- See why going to this show can increase your expertise in the hobby. Award winning builder, Greg Nichols, always encouraged fellow car modelers to attend an International Plastic Modelers' Society (IPMS) show, to expand their skills and recharge their creativity by seeing the scale model airplanes, ships, military, figures, Space and Science Fiction, alongside the automotive categories. Model Car Muse takes you to the October, 2021 IPMS - Hudson Valley Historical Miniatures Guild show in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Great coverage Doug! Much of what I have learned about weathering and figure painting has come from military modelers at IPMS shows and club meetings. Thanks for sharing!!
Might be my favorite video yet! A great look at our show and gives a good overview of what we're all about!
IPMS shows are fantastic learning tools for automotive builders. We can learn from all genres of modeling. Let's not forget model railroaders, they do amazing work which we all can learn from.
@Rick Zinck Exactly!! I truly believe there is something to be learned in both directions from ALL genres of modeling. Like the guy said, ..."still learning new things everyday."
Fantastic video! When I got back into modeling as an adult around 1990, it was the result of picking up a copy of Scale Auto Enthusiast at a book store. For many years I built cars exclusively and belonged to model car clubs. A friend at one convinced me to attend a local IPMS club. That really opened up my eyes and since then I build all types of kits. I've met many military modelers that are "terrified" of cars because of gloss finishes, and I always try to help them out 😀!
Diorama building is everything and limitless. Great craft and community.
Great video Doug, a lot of really cool builds on the tables by talented builders. Love the dioramas. Thanks!
"Here's to all that break the mold "!!!
I'm only a little more than an hour from Poughkeepsie, and never knew about this show.
I know now, and will be there in 2022!
Many Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to film and post. 👍👍🇦🇺
Really cool. I had no idea there was a show up there I’m in central Jersey just got back into hobby. Also returned back from ACME. Can’t get enough models. I’m so glad I returned to this great hobby. I’ve meet so many wonderful people can learning new ways to build. Some day I will have a model on one of those tables. Thanks for sharing 👍🤘
Thank you for the tour. Got a sub for your site. Incredible models. Learning as I watch.👍🇨🇦👍.
Great report on one of the best models shows on the East Coast. Had fun running that show just before the turn of the century!
That helmet diorama is amazing.
In the 1970's IPMS was the only game in NC model shows. So it did help advance my skills. They did not think much of automotive modelers back then....a lot has changed I think.
Hello to Billy K......known him for years!!!!! Thanks
Shepard Paine would of been blown away by those dioramas. Really incredible craftsmanship.
Mind boggling skills! Very cool. Thanks!
We just had an IPMS show last Saturday in Mesa, AZ, and it was fabulous. The non-car categories were amazing, as usual, with truly epic scratch building and relentless detailing. But the cars were out in force and were also incredible; so much so that a 427 Cobra won best in class, best automotive... and best in show. A car, at an IPMS show.
Love that Squad 51 build!!
thank you Doug awesome vid and nice seeing billy
Another amazing video Doug!
Great video Doug, Nice coverage of the HVHMG show...
wow crazy! most my life i only build car models mainly customs and lowriders but crazy to see such different types of models styles and details mind blowing
Gorgeous Big Rig builds too!!
This is a Great Video!!!! Love the interviews!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for another great video Doug.
Great video. Putting this show on the list of ones to visit. Outstanding models. And how very thoughtful to add the dedication to Greg Nichols at the end.
I wish they had a show like this in Central New York State...
Awesome video, it’s great seeing all the different modeling genres being worked on. I just got back to the car/truck hobby about a year ago.
Son in law got me a 1/25 scale die cast pre painted body easy first build kit. Was nice place to start back. Had been Back to model model railroading for about six years and during that time went to a couple MAMA club meets with my brother. The kit from my son in law got me jump started and now I’m loving it again at 73.
Love your channel, thanks for sharing
Great video! Just reading the headline I thought of the HVHMG show immediately, it is a great event and I need to get back there. As a car modeler who is into weathering, I have found military and railroad modelers a tremendous source of information and techniques that can carry over. Seeing a literal ton of great models from multiple genres at one event is a priceless combination.
I believe Ive been to this show and have entered models the dioromas are fantastic and model kits for sale are somethings not generaly seen also figures to be built from resin its been a few years since ive been there but when you are there its a constantly moveing dream that you cannt stop looking at.
Lots of cool models in the show. I just joined the IPMS in Canada. Hope to go to some shows and learn more about modeling. Thanks again for sharing!
All subject contests and displays are great. I have learned a lot from the non-car builders and I try to get them over their fear of shiny paint!!
Thanks for sharing another great video! Nice to see Vince Lobosco, 'cause I'm a great fan of their models...
I love the hobby too.. I learn something's ng from every build I do!!
Definitely agree with you on this, there is much to learn from the IPMS events, certainly details we can incorporate into our models. These guys are incredibly talented......
They sure are!
I really enjoy these videos. Thanks
Nice video Doug!
very cool video sir some sweet builds
Great video
This is a great show. But AMPS shows are better for learning because of the judging system. Great show I've been there several times. Great people run this. I count many of them my friends. Saw some of them in this video
I really wish that IMPS shows judged the same way that AMPS does. Its much better.
Soldiers "FISHING" with grenades, would make a very great diorama, Crocodile Dundee style
A VARY BIG "WOW" !!! @ ... .. . GGGGGGGRRR88T SHOW !!! ... .. .
As a Navy vet I’m always more interested in ship models. At 7:57 the coverage of USS Ticonderoga (CG-47) shows a lot of attention to detail but I was disappointed that more care was not taken with the stern name. A decal or dry transfer would’ve been a good choice. If the ship actually had lettering like the model shows, I apologize.
👍
You should go to norestcon April 29
That sounds like it will be a good show

Does this show/contest come to indianapolis?
This show is put on by an IPMS chapter club. You can find IPMS chapters near your area on the IPMS website here: ipmsusa.org/. One of them, IPMS/RoscoTurner, in Indianapolis, holds a large annual show. Here's their link: www.ipmsroscoeturner.org/
Are there any modeling clubs in Houston Tx?
Hi Thad, I don't have any personal knowledge of clubs in Texas but here's one I found on a quick Google search: Houston Automotive Modeler's Society. Their website has a list of other area clubs as well. www.ipms-hams.org/
