Indian Sissy Bar Installation for Springfield and Chieftain
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 вер 2018
- Welcome back everyone. Today I am showing you a step-by-step installation of the Indian sissy bar onto my Chieftain Dark Horse. This installation will be the same for the Indian Springfield motorcycles and all Indian Chieftain models. I will also be showing you how to remove the Indian touring hard saddlebags in the process of this installation. I am also doing the permanent installation of the sissy bar, which is the same as the quick release installation, I just add the tamper proof bolt so the sissy bar can not be removed and stolen as long as your saddlebags are locked.
You will need the following tools for this installation:
4mm hex head socket
6mm hex head socket
Torque wrench for your sockets (you will need to be able to adjust torque to 25 ft. lbs. of force and 7.5 ft. lbs. of force).

Great install, I like the quick release so I don’t use the lock screws. I recommend getting the rear crash bars. I have them in my chieftain and they saved my saddle bags. When my foot slipped on some gravel and the bike went down. The bike rested very nicely on the front and rear crash bars.
That's my plan! Get those highway bars installed next. How did your front fairing survive? Any scratches or issues?
Great video. I know it's 3 years old but still helpful. I was thinking about having the dealership install one for me. Glad I found this...Looks simple enough I think I'll be installing it myself.
Super easy. Save the money and do it yourself. If you are thinking of doing the trunk with backrest, I have an install video on that as well. Thanks for watching!
Look forward to seeing more of your Dark Horse videos.
Thanks! There will plenty more I promise :)
excellent video
Thank you!
Awesome video. Can’t wait for full review
Thank you! Full review is coming soon!
Excellent step by step thank you 👍
Thanks for watching!
I thought the HD backrest was expensive at $350:00 but Indian takes it to a new level
Yup. Absolutely ridiculous. But there isn't another sissy bar and backrest that has the same quality and comfort available from anyone else right now, and I needed it for the wife. I'm glad I got it, it looks great on the bike, but it is way overpriced....
The greed is strong at Indian they need to get it under control this should cost under $250 max.@@MOTOBLADE
Agreed. My heart wants an Indian Chief Vintage or Springfield. But my brain is saying it's crazy. If they'll charge $700 for an optional sissy bar, what will they take me for when something goes wrong and I *need* parts and labor. Not inspiring confidence. But... It's so beautiful... drool. 🤤
@@JTroskaTV Hopefully you'll have an extended warranty.
I just prepped my 2018 Chieftain Limited by installing the bushings on the spools. The sissy bar would not snap in place, in fact the rear part wouldn't even come close to fitting on the spools I will end up taking off the front bushings in order to get the sissy bar to snap into place. Since the sissy bar has rubber around the front forks, it should keep it from rattling and the rear bushings should keep it snug. I gave up for today but will take the bags off again tomorrow and remove the front bushings and see if I can get it to snap into place. I even used a rubber mallet trying to pop the rear forks onto the spools and it wasn't going to go...ugh! I sure hope it works better tomorrow; however, I thank you for the great video explaining how it all goes together...easy peasy (if it only fit). Thanks!
Sorry yours doesn't fit just right. Hope the video helped in some way. Thanks for watching!
I have the same problem! I bought a new set of bushings for it, the sissy bar fits but now I can’t get the saddle bags to fit in the spools!
Good vid. I subbed to your channel
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Seriously thanks for this. I have a 2022 but concept same 🤌🏼🤌🏼💯😅
You're welcome! Glad to hear I could help a fellow Indian rider!
Nice video. Thanks for showing the install process. Do you have a video for the install process for the quick release saddlebag mount spools?
Good install vid
Thanks!
Where did you find the quick release bolts for the saddlebags?
I got an ultimate seats seat with passenger backrest with the indian sissy bar but the bar didnt come with the screws for the seat. You wouldn't happen to have the bolt size would you? The two for the passenger backpad
Does the plastic bushings comes with the set or we need to order them separately?
Wouldn't happen to have a video of the passenger seat install, would you? What are the parts info for the sissybar?
I do not have a video for the passenger seat yet - But since you asked, I will make one! The part number for the sissy bar is: 2880832-266 Now, you will have to get the padded backrest to add on to it - that number is just for the bar. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
You don’t need the bushings for you?
Are those the stock seats? I’m looking to trade my bike for the 19 chieftain but really like the looks of your seats? Thanks
Yes, these are the stock Indian seats for the 2018 Chieftain. 2019 has a different seat which isn't as comfortable in my opinion, but you can still get these seats from Indian for the 2019.
hello do you know if that fits on the springfied dark horse. is the measure the same
I believe it will fit the Springfield as well. If you want to double check the model year, you can find the sissy bar on IndianMotorcycle.com and see if it fits your exact model and year. They have an easy selection too that shows you for sure.
hello do you know if that fits on the springfied dark horse
I believe it will since they have the same frame in the back between the chieftain and springfield. If you go to Indian Motorcycle's website, then go to the item (sissy bar), it will tell you what models and what years it is compatible with. Hope that helps!
I can't find the bushings. What is the part number?
Just purchased my self a 2019 chieftain dark horse and looking for a back rest, what was the one you got?
I got the Indian one from my local dealer. Can also be purchased on IndianMotorcycle.com
@@MOTOBLADE ok thank you. I've been asking around and people were telling me I had to buy separate brackets than just the one I seen you attache to
@@coreyjacques6948 it went right on mine. No issues.
Do you have a link to the sissy bar? I looked on the Indian site and all they offer is chrome
Yes, here it is. It is the 14" Gloss Black Quick release for Chief, Springfield, and Chieftain models. www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/shop/accessories/seats-backrests/backrests/2880670-266/
I just got mine off of eBay. Great price $238
@@southernboymoneyshipmusicgroup New with bushing?
Did the tampered proof bolt come with the kit?
Yes! The bolt itself isn't really special, it's the fact that one the saddlebags are in place and locked, you cannot access it
Awesome video. Thanks.
what kind of seat is that??
That's just the stock seat from Indian.
Is that the tall or short sissy bar?
That is the tall sissy bar with back rest.
