Guys - I did this on my 2005 Z51 in 2011 and I seem to recall that the Helms Corvette service manual said with factory rotors to make index marks relative to orientation on the hub anytime rotors are removed. Obviously that would apply to replacing pads without replacing rotors, but the service manual also said maximum runout at an 8” radius must not exceed 0.002”. If the service manual still says to make index marks on rotor orientation, that made me wonder if the factory uses an on-the-car brake lathe as a final cut on OEM rotors during assembly at Bowling Green. Maybe I was overthinking this, but I had a hell of a time getting all four rotors oriented at 0.002” or less runout with both the new Centric cross drilled and slotted rotors and/or the old rotors. I had about 30,000 miles on the dusty semi metallic Z51 pads and rotors, so I spent several hours cleaning the rust and debris from mating surfaces on the hubs to get my runout at or below 0.002” with the new rotors. Rotate a rotor just one lug bolt in orientation, and the runout changed dramatically. Well, perhaps “dramatically” is a stretch, but at 186 mph I began to worry about why the engineers were that fussy limiting runout to 0.002”. Maybe someone else has run into this wide variation in runout when re-orienting a rotor just a few degrees relative to the hub? The ceramic pads indeed got rid of the brake dust on my C6. I am not looking forward to doing this again at 81 years old with my new 2024 C8.
That was excellent! Show us the broken in finish. I have the black wheels on my C8 HTC and they are a pain in the a to keep clean. Might do this conversion after it is a couple years old. I need the left so I can change wheels out from time to time. Torque wrench. What else do I need for wheel and brake work? Thanks guys!

Mike, well done video.(5-stars) I have an unrelated question. I'm having problems with my 2021convertible. The convertible top Its not working, I call some of my local dealers and they haven't reach back so I subscribe to a C8 forum and found out im not along. Maybe you guys can help me out or find out who can. Im in central Florida(Orlando)
Hopefully Darren has better luck with R1 Concepts rotors than I have. My experience with those on a different car is that they warp too easily. I would not recommend them for anything beyond normal street driving, and especially not for track driving. If I were you, I would have chosen Powerstop rotors if they're an option for the c8, because I have used their blank rotors with the Powerstop Track Day pads on my current car (not a Corvette), and those rotors held up AMAZINGLY well with the performance of those pads. Otherwise, thank you for showing how this is done. I thought the rear calipers having removable pins vs the front calipers not having removable ones was unexpected.
I hope so too. He won’t be tracking his car so it shouldn’t be an issue. They learned after doing the driver side rear, that they could do it that way, so we filmed it that way. You can do the fronts that way too.
Love the video. I have a '23 Z51 and I noticed you have the same R1 rotors for both the front and rear. Isn't the rear rotor larger in diameter than the front?
Yep, mine were glued on [2100 miles]. Managed to cut the piston boot trying to separate the piston and pad. Luckily piston boots are simple to swap out. But when the piston falls out, if you didn't pull the battery cable, then you're screwed. You get air in that corner. Can't bleed it with battery cable connected. On the positive side, now I know how to pressure bleed C8 brakes.
Hi guys I did the exact same procedure. After my car went into limp mode for the brakes. Could drive over certain speed. BRAKE system warning lights code errors. Found Out You need to disconnect the neg battery terminal. I pushed my pistons back a bit further than yours. The system reset when i disconnected and reconnected battery. Other videos on you tube recommend this first step of leaving battery disconnected. Wish I'd watched those first
Mike, I put up with dust because I trust the Engineers and I track my car. I believe the pads are sacrificed instead of the rotors. Some people go to shows.
My C7 ZR1 generates virtually no brake dust which I attribute in large part to the carbon ceramic rotors and OEM brake pads. In fact I can swipe a finger across one after driving and there's no dust on my finger tip. Whereas on my dad's C6 ZR1 there is since it has steel rotors.

You do not, most will use these with OEM rotors. Paragon has the best pricing, they are on sale now, you won’t regret it. I have 100 Miles on the car and almost no brake dust, dramatically better.
I installed ceramic brake pads on my 2010 GS when it was new. It reduced brake dust ~80% and still does. But I did not change rotors. Why did they change rotors in this video?

@nrdemon would you think it’s necessary to replace the rotors with the drilled rotors, over the OEM rotors? I have less than 4k miles and it has t been tracked…yet!
@@budhorstmeyer9336 no not necessary, OEM ones will be fine on the track, I personally like the look of drilled and slotted rotors and since I knew we would have the calipers off in the front I figured now was the time.
Just change the pads. The pads only create the dust not the rotors. Drilled and slotted rotors are just for show. If tracking drilled rotors will get hair line cracks from the hard abuse and heat. Slotted rotors stay cooler than solid rotors on track. These guys need to put back on their gold chains.
On 2023 C8 Z51 Stingray they recommended disconnecting the battery. Has this requirement changed? 2nd question. Did they stop gluing the pads to the pistons? This was a big PITA on the 2023..
I got these pads and though the dust was significantly reduced each drive does sill require a quick cleaning of the rear end of the car. Title was a little misleading, I was hoping there was something I didnt know.
I heard that if you don't peal off the thin plate from the back of the Brembo break pads and put then on the Paragon pads that it will make one haed click sound when putting on the breaks. Not sure what's causing this but, the installer said had to add the thin plate on the Patagon pads to eliminate the one click. Please let me know if that's true, thank for the video.
Got the Carbotech pads coming. R1 Concepts says they don’t have rotors to fit my 2023 C8 Z51 HTC. 🤷🏻♂️ Anyone have a suggestion on drilled/slotted rotors that won’t break the bank? Thanks
They have them as those are on my car, the item numbers are in the description. Whoever you spoke with must not have realized they are the same for 2022-2022.

I like to know it that true you you can not order like that anymore? Also I would like to know how many C8 2022 were builded in 2022. Can you do a video please. Thanks keep up the good videos
Some say to we did not, apparently the reason you would is if you open a door the Calipers compress. So if you don’t open the doors during install you will be fine.
Just leave key fob away from car so self check doesn't happen , the hydro pump will check brakes. Also perform parking brake calibration with new rotors.
I dont know how big of an issue is to deal with the break dust in order to replace disks and pads because I own a regular stingray which I drive every day and i may track 2 or 3 times and the regular stingray set up is perfect for that, but you need a Z51 if you are a hardcore track person, and it’s not your daily, the z51 comes with bigger breaks and rotors and stickies tires to grip better at 150+ mph but only last about 7000 mi are very expensive and can’t be used on wet or cold days and are barely streets legal and on top of that you have to deal with excessive dust I really don’t see the need for a Z51 if you’re going to track it once in a while, you regular stingray brakes will last about 3-4 track days while the Z51 will last about 7-8 track days and there’s also the issue with the different oil brake and the oil hoses that need to be replaced if you plan to track a non Z51 more than 3-4 times
Pads and rotors if purchased on sale about $1,000 for everything, some great sales on both this weekend. Paragon has the best prices on the pads, R1 Concepts is doing 30% off with code: VIP30 part numbers are in the Video description.

Pads and rotors if purchased on sale about $1,000 for everything, some great sales on both this weekend. Paragon has the best prices on the pads, R1 Concepts is doing 30% off with code: VIP30 part numbers are in the Video description.
Do you disconnect the battery when doing this?
Awesome video guys! That was such a good easy solution using the bungee cords! Looking forward to installing my pads too!
Thanks Carlos, I did make things easier. 👍😊
Did you disconnect the battery when doing this?
On 2023 C8 Z51 Stingray they recommended disconnecting the battery. Has this requirement changed?
2nd question. Did they stop gluing the pads to the pistons? This was a big PITA on the 2023..
More videos like this please. Best video yet. Reminds me of Speed Phenom. Happy Holidays!!!!
Wow, thank you, that is a huge compliment. I’m glad you enjoyed it! 👍😊 Happy holidays to you!
I’ve installed these on my C8 and the stopping power felt the same and brake dust is reduced but it certainly hasn’t been eliminated.
The bite isn’t remotely close to the same. Come on now. I’ve had both and it’s night and day
I got these pads and though the dust was significantly reduced each drive does sill require a quick cleaning of the rear end of the car. Title was a little misleading, I was hoping there was something I didnt know.
Say do u have to change the stock rotors
Did you disconnect the battery. I heard some time the car will run a test , on the breaks, and it may compress the capliers.
Awesome job guys! A lot easier than I was expecting.
Thank you, it sure was Jeff. With Darren and Mark doing the job, it was a piece of cake for me 😉😊
What was the cost?
Great
Great editing as always 👍🏻
Thank you 😊
My lug nut socket is 22 mil, Just curious why you were using a 19 mil socket? My C8 is a 2020.
Aftermarket wheels are typically 19 mm
@@nrdemon1031 makes sense, thanks.
@@nrdemon1031 Thank you. I will give them another call in the morning and hope to get someone different.
@@jerryg4111 give them the item numbers in this video’s description. Good luck, let me know.
@@nrdemon1031 I am being told they are out of stock with no estimate when they will be available. To check back in 2 - 3 months. 🤷🏻♂️
do you have a link to that "quick jack"?
Hi Mike , my name is Phet I enjoyed watching your video good infor. I have c8 2022 3LT accelerator yellow with the interior like the yellow C8 R edition. I like to know it that true you you can not order like that anymore? Also I would like to know how many C8 2022 were builded in 2022. Can you do a video please. Thanks keep up the good videos
So is there any way to have these cars on regular jack stands? Really not looking to spend $2000 on quick jacks 😑
I have try to order the set of rotor at R1 Concept and it shows that they do not have for c8 corvette.? May i ask for the parts number instead. Thanks
What brand of rotors did you put on? Same as the pads manufacturer?
@r1concepts
Great educational and informative video please do a follow up video for the break dust.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video! Great job explaining everything guys.👍 Good camera angles too to show the work. Thanks!👍😎
I’m happy you enjoyed it. 👍
When are you required to disconnect the Battery when working with the Brake System?
I recall hearing that, but don’t remember where or from who…..
From what I've seen you only have to disconnect the battery if you open the hydraulic system. Like bleeding or changing fluid or replacing caliper
Some say to we did not, apparently the reason you would is if you open a door the Calipers compress. So if you don’t open the doors during install you will be fine.
Just leave key fob away from car so self check doesn't happen , the hydro pump will check brakes. Also perform parking brake calibration with new rotors.
Wow ! 😎
Ceramic brakes better suited for the track? You need to heat them up to get the braking power desired.
So do you have to bleed the brakes after taking them off
Not in our case as we did not disconnect the brake lines.
Ok cool
So there is only 1 screw holding the rotor on? It looks like there are 2 holes for that on the rotor, but I only saw 1 screw.
I use Akebono pads and they also do that. They are Scotty approved. Akebono makes pads for many car brands. Always nice to see project cars improve.
Great how to video. Looking forward to a review.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Did this with one of my Corvettes a while back. Got rid of the brake dust but the car doesn't stop as fast. Will never do it again.
Not trying to crash the party but were these rotors drill all the way through? Didn't look like it on video.
how much $
Pads and rotors if purchased on sale about $1,000 for everything, some great sales on both this weekend. Paragon has the best prices on the pads, R1 Concepts is doing 30% off with code: VIP30 part numbers are in the Video description.
Get Blackhawk pads a lot cheaper you don't need new rotors on a new vette lmao
Keep in mind the carbotechs have pad overhang on the rear, they have no wear sensor springs like the OEM pagid and no shims like the OEM.
