Its actually called a Gurney Flap because Racing Legend Dan Gurney invented it. Sometimes people think Gurney Flaps and WickerBills are an interchangeable term, but thanks for clarifying it
I believe the term "wickerbill" was also the word describing the sound of the famed (and fastest) American railroad engineer, Casey Jones, sounding the engine whistle as he passed by town. People recognized him by his unique wickerbill. Dan apparently realized he would make quite a flap of his own - hence the name choice.
I added one to mine and it does look really really good and yes i can cut corners a lot faster, i really cant say it slows me down i guess id need to do a deeper dive maybe compara 100-140 run times.
Thanks bro.I just installed the stealth wicker bill, on my 2018 SS 1le and the Zl1 side skirts looks amazing. Send a shout out to the camaro family in bay area san Francisco California. My name is Alejandro Torres. Thank you I love your videos , keep it fresh!
Very nice video Matt. Also a lot of people, do not understand the shape of the 6th Gen. the wicker bill does look good . With that said, the top of the 6th Gen is designed to help the air to go over the car and then the spoiler like the ACS has that cutout is designed to allow that air to go over the spoiler without creating the turbulent area over the rear deck created by a wicker bill. Yep, a lot of downforce but if not done right can actually help lift the car because of the air flow loss at the rear. Hey. At least the Mustang was going straight this time. Must have been an Ecoboost
Just ordered one from ZL1 addons for my 1LE. Too bad I didn't have my car in Feb or I would have got the GM one to hang out with you and install it. That would have been awesome! I feel like it might be too much with the louvers though, we shall see.
At first, I wasn't a fan of it. I am in love with them now! Still a bit uneasy about the clear part in the middle, but as you said, it's all personal preference. You could paint your car pink with zebra stripes and I would still be jealous of your car😅 keep the vids coming!
LethalGarage not even! Your car is a beast! I know I say that every time I comment, but it's true lmao😂! I can't wait to hear it rev with the procharger! Looking forward to seeing it in person.
I’m installing a Z 28 style spoiler on gen 5 SS which is their pre-requisite for getting the one piece wicker bill which I want I was wondering does it really impede the view in your review mirror that much or should I go with the split wicker that has the middle is missing... Or has a clear piece across the center… I think the one pieces look better to me
Nice review. the majority of guys that drive don't give a s*** about road courses unfortunately and just like quarter miles and going straight :-( I believe for those folks wickerbill are no go. for those of us that truly like driving and doing things like turning they may add a little bit of downforce and a lot of bit of bling :-)
I haven't read all the replies so if it's been said already, I apologise. the "wicker bill" is original designed by American hero Dan Gurney. first put on a Indy Race car from the"60s. he designed it from the idea of the airplane wing. instead of giving lift, it's turned upside down to push down instead of lift. think of the wicker as the flaps..
Like them. I think it's a really cheap way to get the ass planted at high speed and look good and aggressive as the Camaro should. The Camaro should never look dainty, it should look like a punch in the face.
LOL you used my picture of the Anderson spoiler in the video, when do I get my royalty check ;) (j/K). 6LE Designs made a larger version of the blade spoiler and depending on your taste, you could make the same arguments that it just doesn't look 100% right. I have the GM blade and although I agree it is kind of on the conservative side, it looks proportioned right from every angle and you don't see it in the rear view. It could look just right with the GM wicker, I'm considering getting it and it would be cool to see someone do it in carbon maybe. You could also argue that the GM one is just cooler because there is real testing behind it if that means anything to you. I'm in OC Matt, maybe we can do it for a video.
Personally, I don't like the look of the wicker bill on the Camaro. On the Corvettes though, I think it looks amazing.Probably because of the differences in the trunk (or lack thereof). Vette looks better with the lip spoiler/wicker bill, Camaro looks better with a true wing. Now if only someone made a non-CF ZL1 1LE wing that doesn't cost 3 grand so i can slap one on my SS...
I know this isn't related to the video but I am having a hard time to find this info anywhere else. My camaro just got a small dent in the front bumper. I really do not know how to fix it and don't want to pay for a body shop. If anybody knows how to fix it can you let me know? I would really appreciate it, I'm kinda new to doing body work.
The bag, whats in the bag? Shamrock Shake? Happy Meal? Breakfast Biscuit? Sausage Muffin? Big Mac? THE GRAND MAC?.........MMMM The Legend. Only Bigger. www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/product/grand-mac.html How about some Micky Dee's coupon discount codes? Can you get a Wicker Bill with cheese?
LethalGarage I saw your video on the install and am thinking of purchasing a 1le next month along with the spoiler, and my question is, how high should the bottom of the spoiler be compared to the factory lip in order to avoid the problems you had?
For me, not a fan of wicker bills. Don’t like the look. But that’s just my opinion, not going to slam anyone who’s does like them unless you are racing at higher speeds don’t see much use for them
Came across the name "wickerbill" in a random video and thought it was something new and different. Come here and find out it's just a goofy name for the same spoiler OEMs and racers have been using since the '60s.
Actually, you're very WRONG. Wicker bills (and dovetails) create a pocket of stagnant air between the bill and the downturn of the roofline. This directs the airflow straight back (instead of down), with much less tumbling, higher up. It does NOT add downforce, it reduces lift, a key, but important distinction. Also, believe it or not it actually reduces overall drag coefficient in most cases.
So to bring a few things and notes to the conversation. A wicker Bill is design to bring downforce and in a lot of cases they work along side a blade spoiler and a wing. Spoilers: A spoiler is an automotive aerodynamic device whose intended design function is to 'spoil' unfavorable air movement across a body of a vehicle in motion. A spoiler has a significant effect on the lift or downforce of a vehicle and its aerodynamic drag. The spoiler setting adjusts the angle of a spoiler of fixed size, with the downforce and drag increasing with increasing angles. Wicker Height: The wicker or more accurately the wicker bill or Gurney flap is effectively a small spoiler attached to the trailing end of a wing or spoiler to improve performance. Wickers can be changed to tune the aero of a wing or spoiler, with larger wickers generally giving more downforce. Wicker Span: It's common for wickers to not run the entire length of the wing or spoiler. Obviously, as the span (or width) is reduced the effectiveness or downforce of the wicker will also be reduced, however the drag and turbulence created by the wicker is reduced. Because of the large impact of front end turbulence on the flow over the car and to the rear wing or spoiler, a smaller/narrower wicker does sometimes produce more overall downforce than a larger one.
Thank you for the clear explanation

"Dodge's and ford's behind you" extra savage today😂😂😂👍
I used to hate wickerbills but after seeing it on your Camaro I love it

Wow this video was mad clear dude !!! LIKE YOUR SETTINGS!

I cooked a Mach E mustang in my scat pack after just installing my wicker bill so I don’t think they slow you down. I felt more stable and aerodynamic

I’m planning to add the factory wicker bill to my Z/28.

I didn’t find it funny... lol yes I drive a Dodge . Good video though
for Street Racers like me that slows your car down ,Mickey Thompsons are all I need for traction but it looks cool though
Already have the front covered my friend. Also a lot more weight going into that engine bay in just a few weeks.
CHUCK GATOR most of them are bench racers and garage queens. They prob think Mickey Thompson is a country music singer and not a Tire
What is a "gunnery flap". I think he means "Gurney flap", named after the driver, Dan Gurney, who applied it to his race car.
Yes that’s what I was thinking, looked it up and you are correct
Love the wicker bills! Your install video has helped when installing mine!!
Just ordered one from ZL1 addons for my 1LE. Too bad I didn't have my car in Feb or I would have got the GM one to hang out with you and install it. That would have been awesome! I feel like it might be too much with the louvers though, we shall see.
The 1le spoiler is my favorite one on the 6 gen camaro
I love the wicker bil. I have one on my 6gen

He is the first documented person to do it.
its cool to add for looks but for a 455hp its not gonna do that much. for your car with mods though its probably great for the track 👍👍
Like them.

gotta love mc donalds see the bag on a lot of videos 😂

+Gabe Armijo a few of the other brands are testing their products as well.
I love wicker bills! I'm thinking of getting a custom one for the third gen just haven't thought of or seen something I want lol
+BZBEAST12 you got to design it ;)
Yup haha design then talk to someone if it will be functional and then make it.
+BZBEAST12 It's fairly easy to make a functional part, just how much drag is it creating.
Gotcha

corey blacksher gmpartsguy does
+corey blacksher There are a lot. But Phastek is one of the only sites to carry multiple brands
Could you give a few examples please

It’s slowing down my car like mf but it’s good for dig

+robman1286 I was never worried. Just hungry for my Bacon and Egg biscuits with no cheese ;)
very nice
check out the 2017 1LE spoiler. I think its just right
I like the 1le spoiler with a wicker bill even more. The blade is nice but with the wicker it is mean.
LethalGarage I saw your video on the install and am thinking of purchasing a 1le next month along with the spoiler, and my question is, how high should the bottom of the spoiler be compared to the factory lip in order to avoid the problems you had?
Imma add one to my Ecoboost Mustang

64th 128th degree?
I just don't get why they all have plexiglass in the middle now
He mentioned in the video its partly because it allows you to be able to see fully out of your rear view window.

Ok lets get something clear here, yes it wouldve been ok if u hit the mustang.
1 question would a Z28 spoiler fit on a 2011 SS
I am honestly not sure.
goat there's a few after market z28 spoilers for 2010 to 2015 5th gens.
Isn’t it gurney not gunery
so you can see the dodge's and fords behind you😂😂 just facts lol
did the name change?
+Keion Rajcoomar Lethal Garage
i thought it was LethalCamaro
Hate this trend. These things look hideous. 99.99% of people putting these spoilers on their cars don’t race...domestic owners getting ricey AF
