to make a Sonic rpg
@@ZeothTheHedgehog Facts with their experience with Persona and Shin Megami Tensei a Sonic JRPG is just a quick call since SEGA owns the company now. I don't care if they have to risk Ken Penders having a fit about Shade I just want Sonic JRPGs and Shade the Echidna to have a another chance in the spot light.
It's sad how this game came out because this game came from the studio who made mass effect 2 and the best star wars game of all time: knights of the old republic.
Small correction:
it's not just Cream who fails the support moves if you miss even once, there are other characters that have at least ONE support move, and they ALSO fail instantly if you mess up even ONE button. Cream is just the elephant in the room because every single PP move she has is support.
I know this because I remember getting real angry when I was playing the game, and I was testing out one of Tails' support moves to see what it did, and I missed one button half-way through the animation and it failed. I actually raged when that happened.
If I remember correctly, Amy brings up Emerl when the heroes meet an echidna named Nestor the Wise.
This game alongside Secret Rings & Black Knight are my biggest guilty pleasures. Also there is a reference to Emerl in the Kron Location. It’s a part of an odd side quest with an exiled echidna named Nestor.
There is no reason for this game to be a guilty pleasure seeing how it is a decent, even above average, DS game. The hate comes mainly from the expectations that come with Sonic fandom and Bioware's reputation for creating solid and complex RPGs (this game is certainly not complex).
@Charley Barley
What kind of DS games have you been playing, buddy? Are you sure you're not holding the console upside down? The DS had Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and the Mario&Luigi RPGs, and that's just what Nintendo's flagships were doing in their RPG off time. Chronicles is objectively terrible, both by comparison to other games of its time and as a stand-alone.
@@rainpooper7088 This is an embarrassingly stupid post. I never claimed the game is top notch (read again, slowly) or on any level like the games you listed. News flash: a game doesn't have to be among the best to be enjoyed. Log off, have a smoke, and calm down. What you're doing is just gatekeeping, juvenile horseshi+.
You also appear to be confusing your own experience with objectivity. The game received above average scores overall when it was released, "bud." And again, it is no Dragon Quest V, and it isn't great by any means (definitely flawed), but my saying that it is decent or just enjoyable should not result in you shitting your denims.
Unless you're 12 years old, this post of yours should embarrass you. K, "buddy"?
Theirs's this UA-camr named Justin113D, who was working on a reimagined of Sonic Chronicles. Sadly he hasn't updated in a while, so he either has trouble getting it going or he just gave up? The concept sounded pretty neat.
Paragraph about battles incoming... Late game, shadow, knuckles and shade become really OP because they all have moves that ignore armor and or can't miss, which breaks the monotony of enemies having too much armor to be hit/ dodging stuff. Shadow has chaos sphere, knuckles has uppercut, shade and knuckles have a POW move that ignores armor, AND cannot miss iirc. Its super OP. Sonic and shadow have some really stupid POW moves too. Rings are not teeeeeechnically finite, but the shop system is definitely broken because the only way to get rings otherwise is to sell the items you get from battles. ANOTHER fun fact is that the stats make ZERO sense. Speed ONLY affects turn order, nothing else. The number of times you get to attack is actually predetermined by your character, so speed doesn't even affect that. Attack is in fact NOT damage (which is a second hidden stat), but it is hit chance. not sure what the math is but your attack is weighed against your opponents defense somehow to determine if you hit them or not, if you don't win that stat check, you just miss. Defense is your chance to dodge an attack. So defense/ attack are hit chance, attack only affects your damage when you use POW moves that scale with attack. Your normal attacks, however, do not iirc. Luck involves crit/ your chance to find items after a fight. Its not a very useful stat on its own tbh. Your damage given/ taken is actually modified by equipment more than anything else. They increase your "armor" which is (for some reason) a hidden stat that works the way you would THINK defense would work. It reduces your damage taken. Other ones increase your "damage" which actually makes your attacks do more dmg, I don't know if it scales POW moves or not but I assume so.
In all honesty, I didn’t notice the difference in the footage until you pointed it out

The funny part is
This was my team for the endgame
It has almost everything except for climb
But thats so rare anyways
I bought this day one, I was so excited to play Sonic RPG and I remember being so disappointed, I got stuck on a boss that was in top of an ice pyramid thing, sad.
Duse the eyes on the models remind of the Ken Penders comic art
I wanted that silver and blaze were present in this game
There’s an echidna on the 1st planet that mentions emeral but you have to do a pretty long sidequest before u can even hear that
There is actually a team who have been making a reimagining of this game for several years now.
Is it bad that I un ironically love this game’s battle system
Other than the evading that can go die in a ditch full of gizoids
Or attacks missing I hate that
bro finally Dylan, this was the moment i was waiting for. i dont care if its good or bad, i just wanted to see your review on it
Dylan here are some of my top 3 ideas for the next video: Sonic the fighters, Super Mario Z or Nazo Unleashed DX and other sonic fan made movies or series, and my least preferred: Shadow in Sonic Frontiers Mod.
Okay, so the reason behind the crash is that the american rom released into the internet has a bug or the actual american release doesn't really work, im not sure onto which
If you download the european rom, the game won't crash and it'll work properly, i took a lot of time to find the info about it and i tested it myself, it does work, the english rom also crashed when i played it
When you're on the Kron planet, after defeating your first Gizoid, one of the characters (I think it's Sonic) says it looked like Emerl, only for Shade to say Gizoids were made by the Nocturnus. There's your Emerl reference. 👍
I don't have (or even want) this game, but at least I've got SRB2P for my Sonic RPG fix. Even if the image of Sonic characters using Evokers is somewhat cursed.
10:25 In a real fight, if you can dodge every attack thrown that's good, you live, In a movie or tv series an enemy doing that is a sign that the hero wasn't really to face them yet. in a video game either your not ready or if the first areas enemies are doing that it's a sign that you need to get a refund.
I remember playing this and having so much fun
Part of the reason there isn’t to follow up to this story is because of Ken Pender being petty and I wish that he would play nice with Sega so that he could have his creative credits and they could have use of his work
Wheres the Sonic Advance 3 Review man? Ive been waiting for so loong!
Emerl was mentioned. If you do a side mission for Nestor the Wise on the Kron world (giving him specific items by defeating enemies), he mentions how he used to know a specific Gizoid, even referring to it as a friend. And he says that he wasn't sucked into the Twilight Cage like the rest of the Nocturnus Clan.
Sonic wonders if he means Emerl which tracks as Emerl was the only Gizoid on Earth (and was even said to be one of the Nocturnus' finest creations, which supports just how powerful Emerl was presented in Battle, both in story and in Gerald's Journals).
Still feel like we should’ve had a few more characters and a longer story.
He sounds like a good classic sonic voice actor
And modern sonic
My team mostly consisted of Sonic, Amy, Shadow, and Cream. Three faves and my designated healer.
Curse you Ken Penders
Actually, Amy DOES have a secret story involving her, and getting enough relationship points to romance her!
Man if I had a nickel for every time I saw a game with a cool concept but messed up execution I'd have way more then 2 nickel which isn't wierd its just sad. I will be honest though I really enjoyed the team attacks, seeing how different sonic charecters would work together to fight is really cool to me especially the ones that don't include sonic himself.
I used to want sonic and amy to be together officially and they could be in this game and that’s why I loved it as a kid lmao
I loved sonic chronicles when I played couple years back I liked because it felt like a novel more than a game you are not playing for the gameplay (even though I love rpg) you are playing for the story even the characters art is similar to x art and I liked the chapter art so much that is the only reason I finished it
"Hey the gizoids we where building up for 2 whole games as this mysterious big thing is here!"
"oh hey more echidnas from knuckles rival tribe I wonder what knuckles thinks!"
*sips slushy* Bioware HQ closes at 10, exit is over there
If only Bioware Credits Penders &/or Archie in the Copyright label or Special Thanks.
They don't need to, as Penders claims are utter BS.
They were inspired by his works in the comics, but they did not take anything from him and he was not the only writer... inspiration does not mandate credits...
Why didnt you turn on the upscaling after the tutorial? Or played enough on the old emu to get past it then load your save on a future one
Good question. I guess i figured that it would crash again at some point if i switched back to the newer emulator so I didn't want to bother.
27:34 Emerls brethren!
A fan needs to make a better version of sonic chronicles like p-06
Some people tried! Chronicles Reimagined was a project at some point. Don't think it got off the ground, though.
The project is still going!
@@Garrulous64 Ooh! That would be nice! (Despite its issues, I kinda genuinely love this game.)
I hope the sonic chronicles video is gonna be out soon
Nobody tell him!
Still waiting for that Sonic 2 Bonus Video
11:38
Someone's gonna misheard this as "The forgot to program the pee pee"
😔 Sadly, Sega and Sonic Team decided not to make new RPG games for Sonic the Hedgehog series anymore. 😔
Holy Shit! What a Fucking coincidence today I watched one of your videos that was about sonic mobile games and at the end you said Sonic Chronicles review is on February. Its been a year.
Sonic Chronicles and Shade the Echidna R.I.P. (sniff)
MAn, mods would honestly fix this game... and sadly there just aren't any mods atm that fix the shop or battle system or scarcity of rings
"S O N I C L E S"
You win.
I know its too late, but about the game ne crashing at the fmv tutorial, I've read that the North American dumps of the game are bad dumps
I tried a couple different versions and they all did it.
Weird enough omega model is the best model in this game
There's a chao that skips the POW moves. Ferox based af.
2:36 Hey, I think another UA-camr had the same exact problem
Oh I remember this game. The music used to give me a headache every time I played it (I'm not even joking by the way). One of the most awful and boring Sonic games. I genuinely think it would have been better if the box didn't come with the cartridge, just an apology from SEGA
Well, to be fair, this is the only game where sonic is frowning on the cover.
23:07 in this part l put shadow and cream with sonic and knuckles and amy amd rouge with tails and eggman
27:35 Actually they did with one echidna you talk about one suddenly disappeared and wondered he was ok I guess you didn’t talk to him huh
Where’s That Sonic carbon story idea you had going on 2 years back? Forgot about it?
Cancelled.
#Garrulous64 Aka Dylan, my buddy, here are some of my top 3 ideas for the next video: Sonic the fighters ( My humble Request: Can it feature RHS, Premydaremy, Sam Procrastinates, Daveace and Twip), Super Mario Z or Nazo Unleashed DX and other sonic fan made movies or series, and my least preferred: Shadow in Sonic Frontiers Mod.
Bro did the idea of filming the ds screen with a camera ever cross your mind
Yeah, but I wasn't making a 2009 let's play video so I didn't do that.
If it did then it shouldn't. It would look terrible, especially in such touchscreen-heavy game which would mean that fingers/stylus will obstruct the screen.
whos gonna tell him that he sounds like pghlfilms from 2018-2020
Good gameplay, good story, decent overworld music, good battle music, fuck penders
sonic chronicles feels like if Nintendo never made a Mario rpg but they released sticker star as usual in 2012 as the only Mario """""""""rpg"""""""""" and left it at that lmfao.
seriously though a sonic rpg that's good could rule, the Mario rpg's are the bomb and to combine those with sonic would make for the sickest stuff ever, hopefully one day Sega can dip their toes in sonic rpgs again.
unpopular opinion: this game is actually good and criminally underrated.
I mean, the only thing BAD on this game are the 3D graphics (in sprites could have be good) and the bad compression of music on DS, NOT the music by itself.
But the battles was good and difficult and was a REALLY GOOD story.
I miss Shade DAMN IT! Thanks Ken you ***hole she was such a good character for me at least would be nice if Ken didn’t Remove her from the Sonic character timeline she would been so good for Knuckles story.
What I would give for a good Sonic RPG style game
Sonic Chronicles isn't the best by far, but it's not quite the Sonic Heroes of the franchise either, so it's passable.
The music is forgettable though, and I don't replay it often.
I would rather play Sonic Heroes, replaying some team sonic and team rose levels can be fun.
I played Chronicles before and ignored the flaws due to my challenge-seeking mindset. Bioware is the wrong company to ask for a better Sonic RPG.
Yea, I think it's pretty clear that this game got screwed based on the expectations more than anything else (Sonic franchise and Bioware reputation). I think the most reasonable conclusion to reach is that this game is...fine. It's very simple and it has some glaring flaws (my goodness, that music is just awful), but overall, it is a decent and even above average game on the DS (relative to the library as a whole). Is it "torturous to play through"? Hyperbole, perhaps. That's probably a biiiiit much, unless you're talking about the music. Lmao.
I mean, if you just don't like touch controls (fair enough), then maybe this game just isn't for you?
Yeah, it’s just mediocre. I loved it as a kid because the only other RPG I played was Pokémon at the time and so it was how I got my RPG and Sonic fix in one.
I loved the lore dump.
I don’t understand how it’s a failure when it actually got good reviews from critics. It has a 74 on metricrtic and that is a perfect score for it in my opinion.
Can you not sell items to get more rings?
You can, in fact you have to. That was the only way I was able to get any substantial amount of rings.
