  • The most recent addition to the Fate Franchise, Samurai Remnant takes place during the Edo period following Miyamoto Iori who finds himself in the midst of a fight to the death known as The Waxing Moon Ritual. A magus ritual summoning heroes from myth and legend in order for one’s wish to be granted. Here is how the story, charaters, gameplay, and visuals all come to question the what lies within the hearts of those who participate for such a once in a lifetime chance.

    Hey brother I just finishsed mahoyo on steam. My only type moon experience before that was the KNK movies and fate anime. I'll probably check out tsukihime remake next as I heard it's getting an English release next year. I just watched your, 'Type Moon's History and A New Potential Era' video and decided to sub. Your videos are very well-spoken and clear. I'm using them as a sort of guide as a navigate the nasuverse. Keep up the good work bro

      I hope you enjoyed Mahoyo! Type-Moon also a lot of to offer in its stories and its nice to see you're taking the steps into it. Besides from the big names like Fate, Tsukihime, Knk, etc. they also have a fair share of lesser known works that still carries the heart of TM and are very much worth the time.
      Thank you so much, I'm happy to hear that! If you have any questions about TM feel free to ask.

    Thank you for the video. The visuals of the game look stunning, especially the character designs. I'm wondering how Master vs Servant fights work. In the footage Iori fights against servants which shouldn't be possible. Is this narratively explained? Also, how long is the game? Usually I'm more of a quality > quantity kind of person but at this price point, there has to be some meat on the bones.
    Regarding your review, if I may offer one comment: the speaking sounds almost desinterested (which is obviously not true), like you're giving a business presentation. The script itself is written very well though.

      Since it's been out for a few months already, your safest bet may be to just wait for a sale if you're unsure about it. In my opinion, if you can resonate with the characters and their dynamic, it is certainly worth it. If you play on PC, Steam's winter sale starts tomorrow so it might be worth a look. Iori against Servants is a bit weird and may take some suspension of disbelief at first. There is a bit of a disconnect between gameplay and cutscenes where in gameplay he takes the main role in the fight, while in cutscenes he seems to mostly support Saber asides from a few special moments. When it comes to making sense narratively it comes down to Iori's skill, Saber, and the circumstances of each fight.
      By the end of all 3 endings I clocked around 82 hours, which came with leaving the game running while taking breaks, taking time exploring each location, and doing an extra playthrough that was mostly unnecessary. There are some quests that are arbitrary, pretty much there to artifically lengthen the story in the first third, but the chemistry between Saber and Iori really helped make it enjoyable rather than tedious.
      I appreciate the the criticism! While doing the recording, that's just how it naturally comes to me or how I think it fits the tone of what I've written. I realize its still something I still need to work on; to be more expressive in voice while not overdoing it to stay true to myself. Thank you!

      @@NeNeiSan Oh I definitely won't buy the game outside of a sale, I think it was 55€ during autumn sale and I will probably wait a bit longer. The playtime is definitely enough even if I deduct ~30h for the stuff you mentioned

    Samurai Remnant was such a trip, really gave me the magic of a grail war I haven't felt since the original Stay Night. I do think certain characters, both masters and servants, remain a bit underexplored, but I heard we got DLC coming so maybe that'll be fixed there.
    God do I remember this story though, esp that ending...goddamn, one of a kind.

    • @NeNeiSan
      @NeNeiSan  5 місяців тому +2

      Story wise that probably is the biggest problem with it, although the ones that are explored are very tightly written characters. The DLCs could go anywhere with the story, which is what makes me curious. I'm hoping one of them is a Gilgamesh centered DLC, following him mess about during the course of the ritual would be fun. The Season Pass Steam page says the first one is planned for April, so hopefully we get some information soon!
      The way ETD was executed will always stick with me. One of the best endings to a Fate story imo.

    I agree, the 'true' ending made me drop my jaw. Probably my favorite foreshadowing and twist since long ago and i hope in a DLC we will get one that expands upon it, maybe giving us alternative version of it.
    I was sure NG+ is gonna be just boring repetition but seeing that it actually expanded with new cutscenes, situations and new Digressions really surprised me. That's how NG+ should be done.
    I, probably unlike many, think that Rouge Servants are completely unnecessary and bad idea. They are there just to extend games length and be for pure fanservice (Gilgamesh is now featured in more Fate Media's than any other servant). With maybe exception of Rouge Saber, all rest of them is just a waste of time and instead of focusing on them, they could focus on Caster, Assassin or Jalter a little more.
    Combat is enjoyable but pretty quickly i noticed few problems with pacing and repetitive patterns. It's enjoyable but i played few Musou games and i can't say Samurai is shining example of the genre. Not to mention, it can also be broken in half (completely by accident, as in my case) as early as you unlock Fire Stance.
    Once u unlock Fire and Void Stance's, the rest is basically useless, and if you also forge your sword right and assign correct buffs to it, it goes to such lengths that in my case, it rendered Saber useless and made me play only as Iori, even against servants, going through them like a knife through a butter. Making Iori way too OP is way too easy, i feel like some of these buffs should be nerfed or just don't exist but that's just me.
    Graphics and sound are good. It's KT, they aren't masters of the craft but also they don't make ugly games, so it's a standard.
    I really hope DLC's will live up to the hype. Samurai is really good game. I didn't expected anything from it but I still got something amazing that reminded me why i fell in love with that Franchise

      It really captures the essence of what Fate should be. I do agree that, instead of rogues, time definitely would have been better spent on the main 7. I honestly did really enjoy the humor and interactions they brought though in spite of not really contributing much as a whole.
      I'm excited for the DLCs as well! It would be nice to touch more on underdeveloped Master/Servants like Caster, Assassin, etc.
      First one drops April so we'll see what direction they are going to take!

      @@NeNeiSan It worries me that despite it being released in April, we didn't even got a teaser for it. One thing i liked was that the story intentionally tried to parallel FSN...only to face heel turn into the inverted world.
    Iori and Saber have all the makings of a shirou and saber and that's true to a point buut...then everything gets revealed and inverted and it a good deconstruction of the original story which itself was a deconstruction. very clever

    • @NeNeiSan
      @NeNeiSan  4 місяці тому

      I never thought of that, that's an interesting catch. It really captures the feeling of Stay Night from the dynamic of the characters and the ritual, but at the same time, completely shifts its formula to have its own unqiueness.

      @MrInuhanyou123 4 місяці тому

      @@NeNeiSan like think about it. Iori and kaya is stand in for shirou and taiga/illya. Musashi is basically kiritsugu. Shousetsu is ioris kirie etc

    • @NeNeiSan
      @NeNeiSan  4 місяці тому

      @@MrInuhanyou123 That can also be seen between Iori's and Shirou's ideals as well as the Sabers. Shirou and Iori's centered around keeping and bringing about peace, with a darker self destructive desire within. The Sabers on the other hand were essentially slaves to their fate due to the circumstances of their birth. Both throughout eventually start to cherish themselves and lose regret for the the path they took through the help of their Master.
      I especially like that Musashi/Kuritsugu comparison, both killers hardened by the times for one reason or another that let a form of their ideal get passed on to those they adopted, changing the trajectory of how they will live their life and what they want to pursue. Thinking about it, there is a lot of interesting parallels between the two stories. I guess that's why SR has that magic essence of FSN.

    Great video. I remember 1 year ago watching the teaser and forgetting about the existence of the game. Later that year, after seeing the game again and almost ready to come out, I was a little bit more excited, but little did I know how much I was going to enjoy it.
    First ending done, I was a little disappointed with what it seemed like a lot of build-up for a anticlimactic ending as a whole (except maybe for 1 character).
    After the second one, I liked that it used the other characters that did not shine on the first one. But then again, I had the feeling that something was missing, especially with those new scenes.
    After that, I get to it again and, finally, I get something that meets my expectations. Something that, it may not be the correct cup of tea for everyone, but for me, with all the information and build-up provided, is the ending I enjoyed the most, and to this day is still stuck with me.
    I'm really excited for the DLCs, but before that, I will wait for the three to come out (in the meantime, I'll start my Tsukihime journey, with the original and all other works related to it, and then the remake later this year. I'm looking forward to it, because it is the last big work in the Nasuverse that I did not visit yet).
    All in all, this game and Mahoyo were my favourite things of 2023, so let's see if 2024 brings me the same joy. Happy new year btw, hope you too have an amazing year.

    • @NeNeiSan

      I feel that the 2 neutral endings are meant to feel lackluster. The loose plot threads that don't quite tie together in the way you hope for leaves a feeling of emptiness, much like Iori if he was to go down that path.Its probably best to wait for all DLCs to come out. They could go in any direction with the story and characters and I'm also excited to see where they will go! The first one comes out february being centered around Gilgamesh.
      I hope you enjoy Tsukihime! It's a personal story, on that takes all sorts of crazy turns fitting of a Nasuverse entry.
      Thank you! Happy New Year, same to you!

    For me, when it was first revealed, I thought it looked ok until I saw that it was a Koei Tecmo game. But, when the second onward trailers came out, I genuinely became interested and excited.
    So far, I’ve only done one play through (I did the “Good”/“Snake” ending) and I might, eventually, do the “True” Ending. But, personally, I’m not going to bother doing the “Bad” ending. That’s just the kind of person I am. Plus, I have a vague knowledge of how it ends (thanks to accidental spoils on UA-cam).
    Overall, I really liked this game. Not the greatest, but for a Tecmo game, it’s really good.

    • @NeNeiSan
      @NeNeiSan  5 місяців тому +1

      I haven't played any other Koei Tecmo games, so I'm unfamiliar with how SR compares. I do recommend at least doing a NG+ run if you decide to see the other ending. It adds a lot more context to the characters and events of the ritual. The endings are a bit weird when it comes to what type of ending each of them are. I've seen it refered to as a Bad End as it does share some qualities, though personally, I see it more as the True End with how it wraps up the game as a whole. I don't know exactly on what you've been spoiled on, but I understand if you don't want to bother with it.
      It's a lot of fun with some amazing characters!

      @@NeNeiSanpersonally, I feel that the idea of Iori flipping the switch from how he usually is and dying, would be considered the “Bad ending”. That’s just my opinion, and I don’t really like that idea.
      As to how most of Tecmo/Warriors games are; Large maps, with massive hordes of enemies, telling you: wipe out those guys, wipe out those other guys, wipe out this group across the map within this time. And a lot of clunky menu’s for everything that isn’t fighting, rather than some kind of open hub for you to move around in. At least, that’s my experience with them.

      @@anth4584 That's a fair point. It is certainly a bold turn for the story that won't sit right with everyone.
      Might try out a Warriors game at some point. I'm not too familiar with the Musou genre and feel like it could be fun with the how it changes up the style, though I see how it can might get mind numbing/repetitive after a certain amount of time.

      @@NeNeiSan I actually just remembered this, but there is actually two other Musou style games in the Fate franchise; Fate/Extella and Fate/Extella Link. These two are more like the traditional Musou games, but aren’t made by Tecmo. They might be cheap at the moment, they are at least in Australia.

      @@NeNeiSan And just as my final opinion regarding the matter of the “Bad ending”; I feel that if they wrote more dialog choices throughout the story, that could lead into the option of the bad end, I’d feel more accepting of it. I still wouldn’t go through with it, but it would feel more natural than Iroi suddenly going evil at the last minute. To me, it seems more like that ending was an after thought and that’s why it’s locked behind the NG+.
