Leveling is SUPER FAST Right Now!

- A lot of people wanted to see me do another leveling run with the 50% XP Buff, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and complete one on the 10.1.5 PTR. This means I was able to finish a run while testing both the 50% buff and the upcoming Chromie Time changes, and unsurprisingly, this run ended up being extremely fast. Over the next few weeks I'll be doing additional testing runs, including an Alliance Shadow Priest run this Friday, an a livestreamed 10-60 run on Saturday where viewers will decide the class/spec via a poll.

They should make a 10-60 storyline that takes you through the history of wow and through all the expansions in order.
Yeah, the way a new player cannot connect to the total story of WoW like one can with FF14, it is WoW's biggest weakness
that would be awesome but every expansion would let u hit 60 with ease, so they would need to lower quest exp wich would probably lead to some shit storm
@@luqqs3047 I'm assuming the intent of the comment is that they should add a specialized "greatest hits" type of option that lets you follow a linear path through some of the major story beats throughout every expansion.

It's a big reason why I feel like whatever is after Dragonflight needs to be both a world revamp and a soft reboot of sorts. Some folks may laugh at the idea, but among the types of folks that get hooked in mainly via a story, WoW is absolutely abysmal at new player retention.
From my understanding, the current leveling rate generally has players LEAVING BfA at what would have been the middle of the expansion when it was current content. Multiple story hooks get dropped and the player is essentially jettisoned about six years into the future. Not only that, but the opposing faction they were AT WAR WITH AND KILLING NOT EVEN A LEVEL AGO is now at peace with us and forming a joint task force to explore the Dragon Isles.
Try to imagine being a brand new player to WoW in 2023. Do you have any idea just how jarring that sort of thing actually is? I'm a guide in Newcomer Chat. I've actually seen players disappointed that the story they were enjoying is suddenly getting pushed aside at level 60 to make way for Dragonflight.
And while Chromie Time was a decent idea on paper, I'm at least hoping the change just says "screw it" and has 10-60 scaling active at all times without some arbitrary need to speak to Cromie to pick an expansion. The point of an RPG with a large open world is to explore it, and unless the game very strictly and obviously tries to railroad someone into BfA, it becomes disgustingly easy to actually walk away from the BfA intro quests without realizing it.
Once again: these are BRAND NEW PLAYERS!
These players get into their faction capital at level 10, get excited to explore, and then will spend the next few hours leveling up to 25 outside of BfA content before they figure out something is wrong. I will then see someone in Newcomer Chat suddenly get very confused as to why they've stopped gaining XP at level 25 in some random zone out in the ass end of either Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms since level scaling outside of BfA will cap off at rough equivalents of what the old level cap for that given expansion became post Shadowlands level squish. Doesn't help that half the current guides in Newcomer Chat are a bunch of blithering idiots that are just there to feel special, so they'll spout off nonsense about needing to talk to Chromie (which you can't do as a new player without a level 60 character, at least prior to the upcoming patch), or needing to buy the game and a sub so they'll no longer be a trial account (which if it WAS a trial, they wouldn't be able to speak in Newcomer Chat in the first place)
Bad advice from clueless guides is another thing that tends to chase off new players.
TLDR: Chromie Time change is decent, but half assed IMO if they don't just have baseline 10-60 scaling without a need to talk to Chromie. Past DF, the game really needs an overhaul and revamp in general.

I know these are a big commitment and take a lot of your time but im always excited to see a leveling/speed run long vid. Now i got something to watch while i level some alts!
Generally the chill runs aren't a huge time commitment persay, the WR attempts require a bit more setup since I need to hunt down specific pieces of gear to equip while leveling. If anything runs like these are just physically exhausting since I try to talk throughout the whole thing.

right out the gate i love that chromie change. i think its great that new players will not be forced through BFA and be able to choose. not just new but returning players that might be nostalgic for a particular Xpac. very welcomed change.

3:06:18 Zandalari Trolls allied race can also be druids. :) My favorite class. They have the movement speed buff which is neat for levelling. Dinosaur forms rawr
Yea, my comment was specifically saying it's the only Alliance race that can be druids.
Nightborn/zandalari are my favorite on the horde. They have the best frames. Vulpera are a close second.
power scaling falling off as you level makes it harder to kill things, but the XP is higher, so it probably balances. I remember vanilla WoW being pretty fast for the first about 20 levels and then it slowed down and 40-60 felt like it took ages. That was also back when we had no knowledge of the game really, so we were still learning where everything was. But also so many quests that sent you across the world and back multiple times.
Eh, historically you're correct, but currently the tuning is def whack. Just watch the tail end of the run and you'll see how absurdly fast the last ~15 levels are. Mobs also aren't that much harder to kill compared to the mid-levels.
Lol wow, so i watched your 10-60 guide and followed along the written guide, and i just got to where you are at @2:50:16 and i am only level 35. I assume it is because i dont have the potion of exp, no darkmoone faire hat, or the exp bonuses that you have, just heirloom, and i did as the guide said, but then the next part is 45. I am 10 levels below, so i think i gotta do dungeons till 45 to then go back to guide.
5:25 I'm not entirely sure but I think that, for classes that cannot dual-wield on all specs, you won't be able do dual-wield while in the "no spec" state. Probably only rogues and demon-hunters can dual-wield while non-spec because they're meant to play like that on levels before you can acquire a spec anyway.
With the new buff, is it better to avoid dungeons? Or would you recommend queuing as you move through the leveling zones? Apologize if you mentioned, haven’t finished the video yet
The buff is a flat 50% additional experience, it affects everything. Therefore nothing has changed.
New players here , are monks good for highe levels ? Like for damage. Really hesitant with going monk or mage
As much as I love playing Windwalker, the reality is that they've historically not been the best endgame damage dealers in raids. Mages, on the other hand, are usually either above average or super overpowered.

Is there some kind of addon that has a step tracker of what you need to do and what comes next, like a page turning addon with previous and forward? I see a lot of text guides but they can be difficult on the eyes
Not at the moment, at least not for my route. I am in the process of developing one, but I have no ETA on when that will be finished.
wow-pro addon. rested xp guides is kinda bad rippoff of it. wow-pro was around 20 yrs ago in vanilla. back in the day streamers and the like were getting suspended using it. But that changed many many expansions ago. It's now fine to use and blizzard won't suspend anyone for using it.

I've tried the most popular UIs out there and I uninstalled them because in the end I like the original better (removing the art from it just like you do). Never held me back either.

The fact that you can level that fast in retail is absurd. Takes the enjoyment of leveling and throws it out the window.
How is my ability to level fast affecting your enjoyment whatsoever? I'll never understand this argument, especially now that Classic exists. If you want to take your time and level through zones you enjoy, go and do that. If you hate retail leveling entirely, go play Classic. I speedlevel because I've played through every zone in the game multiple times, so this IS how I enjoy leveling.
