If you need a but more connection to your character, and adventure(s) to really get to feel like you character exists in the world: I STRONGLY suggest Chromie Time -> Cataclysm -> and doing any Easter Kingdoms/Kalimdor quests from the job board. It may not be the fastest method, but each zone is its own small story line that usually wraps up nicely. Most other locations leave their stories open ended, due to finishing within content you probably wont touch until after you catch up on Dragonflight. After purging a cursed forest, stopping a conspiracy against the king, winning a small conflict for your faction, and ending a demonic/eldritch plot; you will be fully worthy of the title "Hero", and will make more logical sense why important character rely on you. Said scenic rout also has some snazzy cosmetic gear in it for you too.
i think my main problem with how leveling is done is its just a mess because theres no logical path like westfall-redridge-duskwood etc ytou can do westfall-borean tundra-hen like uldum it breaks flow that used to exist and even though I'm not new it feels kinda weird
@@NonsensicalSpudz on the plus side, you get to skip the expansions that suck to level through, i don’t mind outland, but i know alot of people that actively dislike it’s dated quest design.
Honestly they need to add a short of quick questline, maybe somewhere in the 50's, where Chromie takes you on a journey thought the major events in each time period. Frame it as things you will do/have done/could do to build then sense of connection to the world while also getting you up to date with the events so they don't need to shoehorn in refences for new players. Also works as a way to gear the player for The Dragon Isle, maybe add some more advanced mechanics in there too so the player learns how to deal with them for when they get to 70.
For those that want a story experience, use this method to turn on Chromie time and play the story of Mists of Pandaria. It’s a solid self contained story, and while it’s old story, it’s still relevant. Others have suggested staying in Cataclysm and playing zones that the mission command board suggests. This is also a good option, as most of those zones have self contained small story arcs.
I actually just did this recently to level a new character, you can do about 80% of the entire map before you get forced out of Chromie Time. It's not ideal, but it's significantly better than it was when they forced you into Shadowlands 10 levels earlier.
I am not a new player but I had no idea the dungeon bags acted that way. Thanks for that info. Also thumbs up for taking the hit for another account just for science. EDIT* You now get mount and flying training at levels 10,20,30 and 40 for free.
personal tip from me. If you like the idea of any kinda RP at all, even if you dont participate. I'd HIGHLY reccommend a RP server. People are alot more chill, and the actual rp'ers actually make stormwind feel properly alive, theres always random events going on that you can just end up watching for fun, people are kind and its all round great! i never really RP since its not my thing, but man after almost 20 years playing i wish i new how nice rp servers where earlier
although, just to add. From my experience, RP servers heavily favour alliance since people wanna RP in a city like stormwind rather than org, so keep that in mind. I mean, theres still tons of people playing horde, since there are far less rp servers but still a thing to know. Normally per region there should be 1 or 2 rp servers. Just go with the biggest, but know that a very few amount of times it will be "full" generaly only during expac launches, but its nowhere near as bad as the proper full pvp servers.
i feel like one of the best things they could do to make it so gear doesn't fall behind is give those salvaged cache of goods from quests. it would fix the issue of not getting enough items from quests and would give a neat class themed transmog at the end of leveling
Honestly adding one of those to any quest that gives a one-and-done reward, like minipets or toys, would be amazing. I had to delete so damn many toys while leveling thru Pandaria from 11 to 35. I'm not even done with Valley of the Four Winds, I know I have a ton more toys coming up.
Never played wow and came here from asmons video on the video about new players you did and i have to say, though it might be weird that I enjoy this whilst i know nearly nothing going on (i do have lots of experience playing games though) I honestly love to watch content like this sometimes. It just scratches that itch and shows hope for the future of games and my dreams. Thank you for the awesome video and for investing as much as you have into all your videos, it has truly helped me a lot today. Have a good one!
If you do start playing you should definitely do what he's saying and level at least one character through the old zones. They were infinitely more fun than some of the newer stuff. Go out and explore the areas too.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I left wow for a few years during BoA and when I returned I thought it was just me. I couldn't figure out why I had s much trouble killing mobs the higher I got. Finally figured the level scaling was screwed but nice to hear someone else say it. Recent patches, Timewalking dungeon loot and the AH help from 60-70 but lower levelling even with heirlooms, is a pain.
I really appreciate your video here. I also appriciate both your attitude and your actions. You take action where others merely run their mouths. Obviously this sort of behavior has been a problem in the world for some time since James mentions it in the Bible, "Show me your faith without your works and I'll show you my faith BY my works." Your experience and taking action became most visible when you got to the comments people left you. Many either were responding to only a portion of your video or they simply used this opportunity to point out how amazing and intelligent they were by attempting to point out how little you had to offer in your video. Finally, your calmly and respectfully addressing these people, who advance by limiting others or outright running them down, was both impressive and encouraging. It made me think, "Perhaps there remain a number of people in the WoW melieu who are worth getting to know - and that was, to me the reason I began playing the game back when it was in beta.
Thanks for this. Didnt look through the comments to see if there were any others like myself but this did help me. Just downloaded Retail for the first time yesterday and was immediately overwhelmed by what I should do, what would be a waste of time, and where to go. Your video game me a sense of direction, thanks again. You earned a sub, keep up the good work!
I already wrote it down in your other vid. To get new players, they should make a complete new zone from level 1 to 60 with new quests and stories, that both is completed at the end and also introduces you to the current expansion. This could happen in the last 5 levels and can be changed with every comming addon. As it is now its reading a book series of 10 books and stop at 75% of book one and start the sequel set 20 years later.
They should just retrofit the vanilla world in timewalking, without any scaling. That continues to be the best new player experience in the game even 17 years later.
I like the idea (i'm not a new player, just more an in and out one who recently dived in head first through the pain myself), As honestly, it feels like what the tutorial area *should* be like, especially if Blizzard wants to keep wearing illidan's blindfold and not paying any attention to the previous expansions and the experience of getting to the most recent expansion.
I appreciated this as someone who really wants to like retail and experience Dragonflight content. I've never been to end game in retail because the majority of my time and enjoyment has been spent in Classic for the last year. But with the downtime in between phases, I'm seeing and hearing people enjoy DF a lot. It just feels so bad to level, and learning the class is a bit daunting when they throw so much at us without much explaining. Using my experience with Classic only goes so far since the games are so different. Regardless, I just wanted to say thank you for putting this out there and helping people like me. 💜
For pro players after level 35 go to normal time do as many quests as you can it does not matter what zone you do them in but do as many as you can till your quest log is full go to chromie set it to the appropriate timeline then turn them in to the quest giver for full exp and gear at your level. You can get up to 8 levels every time you do this trick also remember to do it with war mode on and if possible, with the dark moon faire exp buff. It will take about 1 1/2 hours every time you do it depending on how fast you can do the quests. Basically you 1 shot all mobs no matter what gear you have and get a ton of good gear when you hit 60 you should be able to have enough gear to get into time walking then do time walking till 70 and buy the time walking gear from the vender to get 5 pieces of gear if you actually need it.
As it goes for a quick weapon, if I remember right the WoD intro event tosses you a weapon after 3-4 really fast quests during which I think you only have to kill one mob
This is super helpful for me as a returning player that last played pqre-cata. The new leveling experience hasn't been too terrible but it hasn't been too great either. Probably going to try this out.
I'm a new player and I followed your method after leveling a character the way blizzard told me to, the experience was much better. thank you. I'm actually enjoying the game a lot. It's confusing and the systems are overwhelming but I think I'm getting it..
Excellent advice on opening up Chromie time for new players. Kudos to you for the tips on being optimal whilst leveling too, although personally I feel you level so quickly that scaling isnt so much of an issue that it requires the extra effort you recommend. The time lost from sorting out the satchels, going back and forth with Chromie Time and/or doing the Arena quests for weapons is too great and could've been spent getting 3/4+ more levels. However I've been playing the game for a long time and have a biased view. Will share this video to my friends who are thinking about playing for the first time. Cheers! Edit: Your replies to other people at the end of the video is completely justified. You are correct that the the way leveling works atm is just dumb. Blizzard should fix it (and adjust gear so that 50-60 is less of a grind).
Im totally new wow, started SoD and having a blast. My plan rn is to level on era to 60 then do BC -Wotlk on WoTLK classic. Then transition to cataclysm as it comes out. Either way im having a blast c;
Seems like it is worth mentioning that Outland and Wod chromie time and dungs are fairly populated by twinks, so requeuing when you catch a group with one makes things fast. Helping gearing while levelling, getting to Hyjal for the vendor helps IN Chromie time. it shows level 35, but scales when you buy them... unless Blizz fixed that.
Man I hate getting those parties. I like to get a feel for my class/specialization while leveling though dungeons. Getting a group with someone who is running through without stopping, literally blowing on the enemies and having them fall over like dominos is no fun.
The thing i have noticed is this: If you select "Burning Crusade" as your Random Dungeon choice, bosses have around only half the health of Classic dungeons. In most cases, BC dungeons are the faster options the higher your level is (assuming you are DPS, though even tank deals good damage), since the HP Scaling is insane as you progress through levels. The slowest dungeons in BC are Caverns of Time 1 and 2 which realistically can appear, but they are quite unlikely. But there have been many bugs with quite a lot of dungeons at least with the recent Addons which havnt been fixed, such as wrongly scaling damaging abilities of bosses and generally weird glitchy stuff with Mob/Boss mechanic that regard Health in any shape or form. Anyways!
@@tedestrial9627 Yeah, I am definitely not a creator and I can absolutely admire and understand the amount of work that must go into it. I just think it would be easier to not post comments at all if he's not going to read them fully, there are quite a few opportunities to catch a mistake like this. I only even care because he seemed a bit frustrated at the commenter while not even understanding what they were saying.
My contribution to this topic is: enjoy leveling up. Take your time. One thing I really hate about peoples' perception of mmorpg's these days is that "the end-game is all that matters". It has turned leveling up into a race to get to the end. The sad thing is that the game is less fun at the end. This is why so many people have quit over the years. Hardcore mode though? It embraces everything from 1-60 and turns the knobs up to high. THAT is fun gameplay.
Bliz did have a really good solution to players having outrun their gear in Pandaria -- Adventurer Gear Vendors. NPCs who sold 'greens' with the appropriate level to where you were at. All Bliz has to do is sprinkle these around, or at least in the capitol cities, with gear of the 'use: generate a piece of gear appropriate to your specialization and level' type.
I didn't know the bags gave you gear *at* the level it was opened. I don't know about Cata, TBC, or MOP, but with the WotLK dungeon finder it says searching is taking a while and asks if you wanna search beyond your timeline. So what I've been doing is getting the start of SL, go back to the main city after getting the portals, then changing time to WotLK and sticking with dungeons and questing. It helps a bit, and I find it fun. Thanks for the video, I'll keep it in mind when I level my next alt in a search to find a main lol
Damn good guide! I am playing this cursed game on and off for... like 20 years soon. Your guide will come in handy, when I find time to play dragonflight.
A few things this video doesn't mention: - WoD is the fastest expansion to level in (as of now) - The intro quests to each expansion are always faster than completing the entire campaign in any other expansion - There is no reason to buy epic flying, as it will be free in 10.1.5 (next patch), and you will get dragonriding in the dragon isles - Rather than flying, spend your money on gear upgrades once you hit 60 as dragonflight greens will become available - Don't forget to quest while you queue for dungeons, I found some quest upgrades are higher ilvl than BoAs even though most aren't
the best tactic is to queue random dungeons all the time until you completed the best dungeons that have quests inside and then switch the expansion with chromies help and then continue queuing and doing dungeon quests. also its recommended while you wait for dungeon invite to do the introduction quests from that expansion because they offer the best XP and is quickly done.
You should see the stats on the random cache you get from winning RBGs. I once got a trinket at level 14 that boosted not only my primary stat, but also versatility, crit, haste and mastery. Seriously, those PvP caches pack some heat.
Everyone suggests Cataclysm, but imo the best storyline for questing is either Warlords of Draenor or Legion. Legion has an epic story that introduces a lot of major players and really gets you to connect with your character class. Warlords is a nice story that gives you a lot of the background of the world. My personal favorite is Legion. If you're interested about the story, what they give you during the questing will get you asking some questions that open rabbit holes to interesting lore tidbits outside of the game.
Thank you! I'm a new player (on and off played for last 2 weeks) and this helps me a ton. I'm enjoying following the quest guide but it's slowly getting pretty grindy that it feels like it keeps forcing me to keep going on this seemingly never-ending quest
While I'm not a wow player myself, I really admire your video and your positive attitude toward the game. Blizzard is surely the one to blame for this horrible leveling experience, but they certainly not alone. Overall very smart strategy and entertaining video. Keep up the great work!
I love this tip about unlocking Chromie time with the class trial! As for scaling: you're 100% right about the awful range around 50. I've levelled 4 characters through 40-60 since the level squish and chromie time (a priest, mage, monk, pally) and that part is always rough, itemlevel requirements shoots up so fast that I am able to run Legacy raids and somehow get gear that will catch me up. But bad scaling has been like this as far back as legion when levelling in 2015 (1-110, and NOT doing Legion's story 110-120 content). I've only really been able to get back into the game because the level squish let me make alts properly without getting bord! And even for experienced players you're totally right about Heirlooms, by gum, I am not gonna grind out thousands of gold per alt class I want to play. I'll use em 1-30 for cheap, but the full upgrade series costs at least 20k to unlock a 1-60 weapon and that's hours of grind farming the same thing over and over, even with current WQ rewards.
If you pick up the quest to take a tour of the city by accident, you can just leave the city and a pop up will appear where you can then exit the quests and just move on.
I don't have dragonflight yet and i can tell you that this helped me to level faster, people are doing those dungeon like 10x faster compared to the default dungeon set we get as a new player. I'm 56 so far and ill just spam those until 60 at this point and then ill decide if i buy dragonflight! Thank you !
This is a great video - and I wish I had watched it before I had levelled 3 characters through BFA. Totally go dungeon route, it's the best and you get to upgrade your gear 2/5 per dungeon 1 piece of gear, and if you ask, people will usually just give you the piece of gear anyway since most people are way higher and already geared - so you can then keep the gear and use it later when you are the appropriate level.
this was such a thought provoking video, i have opinions!! so im a returning player, stopped during cata and just now coming back. dragonflight has been an absolute blast. i currently have 3 toons at 70. resto shammy, preservation evoker, and brewmaster monk. and honestly only plan to make more. thats why i knew i had to grind out heirlooms, which helps A LOT with the ilvl gaps sometimes. new players however, arent gonna have that, AND you are right, dung blues are better than heirlooms. the issue is generally, getting consistent upgrades, thats what heirlooms help smooth out honestly, but anyways, not relevant cause not really something new players can use. back track a lil bit and before i dove head first into the [live/retail] game, i was rocking in f2p, f2p twinking specifically, which is sadly pretty dead now. lvl20 max seems silly till you realize just how strong you are at that lvl, specifically when you can get i87 blues from iron docks and the like. xpoff is a twink site that dives heavily into all that if you are interested but its one of the easiest ways to see how silly the lvl scaling is. the warning about speed running is VERY real. that was something i had to adapt to quickly. the last time i played we were waiting on mana users to stop and eat lmao. i would be like 'mana' (not realizing how fast mana regens now) and before i can even finish typing sometimes its off to the races and i cant eat cause im in combat lmao. it was such a hilarious learning experience. coming from runescape (my main mmo i guess you could say) there's something about efficientness sucking the absolute fun out of a game that truly resonates with me. im glad i had a good returning/new player experience for the most part tho, but i do worry about people who arent as comfortable with the game (like a truly new player VS a returning one) being able to adapt without being overwhelmed ya kno? as much as i appreciate this video, its not for me, and before i type this next part, i really truly do want you to know i appreciate this video bc i agree with it. if THIS video is the steps new players have to go thru to feel comfortable, thats a problem that should be addressed. new players shouldnt have to do this much work to feel comfortable and strong at their current lvl (whatever that may be.) anywho, subbed and now to go watch the why WoW cant get new players vid. for fun some new player struggles i ran into: 1.) old world professions being almost entirely pointless despite my hoarding wanting otherwise. 2.) fishing being of ??? usefulness despite my love for it 3.) the ilvl gaps in gear that happens sometimes when you go dry on drops. this was most obvious with my main (since i had heirloom's for most my alts) but there were times were i just felt weak. the moment i felt WEAKEST was the switch from BfA dungs to DF dungs. i ended up running timewalking dungs to get time tokens to get at lvl gear JUST SO I COULD FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE NEW DRAGONFLIGHT DUNGEONS. it was.. wild.. 4.) the nokud defense dungeon being accessible BEFORE you can even learn about dragon riding is honestly disgusting. 5.) being so completely lost story wise. nothing made sense till i got to dragonflight. i was playing bits and pieces of three (3) xpacs. i was thrown into BfA which was not my vibe so i started Legion for class halls (which i still havent fully done on anyone yet sadly), and was vibing mainly in WoD (which i also never got to finish.) so now i just have 3 characters that mainly lvled thru BfA dungs (which i do love honestly, but i dont think they are new player friendly) while having bits and pieces of xpacs scattered around. I WILL SAY, dragonflight was extremely fun and i was fully immersed in the world they crafted BUT did EVERY other world they crafted have to get shafted this hard? i cant complete any of the xpacs before i hit 60 i imagine, then youre thrust into the new timeline (which was also just WILD to learn about, chromie and talking to npc's to change zone times, etc, etc) ALL of it, just very overwhelming. and im a returning player, im comfortable with some of these systems, but man.. 6.) evoker starting off such a high lvl made skill tree and abilities very overwhelming at first. anywho, thanks again for the wonderful video, sorry for the rambles but my return to the game gave me an interesting perspective on the state of it, for sure. it feels good (for the most part) for people like me, its fast, good for alts, etc. but thats not good for new players, which is not good for the game.
Legitimately don't think Blizzard will touch levelling until after The Last Titan, but this is a very good and well put together guide for new players in the meantime.
I will tell you this. As a new player i went on and leveld up with questing. I went to 60 and i was dieing from elite mobs , while i did quests , my dmg was AWFUL and i was like oh man wtf is this it almost made me quit. Then i made a new class because i was like meh this guy aint doing no dmg. I Saw the video and i did 10-50 dung +(RANDOM WITH REWARDS) the quest for weapon you showed on the video. The EXPERIENCE i have now is literally waaaaaay better. Thank you so much for this video!
Amazing video I’m newer and had so many problems not know where to go to level properly and being stuck in dragon flight multiple times with my first char this helps a lot even now that I’m making a alt thank you!
A few weeks ago I started a new bnet. After doing the SW tour and opening Boralus, I was able to go back to SW and talk to Chromie to choose another expansion. A level 50 was not needed.
As a former raider turned dad who plan to return at some point, I thank you for this video. It very clearly outlines the problems with the new player experience.
I know I'm a bit late, but I just grinded 13 characters from 45 to 60. At level 50, just queue DPS instead of tank/healer, keep stacking up those satchels, open them all at 60. Personally I just DPS'd on all of them because their gear was *hilariously* out-of-date, having not been played since Legion. Queue times weren't nearly as bad as I expected. Also, as long as you don't go to Stormwind after you ding 60, you can stay in Chromie Time indefinitely. Great if you need to polish up a few gear slots that your satchels didn't fill. However, this *also* means you can't switch your timeline. Lastly, I'm not sure if it's a bug or what, but the higher level you get, the ferwer instances you can do. I forget which exact level it was, but instances started disappearing, I think in the mid-50s. By 59 (and probably earlier) the only Classic dungeons I could do were all the lowest level ones.
Great guide! I too felt weaker at later levels and think this would be really helpful for experienced players to show their buddies for the best experience. also had no idea changing chromie changed the RDF list! i wanted to visit the older stuff didn't know how.
Some dickhead level 11 warrior was dissing me on a dps meter cause he had more damage than me and as soon as I started playing my alt hunter I also ended up being top dps lmao.
This video is what I have been looking for. A way to progress through the game as a new player that isnt crap. Would be good if you updated this guide as I dont think you get those satchels anymore for example.
The issue of downward power scaling while one levels has been something that has irked me for several years now. Throw in the general balance issues that wow has, heirlooms which help veteran players maintain a higher base ilvl across the bulk of their gear, and leveling alts has been an... experience. The Ring of Blood trick for a fresh weapon is a good one!
THANK YOU! I'm actually going to be returning to WoW within the next month and this helps me a lot on how to level some of my other toons up and have fun going it
You can do that good Ole level scaling chromie glitch with every single quest actually. Once you're over lvl 30, it's totally viable to solo unscaled classic, tbc, and wrath zones, dungeons and raids, then turn in quests after selecting the appropriate timeline! Also, every time you finish a quest with a good reward, save it for when you're close to level 60 and those stats will be way better. There's also something insane that's been happening on my DK (level 41) where I was soloing tbc dungeons last night and the drops were only about 20 ilvl lower than what I could get from actual dungeons I could queue for. This resulted in getting some new trinkets basically for free that were 60ilvl over what I had equipped 20->90
Jesus the leveling experience is a disaster, this game really is catered towards the existing playerbase, if its this messed up why even have those 50 lvls and just jump in to dragonflight or current exp since even the devs doesn't care
Just watched a couple of your videos and loved them. I completely agree about the story of the past expansions part where the player character is the most powerful hero of all time - I hate that as well. Luckily, it looks like it's better now with Dragonflight, although I still cringe when any NPC calls my character a "Hero". Hopefully, your videos will help any new players who try WoW out and they will stay in the game
6:36 I'd highly recommend WoD for questing because of the bonus objectives etc. and the zones were designed to be quested through without access to flying (I don't know if new players get it or not). And Cataclysm zones like Mount Hyjal, Uldum, and Twilight Highlands are underrated imo.
Great guide. I love the tricks. But I think most new players want to have fun rather than be strongest and fastest. I had a new player ask me ‘Is there anything to do other than dsrkshore? I’ve done it 3 times on 3 different characters.’ I introduced them to the war/quest board and chromie and they were blown away.
Ex player here (I feel the need to say that since my info is outdated to say the least... 2020, to be precise...), and I have to say, very well done. Its true, not many new players will see this and would probably be overwhelmed if they did, but if they have some ingame friends helping them (and I really dont think, many people have found out about this "exploit" - after all, who would go to such lengths to simulate a new player experiance?) it would make things so much more bearable.
Oh my word.. This is all knowledge I already know. I take it for granted. I don't think to guide new players through this method at all. What a difference retail has instilled in me over how the game is meant to be played. That is to say, socially. It's an MMORPG. Not a singleplayer game
I think one issue is low level combat is boring (as in you only have like 2 attacks) so they kind of have to make overworld combat OP because do you really want to cast like 6 wraths to kill a mob? Whereas later on if stuff falls too fast it makes like dot specs and stuff feel terrible and also makes the world feel non-intimidating. I don't know what the balance is for new players but I tend to like it. This is a very niche thing but for me personally I like taking characters through multiple expansions and one thing I do is freeze my level every now and then to let gear naturally catch up and to not rush too fast to the end. (Leveling is so unbelievably fast before 60 anyway). But then again I'm kinda not the target lol. I'm terrified letting characters level past 58 because I hate that the world doesn't scale past level 60.
@@Bubajumba Nah. I tried those and if anything, leveling was a million times more boring. I don't know what glue I was huffing when I was 14, but I enjoyed WoW then.
I just started playing again after a 10 year break. I noticed what you are saying how my character is getting weaker the higher I level. I could go through mobs in just a couple seconds in my level 10sih stages. Now I'm level 35 and it's taking me longer to kill mobs I encounter, and I have more abilities to attack with. I first played WoW when it was first released. I LOVED the game then. Now I started a new account, and it's so confusing with professions. I like the game now, but just not in love with it anymore. I'm sure me changing is a big part of that, but the game makes leveling not as fun as it once was. I love getting a mount at 20 instead of 40, and being able to fly is a great addition. I'm from the walk until level 40 days and those were tough. I'm still playing after a couple weeks, but the higher level I get, the less I play. Thanks for the guide. I wish I had found it before I started playing again.
As a player who's been playing for 11 years I can tell you that the most fun way to level is to just do chromie's timewalking dungeons all through levels 10 to 60 to any of your favorite dungeons of choice. I've found that Legion dungeons are the fastest so if you're looking to get them done quick then do those If you're in it for more gear then I'd do Classic, Lich King, and Pandaria Cataclysm and Burning Crusade dungeons are particularly hard sometimes due to some raid-like mechanics, and might be difficult for new players. But if you like a challenge, go for it!
I learned a few things watching your videos: 1) You are making some awesome content, keep it up! 2) As a long time player I always have wondered how many New players wow is getting and the amount of retention of them. But from reading through comments on your videos it would seem a lot of new players are coming in, just not staying. Which is something that Blizzard should most definitely be looking at, unless they really have just said "screw it, we really don't make any money on new players anyways" or something. In which case it's a useless cause, I hope not, just like you I would like to see it thrive. 3) Why the hell are so many new players picking Tank or Healer? Easily the most skill based positions in the game at lower levels, maybe not so at max level where dps checks come into play, but defininetly at lower level. I'm really surprised that no other comment from "vets" brought this up, I guess they just would like them to try and when they fail they have someone to blame?
Here's a trick i only figured out a day ago, that can be really useful. If you actually care about the story you are playing in chromie time, i would highly suggest going back into your faction main city at LV 59 and find the NPC Behsten (Alliance) or Slahtz (Horde) that allows you to turn off XP gain. This will secure every single quest in Chromie time at LV59 and allows you to finish whatever story you were currently doing, get large ammounts of gold for quests, and all the gear rewards will be scaled to 59. Once you are done with your story, You have 2 options, either do some random dungeons to reach LV60, or use the trick explained in the video, turn off Chromie time to quickly solo some dungeons for the dungeon quests, and turn them in after turning Chromie time back on. You could theoretically do every single expansion story on a single character with this method, and get massive amounts of gold and transmog items that way,
Thanks for this video, even if I consider myself an altoholic (through questing, mind you) the "trick" with the satchels was totally new to me. Will test it with a new toon soon.
back when i was like completely new player i kinda did the same by grinding lvls through dungeon. figured doing quests as low lvl is a waste of time if you care about fast leveling. except i didn't conserve satchels for higher lvls, didn't know it scales upon unpacking that's actually a gamechanger for leveling.
@@wgcdrelliot8989 what are you on about, the leveling experience was a path you could follow story wise and gameplay wise, now its just aye you can just do all of northrend from 15, it makes zero sense story wise and its weird for new players who are forced to do BFA
@@NonsensicalSpudz huh? Before shadowlands what story are you talking about, you were spending 10 levels in each zone, you had a mess of story, just random tidbits from every zone. Now you experience the story of expansions way better. *gameplay wise* i don't even know what to say, what gameplay bro? With reworked talent trees it's the best it's ever been. And no it's not wierd for new players to be forced to do bfa, because it's story leads the best of any expansion into df. What do you propose? So new players would spend 3 hours in each expansion, not understanding anything and just quitting? Your take is such an L i can't even
@@wgcdrelliot8989 BFA and Shadowlands are some of the most convuleted expansion to date also you're just skipping some great content from past expansions its an unnatural jump. the whole point of an RPG is you get to explore this huge open world and experience those small stories larger stories and even some core lore ones. start at BFA then going into Shadowlands or Dragonflight is just a skip, you're not experience world of warcrafting you're missing so much content. and you're saying I'm taking an L, come on man BFA is one of the worst expansion to date then shadowlands wasn't any better, and you're sit there and tell me thats the best place to start is the game at its weakest
Tbh I am kind of excited to try and get into WoW with the guide that you made. It seems kind of straight forward. The last time I tried to get into wow I didn't even know how to unlock and enter dungeons at all. I kept thinking that dungeons are going to show up eventually through a quest from an npc I encounter. I was doing quests on the map, really clueless about where to go, just following the roads or some sort of main story quest, I don't know. But I remember getting destroyed by current-level quest mobs and soon after I gave up on playing the game.
@@UltimateGamerCC That island starting zone was not a thing back then. I played Blood Elf and the way I thought I should progress is by following all the quests that pop up as I explore the map for my lvl.
@@kaelyoshim5234 yes, i know that Exile's Reach wasnt a thing initially, i been playing since 2005. hence i know how valuable the island is for new players.
@@kaelyoshim5234 that's another thing that Retail does better is that there's no real requirement for Dungeons, compared to Vanilla where you had to attune yourself to get into a high end Dungeon.
this is all personal opinion, but i find that once you hit 50, the easiest places to quest are old cataclysm (the starting zones are trivial and you get a lot of quests done very fast), warlords of draenor, or legion.
I have leveled a lot of alts these last two years, and at first it looks like the level scaling is the only factor in power level for your character being high when low level and low in high level. In my experience what class you play matters too, and might even have different level ranges all together which they are strong, while some classes suffer way more than others. It has to do with talents and which spells you learn at which level. Imho thats a thing I urge Blizzard to get feet on the ground for to tweak the levels you learn spells for each class to counter the level scaling. Still however it doesn't change the massive diminish you feel at the latter levels when you have most of everything, because of how strong the effects of the scaling is. But that could be solved by better gearing options, seeing as the leveling process is pretty darn fast compared to how it was originally designed. Getting a gear piece of choice per level would be very helpful. And a good item at that too, possibly even having set bonuses. Better yet if you could upgrade the item to current ilvl in stormwind or orgrimmar up to lvl 62
Interesting find to unlock Chromie time, but I'd strongly advise against just doing dungeons for new players. The best is to do the Classic / Cata zones for questing, they are nice introduction to the world, and a few dungeons every now and then.
what is there to gain from doing BFA? I had an old character from way back that was lvl 60 but is now lvl 45? and I have the chromie option but started doing BFA before watching this video. Should I stop BFA and do other stuff? I’m lvl 54 rn
@@_N4VE_ Just do whatever is fun for you until level 60 (or maybe DF unlocks at 58, not sure). These 6 or so levels are definitely too few to finish any campaign, but you can do any individual leveling zone that you enjoy, BFA or otherwise
@@19Szabolcs91 is it necessary to play thru BFA to unlock the extra races? I kinda want to get a Nightborne Elf for horde side that why. How do i get that?
@@_N4VE_ The nightborne is actually unlocked by Legion, not BFA. Specifically, you need to finish the Suramar storyline (which is one of the best in the game anyway), but to unlock that I think you need to reach at least Friendly with the 4 main Legion although I might be wrong and it may have changed, so I suggest you look it up.
Great guide ! and it couldnt have been in a better time for me. I want to start playing on NA and i only have EU account , so i have to start from literally 0 and the tought of having to do BFA as the only leveling option was stopping me the most. Thank you soooooooo much !
Oh and also, what i quite always do is: Select Legion timeline, get the dalaran Heathstone, then leave and do the Dreanor Garrison stone. But the dreanor intro is really bad and long. You can get around this by just teleporting to Dreanor in the magetower (for alliance) and just "fly"/go where the Quest giver after the Intro story stands by the shore. OR you can enter the Draenor portal Without the Draenor Quest/chromi time. THat way you will be teleported to the quest giver directly. Super easy ~
NOTE: because they gimped the artifact weapons at the end of legion, it isnt pleasant to level in unless you have heirloom weapons because they dont scale well enough, and none of the content drops weapons because why would they when you have the epic magical mcguffin of awesomeness.
As a filthy casual who has played since 2005 (omfg), I appreciate this guide. Knew about Chromie time, knew about the dungeon pool... DIDN'T know a boost gave you "Explored {zone}" achieves. Guess I should use one, finally, been stockpiling them since WoD xD As for your suggestions for Chromie leveling, obvious it has more to do with opinion than anything, but the leveling experience thru Legion is really, really fast. Also, thematically coherent in most circumstances, and good, similarly to the first three. I haven't played Shadowlands, so I dunno, and WoD I liked a lot, but I know I may be minority there. The best quests are probably the vanilla zones (wish there was a pre-Cata version). All the plots involve the character... the "sad" thing about later content is the stories only get resolution in raids, or, imagine, in the novels. derp. I've also heard absolutely fantastic things from trusted sources that Drgonflight is fun, perhaps even refreshing.
I just started DF, I am a Classic player, so I take my time to do things around so I embrace the game better. One thing that, at least to me, seems kinda complicated, is the Crafting system. Could you maybe make a video pinpointing the basics around crafting? I read that crafting items now stay relevant forever, so it would be nice for everyone to be aware
you misread the guide comment, there is a literal function in the game that allows experienced players to be guides for new players, theres even a new player guide chat where you can ask questions to the guides. the suggestion was not to google "fastest way to lvl 70 drood speed enchant cheese speed run"
You got it spot on, I gave up when BFA hit, the children were on about WoW so I re-subbed for a month, started out at level 48, tried Shadowlands, a lot of running around and not so much xp or gear, went back to the hated BFA, 7k - 8k to 10k xp per quest, levelled up to 60 real quick, except I only got 2 gear drops, no weapons dropped, no blues, finished with an ilevel of 156, while trying to queue for dungeons I must have had the plague, no invites, and no one wanted to join me, it's possible Blizzard expected more dungeon drops to boost the ilevel it didn't happen. Almost finished some old raids/dungeons, as even with poor gear they can still be run, had loads of old quests in the log unfinished, now mostly cleared, stood next to some people with masses of HP 400+ gear, no way in hells chance of ever catching up.
For those who want to level a bit quicker, i recommend doing the Warlords of Draenor intro until you get your garrison hearthstone toy, then finish wuesting either there or pick a new place, a good idea may be to start Legion to unlock the class order hall.
New player here. I want to play the story from the previous expansions, iv selected the the timeline from chromie and even downloaded an add on to show only the storyline quests but i think i still miss smthng from experiencing the story from each expansion. I mean in dragonflight you have so many cutscenes after quests and thingsblike that, but if i try to play the story from another expansion nothing like this happens
Salvage cache of goods. i go ahead and USE them Satchel of helpful goods i Save for later. What about SCORCHED satchel of helpful goods: do i save them also or go ahead and use????????????
If you need a but more connection to your character, and adventure(s) to really get to feel like you character exists in the world:
I STRONGLY suggest Chromie Time -> Cataclysm -> and doing any Easter Kingdoms/Kalimdor quests from the job board.
Said scenic rout also has some snazzy cosmetic gear in it for you too.
i think my main problem with how leveling is done is its just a mess because theres no logical path
like westfall-redridge-duskwood etc
ytou can do westfall-borean tundra-hen like uldum
it breaks flow that used to exist and even though I'm not new it feels kinda weird
@@NonsensicalSpudz on the plus side, you get to skip the expansions that suck to level through, i don’t mind outland, but i know alot of people that actively dislike it’s dated quest design.
@@NonsensicalSpudz nah fuuuuuuck classic leveling, this is way better
@@newanomalyproductions Those "Vanilla" locations are considered Cataclysm too ;) Same Chromie Time.
As hat says around 3:30, MoP dungeons also drop the satchels, even if the difficulty/bosscount aren't quite the same.
EDIT*
You now get mount and flying training at levels 10,20,30 and 40 for free.
same I've been playing since 2004 and I had no idea about this. Great to know for my alts.
With those comments at the end, I always love when veteran players (in WoW, and other games) go "What are you complaining about? You just need to
personal tip from me.
Started playing again with my buddy who was just starting. Was horrified to learn he could only do BFA content until 50. Absolutely mind numbing
You can do all of the vanilla quests. Nothing stopping you going through the Elwynn, Redridge, Westfalll lines or equivalent.
Recent patches, Timewalking dungeon loot and the AH help from 60-70 but lower levelling even with heirlooms, is a pain.
the accuracy in that statement about people running ahead and kicking you is so spot on lol
I'm playing wow since 2006 and we need more videos like this. Blizz have to put more attention for new players. Keep it going ! Good job !
I like the idea (i'm not a new player, just more an in and out one who recently dived in head first through the pain myself),
As honestly, it feels like what the tutorial area *should* be like, especially if Blizzard wants to keep wearing illidan's blindfold and not paying any attention to the previous expansions and the experience of getting to the most recent expansion.
New player here thanks for this video, I did BFA once and I almost quit, I want to play a new class now so this video is perfect
Basically you 1 shot all mobs no matter what gear you have and get a ton of good gear when you hit 60 you should be able to have enough gear to get into time walking then do time walking till 70 and buy the time walking gear from the vender to get 5 pieces of gear if you actually need it.
niceee that's a great idea; i'll try that with my league of level 50 alts I never leveled through SL with.
I suspect TBC era zones are the best zones to focus on based on the amount of quest turn-ins at once.
Thanks for this. Im a casual wow player. Leveling is tough for me and can be a bit tiring so this will help.
I'm a new player and I followed your method after leveling a character the way blizzard told me to,
the experience was much better.
Im totally new wow, started SoD and having a blast. My plan rn is to level on era to 60 then do BC -Wotlk on WoTLK classic. Then transition to cataclysm as it comes out.
Either way im having a blast c;
The thing i have noticed is this:
If you select "Burning Crusade" as your Random Dungeon choice, bosses have around only half the health of Classic dungeons.
Anyways!
As someone who levels characters through dungeons, I didnt know the bags scale when you open them
The comment at 10:52 was recommending YOU becoming a guide, as in, going to the embassy in SW or Org and signing up to be a guide to help new players.
@@tedestrial9627 Yeah, I am definitely not a creator and I can absolutely admire and understand the amount of work that must go into it.
I had you on x2 speed and it still felt like you were speaking very slowly.
Did you get to experience it? Season 4 is close to beginning and I hear there's gonna be a new game mode.
A few things this video doesn't mention:
- WoD is the fastest expansion to level in (as of now)
- The intro quests to each expansion are always faster than completing the entire campaign in any other expansion
- There is no reason to buy epic flying, as it will be free in 10.1.5 (next patch), and you will get dragonriding in the dragon isles
- Rather than flying, spend your money on gear upgrades once you hit 60 as dragonflight greens will become available
- Don't forget to quest while you queue for dungeons, I found some quest upgrades are higher ilvl than BoAs even though most aren't
the best tactic is to queue random dungeons all the time until you completed the best dungeons that have quests inside and then switch the expansion with chromies help and then continue queuing and doing dungeon quests. also its recommended while you wait for dungeon invite to do the introduction quests from that expansion because they offer the best XP and is quickly done.
I'm enjoying following the quest guide but it's slowly getting pretty grindy that it feels like it keeps forcing me to keep going on this seemingly never-ending quest
thats what its about... a never ending quest.
Have been playing for 18 years. Learned a lot from your video, Thanks
Lots of really great tips that are good for existing players too. I will be using the satchel trick with my alts from now on!
Great video. I'm a returning casual player and just found your channel. I really like your take and all the informations you bring. Tanks!
I don't have dragonflight yet and i can tell you that this helped me to level faster, people are doing those dungeon like 10x faster compared to the default dungeon set we get as a new player. I'm 56 so far and ill just spam those until 60 at this point and then ill decide if i buy dragonflight! Thank you !
Super helpful. I was about to remove it from my computer after a couple days. I might give it a go again with this
This is a great video - and I wish I had watched it before I had levelled 3 characters through BFA.
Good guide. I got my cousin to play with me recently and she was overwhelmed. This is basically where I led her too
this was such a thought provoking video, i have opinions!!
so im a returning player, stopped during cata and just now coming back. dragonflight has been an absolute blast. i currently have 3 toons at 70. resto shammy, preservation evoker, and brewmaster monk. and honestly only plan to make more. thats why i knew i had to grind out heirlooms, which helps A LOT with the ilvl gaps sometimes. new players however, arent gonna have that, AND you are right, dung blues are better than heirlooms. the issue is generally, getting consistent upgrades, thats what heirlooms help smooth out honestly, but anyways, not relevant cause not really something new players can use.
back track a lil bit and before i dove head first into the [live/retail] game, i was rocking in f2p, f2p twinking specifically, which is sadly pretty dead now. lvl20 max seems silly till you realize just how strong you are at that lvl, specifically when you can get i87 blues from iron docks and the like. xpoff is a twink site that dives heavily into all that if you are interested but its one of the easiest ways to see how silly the lvl scaling is.
the warning about speed running is VERY real. that was something i had to adapt to quickly. the last time i played we were waiting on mana users to stop and eat lmao. i would be like 'mana' (not realizing how fast mana regens now) and before i can even finish typing sometimes its off to the races and i cant eat cause im in combat lmao. it was such a hilarious learning experience. coming from runescape (my main mmo i guess you could say) there's something about efficientness sucking the absolute fun out of a game that truly resonates with me. im glad i had a good returning/new player experience for the most part tho, but i do worry about people who arent as comfortable with the game (like a truly new player VS a returning one) being able to adapt without being overwhelmed ya kno?
as much as i appreciate this video, its not for me, and before i type this next part, i really truly do want you to know i appreciate this video bc i agree with it. if THIS video is the steps new players have to go thru to feel comfortable, thats a problem that should be addressed. new players shouldnt have to do this much work to feel comfortable and strong at their current lvl (whatever that may be.) anywho, subbed and now to go watch the why WoW cant get new players vid.
for fun some new player struggles i ran into:
1.) old world professions being almost entirely pointless despite my hoarding wanting otherwise.
2.) fishing being of ??? usefulness despite my love for it
3.) the ilvl gaps in gear that happens sometimes when you go dry on drops. this was most obvious with my main (since i had heirloom's for most my alts) but there were times were i just felt weak. the moment i felt WEAKEST was the switch from BfA dungs to DF dungs. i ended up running timewalking dungs to get time tokens to get at lvl gear JUST SO I COULD FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE NEW DRAGONFLIGHT DUNGEONS. it was..
Im going to show this video to every new player. Thank you Hat.
Oh, interesting! Good tips!
I just go to WoD on every new char, due to Findle's Loot-A-Rang. Saves so much time, especially on ranged classes.
Hey man, new player here! I liked your video and I'm going to try it out ,but will I still be able to do the dragonflight quests?
hahaha the level scaling trick with the Arena questlines ... you sneaky bastard :D love it
Just watched a couple of your videos and loved them.
I’ve done it 3 times on 3 different characters.’
I introduced them to the war/quest board and chromie and they were blown away.
😆
Quick tip, the quest xp from Stonetailon mountain is doubled. So u will get some easy lvls that way.
I just wish WoW leveling was fun period.
Maybe just go outside and touch grass?
@@barrontrump3943
I wish I could do so without consequence...
Not really about leveling, recommend trying classic or even classic hc. Really fun to level
@@Bubajumba Nah. I tried those and if anything, leveling was a million times more boring. I don't know what glue I was huffing when I was 14, but I enjoyed WoW then.
@@dahurgthedragon9010 hm sounds like you don't like wow to begin with😅
I just started playing again after a 10 year break. I wish I had found it before I started playing again.
great ideas! I am thinking of returning after 7 years, so I might need to do this.
As a player who's been playing for 11 years I can tell you that the most fun way to level is to just do chromie's timewalking dungeons all through levels 10 to 60 to any of your favorite dungeons of choice.
I've found that Legion dungeons are the fastest so if you're looking to get them done quick then do those
If you're in it for more gear then I'd do Classic, Lich King, and Pandaria
Cataclysm and Burning Crusade dungeons are particularly hard sometimes due to some raid-like mechanics, and might be difficult for new players. But if you like a challenge, go for it!
I learned a few things watching your videos:
1) You are making some awesome content, keep it up!
You could theoretically do every single expansion story on a single character with this method, and get massive amounts of gold and transmog items that way,
That is actually really cool and great work! I applaud you!
Thanks for this video, even if I consider myself an altoholic (through questing, mind you) the "trick" with the satchels was totally new to me. Will test it with a new toon soon.
I sent this to my friend who just started again after 16yrs hopefully he's able to do this. I am hating carting him around Kul Tiras... lol
back when i was like completely new player i kinda did the same by grinding lvls through dungeon. figured doing quests as low lvl is a waste of time if you care about fast leveling. except i didn't conserve satchels for higher lvls, didn't know it scales upon unpacking that's actually a gamechanger for leveling.
Do satchels work at 60 too? I was consider saving them for when I hit 60 for dragon flight questing/Gear
This game is a mere shadow of what it once was. Leveling a new character is absolutely mind numbing.
Do we even play the same game?? Leveling is the best it's ever been
@@wgcdrelliot8989 what are you on about, the leveling experience was a path you could follow story wise and gameplay wise, now its just aye you can just do all of northrend from 15, it makes zero sense story wise and its weird for new players who are forced to do BFA
Your take is such an L i can't even
@@wgcdrelliot8989 BFA and Shadowlands are some of the most convuleted expansion to date
also you're just skipping some great content from past expansions
its an unnatural jump. the whole point of an RPG is you get to explore this huge open world and experience those small stories larger stories and even some core lore ones.
start at BFA then going into Shadowlands or Dragonflight is just a skip, you're not experience world of warcrafting you're missing so much content.
and you're saying I'm taking an L, come on man BFA is one of the worst expansion to date then shadowlands wasn't any better, and you're sit there and tell me thats the best place to start is the game at its weakest
The game starts at dragonflight, previous expansions hold little
Tbh I am kind of excited to try and get into WoW with the guide that you made. But I remember getting destroyed by current-level quest mobs and soon after I gave up on playing the game.
when was it that you tried to get into WoW initially?
@@UltimateGamerCC Few years ago (2 maybe 3) before I started playing FFXIV
The best is to do the Classic / Cata zones for questing, they are nice introduction to the world, and a few dungeons every now and then.
yeah dungeons stressful af for new players
what is there to gain from doing BFA?
The ring of blood meme is stronk my dude!
Oh and also,
what i quite always do is:
Select Legion timeline, get the dalaran Heathstone, then leave and do the Dreanor Garrison stone.
Pretty sure they’re not relevant forever. There’s a lot of player who huff the copium and stretch the truth to weasel new players in.
Thank you so much! I started playing a week ago and this help tremendously
you misread the guide comment, there is a literal function in the game that allows experienced players to be guides for new players, theres even a new player guide chat where you can ask questions to the guides. the suggestion was not to google "fastest way to lvl 70 drood speed enchant cheese speed run"
Very cool guide. I've figured this out as well, long ago. I pretty much only love lvling characters.
