He did not just "space out" he simply got caught off guard, the anime failed to show it correctly, but what actually happend was that the hydra used is stumps to attack whoever was close, it was too fast that Rudeus didn't see it coming even with his eye of foresight and Paul being the closest to him did what every father would have done in that situation for Rudeus.
Yes this exactly. People forget that Rudy is unable to use battle aura to increase speed or strength like most others can in the MT world. There is only so much a human body can do and a limit to how fast they can do it. Battle aura overcomes those limitations, and since Rudy can’t use it, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time so his dad willingly exchanged places with him.
@@dbuy3 It's not that anime-viewers"forgot", it was just never delved into by the anime for some reason I can't think of. I was looking forward to it being explained during one of Rudeus's daily morning training with Badigadi before finding Sylphie's identity, but never happened. It was one of the most important reasons as to why 8:42 happened, and now some viewers are blaming Rudeus because of this lacking information.
The reason Paul got cremated on the spot is because of the incredibly high amount of mana in their surroundings, he would have came back as an undead monster or a zombie pretty much

I'm pretty sure that even if Paul knew what has happened to zenith, he would still consider it worth dying to bring his wife out of the labyrinth and saving the life of his son. He didn't question whether she was alive or dead, he just wanted to get her out of there. So Paul died with a smile on his face, because he had still succeeded.
One thing mushoku tensei is based off the light novels not the manga the manga isn’t made by the author I recommend reading the novels they are so worth it so much depth and way more information remember watching S1 part one and wanting to know more read Volume 1-6 in like 2 days it was so good that I couldn’t stop reading currently it’s been about a year and a half since I finished the whole story as when I read it in 2021 the novels were still being translated to English so I had to wait some time but mushoku tensei solidified itself as my number 1 anime
Paul wasn't strong enough to cut that head (because of the scales) so the one that able to cut the scales was his new Legendary sword. That sword gonna cut harder thing like butter but will be opposite like cut butter like it's some kind of "vibranium" or something. Just trivia that left out in anime. "Happy" father's day...

@@LegionzAnime the novel it self is absolute peak, the anime got to cut off so much scene, cause the story to be rushed so fast to this episode. Rudy suposed to have more time with sylphy before he going to save zenith, and they skip the whole part when rudy and eli in desert. But I glab that they didn't fked up any moment of this episode, that is the only thing I want, Paul's death got the respect as the way it should, Bind studio cooked so hard man. This is no doubt the best anime episode of the year

Rudy did not "space out". What the fcking hydra did was unexpected, it deemed Rudy to be the most threat among them, used its dead neck stumps just to take out Rudy by using it to attack everynone. And we all know Rudy got the foresight, but his body is not capable actually follow through that movement.
I think that’s because he’s a reincarnator. He has experienced a world that is unrelated to fighting monsters. There is a difference between him and the others who have only experienced one life, which naturally progresses from the cradle to the grave. And simply he has less experience fighting menaces because he is strong; in fact, He's the first threat since the matchup with Olstead.Therefore, they can’t change that habit, especially if it’s intuitive, and he was formerly a shut-in.
@@高梨-s2v nope don’t forget he spent most of his years after the Teleport disaster as a Adventurer so he’s use to stuff like this. What I said above is 100% what happened it’s in the LN the Anime just skipped over it as usual to save time.
@@高梨-s2v There's a certain weakness Rudeus has that's been made clear in the Novel that had nothing to do with his mental state or habit anymore during this time. I just can't understand why the anime skipped over "Battle Aura" or "Toki". This was further looked into during Rudy's daily morning training with Badigadi in the academy in the novel, but not in the anime for some reason. Simply put, it's a physical enhancement using mana that is commonly used by almost everyone, but Rudeus seems to have a hard time grasping and applying it to himself. So if you're wondering why Rudeus seem a lot slower or defenseless compared to everyone in this party despite training his body everyday, this is one critical reason. Also the Hydra can strategically think like @The_CodFish69 mentioned, disorganizing the formation and targeting Rudeus specifically.
@@iceberg54321 sure she'll be surrounded by family but she can't function or be with them in their lives. She'll never be able to directly talk or express emotions. She's a prisoner in her own body for the rest of her life. And the only plus is eventually roxies and Rudies one kid will have the ability to directly talk to her. It's like my aunt that just slipped away mentally for 3 years before all the health problems killed her. Her mind was already gone. My aunt was already dead. And her husband had to watch powerless as he lost her. Paul being alive and functional would have been better for the family.

Well, they at least put all the really dark things that happened when Rudy went to save his mom in a different season. This is happy fun times with friends next to that. So you have that to look forward to if you are anime only.

Rudy didn’t freeze up. His foresight eye was overwhelmed, so it wasn’t his fault. The anime didn’t portray this very well.
The manga is alright, but is behind the anime anyway. The LN is really good and I've never been a reader.
One of rudeus bad habit during a fight, he really easy to get scared and when he got scared he will not focus on what he should do.

There is a reason for Paul's cremation. And zenith has all her memories intact. Her condition is very specific and in many ways worse than death.
It isn't a fate worse than death. If she didn't have a loving home surrounded by her children and grandchildren, it might have been.
