I have watched several videos on this subject and your tutorial is by far the best. Also liked the camara views. I will be changing my brakes soon to eliminate dust and I plan to use your video as my guide.
Thanks so much! I just did my pad change after watching this video and studying it. I timed myself and it took me 1:05. Definitely went faster as I knew everything I needed beforehand and was able to just jump in and get going.
Finally! A vid that shows everything you need and all the steps in the vid itself. No having to go through the posts to read comments about “oh, ya, you need to do this , then that, I just didn’t mention those.” Subd
Very clear love the diagrams showing exactly where the pins go on the rears. I plan to change out my OEMs for track pads prior to next race day and have never done anything like this and this video makes me confident I can pull it off without injuring myself of the car.
Thanks for this!!!! I worked up the courage to do this with my son. Never changed brake pads before. Won’t say it was super easy but doable with patience. Appreciate it!!!!
Great video. I ordered the same pads for 2023 convertible z51 that I acquired about a month ago. I've seen other videos where changing the pads resulting in codes and check engine light because they did not disconnect the battery first and they ended up replacing the master cylinder. They also did not pump the brakes with the car off which created a clacking sound from improperly seated pads. I will follow your instructions as they give me confidence that I will do it right. Thanks!
Very well done, You have missed your calling. 3 questions: 1. Do you recommend opening the brake fluid cap when compressing the Calibers? 2. Do you recommend loctite on bolts? 3. Do you suggest a video that you may have on brake in
i have not heard or read anything about the Rotors.......I have 51K on a 2020 C8 non-Z51, and it is a great car... The factory brakes are good enuf for me and I am wondering if I need to buy Rotors or Turn them , anyone have any advice ? thanks
On my 23 non z51 vette I did not have to remove the calipers to change out the pads. Made it super easy. I took a picture but it won't let me post it in the comments.
Hey Neal thanks for the comment! Yup the nonz51 front brakes work similar to the rears with pins that can be popped out to then remove the pads. Way easier for sure but still doable either way! Have a good one! 😎👍
Hey bud thanks for the comment. So i did not have to reprogram the computer after the new pads. Big thing is to make sure you disconnect the battery before you start working on the pad change and pump the brakes after the job is done but before hou reconnect the battery. Hope this helps
@@NuHorizonC8 got ya. But I wonder if we should be doing that when doing or is there not that much movement cause they are fairly new still would be my guess
Hey Bob. You can pump the brakes before placing the battery cable back on if youd like. Although only thing to keep in mind is youll need the door open before initially disconnecting otherwise you wont be able to gain access since the door is electronic (unless you use the bypass function). All the pumping does whether you do it before replugging the battery or before turning the car on is reseat the brakes on the rotor. That way the computer system believes the pads are already in their correct position and doesnt throw a code when you repump the brakes while the car is on. The second repump is kinda redundant. Its my own personal safety measure to make sure the brakes are actually working right before i start driving the car. Hope that helps 👍
Why did the front calipers have to be removed? It looks like the locating pins and retention spring can just be removed and brakes loaded from the top. What am I missing?
Hey tony thanks for the question. So there is a couple of reasons actually. Firstly, early gen C8s used to have an adhesive applied on the backsides of the oem brake pads. In order to remove them, you need the pads to be clear of the rotors to pry them off from the backside without damaging the rotors. Newer C8s i believe dont have this issue from factory so that is no longer an issue but a person who may have just bought a lightly used C8 stingray Z51 may have that issue. Second, there is a difference of brake setup between Non-Z51 and Z51 C8 stingrays. The non Z51s use locating pins that can be removed just like the rear pads, which makes it easier actually and pads can be removed just like you mentioned. The Z51 brakes however use a special head pin that would need to be removed in order to remove the retention spring. If one doesnt have that special socket for the special head pin, the only way to get to the pads is by removing the caliper. I made the assumption most people wont have that socket and went with the caliper removal method. Both options work though. Hope that helps clear things.
I followed your instructional video to change my 2022 C8 Z51 brake pads using Carbotech pads, and everything turned out perfectly. No squeaking, no clicking, no engine light and best of all no more brake dust. Is there any special way to break them in?
Awesome to hear Jack! 💪 and not really just normal driving will break them in naturally. I will say my own peace of mine pushed me to find an empty part of road and do a couple brake test from 60 to 0 just to get a good feel with new pad type than usual.
I did this on Saturday on my 2023. Here's a couple of details. The front pads had no adhesive, so it appears GM has stopped this. Instead, the piston faces were lubricated. Also, the caliper bolts have the added bonus of blue Loctite factory applied. This means those bolts are tight 90% of the way out... and I mean tight! With no pad adhesive, you could remove the caliper pins, but I think it'd take more time since I believe those also have blue Loctite based on the Power Stop Z26 pads having new pins with pre-applied thread locker. I bedded the new pads and drove a bit after the swap and all I can say is, what brake dust? In the same distance the Brembo pads would have completely coated the wheels in dark, thick dust.
Hey Diego thanks for the comment! So I ended up still having life out of my old OEM pads when I changed them out for the Ceramic pads. At near the 30k Mark, Id say I had about half life left on them but I never put my C8 under any kind of track conditions. Just some spirited driving every once in a while. Under track conditions you could go through a set of OEM Z51 pads in a couple of weekends but thats the extreme case. Hope this helps!
Can you comment on the brake performance compared to the z51 oem pads? Without the less dust factor. Initial bite Stoping distance Brake feel and fade in gigh speed freeway stop.
Hey Ron thanks for the comment! You could potentially do that and I would say it would work. At least for me though id rather go more conservative and just disconnect the battery so that the C8 doesnt come up with an error some other way. Have a good one!
One of the best videos to change the brake pads. Thanks !!
Glad it helped!

Hey Jack really glad the video is easy to follow! Enjoy when you do your pad change and let me know if you have any extra questions! 🙏😁
Thanks so much! I just did my pad change after watching this video and studying it. I timed myself and it took me 1:05. Definitely went faster as I knew everything I needed beforehand and was able to just jump in and get going.
Glad that this helped! 😎👍
Thank you for providing this detailed video.
Of course! Glad it helped!

Thanks bud I genuinely try and do these how tos as if Im trying to do them myself first time. I truly appreciate it! 🙏😎
As always, very clear to understand and just as clear to see the steps taken. Thank you!
Thanks again for the awesome feedback!

Really glad this helps make it clear for you Neal! 👍Definitely doable! Enjoy your next track day in the C8! Its where you can really enjoy it! 😎
Thanks for this!!!! I worked up the courage to do this with my son. Never changed brake pads before. Won’t say it was super easy but doable with patience. Appreciate it!!!!
Glad it helped! 😎👍
Exactly the video I was looking for! Thanks for making it so clear and detailed! I plan on changing my pads out tomorrow.
Hey Jake thanks for the comment and glad it can help out! Good luck on changing your pads! 👍😎
Great step-by-step video again Carlos.
Thanks Gavin! 🙏

Great video guys! FYI I just changed out my pads on my 2023 C8, GM stopped gluing in the pads in the front.
Hey Andre thanks for the comment and info! That does make it alot easier if thry arent glued lol. 😎👍
Excellent detailed video, great tips on making this a true DIY job.
Thanks bro much appreciated! 👍💪
What is your opinion of loosening the break reservoir cap
Very well done, You have missed your calling.
3 questions:
1. Do you recommend opening the brake fluid cap when compressing the Calibers?
2. Do you recommend loctite on bolts?
3. Do you suggest a video that you may have on brake in
The best video, now I will do mine
Thank you bud! Glad it helps out! 👍🙏😎
GiroDisc makes/sells titanium brake shims for the Carbotech pads that fit perfectly since the pads don’t come with shims.
Great video thanks
You bet
Just changed my pads and I did not unplug battery
Thanks 🙏🏾
Great video.
Thank you Tam! Much appreciated! 👍🙏

Hey brother I'm doing the same job today and I need to know if it's true that you have to reprogram the computer after installing the new brake pads?

My only question is do you not have to take off brake fluid cap when using the tool to push back pistons in? Like you would on a regular brake job
Hey Jay thanks for the comment. I did not in my case.
@@NuHorizonC8 got ya. But I wonder if we should be doing that when doing or is there not that much movement cause they are fairly new still would be my guess
Should you pump the brakes before putting back the battery cable.I notice you said after?

I hate the dust
Your not alone bud! Changing out those pads makes a HUGE difference!
