I started this project in October and have been working on it off and on since... my bad There are sources and credits in the description, if I got anything wrong please let me know and I'll make an update. It's been my dream to make an actually 'educational' video for ... maybe four five years? It's a way of justifying the excessive amount of time I spend editing. I think I've finally gotten it done though. Thanks for reading and watching.
Thank you for showing the picture of the old 8 Third Ave Elevated line and the second Ave Elevated line ninth Ave Elevated line. It's a shame that they torn down the Thrid Avenue Elevated line 1974 shuttle. Keep bringing the Thrid Avenue Elevated line back. We are definitely gonna miss the view at Times Square 42nd Street seeing the 1 2 3 lines passing by.
I wish I could have included more stuff in this doc (pedestrian tunnel included, as well as a whole section on the changelog of the 2019 reconstruction) but I needed to get the video out as soon as possible. Maybe in the future.
I love watching videos about the subway - but I don't think anyone has tackled the Shuttle like you have. I love this - and didn't know it goes back so far. Loved this video. Great work!!
In terms of editing, this is the most creative rail history video I've ever seen (what's the name of your editing software?) Only suggestion for future videos is to include a conclusion sentence, since the end came rather suddenly. Otherwise, keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what you'll work on next.
Thanks man, I really do appreciate how you've stuck around the channel since the beginning. Looking back at the ending I definitely agree, even a few sentences as wrap up or future plans or something would go a long way. Also, I use Premiere Pro and After Effects to make these videos, motion graphics and animation stuff is done in After Effects and brought into Premiere for general layout since it's better for long videos.
They had a 3 man operation before the late 1990s during the rush hours: 2 motormen and 1 conductor. When OPTO started on the shuttle lines, the middle man was eliminated and now have 4 personnel on 2 6 car trains.
Back in the late 90s, when I was younger and living in NYC, we took the shuttle once to get to Penn Station, I think, and I almost tripped shortly after the person said, "watch your step."
Good Job. The shuttle tracks were also used for alot of movie and TV projects. On the Times Square side under the platform area there used to be a whole lower mezzanine level. Keep up the good work
of course (?) you know the 42nd street shuttle isn't the only one in the NYC system. There's also the Franklin Avenue Shuttle in Brooklyn, and the Rockaway Park Shuttle in Queens.
@@robert.halpern Are you aware of the unlisted shuttles? You won't find them on the map, and you won't find them during the day. You have to really dig into the subway time tables to find any acknowledgement they exist, which for some stupid reason they are trying to phase out from publishing at all. But its right there, on the website. Overnight a few of the branches on the periphery of the system switch to shuttle service. You would never stumble upon this fact unless you were looking through weird mta documents or if you lived there.
SI was also part of the consolidation into the City of Greater N.Y in 1898 but I chose not to highlight it because the railway system there is isolated from the rest of the city, unlike Bk and Queens
Our platforms aren't built with the same weight limit or straightness needed. You'd have to redo most platforms and right now the budget didn't account for any of it.
But there are ideas floating around of at least erecting four foot high barriers and railings similar to the one at Bowling Green that's on the island platform.
@mohamad There are ideas floating around to test at several stations but 4 stations ain't gonna cut down on anything. Plus those barriers have no electronics and are simple bars, wait till you add actual weight to them.
Three stations are scheduled to get platform screen doors as part of a pilot: the 7 and trains' platform at Times Square; the E train's platform at Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport; and the L train's Third Avenue station. Whether it will be a success or not is still up in the air; however, the 7 and L having CBTC may make this more successful for them (the E is getting CBTC soon).
I think it’s really a shame they never expanded the S train. There is so much underground real estate Eastwards and I believe they could have expanded it further to make it less of a walk to 3rd Avenue. (Other side of Grand Central).
They really can't. by its design, its at the same level as the 4/5/6. Any expansion means one crosses in front of the other forcing it to wait and be delayed. They can't put it one layer higher because its on the top already. It can't go one lower, the 7 is under it. It can't veer off to the side, Grand Central is right there. Its stuck.
I think the shuttle would be more useful if it could continue directly to Penn Station. But it would probably cost a stupid amount of money to extend it.
Not as simple as it looks as the 7 train and the Flushing Line in general is already at capacity. The 42nd Street Shuttle is still the most useful (to the point that it has been rebuilt).
The shuttle be so dead that If the cars break down they could run retired equipment to make them useful Which would make no sense but As long as they work and are safe They would make LOADS O' MONEY because the foamers

Awesome job! I'm a Manhattan boy, born and raised in lower east side. Now living in South Florida past four years
Honestly the editing in the video is top notch, fantastic work! Can't wait to see future videos like this
thank you!! Really means a lot that you enjoyed it.

Deadass
Now do the Franklin Avenue and Rockaway Shuttle
Another video on the reconstruction of the 42nd Street Shuttle includes a pedestrian tunnel to Bryant Park.

Honestly, before I started this project I didn't realize it went back so far either. Really glad you enjoyed!
dude the graphics on this video are awesome. nice work!! good video :)
I remember watching your first train video like a year ago and just got recommended your videos again, keep making great content and god bless

amazing video, loved the editing!
I appreciate the disclaimer at the end. This is an uncommon but welcome feature.
Woah, 6 months! Worth it. Well done! 👏👏👏
Thank you! Really glad you think so.

Definitely the R17, aka the redbirds. I rode one as a child and it was like entering a time machine
The r62a train 🚊 is prefect ❤❤❤ 9:07

Thanks! I wanted to use a clip from The French Connection but wasn’t sure whether it would be safe from copyright.
My birth year car is running on the shuttle. So is my mother's birth year car. And for some time, they were coupled together in the same train!
bros back with insane motion graphics
lets go
tyyyy!!
A really well made video indeed
Damn good video bro
r17s were still opreating on the shuttle at the time of the 1972 fire
godly editing
Good Job!!!👍🏽👍🏽
Fire video dude
This video is absolutely amazing.
bro dropped the hardest S train edit like it was nothin 🔥🔥🚝
this video is fantastic!
This was fab. Subbed!
Thank you!
Love the R17s!!!😊
The line was supposed to continue via Broadway however the nimbys opposed it
of course (?) you know the 42nd street shuttle isn't the only one in the NYC system. There's also the Franklin Avenue Shuttle in Brooklyn, and the Rockaway Park Shuttle in Queens.
Don’t worry, I do. I could make an entire video about each of the others but … won’t because it would take so long.

The line originally went from 145th to City Hall not 151st Street
Thank you, I’ll find a source to add to the description to correct that.
Seriously, your gonna break this kids chops over 6;blocks. Cant wait to see your video
.
@@anthonygallo3576 he said to let him know if there were any errors in the description. Pay attention.
welcome back
And there’s. Also the franklin Avenue shuttle
In the future, R262 will run on the 42nd Street Shuttle. And R62A and R62 will be retired or replaced
✔ Nice presentation. Very informative & entertaining.
0:25 When did Staten Island join "the Greater"? 🤠

WOW extending platforms 🔥🔥🔥!! Also can you explain why subway doesn’t got glass doors to prevent people falling onto the track?
because we are NY and that is out of budget!! 😥

Super cool 😎
I would have to say this is more like a modern twist history documentary about the 42 St line
How is it inefficient?
Me when I am in an awful method of transportation contest and my opponent is the L train: 😳
ok
BMT had nothing to do with the Dual Contracts.
Bro really edit the shuttle train
If they want the moving chairs, just make a ski lift!

With Grand Central Madison it’s less of a priority now, but we need better crosstown M34 service in general.
@@robert.halpern 34 st busway like 14st.
The track and tunnel layout makes this impossible.
I think that the 42nd Street Shuttle is the least useful shuttle to exist, because you can just take the 7.

YEAHH FINALLYYYY
YESSS!! I BLAME THE WAIT ON DAILY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
R17 and R22
So a ski lift
cute thumbnail (R62A with a crown).

its good but you just had to add the average 99 cent tik tok edit effects

what is with the Music??? your talking the music is very very annoying and loud 👎👎👎 great video if it was not for the music
The music really isn’t that loud when he talks.
