Daunting task well accomplished. To give all your followers and subscribers an idea of what it takes to this job, my Volvo Certified mechanic with over 30 years of experience (ONLY VOLVOS), takes a full day to do this job. (He has all the tools and equipment to work on these cars). That time frame is with constant attention to the vehicle without interruptions. Great job! BTW, to do this same motor fan replacement on a 740 or 940 it only takes 30 min. LOL
I've done this work at least 4 times and it gets much easier after doing it a few times but yes it still takes a whole day to do it properly. In fact I prefer to take 2 days so I can take the opportunity to do other repairs and inspections while the dash is out. This also gives me time to review the work in my mind before putting everything back together the next day.
Keep 'er goin man. Definitely worthy of your time. It's good to see the next generation taking an interest in these vehicles. Hopefully they will be on the road for many more years to come.
i don't know if this works but I'm gonna try to just add the blower motor onto another switch and just force it to spin off a lipo battery. just so it can pass inspection. great vid
Awesome project to tackle! The heater core will need to be done at some point. I would have changed it while it was so exposed. Opportunity.... I hope yours was found leak-free .
Oh man, hat off! Congrats on doing this job! I have the same issue with mine but I'll never fix it, it is decided! Isn't there a nasty an effective way of doing this just putting a hole to the side of the center console? The reason I'm not doing this is because my car is almost noise free, and I'm scare of breaking too many plastic things while doing this job. Thanks for sharing the video! Regards, Nacho.
Get all of your negative leads pull all of the fuses out of the socket take a little wire brush and clean the connectors then replace all of the fuses and that car should run like a champ
Good job. That job sucks. I know because I have done it. Congrats on getting a sweet 240. The noise could be leaves stuck inside the heater box on the intake side.
@@serg2057 I honestly have no idea... it just went away one day so I think one of the plastic fans was rubbing and it just ground down enough or something to not make the noise.
qq - My car blows hot air, the fan works in all 4 positions. So my question is, does that mean that my blower works as well? I don't think so because I don't have A/C and I was told by the previous owner (a good friend of mine) that the AC issue was the blower but double checking just in case. Thanks!
The blower motor replaced in the video strictly blows air. In the 240s heat is pulled from the headers and to my understanding the AC condenser is just like any other car… that might be your issue! Thanks for the support 👍
I had an 1981 Volvo 240 GL that I changed the dashboard due to it being cracked, plus I got to reinstall some things thatxweren*t working, how I misscthat car, it is easy to do and only 2hours max. Approx.
Hey man listen I want you to do me a favor and check all of your negative connections up under the hood of the car that leads back to a lot of electrical problems on those cars okay clean those negative connections there's one behind the battery there's one on the passenger side up on the firewall clean that stuff take a wire brush and clean it and then put Dielectric grease and you won't have any of those problems anymore and I don't think that that heater just stopped working I think It All Leads back to the negative leads
The 1987 models did not have that problem s much as the 1990s on up the problems that they had for negative connectivity but the negative wire from the battery and back of the battery stuff like that if I were you I would do somewhere where they clean the cars and thebay you some engine Degreaser planer clean that engine down remove the battery cables first so you don't short out the alternator try to take a plastic bag and cover up the alternator before you start cleaning the engine bay give that engine bay a good cleaning cleaning negative connection including the battery cable
No, this is not the way to do it. You can get the whole fan housing out UNDER and to the right. Don't mess with the dashboard. Get it out to clean and check. Actually - to skip the difficulties with taking the fan package out - there is a very smart way of 'dremel' the housing wall and get the motor out from under/front. Then tape and seal it back together. And: Always test and test the work before going all the way back. Test and check. And check again. (Your fan is not correctly installed i e rattling noise.)
it is the worse job on a 240, you took the long road, simply by disassembling the front of the console and prying the dashboard, you,re able to remove the side caps of the heater housing then the blower motor, I done that many times on 240's I rebuilt my blower motors by fitting #609-2RS sealed bearings in the place of the bushings, it required 2 adapter sleeves on the motor shaft and very little machining on the motor caps to recieve that bearings...this lasted the life of the car

Looks like they built the car around that blower motor! Great work man, loving the channel 👌
Awesome job working on a Volvo 240, at least you get to know and familiarize with your car, congratulations.

AMEN to that! I am proud of this young man. Volvo for Life.
Nice…very intelligent approach to a daunting task.
Great video Max, thanks for posting. Hope the Volvo is running well today. I would be glad to give you a hand if I was your neighbor.
Thank you so much for the support!
Nice work - you probably save 2K in labor doing this yourself and now you are the expert! :)
exactly 💪😎

My '93 had an antifreeze leak at the head fix itself completely . These cars are worthy of all love. OV LOV

Most difficult job to do on a 240 bar none.
AV done it twice on mine non Aircon model .
Did I just witness a 240 blower motor replacement completed by a 12 year old?!?!? ;-)
This kid is amazing. We 240 lovers can appreciate his freaking work ethic. The most difficult job on a 240 WITHOUT a question. Great comment Tony!

My fan sounded like that before it went out , so I'm thinking, I'll test it right after I install the fan and see what the fan is hitting
