I was lucky enough to meet Dime and the band when they were doing a warm up tour just before the release of Cowboys From Hell. The CD was done just not released yet. Such cool guys, just after that they became HUGE!!!
If you ever need proof that two thirds of tone is to do with the player: Dime picks up a guitar he never plays, plugs into someone else's amp, and it instantly sounds like his sound.
If those are signature duncan pickups then they are pretty good. But I do agree, the player is obviously what makes the noise. Guitars certainly dont play them selves. I will say though that Dime was exceptional. Ive played for 15 yrs and am ok as far as improvising goes but my hands cant move like his nor do I know where to go all the time. The guitar became and extension of himself and not every player reaches that level nor could they, especially in the time frame that he did.
