First of all, kudos to SumitLife for doing the video. I would have never have figured this out. Regarding putting the handle back on, I don't think it's ever going to happen working just from the outside. I doubt the factory did it that way. Go ahead and substantially release the metal inner door panel BTW, a metal door card. What a concept. Brilliant. Anyway, I took out all but one screw in the upper right hand corner. Then I disconnected the plug at the air bag propellant cylinder. Must admit the old spincter tightened up when I did that but I was 98% sure that wouldn't set it off. Then I pulled the electrical harness and the latch pull rod through the door panel to allow it to pull away from the door some more. It doesn't have to come all the way off. But once you get it mostly out of the way, you can easily reach in to the back side of the door handle. Go ahead and test fit the formed metal plate back plate with the key lock (drivers side only) to see how it fits. There is a white flexible shaft out of the back side of the key lock that must engage a rectangular hole in the latch mechanism. Once you see how the metal plate fits, hook up the wire to the door latch and insert it from the front. When you get it close, you will want to get the threaded latch pull rod loosely installed in the large opening in the plate. Go ahead and engage the two 10mm studs into the metal plate and get everything all lined up. Install the two 10 mm nuts. The last thing is to reach in from the back side, flop the threaded rod into the white plastic thingy, and pull up the black thingy to secure it. It's really pretty easy from the back side. Frankly, if I had known, I would have done all that when I took it apart. One other tense moment was when I did a test on the door closure. The window had cracked open as it should when I pulled the latch but it wouldn't go back closed when I fully closed the door. Crap! Just in case, I went ahead and hooked up all the wires to the inside door panel and loosely hung the inside door panel in place with a couple of screws. Then I got in the car and did a "routine" exit. The window dropped a bit when I opening it and then closed again when I got out and closed the door. Porsche must have some wierd logic in there but suffice it to say, it all worked out well in the end. Final comment. Roll down the window on the passenger side before you ever get started. It is way to easy to accidentally lock yourself out of the car doing all this. Again, great video. Thanks!!!
For anyone attempting to repair or replace their door handle, I'd highly recommend removing the window motor and popping the grommets for the interior door release cable and wires out near the exterior handle. This will allow you to fully remove the sheet metal panel and rotate it down and out of the way (it'll still be held in place by the main harness that passes through it near the door hinge) so you can see what the hell you're doing with the door handle. I was nervous about messing up the window regulator, but it's really easy to get it all back in place. Saved me a lot of frustration!
its taken me a week and a half. i think that was this video today will be a good day. always challenge yourself. this is the hardest car task ive ever encountered. im almost there. :}
My door lock cylinder is stripped. Key just spins. Can you make a video of repairing or disassembling that part? I’m interested to see how the cylinder mechanism is set up. I’ve done these repair with a BMW cylinder repair kit. I can’t find a repair kit for the 2006 Caymans. I was wondering if I can just mold the parts myself from another repair kit instead of paying for a replacement from a dealer or specialist. Thanks for the videos.
Need to ask a question - can the switch be replaced separately.. What is the typical failure of the switch. Wondering if the switch can be lubricated, and or replaced with a similar microswitch.. If you or someone can respond, that would be greatly appreciated.... Love the video - i plan on using it to hopefully fix my door switch... Thanks again.. Alan
DANIAL ZAKI for mine I just bought a Bluetooth stereo streamer, you set a radio frequency them the music comes through the radio. Works okay and was very cheap. Under $20
@@SummitLife yeah i just disconnected the battery so i could remove the airbag loop bar and dropped the metal plate between the door and interior panel so i could see what im doing way easier with tons of room

Yeah you can replace the little switch no problem. Not sure where you would buy a replacement but yeah it just pops off
