Splendid ! My father flew the C-47 from Belgium to the Belgian Congo in the 1950s. I flew 750 hours in my Ultralight Kitfox III taildragger airplane in Norway. Now, at 75, I try to retrace the flights from my father, on the MSFS DC-3. Your video has learned me a lot of things, thank you so much. But I still have problems to keep this bird straight on take-off and landing ! My father must have been better than me ! ;-)
I flew 1,600 hours in the DC-3 nearly all with Wright Cyclone R 1820 9 cylinder engines with 24 hours with the Pratts. R 1830 ( almost the same to operate). Taxing is an art form - to turn unlock the Tail Lock , add power to the out side engine & apply some brake to the inside of the turn - half way through the turn idle on the outside & stop the turn with some power on the inside - tail lock back in. You did a good job BTW

Thank you Willy. I got my teaching certificate through Harvard/Bok and my experience in my career as a Microsoft Certified Trainer. It helped that my wife was an elementary school teacher so good examples of teaching were all around me. Now I apply that to my love for all things aviation. Thanks for your feedback. I can never get this aircraft to track down the runway after landing and nothing I do can stop the tail from swing wherever it wants to. Every landing ends up with the aircraft running off the runway whether the tailwheel is locked or not.
@harisguhdija9734 Just this weekend, I did some practice and was finally able to get it to stay straight. Even in a crosswind. Yes, power and very little rudder movement. I was kicking the rudder too much.

Great Job, i wish all Learn to fly tutorials where like this, and I had to learn the hard way to fly this amazing plane before I found this video. I had no idea the manual came with the plane and that it was hidden in the official package folder of the plane. Have you considered doing a DC-6 version next.

It is such a dream to fly these engineering marvels in the sim. We couldn’t touch them otherwise. Working on a helicopter series for twitch right now which will become YT videos. I’ll start thinking about the DC6 next.
Outstanding tutorial. I'll be following your steps from the same airport. This will be my next step up from the C172 in MSFS! Just had a question. Why are the fuel booster pumps ON on takeoff and touchdown but OFF during cruise? Did I get that right?
You got it right. I could look deeper into the POH for the DC3 and look at the fuel diagrams, but generally, we turn on fuel pumps for takeoff and landing in many planes as a safety net, just in case there is a fuel issue during those two times of very low to the ground and very slow. An engine failure would be catastrophic. During flight the engines have fuel pumps, just like many cars and even if you have a fuel pump failure in flight, you can switch on the fuel pump to override it. In real planes it's a safety thing, redundant thing, like having two engines when you can safely operate on one.
Today, (Over the past 3 decades really), there's a turboprop version also. Doesn't the tailwheel lock, lock the tail wheel to the rudder? And by doing this, you can control the plane's direction by actually steering the aircraft with the rudder pedals. 'Unlocked,' allows the tailwheel to be turned with engine power, for those 180 degree turns, that the rudder just can't do.
Still working on this video but great teaching so far. Problem with improvement mod, when installed I lose Condition levers on the Bravo, they work on mouse but not on Bravo. when uninstall all is fine any idea?

It's not a mod. This product comes with the 40th anniversary edition (free update) from Microsoft. There are two mods you can add if you wish. The GotFriends expansion pack (for the Beaver and DC3/C-47) and the Duckworths flight model mod. Your start process is all wrong. You need 1.Fuel 2.Air 3. Spark 1. external battery on. position lights on 2. left and right tank set (fuel) and boost pumps on to start 3. Cowl flaps open (air) 4. Propeller condition levers fully forward, 5. Throttle open 1inch or 15% 6. Red Mixture Condition levers off or back 7. Master ignition switch on (pushed in) Energize switch ON to right engine FIRST as when started drives battery (down) count to 8-10 (props turn to make sure there is no hydraulic lock in the cylinder). 8. Mesh switch to right engine (down) 9.Right magneto switch fully turn on.(spark) 10. Right prime switch on (fuel). Note: When you hit the prime switch for either engine on startup the red mixture condition lever automatically moves to Auto rich. 11. Ground power Off, 12. Inverter switch On. 13. Battery switch On. Rinse and repeat for Left. NOTE: You dont have to keep repeat pushing the prime switch, that is incorrect, just do it once after magneto on step 10. If you havent got fuel, air, or spark set, it wont start. duckworks mod start is slightly different

I can never get this aircraft to track down the runway after landing and nothing I do can stop the tail from swing wherever it wants to. Every landing ends up with the aircraft running off the runway whether the tailwheel is locked or not.
Think you need speed and power over the tail. Jonathan Beckett has a video on it.

The Tailwheel Lock doesn't lock the tailwheel to the rudder. When locked, it allows the plane to roll straight ahead, independent of the rudder.

Did you disconnect ground power before starting the left engine?

No improvement mods. They weren't out yet. This product was included in the 40th anniversary update.
