if I remember correctly I think ZUN actually made the games to complement the OST, not the other way around, as he was a composer originally, that's why my favourite aspect of touhou as a whole is the music (both the original OST and the fanmade arrangements)
Touhou is a very large, incredible franchise built with passion from a creator who loves creating and fans who love much of the same, it's because of this that this franchise has such a huge fanbase, yet stays niche due to its stance of entry. I think the fan parts of the franchise are what give it it's biggest heart though, the community creates so much for itself. I highly recommend reading the various manga (specifically Forbidden Scrollery) if you haven't already, and also while Memories of Phantasm is the most popular, you'd be missing out if you don't check out Musou Kakyou (a self-contained Touhou anime which has the best animation of them all period), and Hifuu Club Activity Record (an anime that creates backstories for all the characters, and frames the stories in the perspectives of Maribel and Renko). The latter especially is my favorite with episode 2 being one of the best stories I've seen Touhou create, so please check them out!
The love the fans hold is apparent from the professional quality of the few projects I have seen so far. Seeing that dedication, gives me a yearning to further familiarize myself with the fanbase and series itself. I plan to experience as much I can, as I have truly begun to the love the series. I'm excited to see what lies ahead! I really appreciate the titles you listed, I'll be sure to give check them out. Thanks!
Fun fact: In the original VN of Umineko, Jessica cosplays as Marisa while tsurupettan plays in the background, it's a shame this was removed in the ps3 and Steam version, at least this reference was preserved in golden fantasia :v
That reference went completely over my head at first. My mind was blown when I realized the origin of Jessica's cosplay and that Tsurupettan was originally a Touhou song. I'm pretty sure there is also a loading screen in Golden Fantasia with Jessica as Marisa and Kanon as Reimu.
Mountain of Faith was my 1st Touhou game and is still my favourite. I love the autumn theme, the OSTs, and the fun bullet patterns. Im looking forward for the next Touhou video :)
13:01 couldn't agree more. I'm weak towards the Capital City of Flowers in the Sky. Always think of Lily White's happy face when I play that stage (or listen to the music) which somehow brightens my day a lot.
The EoSD extra stage kept killing ya.? It was Maze of Love wasn't it. I had to download Spellcard practice for that one. Most people just bomb through it.
Yep, that as the one. I managed to get there a few times, but eventually gave up and moved on. I plan to go back and try to complete them once I have gotten a bit better.
I have a love-hate relationship with touhou because I think that what the protagonist do by solving incidents is morally reprehensible because I think the current state of gensokyo and how it's ran is immoral sure the protagonist stop bad incidents that would get a lot of people killed but because they stop all incidents that means even people with good intentions or are just outright doing a good thing but on large scale that makes it incident would also have to be stopped which doesn't sit right with me I still like touhou but I just philosophically disagree with the protagonist.
I don't know if I just haven't thought much in that regard, or if I haven't reached that area in the story yet, but it's an interesting perspective. Thank you for sharing!
@@NeNeiSan well the main thing that triggered this was in one of the official touhou mangas reimu does something very controversial and something I really heavily disagree with.
@@izzymosley1970 Believe me, the series that got inspired by Touhou has it even worse in protagonist department as they literally do things for self-benefit only and remotely kind things they do are quite questionable(and to be honest, it's much more interesting that way, story with perfect protagonist is merely a children's tale) I think I may have a clue of what you're talking about - but the reality is that Gensokyo itself is an awful place to be in and has its own rules, maybe that person thought what he did was right, but again - turning into Youkai might be the greatest sin of all since you're throwing away your humanity (while there is a case to be made for Alice and Patchouli, but they're implied to live for quite a while and Magicians aren't youkai per se.) You might disagree with Reimu and her tactics to solving these incidents, but if she didn't resolve them, most of the time Gensokyo will go straight to hell and a lot of Gensokyo residents are awful people who have a lot of destructive power (I know it may sound I'm rephrasing your point, but these incidents literally give her no choice but to engage as they endanger the Gensokyo climate - it's not a world that is bound by common sense after all)
@@misery_shun I agree that most incidents were bad and it should have been solved but the thing that really gets me is what exactly classifies as an incident as far as I know an incident is just anything that upsets the balance of gensokyo which I already morally disagree with the balance of gensokyo so hypothetically someone could make an incident that would change gensokyo for the better and the protagonist would still stop them because it's their job to solve incidents and keep the balance despite the fact that the balance is immoral.
