Senior Master Tech here (38 yrs exp). I have replaced the batteries and the battery sensors on these vehicles and other Dodge/Chrysler vehicles at least 100 times. You do not need to jack up the car nor do you have to remove the tire IF you turn the tires all the way to the left. You'll have the smaller of the two inner fender wells. You will need an ratchet, long extension (36") and a 10 mm socket in order to remove the battery cable connection from the battery. The long exgtension drops dwon in from of the power distribution box/Fort the postive side of the battery allo you need is a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and 10 mm socket. Then the battery tie down rod needs a 13mm wrench or short walled socket and ratchet to remove the nut and then you work the tie down rod out of its resting place.
My first thought was WHY would ANYONE mount a battery in such a spot? I doubt I could even have found it. Interesting video. You look under the hood of the T-Bird and a modern car ans there is no comparison (you can see an engine in the T-Bird). I worked on Mack trucks, but today I wouldn’t have the patience to repair a lawn mower. Thanks for the information.
Sometimes we pull the bumper cover back if we are looking at corroded terminals to repair during battery replacement on these vehicles. That helps with access. One thing about the dielectric grease ( tune up grease) is that it is not conductive so abit of caution on mating surfaces. Lather it all over the outside though.
Hi John...not sure why some comments get buried, and I have to go looking for lost comments. Thank you John, and I'm sorry for this reply being a month later!
Hello Alvin. Is there limited space in the engine compartment that they needed to put the battery there? If it were my vehicle, it would fail when it's 10 below zero with high winds. lol. No room in my garage to work on daily drivers. George B. in Michigan
Hello George, I'm pretty sure if I couldn't do this job inside at those low temperatures, I would take it to a shop. This one started failing when we hit -40c -40F, my brother in-law did very well at keeping it on a charger until we could get a battery, which was actually hard to come by, it seems certain batteries are hard to get right now...but we found one! 😊 Stay safe and warm George!
I just now changed my battery in my Dodge 2019 Journey SE. It was not fun at all. Push pins sucked. The piece that holds the battery down sucked. Fortunately, I did not remove the wheel, I just turned it all the way to the left.

Sure not like the old days where you could just easily reach under the hood and pop out the old and replace with the new. Thanks for the video!!
Thank you, and yes, a little more involved here than on of the old classics!

I'm with you Stephen on where the battery is mounted on this car, it's not a horrible job to replace, just not as easy as it could have been.

You are correct about the grease, I've never had any trouble with using it this way...but that doesn't make it right! Thanks for the tips Weldon! 😊
Alvin,
Very interesting, my friend. 🥱🥱🥱

John
Hi John,
It's no T-Bird video!! But someone may find it helpful. 😊
I promise, the next video will be all Thunderbird repairs! 😁😁😁
Take care!
Alvin
Enjoy the video. Keep them comming

Whoever designed that must be a politician because its a huge mess :) Good job Alvin.... horrible engineering...
Lol...I'm not going to argue with you on that Ron, it sure could have been designed better!
Thanks Ron!

Yeah, if not the best place for a battery, and at 30 below, it really is almost impossible to change out in the driveway, definitely an indoor job.
