    I made a big mistake in this video. In the poh the speeds are listed as KIAS and on the speed dial in the aircraft is in MPH so make sure to adjust for that .

    I flew 1,600 hours in DC3/C47's over 6 years & firstly this msfs Aircraft is treated way to complicated including the Cockpit provided. ( It flew like a big docile Cessna)
    Secondly YOU have done by far the best UA-cam video so far, well done!
    Now my notes:
    * The gear handle was like a tap for up & down & would be neutral otherwise as the gear horn switch was under it - it was locked with the small handle.
    * We never opened the Storm Windows & used chewing gum to stop them leaking.
    * The Blue Hydraulic lever had to be forward for the old Sperry Autopilot to work.
    * Starting procedure - I have never seen an Inertia starter - all I saw were Electric & with them you never turned on Ignition till 9 blades & mixture after start. ( Watch the old Radials on UA-cam)
    * Taxing - Tail Lock in at all times except turning - lock out, outside Engine plus brakes & halfway through the turn outside engine off & inside to stop the turn.
    * NO flaps for take-offs- there split flaps & only give drag.
    * The levers on the left on all DC3's I flew were Oil Shutters & used to get the oil temp up to minimum.
    * Nothing over 85 kts (mph?) On final approach & on landing it made the most magnificent screech from the tyres on a good one - slight forward stick if it looks like bouncing.
    Finally - don't make it complicated as it was docile & fun to fly unless you were in Thunderstorm & going down with METO Power near the LSA!
    * For take-offs Fire Hatch open & closed after T/o - V2 82 kts safety speed (mph?)

      I & 4 others stepped out of single engine DH82 Tiger Moth biplanes & Cessnas etc having never flown twins, Constant Pitch props or Retractable Gear & 10 hours night flying into the DC3,
      * All except one DC3 Had Wright 9 cylinder Cyclone Engines (Same as the B17) & the C47 had 14 Cylinder Pratts - they were the same to operate. (These engines used 1 to 2 Gallons of oil per hour BTW)
      * Both engines were Supercharged but without any High Blower & as for the Cowl Flaps all DC3's in civil use in Australia had fixed Cowl Flaps.
      * The 4 of us trainees spent 1.5 hours together learning hour to taxi before we ever flew it.
      * If you want a real DC3 experience get rid of all the modern crap including the ILS as a VOR & Localiser approach or ADF was all we had - the Auto Pilot was the original Sperry hydraulic operated hence the "Blue" lever sent the left engine hydraulics to the Auto Pilot.

    Just flew the DC-3 after the latest update and the engine performance has improved. What a difference! I did lose some power and altitude when the gear came down but it's much better. Takeoff much easier although different, the weight balance was off which I corrected. Love this plane. Another video on this would be great. I don't understand the blowers and I can't read the dial that goes with the decision height indicator. Thank you for your time in making this video.

    Great video. One of my favorite planes although its a challenge to fly especially after takeoff. Experienced many crashes as it can stall easily. I've learned to bring the nose down until you build up speed. I do use the mod. Also, the weight balance is off so I correct it before takeoff. The smoke affect upon engine startup is in the default plane too. Also, you can lock and unlock the tailwheel which is located way down below. I bind my velocityone for that. I also find the plane suffers too much drag when you drop the gear and it sometimes can't hold it's altitude even in autopilot is on. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. But all in all, it's so fun to fly. Your video was very informative.

    • @2020fsers
      @2020fsers  Рік тому

    Great video. One big issue though with that POH you're using is it references KIAH while the DC3 uses MPH on the airspeed indicator. So you're way off on speeds on your flight. Example, your climb speed of 115KIAS is 135mph, so you were way way slow on your climb out.

    Terrific, comprehensive video. Thanks. Two questions: 1) I heard you're using a Bravo Throttle Quadrant. I can use all the Auto Pilot controls on my Bravo except Vertical Speed increase and decrease. Do you have that issue? Do you know how I can get this working? It's all mapped correctly. 2) Do you lock the tailwheel for takeoff and landing?

    • @2020fsers
      @2020fsers  Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment ... I use spad for my bindings and I am using the kap140 Binding for the up and down buttons to use vertical speed. I do not lock the tailwheel but the proper procedure is to lock the tail wheel once lined up for takeoff then you need to get the tail up quickly so that you can turn for any corrections. Landing I also do not lock the tailwheel .
