    Hey guys, here's the video to leave a comment on to win the Shure GLXD+ System: ua-cam.com/video/7YU4pirSPoQ/v-deo.htmlsi=W5CRPFSY-tTUTTCh Thanks for putting up with my begging to "check out my music bro" 😅. And please remember, that I will never ever ask you for money. Never. ANYONE asking you for money claiming to be me is a scammer. Period.
    Also, I'm trying some new methods to get people to get to the right product links besides just leaving them in the description. UA-cam added product tagging, and I'm trying the QR codes as well. Do you all find that helpful, annoying, or unnecessary? Thanks again for watching! Let me know which wireless you love as well and which tier they fall into. 🤘

      Hey Scott, your music and review work have both been absolutely wonderful and inspiring. Even when I don't use wireless as much, I still find it useful. I wouldn't bother with anyone who's gonna find a product or affiliate link "annoying", we musicians still need to feed ourselves somehow right? You do what you gotta do and we trust your information and appreciate your work. Rock on!

      the qr codes is helpful, i guess. so people can get the product or preview the product straight from your recomendation while also continue watching your video. in my opinion, it look cool on the video too.
      the wireless i love (which is from the entry level/mid tier category) is shure(ly) GLXD+ it is compact, looks like it build to last, and the detune feature is blowing my mind.

      @@ScottUhlMusicAye Scott! I'm new to this but was wondering if i buy a Phenyx iem, a nux or xvive wireless system, and say a bunch of the cheap wireless ones from amazon to use on modelers and monitors would that work or do they have to be the same brands?

      @@ScottUhlMusic there is nothing wrong with 2.4 ghz. it has longer range, better when there is no line of sight, and the 5.8ghz is getting more crowded with wifi. the benefit of 5.8ghz is that it carries more data, but has a more limited range. you don't need that kind of data rate for audio.

    Great info! I found your channel while researching wireless systems for my church. I've watched a lot of them and I'velearnedso much. You do a great job in preparing and presenting a lot of information. Thank you!
    I do have a couple questions.
    1 - Regarding bands. If i want to get a system that has different bands but I *might* want to expand later, should I (could I) get receivers in separate bands considering available freq ranges in my area?
    2 - Have you reviewed the Audio Technica System 10 Pro? They have a lot of features packed into one package. Too good to be true? Limited channel availability seems to be one negative.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  3 місяці тому

      Thanks! Glad you’ve enjoyed the channel
      1) you can get ones in separate bands, yes. You just won’t be able to utilize groups/banks as well with separate bands, which isn’t a huge deal
      2) I’ve looked into those, but they are on 2.4Ghz which I tend to avoid with higher end/more expensive products

    Once again, another killer breakdown. Thank you for turning me onto this video. It really helped expand my knowledge. one thing Im not clear on is if I’m only using two single mic higher end quality units will an antenna combiner be necessary to keep from the two conflicting? So I absolutely have to move them far away from each other? At what point are antenna combiners necessary?THANKS!

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  9 місяців тому

      Thanks! I usually say it’s worth combining at 4 in a rack. So up to 4 you should be fine in most situations. It’s just best practice, but not required.

    Well, I totally agree regarding the Audio Technica IEM. I've been using it for the past few months and i quite like the sound of it. It really eats through the batteries though. I have a bit of obsession for in ear systems and tried a lot of them. The absolute winner for me is the AKG IVM - sadly it has been discontinued. I didn't like the sound of the sennheiser, od the psm 900. Haven't had the opportunity to try out the psm 1000 but if the sound quality is the same as the psm 900 I'm really not interested. The psm 300 sounds quite a lot better than the psm 900. If someone has a recommendation for a great sounding wireless iem system for me to try out please reply to this comment.

    I've got a 3 mic (or lapel) Sennheiser wireless system that I built with old G2 True Diversity receivers and an Antenna combiner. I either use the Licence exempt frequencies (863.100 MHz to 864.900 MHz) or the Duplex Gap frequencies (823 MHz to 832 MHz).
    It's not got a wide range of frequencies to use, but it is still a Pro grade system and has amazing sound and reliability.
    For IEM's I mainly use Wire in ears, but I do have a Gearformusic IEM (863.100 MHz to 864.900 MHz) and plan on getting 2 XVive U4 systems for 2 singers (or front of stage)
    For musicians I mainly use DI boxes and Wired instruments, but I'm thinking of getting 2 XVive U2's for guitars (or musicians up front).
    I have used the full range of all the gear mentioned here, and you can't go wrong with the ULXD or Sennheiser EW300 (or EW500 for microphones) systems, they are very reliable if you have the budget for it (it's why I bought cheap, used, limited gear that's reliable over new stuff that's maybe not as quality or reliable)

  • @browsif
    @browsif 11 місяців тому +1

    Love the channel, deffo 1 of my 'go to' channels for this techy gear stuff! I'm a sponge for information, so i just sit and watch and read as much as I can to learn and I find your videos really informative and easy to digest.
    Ive got massive OCD when it comes to audio, so even though im only in a bar and function/wedding band, I find myself going for the Pro Level in your video just for the reliability.
    A year ago I upgraded my 2.4ghz Line6 G70/G75 wireless to a Sennheiser EW-D and now I'm looking to go for a wireless vocal mic too, so (mainly) because of your videos it'll either be a Shure SLXD or a 2nd Sennheiser EWD.
    Thanks again for the great content.

      @ScottUhlMusic  11 місяців тому +1

      I do also like the look of the EV RE3 you reviewed a while ago, but not sure what it brings to the table that the SLXD or EWD don't tbh, so not sure whether to bother pricing that 1 up or not 😆

    thanks for all of the information...just subscribed. I do the A/V work for the US Space Force, but was looking for your recommendations for my personal setup. At work we use Sennheiser 6000's. Those are great. Very pricey. about 30k for a 4 channel setup. For at home...I have a sennheiser G3 and was looking for a G4 mic. Interesting information about the Phoenix Pro series. I bought one of those, but returned it because it wasn't great even within 20 feet. Although that was just a 100$ system. I'll probably just go with another sennheiser mic. Yeah, look at the RF meter. If your transmitter is off, and the receiver is still seeing a bit of RF, that means that that signal is getting signal from somewhere else. Change to another channel that has no (or sometimes just less) RF signal 🤘

    Thanks a lot, Scott! In the near future I am planning to build a rack with mixer and IEMs, so this video is very helpful. ATW-3255 is hard to find in Europe, unfortunately.
    Can you make a video about latency with wireless gear? Wireless digital guitar transmitter (5ms) + digital processing (QC/Fractal/Helix/etc) (around 3ms) + digital mixer (sub 1ms) -> IEM (5ms). If all digital, then total roundtrip time is around 15ms, and that could be too much for some people. If wireless gear is analog, then latency is near 0ms (plus digital pedalboard+digital mixer). Numbers are not exact, of course, and depends on a particular model, quality (2.5ms in best performance mode, but 8.7ms in Safety mode, more reliable one - NUX B-8). Digital processing could also be more than 3 ms (if many effects are used at once) etc. I would like to hear your thoughts on that subject.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! And none of those are able to be heard by the human ear. Latency only becomes a problem with compounded latency with a lot of wireless all stacked on top of each other

    Hey Scott, if you haven't already could you make a short video on how to save and load shows using the X Air app and the difference between shows vs scenes. I'm using the XR 16 Thanks

      I use the snapshots personally. Just get your settings to where you want them to be, and then save a snapshot and you can reload it at any time

    Hi, thanks for all the explanations you did in the video. What i m still wondering is: If all members of the band want to use a wireless IEM system: Is it more convenient to buy them with frequency ranges that are on a different frequency spot or should we all buy the IEM with the frequency range in the same frequency spot? For example all IEMs systems at 500 to 530 mHz or is it better to have one at 500-530 the second one at 530- 560 the third one 560-590 etc... Hope you get what i mean :)
    Thanks!

    • @ScottUhlMusic

      It can depend… but having different ranges/bands can be helpful imo for the most part. I think that’s a good way to do it

    Hi Scott! Another great informative video. Using a variety of the cheaper wireless devices for bass. Others in the band have also since jumped on the wireless bandwagon, but everyone else bought 2.4GHz devices (no consultation between them prior to purchase). So my original 2.4 GHz devices all stay home. Carry a couple of UHF and 5.8GHz devices. I rarely have any issues with interference. Quick question, I do have the Lekato UHF devices. I pair them, use for a set, turn them off, and then when I turn them on for the next set they won’t connect. Take them back home, recharge them, pair them again, and the cycle begins all over again. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Sennheiser now has digital as well. EW-D at the same price level as the EW-100, and EW-DX that competes with ULX-D (same 4 in 1 RU) but at a much better price.

    It is so difficult for me to buy a "good" wireless system. A few years back, I bought a Carvin expandable system that was supposed to be able to rum up to 8 devices. I bought the 1st body pack and receiver, with the insert card. Body packs came with XLR or 1/4 in jack, so you could use any mic or guitar. (Passive and active). 2 days after I ordered it, Carvin announced they were going out of business. Of course mine didn't work and they would not do any exchanges or refunds, telling me that all sales were final. I told them I bought it before they closed, but had not received it until later. I had to finance this and wound up paying for something I can not use.

    We use the XVive U4 IEM system with our band and for the most part they work great. The only time where we've has an issue is playing in casinos where the 2.4GHZ spectrum is saturated.

    Hi Scott, I took you advice from this or another one of your videos and bought the Swiff WH-50 UHF and it's been great, been using it for the past 2 or 3 months, but it does have a noticeable tone loss specially highs, can you or anyone recommend another one of those cheap ones that has less tone loss ??

      That’s part of the risk with cheap stuff tbh. I suggest Shure/sennheiser if the cheap wireless tone bothers you 👍

    great info Scott. My wife has a BLX4 wireless mic and we wanted to buy a PSM 300 in-ear. How do you connect the psm300 to the blx4 so she can hear herself sing, then also send vocals out to the amplifier? Hope this makes sense. Just trying to get her setup correctly

    Thanks for the review! I want to invest in my first IEM system - should I spend money on a mono-only system like the ptm 33 with 4 receivers right out the gate (and then upgrade to a stereo system later), or should I start and keep a stereo system like the PTM 10 and then get 4 belt pack receivers with that? Thanks!

  • @JamieC-Music

    Again Scott, thanks so much for taking the time putting these together. I can imagine all the research to put this together. I’m trying to upgrade and get rid of all my 2.4hz I have a great wireless Sennhiezer EW500/945 mic. In-ears Shure PSM 900. But Guitar is line 6 G55 relay. I’d like to change to a better 5G wireless. A couple a questions. Do you think it’s fine having the In ear , guitar and mic wireless all in one small personal rack. (Antennas to close). I play in various bands and from solo to full band and like to bring my gear. Also, I noticed you said you moved to the Shure SLX-D. Did you mean you can use both a wireless guitar transmitter and wireless mic transmitter to same receiver? I was having difficulty finding anything on Shure about that. It seemed one or the other. Although I love the Sennheizer e945 mic. I’m wondering if a system that can do both guitar and mic with one set of antennas is the way to go. And also….obviously interested in entering the draw for wireless. Thank you Scott.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  11 місяців тому

      Thanks! Glad you like the videos! In general 3 in a rack is usually fine. And my Shure slxd is the DUAL one, so there are two receivers built into 1U of rack space. I use one for guitar and one for vocals.
      And 2.4ghz isn’t awful, especially if you are only using 1. Plus if it’s working for you, that’s also important! But upgrading will definitely be much more reliable

    I wonder if there is anything high quality but with a smaller footprint. I would love something like the Lekato 5.8 for mics but on the high end. I've checked a sennheisser one, but's 2.4, and also checked a saramonic one but can only do three systems at a time

      ua-cam.com/video/SayuGAKFCw4/v-deo.html
      It’s a good system for sure. But it divides up the frequency range into 4 sections…. So I would recommend getting 2 PTM 10s with 4 receivers instead and use the trick of 2 mono mixes per each transmitter

    Thank you

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  10 місяців тому

      Thanks! I would look at mid tiers to high tier. Those audio technica ones are incredible. If everyone needs stereo and wireless, you’ll need 5…. If you can do mono, and 4 members are wireless and 1 member such as a drummer can be wired, then you can get 2 transmitters and 4 receivers and then one wired solution for your drummer. That would be my recommendation. If you are looking to save money, phenyx pro PTM 10 is solid like I go over in the video
