Here’s a tip for anyone who’s planning to play this game for the first time in the future: If you’re playing this on a variation of the 3ds xl, HOLD START OR SELECT WHEN THE GAME LOADS ONCE YOU’RE ON YOUR WAY TO THAT 7TH SPECIAL STAGE*. Trust me, you’ll hate it with the normal touch screen size.
How exactly does that help? My first time was on 3DS XL and I did all the special stages first try. I thought it controlled great even with the large screen
@Afrika Johnson “Sonic’s games after SA2 aren’t very good” Hmmm...... Sonic Heroes, Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic Advanced, Sonic Advanced 2, Sonic Advanced 3, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors, Sonic Colors DS, Sonic Generations, and even more spin-offs I haven’t mentioned.
Fun fact about the sonic rush ost: Hideki Naganuma uses samples from other forms of media to recreate the soundtrack for the game, much like jet set radio. A prime example of this is in the final boss of the game that's music is called "Wrapped in Black", the "too black, too strong" is completely ripped out of Malcolm X's grassroots movement speech.
This and Rush Adventure are some of my favorite DS games ever. Wonderful Soundtracks, endlessly fun levels and introduced a fan favorite female character. The Egg King is also perhaps one of the hardest bosses in the series. Though, I feel like they forced the friendship speech a bit too much.
I didn’t notice that the first time I watched this ( never played sonic rush) and then I started listening to the ost (it’s really good) and when I saw this i was like “I see what you did there”
I bought a used copy of sonic rush and when I booted it up it knew my name Either the previous owner had the same name or it's possessed either way it's lit
I'm currently replaying this game. I love trying to beat my own times in time trial. You can really use the physics to shave off time by finding skips and short cuts. Also, this is probably one of the best sound tracks in gaming. Blaze and her back story is so cool. A girl version of Sonic from another dimension, with fire instead of the "Wind" Sonic embodies. Shame '06 tried to ruin her. 5/5 game and one of my favorites. (Bosses suck though)
I'm not gonna lie, I loved this game, the music and the way it plays was dope. The story was a lil lackluster but it was good in my opinion, blaze was a completely cold and shut off character, believing she had to do everything on her own, until she met sonic, cream, and the others. Who begin to make her realize that she doesn't have to be alone in what she does, and she doesn't have to be DEAD serious all the time. In the end blaze finally realizes the truth about what it means to be a person and have friends and she relaxes, the song that plays after super sonic and burning blaze wins is super indicative of that "lifting me up", cuz it's what sonic and friends did for her. It truly shows how positive sonic and his friends are and points out a key part in Sonics personality, he may be a cocky, attitude having, fun loving character, but deep down he REALLY cares about others and wants to bring out the best in them. It's why They are where they are in the IDW comics, cuz eggman may be ass as a man, but sonic believed he could turn over a new leaf as mr tinker and let him try. Long story short, Sonic rush was good asf and I loved how it introduced a character that was not only sharpened by the other characters but in doing so it emphasized how good the other characters were to make such a thing possible in the 1st place.
Yeah I love this game. That music though. It's absolutely amazing and supposedly was made or based off of jet set radio which is epic. The 2 things I hate are the bottomless pits that this game spams and the trial and error. One to many times have I ran into spikes or off little platforms due to screen crunch. Granted this games screen crunch isn't that bad though. It' still was a great game for the ds and a great introduction to blaze
This game is my childhood I loved it Despite me getting stuck on the 2nd zone because water levels suck And the 7th special stage And the bosses I still love the game because the pros obliterated the cons
That jimmy timmy power reference genuinely made me laugh. Great video Garrulous! I like the boost a bit, but I prefer other momentum styled games. Doesn’t make it any worse, but I see Rush as a good example of Boost
When a 2005 DS game with text box cutscenes has more personality and better character development than the 2006 next gen game with high ambition, you done shat your pants!
I love seeing your style evolve, especially coupled with a video about one of my personal favorites. I'm looking forward to what you have in store for us next time.
You can't boost during a boss fight, but I found an alternative years ago. If you spin-dash, repeatedly pressing the button for max speed, release it, make a quick jump almost instantly (to get Sonic or Blaze back on their running animation), and press and hold left or right, you'll see Sonic/Blaze running really really fast. The sooner you jump the quicker you'll go.
This game is my favorite game of all time! The soundtrack being a banger, the story being alright, and of course that gameplay being really fun for a boost game, the adrenaline system (tricks) was Soo much style and being able to get a huge bunch of bars for doing the finishers as you land is great, the one thing that I find the most impressive with this game is the transition from the top or bottom, it is super smooth and often it is hard to notice it even happened because the eyes were natualy following the character.
Finally some1 gives a fresh review of this game. The only(sort of) recent review is johnny's and it's rare for me to see the game get the spotlight compared to the previous series
Also if anyone sees this, there's a smol strat to perform tricks faster in special stages. You can simply slide your stylus(or finger) to the next number, you don't need to tap the screen everytime.
BRUH I just decided a few weeks prior that i would be replaying Sonic Rush which i did and i got a flood of nostalgia and i agree not many people talk about the game that started the boost formula
Glad people still remember the Rush games. Seriously Sega was knocking it out of the park with handheld games. They rarely ever released a bad one. Yeah the bottomless pits in some games were annoying, but I liked the challenge.
This was my very first real video game. It also stands as not only my favorite sonic game but my absolute favorite video game of all time. I find myself listening to the soundtrack consistently, and being able to just blast through the levels with that bopping sound track is a goddamn delight. I replay this game consistently almost to a religious level. Now I see how nostalgia works.
It's great to see Sonic Rush getting some recognition these days by the younger gamers. I think the Sonic Rush trilogy are some of the best Sonic games to date, but are often ignored or skipped by many Sonic fans today. It's given us great 2D gameplay, along with Sonic Advance series, despite many saying the last great 2D games were on the Genesis. Anyways, great video!
Do you guys know how blaze does that homing attack in the Bossfight? Well I could swear on my goddamn life that I did it once in the middle of the game when I was playing through the 3rd stage on one of those battle rooms with blaze. It happened once and it never happened again. Please tell me that someone else has experience this.
Hi, Garrulous64. I remember playing the original Sonic Rush when I had my own Nintendo DS as a Christmas gift back in 2008. It was raining back on Christmas Day 2008 where I live.

My goodness, it took months for me to beat the game because of that 7th stage! I'm grateful this game introduced Blaze; she's my one of my favorite characters of all time.
Funny story for me for this one technically this is my first Sonic game and the songs were so catchy I heard them even when I turn 2DS off and it kind of frightened me when I was a kid
I remember coming back to play this game many years after playing it (it was my childhood) I also remember looking at the my times on about every level and thinking “How the hell did little kid me pull that off?”
Back when I still had Sonic Rush, there was this one part in Night Carnival where you can only pass it by performing so many stunts at just the right moment that I had trouble passing just that one stage because of it. Now I don't even know where I have the game
I noticed when you didn’t mention boosting in Boss fights, and I don’t know if someone else has already said it, But if you do a spin dash and jump into the air and hold the direction that you want to go when you hit the ground, you’ll full on BLAST across the ground
God I love Sonic Rush it's the general that made me a Sonic fan. I first got the game when I was 10 sometime in the year 2010. At that time my mom had bought my aunt (who is just 2 years older than me so she was more like my older sister than my aunt) and me 3 D's games they were zoo tycoon 2, a weird Ben 10 game, and Sonic Rush. Me and my aunt made a bet to see who would be the first one to play that Ben 10 game since we were both big fans of the show, I won that bet but that Sonic Rush caught my eye with this blue porcupine, at that time I had never heard of Sonic before so I was completely new to the franchise. I decide after a few minutes of playing the Ben 10 game that I would play Sonic Rush and I couldn't put the game down it was so fun. It took me forever to get the seventh chaos emerald the first time that I would best the game and get taunted for not having all the emeralds. I went through 2 ds when I finally got all the emeralds. One day I lent Sonic Rush to my cousin along with Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros, my then took my games and never gave them back, I was heart broken because he tool my favorite game at the time Sonic Rush along with those other games. Eventually I would buy another copy of all those games but the one that took me the longest to get was Sonic Rush but I finally got the game last week which I played and beat it the same day I got it. I was afraid that the game wouldn't hold up now that I'm older and more experienced with games but the game holds up well but I did notice that at least during the F zone boss that the game would drop frames hard during certain attacks making it hard to dodge those attacks but other than that the game is fantastic. Also my favorite music track in the game is the special stage song 'wrapped in black'.
Here’s a tip for anyone who’s planning to play this game for the first time in the future:

As someone with only an original 3DS, what does doing that do?
