He does sprinkle in the Technics while he's going through it but now I see those how are are just Expressions to the name of the feeling or technique that would otherwise would be impossible to explain without someone showing and literally breaking it down with an explanation you can connect with keep it up dude
ik you’re “advanced” and all but just something to think about, dime and all of these players were once too. they ended up changing the game with no formal teacher books whatever the case. it really is possible if you set your mind to it. use your ears and don’t just trust a video online out of convenience, actually put in the effort yourself if you want to be an actual awesome player rather than just some arbitrary tier level. you will make your own style instead of copying what’s already been done. it’s redundant. better you try to learn and internalize yourself than being spoon fed the rest of your musical journey. best of luck to you in future and get your fingers back on those strings🤘
I love all things that are Dimebag related! In my opinion, he still stands as the greatest metal guitarist of all time!! Thank you for sharing some of his techniques. RIP Brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott. ❤ RE-SPECT 👊
So for anyone wanting to know the squeal dimebag doesn't pick the string he just flicks it with his fretting hand and dives and activates the harmonic and then pull, it's the same sound as what Tyler is doing but it's a little faster to do it personally.
I’d love to see a Habits video in Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth. I feel he has a super unique voice when he plays his lead lines, to the point where I think one could easily distinguish one of his solos from anyone else’s.
My first club sized metal show (I has seen Metallica in a stadium) was Damageplan in May 2004. I was 15. I still remember it vividly, Dime chucked some picks into the crowd and I caught one. Still have it in my pick tin.
Great lesson, man. The Dime-ish riff you came up with at the end sounded more like Megadeth to me haha. Mustaine uses similar power chords (and is my favorite guitarist). I love your videos. Subscribed!
Upstrokes. That's one thing I've learned from watching him is a lot of his bends he plays with upstrokes. That's why a lot of people don't sound right playing walk
been playing guitar for 4 months now, i have a basic strat but i force it to sound as distorted as possible so i can do pinch harmonics every note i play, probably the most songs i learned was from pantera, i love dimebag hes a huge inspiration
I have to correct tyler at the Dimebag Divebomb Technice. It's not 1 Pick Attack for the Divebomb it's 0 Pick Attack because dime Flick the String he wants to activate harmonic on and Bring the Whammy Bar down and when he activate the Harmonic he brings the Whammy Bar up. So he don't even pick in the beginning of the Divebomb he just flicks the g string or what ever like a pull of and the he activates the Harmonic
4:21 - 'flick the G string'. He did that with a plug off from the fretting (left) hand... not the pick. This allowed him to keep the bar and his right hand around the back of the guitar throughout multiple squeals on different harmonics... Just sayin! :)
Tyler you do a lot of good habits videos but you missed the symmetrical shapes he was inspired from EVH like he uses a half diminished run in the Domination solo to tip off he used Phrygian Dominant here and there
I want to drop a comment on something you didn't mention about Pantera's albums that I believe it's also one of the reasons why it makes us feel Pantera so unique and powerful , that is, the drums, bass, vocals and solo guitar are most of the times on the centre while the the guitar riffs are spread surgically on the stereo field, and that's why I think it makes it so huge. In Vulgar Display of Power, "A New Level", "Walk", "Fucking Hostile" and "Rise" are such monumental tunes, that in my opinion is also due to this mixing technique. Love your channel keep it up :)
Actually, Dime did not use his pick at all for the harmonic squeel. He used his fretting fingers to flick the string, then quickly touching the string with the same finger to get the harmonic. He did not actually pic the first note.
@Starkill3r - Dimebag used the flag more for heritage, he's given Scott Ian a Star of David Guitar for his Jewish Heritage. I have also never heard of one story where Dimebag was rude or hateful towards anyone, minorities or not. If he really was what you say he was, there would be stories about it. Do I agree with his use of the flag? No, I'm a minority myself so it's a little awkward. Do I think that you are being really extra when you say he hated minorities? Definitely. Him and brothers were known to have hearts of gold, everyone in the metal community agrees on that, even people outside of the Metal community as well. Edit: I will also say, considering he was a White Trash Texan(Dimebag called himself White trash), he turned out as good as you can hope if you ask me.
Great video man gonna check out your other vids of this....I didn't even know you did these as I'm more of a recent sub ......caught my eye being a guitar player of 15 years myself
How could you miss, that Dimebag use too write an article for GuitarWorld that clearly demonstrated that he flicked the string with the middle finger of his left fretting hand, and tapped the harmonic with his thumb (same hand.) We all knew this back in the day by stopping and rewinding the video tape. you have to do a revised video man. You’re wrong with this lesson.
I learned to do those tap-on slide from a book I got in the ‘90s that focused solo on guitar “tricks,” long before I ever heard of Pantera. In fact a lot of these tricks are in that book. I used the tap-on slides in one solo & that is it. I haven’t used it again. I cannot find a phrasing with which it would “fit.”
You didnt mention one of his biggest traits. His legato. I remember an interview where he says something along the lines of. "for every one note i pick i hit about 10 notes with my fingers". He wasnt a right hand shredder when it came to solos. His left hand did most of work. He had fast, accurate fingers while his right hand just did minimal picking and worked the bar

ik you’re “advanced” and all but just something to think about, dime and all of these players were once too. they ended up changing the game with no formal teacher books whatever the case. it really is possible if you set your mind to it. use your ears and don’t just trust a video online out of convenience, actually put in the effort yourself if you want to be an actual awesome player rather than just some arbitrary tier level. you will make your own style instead of copying what’s already been done. it’s redundant. better you try to learn and internalize yourself than being spoon fed the rest of your musical journey. best of luck to you in future and get your fingers back on those strings🤘
Can you do habbits of Gary Moore please
Bloucker yes
Please yes...Gary Moore.
That would be awesome.
yes!!!!!!
yes!!!!!!
Can't believe I missed this video when it came out. Stellar as always. Dime was, and still is my favorite guitarist of all time.
"The face is not required, but it can be helpful". Sums it up perfectly 😂
Dime used unique tuning of 1/4 below, when in E standard, D standard, and so on always 1/4 below. I think that really gave him a cool sound
Dave mustaine used it too
My first club sized metal show (I has seen Metallica in a stadium) was Damageplan in May 2004. I was 15. I still remember it vividly, Dime chucked some picks into the crowd and I caught one. Still have it in my pick tin.
everybody thinks Dime just scooped his mids but what he actually did was scoop out the mids on his amp but actually boost his mids with a pedal EQ
Nice job on Dimebag's styles and techniques. Thanks.
Win indeed. This is very possibly the greatest UA-cam video ever. Thank you so much.
This was awesome! You NEED to do a "Habits of Randy Rhoads" Video! PLEASEEE!!!
Habits of varg vikernes😀 just kidding. Let's find out!
Murder
Eat crunchy cornflakes
Taekwondo in the wood
Hail Odin
Killing your friend and bandmate in your overrated Black Metal band.
Habits of Zakk Wylde!!!
15 minutes of pinch harmonics ?
It'd basically be "Habits of Dimebag Darrell" with less melody.
Pentatonic wah and drinking
I don't think the host of this channel has the physical ability. Zakk's stuff physically hurts.
Jace Thornton You forgot the chorus. I love the way he uses chorus in his solos, it makes them sound much richer and thick.
Thank you!! I really enjoyed getting into the music theory you laid out. Helped me a lot!!
Great lesson, man. The Dime-ish riff you came up with at the end sounded more like Megadeth to me haha. Mustaine uses similar power chords (and is my favorite guitarist). I love your videos. Subscribed!
Habits of Alex Lifeson, that would be awesome man!
How about the 100x more awaited habits of Chuck Schuldiner.
You could of atleast used a dean or washburn guitar
I don't think he has one, probably not a fan of that brand. He's big into PRS.
He can buy one. He is veeeeery rich
@Nate420 sucks You are right. But facts are facts.
Habits of Jason Becker or Marty Friedman would be awesome!!
4:21 - 'flick the G string'. He did that with a plug off from the fretting (left) hand... not the pick. This allowed him to keep the bar and his right hand around the back of the guitar throughout multiple squeals on different harmonics... Just sayin! :)
It’s finally here. I love you Tyler
When you do the dimebag squeal you don’t pick the string you flick the string with your fretting hand 🤙🏻
Tyler you do a lot of good habits videos but you missed the symmetrical shapes he was inspired from EVH like he uses a half diminished run in the Domination solo to tip off he used Phrygian Dominant here and there
Yup he also missed how he did harmonics.
Not how dime did harmonics at all he didn’t hit the string with his pick. He flicked w his fretting hand and caught the squeal on the way up
Me: *died and went to heaven* wow! pinch me if im dreaming!
DimeBag: *hits sick fukin pinch harmonic*
I want to drop a comment on something you didn't mention about Pantera's albums that I believe it's also one of the reasons why it makes us feel Pantera so unique and powerful , that is, the drums, bass, vocals and solo guitar are most of the times on the centre while the the guitar riffs are spread surgically on the stereo field, and that's why I think it makes it so huge.
In Vulgar Display of Power, "A New Level", "Walk", "Fucking Hostile" and "Rise" are such monumental tunes, that in my opinion is also due to this mixing technique.
Love your channel keep it up :)
its funny cause you're a CLASSY guy and i cant, just cant associate dimebag with your image lol. Nice vid man
Look, I know guitarists in heavy metal bands pretty well, and I´m actually not fully convinced that the man in the video is Dimebag Darrell.
Actually, Dime did not use his pick at all for the harmonic squeel. He used his fretting fingers to flick the string, then quickly touching the string with the same finger to get the harmonic. He did not actually pic the first note.
Habits of Dimebag Darrel are shred, make pinch harmonics so good it makes you open your mouth, and generally being awesome
Starkill3r - ?
Starkill3r - you're being ignorant. Do some research on Dimebag and his brother and you'll find that they were nothing like you assume.
@Starkill3r - you are mindblowingly stupid
@Starkill3r - Why do you go around writing bullshit about Dime?
The Live 101 Proof album sealed the deal on Dimebag being that unique, untouchable legend that he is.
I'm not the biggest Pantera fan but Dime was just Amazing.
Great video!Waiting for Habits of Eric Clapton
this was fun and cool to watch. thank you Tyler!!!!!
I think that habits of jerry cantrell would be awesome
No offense to tyler, but to play likr jerry you have to be a complete badass and tyler dont cut that badassery level
Tyler seriously how many times you had to tune your guitar during this video
None. Floyd Rose.
Kanha Tiwari It’s called locking tuners
*insert name here* Locking nut. Locking tuners are something different.
You need to do JERRY CANTRELL!!! Next
Absolutely love habits of videos.. we can tell u put alot of work and knowledge into the videos tyler.. keep up the good work!
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing!
Just be a legend
Please make a habit video for yngwie
Julian Ring Play fast in harmonic and melodic minor. There ya go.
Melodic minor arpeggios. Done.
Fuck no! Hes sucks
Arpeggios From Hell. Yeah, it's just fast playing ... /sarcasm
Want a donut?
Do habits of Jeff hanneman, Dave mustaine, or yngwie
You didnt mention one of his biggest traits. His legato. I remember an interview where he says something along the lines of. "for every one note i pick i hit about 10 notes with my fingers". He wasnt a right hand shredder when it came to solos. His left hand did most of work. He had fast, accurate fingers while his right hand just did minimal picking and worked the bar
Playing along with the flat 5 pentatonic scale on bass, v satisfying. Dimebag timing was so exact but didn't makre him sound robotic at all
DIMEBAG Darrell the best guitarist ever 1000% R.I.P ABBOTT BROTHERS
Habits of Govan or Zappa or Loomis?
Zappa
Loomis please
Zappa
Please
@@milotimberlake2047 Zappa might be out of a scope.
