  • What’s in this (Mold Casting & Painting) Series which is found on my homepage?
Welcome to this simple but fun series of playlists from ByerlyStudios. In these short length videos my daughter and I will be casting items of all shapes and sizes with (Plaster of Paris), Airdry Clay, Oven-bake Clay, UV resin and Two-part resin. We will then use a wide range of mediums to have fun designing fun builds (all in a manageable length clips).
    What’s in this playlist?
This playlist consists of us using (Plaster of Paris) to cast mini skulls from Amazon purchase silicone mold.
Then once cured we will have fun making all sorts of fun artistic designs with these skulls. Whether it’s paint, glitter, resin, rocks, gems, shells, candles or anything else; we’re just here to have fun creating in the studio.

Works great if you tap the sides all around the mold with a spoon while pouring. Will make the air pockets rise up to the top.

It seems that you shook the left one a bit more. Maybe that's why it was bubble free(?)
    They look amazing! ❤

Very likely, this was the first time I used plaster. I did use plaster with I casted the Baby Ultrasound project. But I plan to make some more soon and continue the series with different variations. I think that having it slightly more liquid consistency and using a small orbital sander to vibrate the sides really helps a lot.

I paint plaster of paris often...it takes a few coats, I use acrylic paints and make different fake foods w it, like cones for Ice Cream cones and the sandwich part of an ice cream sandwich, lol! I do add a little mod podge to my acrylic paint, gloss mod podge, just to give it a little tiny shine so its not so dull and to protect it a little bit. I dont like how it looks doing a finish coat of MP on its own and it can tend to make it a bit tacky, so I find mixing it in with my paint works perfect

Love it, MP also can really extend an expensive bottle of paint out a bit. I like plaster of Paris really because it’s very porous and takes paint better. It’s such a cheaper way to cast compared to a Smooth-casting resin. I’m not knocking casting resin, I use it often. But it’s hard to beat 3 dollars for 2 lbs of plaster.
