  • How the life story of a fictitious car, as told in 11 different models, by 11 collaborative builders, was featured in one of the best selling Scale Auto Enthusiast issues, and ended up in the International Model Car Builders' Museum for all to enjoy. At the GSL in May of 2023, we interviewed 5 of the 11 builders, members of the Town of Newburgh Model Car Club, on their Project Chevelle. Ron Weissinger, Rick Hanmore, Vince LoBosco, Don Betterton, and Mike Felix describe for us the creative and cooperative building process that illustrated Mike's story of character Art's car, from new stock car to a yard sale of parts. The other builders not present were Chuck Stark, Mike Callan, Ken Uhler, Ron Washburn, John Stachura, and Dick Schoonmaker.

    WOW! 32 years ago! Sure, doesn't seem that long ago. Thanks for a great video on this Project Chevelle that I had the pleasure of being part of this project. I still have a framed copy of the cover hanging on my wall and also a few of the original issues along with a copy of the Chevelle Report. But it looks like after 32 years my front license plate is going to fall off. LOL! Thanks again.

    This was a great build and story I have that issue and is one of my favorite reads even to this day. It also got me into story telling of my model build's here on You Tube. Diorama's and progressive build's. So much fun and memories. Thank you Ron, Rick, Vince, Don and Mike for being an inspirational group of modelers. Cheers JV

    I remember when these models debuted, and loved that issue of SAE. It inspired me to build a Trans Am with a primer painted front fender and donut wheel. I can’t believe it was that long ago. Thank you for sharing the story Doug!

    What trip down memory lane. Was a senior in high school when I received the issue in mail. Always thought the wrecked chevelle was the best and hardest build to create. Thanks for re-telling the story of the group effort it took to make it happen.

    Dang I forgot all about that!!! New twist on a group build,interesting!! Back then we had club builds ! Kinda like North coast automotive modelers when we did the monogram Green hornet when it was reissued in the early 2,000 s.! Thinking that was in Model Cars Magazine authored By Ken Andrus! That was great fun! Thanks for sharing this cool memory Doug!🫡🇺🇸

    Fine story that reflects Gary Schmidt's innovative ideas put to ink and his use of modelers ideas and projects to put a hobby into so many readers hands. Nice job from the Sept/Oct 1980 SAE issue.

    I've seen it quickly in videos of the museum but never heard the whole story. Thank you so much for bringing it to us that missed it the first time in the magazines. It's epic achievement that I think would be very difficult to duplicate with so many contributors. Would be a cool thing to be apart of any similar exercise!

    I've always wanted to see a resin or custom kit of a 66 Chevelle 300 Deluxe 4 door sedan. This stuff is incredible.

    • @mattmccain8492
      @mattmccain8492 5 місяців тому

      To build that: use the revell 66 Chevelle wagon, cut the roof off leaving the windshield and door posts intact, cut the rear wagon tail section off at the rear door lines. Use the rear quarters,trunk,taillight panel and rear bumper from the Lindberg 66 Chevelle . Use the roof and rear glass from the revell 65 Chevelle or the optional HT roof from the AMT 65 GTO . Splice together and you have a 66 4dr.
      I built a 67 4dr in similar fashion.

    I remember when that issue came out. I still have it, but it is seriously dog-eared from all the times I've read and reread that article. I always thought that the Art they were referring to in the article was Art Anderson. Either a joke to pick on him ( like some did with Mark Gustavson back then) or a small tribute to him.

    I would have taken it one more step. 1990, the car was sold for scrap and the car being loaded onto the crusher with a forklift. But then they wouldn’t be able to reverse it and restore it back to original condition.

    Hey Guys,
    As my mind best recalls I seen a similar build in a model mag and the car as a used up racer/ now farm hand, had a toilet for a driver seat.
    Do u or anybody know/ remember what that multi car build showroom to scrap pile was?
