  • Step by Step!
    In today's video, we look at a 2 stroke Toro CCR2450 Single Stage Snowblower.
    The issue my customer described was that the carburetor leaked fuel.
    This is generally caused by a leaky needle valve.
    Service Manual: www.toro.com/en/parts/partdet...
    Parts: www.ereplacementparts.com/tor...
    I show you how to remove the carburetor, disassemble it & properly clean it!
    We also replace the fuel line, as well as the fuel filter.
    Once everything is back together, I cut off a frayed piece of the pull start cable.
    I then mix up some fresh 50:1 fuel & fire it up!

      Yeah most of the old Lawn Boy 2 strokes had them, and some of the newer Briggs & Stratton carbs also use plastic carbs.

      Hello, I did everything you said. I went and got fresh gas. Clean carburetor again. Put it all back together. It started right away. But when I shut it off . It would not start back up. I not if Auto Zone gave me the right spark plug. My original one was BPMR4A, they gave me BPMR10A. They told me it would work. I set the spark plug gap to .030 . I am about to buy a new carburetor

    Thank you!!! My Toro was running for a couple minutes than dying from fuel starvation so I suspected the float bowl and inlet were gummed up. But when I tilted the snowblower on its front and took the float bowl off, the hinge pin holding the float in place slipped out, and everything (float, hinge pin, needle pin and that tiny needle pin spring) fell out and scattered both in the nooks and crannies of the snowblower and also on my garage flow. Crap!!! I eventually found everything, cleaned it all up with carburetor cleaner, but then I spent hours trying to figure out how that little spring was supposed to go (I'd try it a certain way, reassemble everything only to find the thing wouldn't start at all). Eventually I got it to where it would run for 30 seconds (which was worse than it was when I went to fix it).
    Then I came across your well-made video and in particular, the shot at 3:57 showed me how the spring was supposed to go. I had been running the spring through that circular hole in the float hinge tab. Went out today after seeing your video, reassembled it correctly and now it's running perfect. Again, THANK YOU!!!

    Thanks for your excellent video; I’m just a diy homeowner but was able to successfully perform the work on my 2003 model CCR-2450 Toro; I cleaned the carb, replaced the spark plug, and replaced the primer bulb all by myself. Only thing different is I replaced the OEM Toro primer bulb with a Briggs & Stratton part 394281S; instead of those white clips, it has a threaded tube that goes through the back of that metal plate and can be secured with a 1/4-10 flange nut. All is well and machine runs perfect now.

    I have a Toro 38600, which is almost identical to this one and I just went through cleaning the carb yesterday. The plastic carburetor really left me shaking my head, but, this little machine works great. So, why criticize it if it works? The engine usually starts on the first pull even after sitting all summer. It runs just fine and although it often isn't man enough to handle the hard frozen plug at the end of the drive, 90 percent of the time it's a better choice than the big heavy awkward two-stage blowers. I usually have the driveway all cleared with this little machine while the neighbors are trying to wrestle their big blowers out of the garage to begin their workout trying to start a much larger, harder to start engine, with a pull rope. I got this thing for free, but have to say, it's worth taking care of. Great little thing!

    That little fray near the handle can ruin your day big time. I bought my 3650 toro brand new in 1997, it was the very first snowblower I ever owned, i was 37 years old when a major artery to my heart became 99% blocked nearly killing me, it was that event that persuaded me to purchase my first ever snowblower, my local mower shop convinced me that a single stage machine was the way to go, I was so excited, fast forward a few years and we had a major snowstorm here in NJ, I opened my shed filled the toro with fuel, pressed the primer twice the recommended amount, grabbed the handle and the next thing I knew I was standing there with the handle in my hand attached to nothing, I froze for a brief second until my brain processed what had just happened, and then a ong string of obscenities followed. Here I was with almost two feet of snow on the ground and my snowblower wasn't going to fix itself and I couldn't get it out of my shed unless I shoveled a path 150 feet to my house where I could maybe get it down my cellar to work on it, I have no garage and the shed is a small plastic one, so I got my tools, knelt in the snow and literally dismantled the whole thing just to get to the starter assembly in the middle of a nor'easter, my hands were nearly frotbit, I ran inside to thaw out a bit once in a while, I worked on it for what seemed like days bout it was about two hours or more, I finally reunited the cord with the handle, put it all back together, by this time it was dark, I cleared my sidewalk, driveway and then went two blocks from my my house to my girlfriends house where her and her sister wondered what happened to me because I was supposed to be there hours ago. The moral of the story is, pay attention to the little things because in most cases they're the ones that will trip you up, if only I had seen that fray exactly like you showed that day would have gone like clockwork.

    Great video, as usual. Only thing I would have done differently is pull the cord up through the handle and THEN cut it off. No need to thread the cord up through the handle. Of course it might have been frayed so much it wouldn’t pull through, but in that case I usually use a lighter to melt the fraying down enough to not snag. 👍🔧🧰 I particularly appreciate this video because I was just given my first blower of this design class and it’s the exact same model. Perfect for doing up on my back deck because of the rubber blades and narrow enough to go up my path around the side of the house. It’s a keeper! 😂👍🔧🧰❄️❄️❄️

    Should of cut shorter and used a wire Corrector that you heat, its called heat shrink over that plastic piece and then it would stay on and get the one that fits right, if you wire outdoor stuff like this, then best to use heat shrink tubes and own a kit with many sizes, great video on how to rebuild these cards, I have a GTS3000E Toro starring with 890 on serial number, model#38435 I think, can't go into my pictures to look, my choke don't work and it pulls out. It runs great. I add 1 ounce of fuel stabilizer to one gallon of gas and 50 to 1 oil for 1 gallon of gas and I use that on my weed wackers which is made by Husqvarna same with my backpack ball but my snowblower is a Toro and it's the best day ever little snowblower I've ever owned, every now and then, the Cobb freezes up from being very cold out and it getting wet so I must hit the long two and a half 3 in shaft going to the break the ice off of it. I do spray it down with PB Blaster silicone spray oil pretty much the same as WD-40 lightly, I mainly use it for the shoot but not usually have any issues with clogging. All my name is have issues with all their machines every year and I'm the only one that my machines are the same for year after year because I take care of them and I stopped them every month during the winter time in summer time in my garage, I have a two car garage but don't use as a parking garage because it's only 22 ft by 22 ft with barn style sliding does, so it's more like a workshop and it dark floor, during the winter time once I'm done snow blowing I turn on my kerosene / diesel heater 210000 BTUs and run it for about 15 minutes to dry the machine off and that's not even in front of the machine. My doors open halfway so you can breathe that's probably a hundred ten degrees in there and I'm standing outside pretty much and a t-shirt when it's 10 degrees out. I wait for it to dry off so i can get anything on it tighten up, its a 2 stroke, 2 stroke are known to loosen things up from time to time.

      Your float could be set too high (when looking at the carb upside down), meaning the engine uses the fuel in the bowl before it lowers enough to refill the bowl. Higher rpm usually means an air leak, but if it's after 30 seconds it's probably because it's leaning out (not enough fuel). Good luck.

      Probably leaking extra fuel and then if it chugs black smoke it's running rich. This is common on these units, although you could try taking the carb apart and making sure the float is set to the right height

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  5 років тому +3

      1st off, check for air leaks between the gaskets in between carb and engine.
      Air leak will cause hunting/surging. Some gasket maker will help seal things up a bit.
      If that doesn't work, try enlarging the pilot jet.
      The carb in the video isn't the same as yours, but the process is the same. The pilot jet should be on the side of your carb.
      Here's a video on how to do that: ua-cam.com/video/Z6F38bSxSp4/v-deo.html
      Hope this helps!

      Not pulling enough fuel through the main jet. The pilot jet is for idle, so you're idle circuit as they say is clear, but once there's load, the engine needs more fuel and the main jet is probably partially clogged. Or the float is set to the incorrect angle

    Great video. I have this exact carb so I followed your instructions to take the carb apart, cleaned it and put it back together. I have used brand new gas with the correct mixture and also replaced the spark plug. However, the snowblower will still not start. I have double-checked all gaskets etc. to make sure there aren't any leaks. I did not change the inlet needle but wondering if that could be the issue. The carb is not leaking...it just won't start. I do not have a pressure gauge to to test like you did. Can you think of anything else I can try?

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  4 роки тому +2

      Check for spark, and buy yourself a can of carb cleaner to spray into the cylinder.
      If you have spark, and the engine starts with carb cleaner, then it's the carb.

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  4 роки тому +2

      @@Michael-kz4is you can check spark by spraying carb cleaner into the carb while it's bolted to the engine, give the cord a pull and if it starts and dies out then it's a carb issue (not getting fuel)
      If it doesn't start at all, probably a spark issue (not getting spark) then you remove spark plug, lay it against the engine while it's plugged into the spark plug wire, and when you pull the pull cord, it should spark the at the plug.

    I did everything you said. I took the carburetor apart and clean it. But I did not buy new parts . I put it back together. It started right away. I let it run for a while. It ran good. But when I shut it off. It would not start again. I did not get fresh gas. Because I have a whole 2 gallon from last year. Would this be the problem

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I always run fresh gas, there's really no point in cleaning a carb and then running old fuel because you can end up sucking up a piece of gunk. Spray it with some carb cleaner and if it fires, you know you have spark and compression. Then it isolates the carb as the issue.

    • @martinmercerjr8615

      I bought Gum fluid starter. Spray it before I taken the carburetor apart. It started right away. And did the same thing. I already replace the spark plug. But did not replace the float. I the whole carburetor apart and clean it with gum carburetor cleaner and used compressed air. So you just think it the gas.

    Once the primer air tube in the carb clogs it's a rap. Can you clean the tube? Yep. Will it clog again? In no time flat it will. It's a bad design. Primer is too far from the carb and the bulb has a hole in it. Sediment gets in, gets pumped into the compromised plastic air chamber and next thing you know the primer bulb is flat when you press it. Some carbs are worth cleaning. But not the ones like these that you can buy for $12.
