    Hannah - I know I am commenting on an old video of yours, but I just have to say I appreciate your content SO much! I love your concept of a no-buy year, and shopping, utilizing, and cherishing the products that you have already invested in! I am committing to a no-buy the rest of this calendar year, and really investing in the products I do already have. I've also been inspired by you to un-follow a LOT of makeup-related social media, to help with triggers ;) Thanks for the inspiration and help in changing my mindset towards my purchases and collection!!!

    Thank you for this. It is the conversation I needed to have with myself over and over. I get pulled into thinking I need “different/new/better” items when I KNOW I already have the ones that are perfect for me. This truly helps put my irrational rationalization to buy new products into perspective.

    I’ve really been eyeing that same CP Perception Palette from Shayla. But I have the UD Born to Run palette and know that its better for me in the long run. 🤟🏻💕

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 років тому +2

      to me, Born to Run looks like a WAY better palette.

    • @ramblerjam
      @ramblerjam 5 років тому

      I have Born to Run and not Perception. Overall, i like Born to Run and the colours in it seem better thsn in Perception. However, i do have to say that the two very light shimmers in it are a wee bit lacklustre. Like they are nice, but not the shiniest, beaming-est kind of light shimmers, kind of toned down. Also pretty similar to one another. It's the one area i think the palette falls down a bit (depending on your taste of course). I like a really beaming inner corner highlight or light lid colour and i feel like i need to pull from another palette for that. Which i don't mind, but if you just want a palette that does everything, say to travel with or have as your only eye palette, and you have similar taste to me in a shiny light shimmer, this doesn't 100% fit the bill. Though if you have a nice multicolour highlight palette you can use for multiple purposes to pair with it that would work really well i think.

    I feel you on the bronzer, after I use up the current bronze and contour products I own I don't think I'll purchase any again (my perfect foundation match is fenty 100, the shade I read reviews on from albino consumers saying they were thrilled was finally a shade that worked for them- so that tells you something about my skin tone lol). I think I got caught up watching beauty gurus all using bronzer and thought I needed it too, but failed to actually pay attention to how it made *me* look.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 років тому

      totally. I think in many ways bronzer and blush are actually the same thing, or at the very least different sides of the same coin, and they're being marketed as separate categories to make people buy more.

  • @LisaDia14

    I saw a photo of a bronzer duo that Jouer is coming out with this week. I was tempted for half a minute because it looks pretty and then I realized, I don’t need it! I have the new Marc Jacobs bronzer. The color is beautiful on me and I don’t need to buy any other bronzer. And I own a few other bronzers if I want to change it up. Since I got the MJ, I moved bronzer to a no buy category. I think I have two or three cosmetic categories left as low buy. And when the time comes for me to move to no buy, I will be ok with that because I really enjoy what I have!

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 років тому

      I'm also really tempted by the Jouer blush duo in those neutral colors, which would essentially be bronzer for me. But I love the one I have! I love your process with moving things from low-buy into the no-buy category, etc. Such a good strategy.

    • @LisaDia14

    Hi Hannah :) I know this is an old video but as you are no longer on a no-buy I wanted to tell you that the Filmstar palette from CT is the most perfect combo for my super light skin, the bronzer is super natural and the highlighter (which I thought would be too goldish for my skintone) gives you the most beautiful glow from within. Again this is on my skintone and I don't mean to tempt you into something that still might not suit you after all, but just know that it does work for (some) very light skin :) also I've fallen in love with your content and your approach of beauty :) sending good vibes from France !

    I saved this video for today. The new YSL lip vault came out. I bought it the last 2 years. Somehow, that didn’t translate in my mind to me having plenty of YSL lip products. If it makes you feel any better, I just swatched the Blue/Brown shade in the ColourPop x Shayla palette vs the one in Wet n Wild Comfort Zone and Wet n Wild was better! So your single of Urban Decay Lounge would definitely be even better than what’s in the ColourPop palette!

    I just came across your channel! I have pale skin and red hair as well, and I use the Hourglass Dim light ambient powder as a bronzer and it's perfect!! Once you're back to your buying, definitely check it out! They even sell a mini size now! :) I used up a whole mini size, then bought the full size. It's just beyond amazing, and actually similar to the concept of the ombre one you use! I also want to try the charlotte tilbury though, because I'd like a matte bronzer too lol xo

    I feel you on the wanting to buy things we already own. I have been debating with myself about that all week. ESPECIALLY on the bronzer thing. Like I want to buy a fullsized nars laguna because the brand new little sample (which i know it takes most people 6 months to use up) I own looks beautiful on me. And I WANT the charlotte tilbury bronze and glow to an almost unhealthy amount, nevermind the fact that I own that giant tub of Chanel's universal bronze zoleil that is stunning on my skin and practically brand new, Tom Ford Terra (exact color dupe for the bronzer in bronze and glow) AND the highlighter in KA Sahara as well that I bought when it came out and, in terms of sheer & glowing from within looks, it performs beautifully (also yeah i'm nc35 and terra is noticeably bronze on me, which means bronze and glow on you would be way way way too dark) as well as a small army of OTHER highlighters... and yet I still want that stupid bronze and glow. And it's not because it's a luxury brand because nothing really beats Chanel and Tom Ford in terms of luxury. So, WHY. I honestly feel like charlotte tilbury capitalizes on that concept of selling us the fantasy self to an extreme, from the name of the products to the packaging and the marketing, which is why it's so hard to let go of wanting to buy the thing. we ideally don't want the product, because we KNOW we have similar if not twin-dupes to the things we want, we want the fantasy image of ourselves that comes with the "film star" phrasing, and CT sells that need like no other company I've ever come across. And it's honestly ridiculous.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 років тому +1

      yes girl thank you for this comment!! we can support each other. If you have the Chanel bronzer and it looks stunning on you, I feel like you genuinely cannot go up from there in any way. You are on the top step of bronzer looking down on all the rest of us. And definitely looking down on Filmstar Bronze & Glow! I totally agree with what you are saying about the selling of the fantasy self. Charlotte Tilbury is like a luxury version of Glossier. It's like, "if you buy this glowy tinted moisturizer, then suddenly your skin will be so perfect that this product will be all you need to look great!" Whoops it doesn't work like that.

    • @abeautyproject
      @abeautyproject 6 років тому

      for sure! I think that's what's so frustrating ahahaha. I already have the creme of the crop of bronzers and I'm lusting over one I'd never be able to use up in time before it goes bad because I already own plenty of bronzers. And omg don't get me started on glossier. Their whole "buy this super sheer liquid blush and liquid eyeshadow that deposits no color whatsoever and you, too, could be one of the cool girls!" marketing as they present their products on the faces of 17 year olds with zero skin issues drives me nuts.

    My depotted Juvias Place singles and Born to Run palette are better, or at least as good as,
    Urban Decay Elements palette. I enjoy my splashes of color, but you only need so many pans in the same shade! Same goes for any orange tone palettes on the market. I've got that department nailed between Juvias Place and Dominique Cosmetics. That does not stop me from wanting Dose of Colors palettes though. I am sure I could talk myself out of the Blushing Berries palette if I tried but the Pretty Cool and Snow Angel's palette is pretty unique to my collection and the Baked Browns and Marvelous Mauves palettes perform soo beautifully.

    I have my too faced bronzer and that’s better than any bronzer that I want I even ran out of my hoola bronzer which is another true love and they are so comparable that the too faced I have would be “either or” and I’m happy for that. Going through my bronzer collection this year and only keeping about 5 in total, different finishes for my makeup kit one luminous and one matte for myself and not the amount that I have now ... about 27 in my collection. Any way I’m wearing today my super orgasm illuminator as a blush and it’s been a while since wore it like this. I love it. Hannah you are so well spoken I’ve researched words that you’ve said and I’ve learned words from you a ton. I’m Colombian so English is a second language and I only read books in English to improve my vocabulary but just thought you should know I live for the BIG WORDS you use as well as your videos.

    Hannah, you should try Physician's Formula butter bronzer in the lightest shade I think its called just bronzer. I have sunkissed and also deep in that bronzer and 'I love them, they smell like coconut and sunscreen and the beach and they glide on your face like butter. Everyone raves about them including very fair skinned girls and I think you would love it.

      I used to have it, and I did love it! It shattered while I was traveling last year and I had to throw it away. I didn't replace it b/c I have so many other things that work in the same role. But I agree, it's a great product.

    I want the CT bronze and glow SO bad but let me tell you the light/medium is NOT for medium skin, at all. Maybe the highlighter would be ok, but the bronzer? It could be my skin tone pressed powder! But the darker one, the highlighter is too dark and orangey for medium skin. I would need to buy both! I wish she would actually release one for medium tan skin!

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 років тому +1

      That sounds so frustrating! I wish she would make the pans removable for a mix-and-match situation. I run into this with blush palettes, because I prefer dusky blushes, but brands always pair the highlighter that is light enough for me with the pastel pink blushes, ew!

    I really wanted the Marc Jacobs tantastic bronzer which is $50, but I heard people raving last year about the Physicians formula butter bronzer so I bought it and I have almost used it up entirely I love it so much. I do love a lot of drugstore makeup. That Colourpop Fame palette is just one of the items in my huge cart. I am super obsessed with Colourpop especially there eyeshadows both cream and powder singles and palettes but they have lots of other great super affordable products too like their lippie stix and lux lipstick. I think that's the only cool toned palette I have seen from them. OMG I am dying over that palette you showed it has more shades than the Fame palette, clearly its better! I bet its fantastic but I have not tried his formula. I want to try Natasha Denona so bad. Ooooh that Perception palette is only $22 and is on my list too, its so beautiful and Andrea Matillano, one of my fav youtubers, said its the best Colourpop formula of their palettes and she has them all. I have the Jacqueline Hill Morphe palette but I didn't realize they were similar, wow! That Urban decay lounge is gorgeous but I don't have that one, but I do have that wet n wild palette, how interesting, but I still want Perception though lol. Nudestix are beautiful I love them. Mariah Leonard is such an amazing makeup artist, did you see her review of that palette where she mixed colors and made an amazing shade? For the life of me I can't remember what palette it was darn it. If I think of it I will tell you I want to say it was the Too Faced Gingerbread. I love her channel.
    You hit the nail on the head when you talked about that red lipstick queen and the guerlain
    lipstick. I have that crazy compulsion to buy more of the same things that I already have in my collection too its just that I want more!

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 років тому +1

      SO often I think we want things just to want them, not because we will actually use them! I still find myself wanting more and then remembering that I want it because I already have dupes for it that I love. It really helps to organize and play with what I have, because it's a constant reminder of what's there (and how much it has already cost)!

  • @Puglover130
    @Puglover130 6 років тому +1

    One thing I want is the Jouer double pack blushes. They are light and subtle and foxy and just perfect for my shade and all the YTers just rave about them. And when they declutter none of them ever declutter the Jouer double blush (im sorry I forget the shade but it’s a light dusty rose but not too pink)
    But... I go through blushes very very slow. AND I already have a holy grail blush in each shade of golden peach/ subtle pink/ darker pink-brown. I don’t need any more. I know I reap far more joy from my Benefit Gold Rush than I would from this pale pink. And yet I want it anyway.
    Btw Hannah I’m not as light as you and still find bronzers don’t work on me. They look ridiculous and are too warm and dark. I did finally find one by PF in almost an ashy grey that works great. Almost the same as your KA colour. But I heard a tip a few months ago. For us pale princesses it can be far more effective to branch out and look at the presses powder for medium tones, and use that as our bronzer. We would have so much more choice and be able to choose from warm/cool/honey undertone. A few suggested Maybelline Fit Me pressed powder as it has quite a range and is cost effective and easy to work with.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 років тому

      Oooh I wanted those Jouer blushes, too! There's one palette that's two very pale "nude" shades, I can't remember what it's called (Amour?) that I actually did put on my wishlist...but then I forgot about it :) We'll see what happens in 2019. And I appreciate the input about bronzers! I mostly just use pale blushes and they work great.

    Couple years ago I got the CT holiday box that had a bunch of minis, including lipstick, lipgloss, eyebase, skincare... The only thing i loved was the Eyes to Mesmerize cream eyeshadow. Most of the makeup i actually gave away, and the skin care are just... meh. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed. Now the only things i want to try from the brand are the powders, and despite raving reviews I have little expectations for them.

    I've been eyeing the Tom Ford cream eyeshadows and cream-powder duos for awhile. I'm sure the finish is stunning, but I know deep down I wouldn't be fixated on them if it weren't Tom Ford and super luxurious. "Oh, just let me treat myself with this ONE really expensive product and I'll be happy." We all know it never stops there.
    Makeup companies have mastered the art of exploiting our fomo culture big time. Imagine us, actually using up most of our collection without buying anything new? Will that ever happen again?

    I fell for the luxurious hype of film star bronze and glow. The highlight is subtle...I’m only just now liking it. But the bronzer is wayyy to light. I’m pale but I have redness in my cheeks and it doesn’t really show up. Honestly it’s not anything super spectacular. Not worth the hype or price. It’s invisible. Don’t buy it. Ugh. I’d send you mine because I never use it but it was so expensive I feel like I need to go on a journey with it to find a way to use it.

      good to know, but sorry it's not working out! Can you build it up at all on the cheeks?

    My juvias place palettes are better than the Just My Luck palette would be for me. Just My Luck may be beautiful, but the range of greens I have within my Juvias Place palettes is better than what Colourpop is offering, though I am sure that Just My Luck will be perfect for someone else.

    I appreciate this. I am the opposite of you. I want sisters in blue, green and purples and having multiples of neutral shades is just absolutely unnecessary for me. My blues, greens and purples have enough sisters though, and I have pretty much every neutral shimmer and matte my heart could want, I just forget about the beautiful neutral shimmers because I don't use them often.

    I do want to Amrezy Highlighter, but I have so many others( none that might not be better), but when it comes down to it, its a highligher. So, I'll make do.

    Do you happen to have Mac blush in “harmony” or something similar? My complexion is close to yours and it works for me in the winter time as a kinda bronzer.
    EDIT: just saw you have a solution. :)

    I have this thing about buying highlighters THAT ARE TOO DARK FOR ME, similar to your bronzer situation. I look at the color and think it’s stunning but it and NEVER wear it because it looks like stripes on my face....

    I bought the cool toned Colourpop palette for a future giveaway, so you'll likely be seeing it pop up soon (lol!), but I can't stand it myself. I understand why people like it, but I have all of these shades in other palettes without question mixed in with brighter colours. And girl, you would look classy / clean / lovely regardless - you have a freaking cute face, and please don't start me on how gorgeous your hair is XD (Still watching as I post this.)

    It's kinda strange for a youtuber to be on a no-buy for a year :o
    I totally get it though, I was on a no-buy for 4-5 months myself but I was saving for a bigger order, so it wasn't fully a no-buy after all :D
