God he was brilliant how he spoke to the camera was geniuss makes you feel like he really is talking to you at home and when he generally smiles makes it even funnier great upload :-)
D. Martin with the exception of Bob Hope, who was born in England, the others are Americans, with a different sense of humour so I am not sure your comment holds up. Besides, none of them spoke to camera to the degree and intimacy of FH. I have never found Red Skelton to be funny I am afraid.
I think that all the Cast were friends and Lercio Played by Frankie Howerd were all Friends including the Women who is after him and they all had fun in Making of this Serious
Still funny after all these years. RIP Frankie comedy genius & pioneer.
Oh titter yee not !
I remember watching this when I was about 14 it’s hilarious still 👏👏

Jay Nuttall I think frankie howerd was the first one to do that on tv, it was a revolutionary thing at the time to 'break the fourth wall'
@@danw1374 - There were many that did it. Bob Hope, the Marx Brothers, Red Skelton...

I think Frankie was trying to do a professional job, but the audience and other actors kept ruining it.

So much double entendre goes on in this hilarious comedy with our naughty Frankie Howard (I've probably spelt his name wrong). Love him 🤣
Excellent...in the classic television era.
How he broke that fourth wall. It was brilliant. If only Frankie was around today, TV might be worth watching.
the 80's comedies like Blackadder liked to think of themselves as very different to what had gone before, but they owe a debt to this.
The and lib wit of the brilliant Frankie howerd bless him and the rest of the cast total hilarious guaranteed to make anyone titter
Funny show! I always thought that a comedy about Roman soldiers based on the Limes and later Hadrian's Wall would be pretty good!
I forgot how brilliantly funny this was! 😂

6:06 .........is that Mary Beard making a grand entrance? ..she is always in these Roman documentaries.
I think Sena the Soup sayer is in love with Lercio and will do anything and everything to get him
Senna the Soothsayer and Lurcio.
ENSA - Every Night Something Awful

Watching this in 2024 makes me realise how dull, boring, serious and humorless the world is now!
Frankie had a very penetrating...mind. Ohh, stop it.
