Just got back from dealer with the bulletin and omg it’s gooooonee let me tell you , it was crazy crazy loud like everyone would look at the stoplight at who’s got the broken car
Oh i believe it when its stupid loud before the thermal grease fix. I had people look at me like oooo cool car! And then the huge shriek of a squeel and their faces in an instance are like OOOooo maybe not so cool 🤣
You really only needed to lubricate where metal meets Metal on the sides of the pads. I replaced the stock Brembo rotors and pads with Powerstop Z26 and eliminated the noises and brake dust on my C8.
2022 non Z51 here. Took it to the dealership on Fri. Was told about the bulletin. It will take around a week for them to get the copper grease. Then I'll go back and get it done. I'll keep you posted.

i have a 2023 C8 z51 3LT ...(I ordered it back in July of 2022 and picked it up in Sept of 2022) my brakes started the loud squealing noise back in October of 2023, so i took it to the dealership where i bought it from. They said i needed the copper based lubricant, which would take about a month to get.. I said "fine, it has to be done." So the copper lubricant comes in, I take my C8 into get it fixed to no avail. So, I decide to go to another dealership and get my c8 checked out again, TURNS OUT that I need new front & rear brakes and rotors! because the factory ones are only rated under warranty for 7,500 miles.. the cost to get new ones is $1,830.00 for all 4. I am waiting for the parts to come in next week. My c8 only has 13,000 miles on it..I shouldnt be putting new brakes & rotors on it so soon. 🤬😤
I have a 2021 z51 HTC with 5800 miles and had the same problem. The local dealership initially applied the copper lubricant but that only worked for a few weeks. When I took my car back for the same issue, they said there was a bulletin for the $2300 rear brake pads and rotors and that they would replace them for “free.” However, I paid over $1900 for the front brakes and rotors alone. Something doesn’t sound right. 🤔
This is exactly what’s happening to me. I have a 2023 C8 stingray 1LT corvette. They said it needed copper paste. Which was free. Picked it up last night and brakes are still squealing. Called told them. Said they didn’t test drive it after due to the bad weather. Understandable. But said they would bring it back in when the weather is better so they can test drive it to see when the squealing occurs etc. I said it happens when braking at a low speed. Also told me they have to go by GM guidelines so there was another alternative they could do. He couldn’t tell me what off the top of his head. Hmmmm. Well he said they’d call me when the weather was better to bring it back. But here they use text to communicate with your technician so I sent everything in that chat so they can’t say I reported this weeks later. But he also said it would be free to fix if the copper paste wasn’t working. They did send me a video of pulling everything apart. So I saw everything they did. Hoping they are able to fix this. Because it’s embarrassing to drive that expensive car and then to stop and it squeals.

Hey glad it helped! I would recommend all brakes yes. Fronts though seem to be where they happen with my C8 as well and its a reoccuring issue now that I have a few thousand miles since. The big thing is that it depends on how often your cleaning and potentially powerwashing your wheels. Washing off the grease you placed will make it come back eventually. Id say it last about 4 months or so if your consistently cleaning your car once a week. Hope that helps!
Cool Nick! Im not aware specifically of a copper grease that is applicable for marine based applications but would not surprise me if it existed. The ceramic thermal brake grease i found though does work really well in this application and has a higher temp working zone than traditional copper greases.
@@NuHorizonC8 I'll use the Ceramic break grease you're using if or when this issue comes up. It would of been great if there was a comparable marine high temp grease since it doesn't wash off as easy with water. That's the only reason I mentioned marine grade. As you know. It's resistant to water. Not to say power washing g won't blow it out. So seen someone take off the old backing thin metal plate from the original brake pads and put then o. The Ceramic ones that stopped the squealing. Sounds like GM has stopped using the thin backing plate on their brake shoes. Did your original have the thin back plate? If so, put them on your Ceramic pads and that should that care of the sqeal, hopefully. Good informational video!
I purchased my 2021 LT1 Camaro new. Having the same issue at 40k miles with squealing noise. I tried to change my pads, but nothing fits, or incorrect configurations. Come to find out I had the same Z51 break package/the j55 brake system installed on the Camaro. I don't know if my Camaro was a prototype setup or not.
I don't think it's just C8. I think it's GM on other models as well. And the copper lube is their standard "fix" and it will come back. I had this problem on my previous Cadillac. I just think the whole design is the issue going back over a decade
Hey Brett thanks for the comment! Thats interesting yet doesnt surprise me. The bulletin i found called out multiple GM cars including Cadillac as well. I had never come across it myself previously until this though I will say. It does make me wonder if GMs decision to place adhesive on the back of the OEM pads is their way to essentially bypass this issue until essentially the customer changes out the pads. It would make sense to me since i never had these issues with my oem pads but then again others have. Thanks again for the comment! 👍😎
Hey RonP5746 thanks for the comment! So it did end up coming back but very sporadically and rarely. It looks to be just indeed a design issue with that brake system and the fix is how I mentioned to use the ceramic brake grease. Why It did end up coming back was after maybe 5 or 6 washes that some of the brake grease has been washed off. It doesn't do it all the time like it did before but occasionally once in a while like once ever tenth drive. If I were to go in and regrease the pad sides like I showed in the video, I know the sound would be gone. Overall though looks like this will be something C8 owners may need to deal with. Hope this helps.
I paid over 500 bucks to HAVE THE TECHNICIAN put this paste in the video on my ceramic pads on my z51 2021 HTC.... STILL SQUEAKING .... absolute nitemare
I have a 2020 z51 that freaking screams when I stop and the brakes are brand new, so annoying, I am not looking forward to having to reapply crap on the brakes every couple weeks

It's super common on carbon ceramic brakes! But I understand, sometimes people look at you like your brand new flashy car is broken

I had the same issues I just lubed them up an it worked but it comes back after lube drys. It’s a pain

I have it just driving and hitting the brakes it is all the time.

And I've had that type of squealing for 20,000 miles but nothing like Carlos has - yet-
