I'm struggling to find free skates that achieve the same look, so wondering if it makes sense to get aggressive flat skates (4 wheels instead of 2) with larger wheels
Yes, if you like 'skating' you must get 4 wheels. Anti Rocker is so prohibitive on the streets; no stairs, no easy curb rolls, no rolling speed bumps, bad in potholes. A skate with a huge gap (h-block) is made for parks/rails, but is miserable on the streets. 60mm and above can be perfectly skate-able. 70mm+ will give you full boot clearance on powerstops and crossovers.
Those are some awesome skills that you can do all that while holding that camera stick. I'm sure holding that camera stick has to throw off what you're doing a little bit.
YES!! So much so in fact that I'm thinking of getting a pair because I feel like my 2018 twister edges are too much for me, lol. See, I've had tendonitis in both knees when I gained weight years ago after college. Now at 45, I've lost considerable weight since then. I was 135lbs when I started skating at 19. My heaviest was 218lbs.....sluggish and many knee and back problems. Now, I'm a nimble 178lbs. Im working on going down to 170 so almost there! I skated for 5 years everyday on agressive skates so I know being low to the ground is what I miss.
I learnt the down hill one leg behind you 90 degrees pointing down on 1 wheel downhill speed pose before i finished my power stop! I can do a half decent power slide, i tried it and learnt it in one day, since during my botched power stop attempts my left skate was already transitioned 180 degrees backwards, now to learn it at higher speeds
I personally don't see the appeal regarding inline grinding. They don't seem very aesthetically pleasing and seem to sap power from a flow. Do they feel fun? I've never done them. But as a spectator they don't look fun. They remind me of soap shoes grinds... something I tried to like, but couldn't get into.
Yes, if you have flat 72mm or higher. I got my Aeon 80s delivering supplies and having a blast. Surprised you did not mention them in this clip. Great content as always, Bill!
You should try something like the USD aeon 60 for a nicer middlenground between small wheel anti rocker and fast city skate. The Aeon keeps things as low as possible while giving a slightly larger wheel and still some ability to grind. And running the larger 60mm wheels with 4 flat will help a LOT with the cracks and bumps.n
Bill, you recently got me back into skating and i thank you for that but i am realising i need better/bigger wheels because i have only ever used aggressive skates. So i am looking for some advice on where to go from here i guess. Those last 2 falls, I feel like part of that could be attributed to fatigue. What are your thoughts? I notice I'm much more prone to a fall when I tell myself “I'm tired but let me do one more before catching my breath”
The first of the last was attempting boot slide; I knew falling was a possibility. The second was due to landing a ledge like I was wearing 8 wheels, forgot about the lack of middle wheels and landed on frame. My lame-ass sprint start was due to fatigue though!
Those falls remind me of the day I decided to try the Impalas outside, and kept getting tripped up by *the low hanging bolt on toestops* 😑🔥 (operation toe stop removal underway 🤣)

So I have been skating through the city with my Agressive skates since I skated, which is quite long now,and it wanted to give my opinion. Of course they aren't as effective because of their small wheels. Hockey stops are annoying but spin breaking is great. Long strides are compleatly ok with a bit of practice. I have a flat setup with a tiny bit of rocker, which is a lot nicer than the shown antirocker setup. That makes them even heavier than they already are which definitely is annoying for longer trips. Still worth it. So in general would I recommend skating through the city with aggressive skates? Yeah totally! Especially when having to look out for cars and pedestrians it doesn't make difference speedwise, is just as safe, and feels good. Especially when you just want to get to a skatepark.
Just wanted to say this gave me a lot of confidence in my purchase lol. I ordered some Aeons with 72mm wheels and was a bit nervous I should have went with a 3x110 but I think I'll be solid especially with the Flat 72 😯
@@AlmostLakai94 Yeah, I have aeon 60,that are worn down to be quite a bit smaller and they totally work for the city. @@myotiswii This is good to hear. I ordered some Aeon 60s for the flat setup, with the hopes of being able to skate both around town and aggressive, but after watching this video I was concerned that the wheels would be too small.
I just begin watching this video and i am very tense because ive been doing the exact same thing for the past 4 years or so and from experience i can tell it is extremely dangerous, the small wheels can easily lock on rocks or cement joints, holes, imperfections and u name it. And i also know Bill likes going very fast. But all worked alright, things could've been much worse. Like in my case where i fell and were not wearing my helmet. I woke up in a hospital bed and the nurse told me i had suffered a concussion plus fractured my face in 3 places and also broke part of a tooth.. Not the best outcome to my many daily skating sessions because i use the skates as my main commute option.

Love my Seba wrist guards, I barely realize I'm wearing 'em. Big enough to wear thin gloves inside 'em, and small enough to wear heavier gloves over 'em. The Seba knee pads are great, too. Bill recently inspired me to get some Powerslide protective shorts, which I'm loving. Can fit anything over 'em and I can scarcely tell I'm wearing 'em. Along with elbow pads and my Triple Eight helmet, I'm now fully padded up every time I skate, with confidence, now in my 33rd year of rollerblading.

Really good Video, hope your fingers heal :D Did you ever try the Powerslide Doops skates? You can waer them with your shoes on. Would like your opinion about them :)
I've only ever owned aggressive skates, but I only ever skated on the streets. Always found it really difficult - that was before I found out about non-aggressive skates. Silly me. Just ordered the 2020 GT Complete from Adapt. Can't wait to skate and get better. Also, love the American Beauty reference hah
I wish to buy an aggressive skate but I'm not sure if I'm actually going to be able to use on the streets, does it have a hard time walking on the road and is it harder to get speed with it?
So the answer to the title of your video is... "no"? Or are you determined to make these work for a city skate? I'm sure you can make them work if you want to. Good for you for trying, makes for an entertaining video that you had to pay a price for! I'm not sure it would be worth the effort. Lawrence at Back To Blading just did a city skate on some aggressive skates with the Oysi (wish) frames. 72mm on the outsides and 60mm on the insides creates a slight banana rocker on the Oysi. He said it was a good option for city skating while looking for some grind spots along the way. I think you'd like the Oysi frame for skating aggressive with a 4 wheel per skate set up as it also has a good h-block space for grinding. I'm missing being in the Toronto area this summer as I'd love to hit some of those locations we skated last year. Take care!
If these could take stairs I would bring them out more. They are very easy to grind on and enjoyable for the short skate to the park. I really was pushing the limits and prepared to fall; wore ass pads in this one. If I'm patient they can be safer than in this vid. I've been eyeing the oysi, but am loving the huge easy h block gap on these while I iron out the basics. Toronto will be even better next summer (more bike lanes going in), we'll hit it then Shawn!!
Damn, im a beginner and i thought itll be easier using lower wheel like this aggressive skate on the road. I dont mind its slower, but it seems it tripped easily 😢
There are a lot of parts to your question but I'll answer your main issue. If your feet hurt there's a problem with your boot. Maybe it's the size or shape.

This is like aggressive inline ASMR. Dude should narrate an Audible book.
I think Bill has the voice and the posture for being the new James Bond
James bond is an Englishman right?
I was just wondering about this very topic!
Where is the camera stick? I can see the shadow.
damn, this hurt to watch! Kudos Bill for showing that you are human.
The feeling when you get back on regular frames after aggressive ones...
What's it like?
@@NA-xp2cr Like going from a cast to a running shoe.
@@BillStoppard Thanks for the analogy!
the stitch is visible, you should rotate camera 90 degrees so the stitch is vertical not horizontal
This video reminds me why I wear gloves
I'm oddly coming around to the glove idea.
@@BillStoppard I really like my Triple Eight Downhill Longboard Gloves. I have the Tie Dye version. I use my gloves in all types of weather. I never skate without them.
@@fourcubed47 protective shorts?
so i bought a pair of NJ skates aggressive inline skates. I cant tell if its me or the skates but i went to a metro park near me and the whole trail was just a bumpy ride. do i need better wheels? or do i need a whole new skate?
Is that better than urban skates when the frame is changed to an urban skate frame and wheels?
Really good Video, hope your fingers heal :D
Did you ever try the Powerslide Doops skates? You can waer them with your shoes on. Would like your opinion about them :)
I hate the idea of my inline skating affecting my shoes too; I lose enough pants as it is.
That's some nice air your holding.
Aw I feel so bad for him for putting himself through this all in the name of science! Thank you for risking it!
Hey im curious. How is your back pain? Do you experience any problems?
Do you think with some practice they would be ok at least in the city?
I've only ever owned aggressive skates, but I only ever skated on the streets. Always found it really difficult - that was before I found out about non-aggressive skates. Silly me. Just ordered the 2020 GT Complete from Adapt. Can't wait to skate and get better. Also, love the American Beauty reference hah
Body on point. My god I need to buy aggressive skates again. I destroy regular ones.
I wish to buy an aggressive skate but I'm not sure if I'm actually going to be able to use on the streets, does it have a hard time walking on the road and is it harder to get speed with it?
Great video btw, loved it
Haha, I like your rebellious experiments, unconventional attitude and urge for exploring the unknown.
how hard are the wheels? I cant skating on the street je
You should make a 125 triiskate in the park video now.
Since I am still pretty new to skating, what are your thoughts on an aggressive boot with a street frame under it? Enough support?
Until you know what you are doing and really know what you like and don't like in your skates, you should stick to traditional configurations
Bill! What wheel hardness would you recommend for city skating?
That's a strange question
@@NA-xp2cr how hard do you go?
Chilli-Ice Olive-Abode 80 I think
Took a few for the team in this one!
I hope you got better after falling down I feel bad
been rollerblading for a month recently discovered your channel, amazing stuff ik this an old vid but damn bro good content
Damn, im a beginner and i thought itll be easier using lower wheel like this aggressive skate on the road. I dont mind its slower, but it seems it tripped easily 😢
what skates are these?
Is it normal Im not comfortable to do city skating with hockey skate ? After 20mins my feets always hurts
There are a lot of parts to your question but I'll answer your main issue. If your feet hurt there's a problem with your boot. Maybe it's the size or shape.
Yeah, my boots are regular size but I think I need EE
Are those 2 60mm wheels?
They are 57mm
Bill Stoppard Skating BSS I would not want to ride those in my city route , I am hooked on my 84mm. Hope your fingers are ok & you got them on ice quickly! My pinky finger & outside of hand is still messed up from 2 years ago 😬 ✌️♥️😎🐸
this camera is very nice
A mi parecer por lo que observo, patinabas como si no tuviera sentido salir a patinar por la diversión y la sensación de libertad.te lo digo porque a mi hay veces que me pasa.Y cuando eso sucede es cuándo me caigo mas...
Great cardio
You didn't even mention the half-pipe. Why?
Great vid👌🏽
