Certain corsets can be helpful too for people who enjoy alternative styles, like a waspie or underbust one that is short and has some visual design that puts vertical lines on your torso. If you get the colour combos right it can make it look like your torso continues further down your body than it does.

What are other ways you wear belts?
I like chain belts for the same reason you mentioned liking soft belts. Also, many years ago I had a leather belt that was designed to dip down in the front (snapped in the back) which was great on dresses.
