    Cliff, when I saw your smile I broke out in tears. This man right there and the boys literally saved me two years ago. - What you felt at the end is the"Freddie Effect" as I call it. His spirit and strength comes through so strong when you need it most and can cause these psychosomatic symptoms.- I am just small on YT but I gladly send them all over here if you decide to react to more of their music. The catalogue is endless even without Freddie's solo projects.- I hug you tight ❣

      I discovered Freddie and Queen about 12 years ago when I was suicidal. My ex wife and I were trying to have a baby and one day, she just decided to leave me for another guy. Then she got pregnant. I wanted kids so bad and it really ripped my heart out. And for some reason, I discovered that 4 names I'd heard many times before and 25 songs I knew & heard almost daily were all the same band. Freddie and Queen saved me too. I found out soon that Freddie was so much more than I ever knew: he wasn't just some gay performer and flamboyant LGBT icon like I'd been told for so many years: he was... is... the man who wrote & sang some of the most influential and deep songs humanity has ever heard. He was a kind, sweet man who loved everybody, whether male or female. And because of his love for people, he got AIDS and was taken from the world far too soon.
      I too cannot help but to cry some when I hear Freddie. I've heard this song and watched more people react to this song than I could ever count, and every time it feels like I'm hearing it again for the first time when I see people light up from it. My mom liked Queen as much as I did and she died recently. I'm really trying to believe there's something after death but lately all I think there is, is nothing.
      RIP mom, RIP Freddie. The two of you saved my life. Thank you.

    I read that just when Freddie was "working the crowd", Bri broke a guitar string. You can see him fade to the back to fix it and Freddie was ad libbing to give Bri a little time. You can see Freddie looking behind him to see when Bri come back. And it was utterly flawless. Seamless. Master musicians. All of them.

      @@thewonkyembouchure When guys break a string on stage, they just hand him the back up guitar they had at the ready, already plugged in, with the guitar volume knob on zero. Brian May plays a homemade guitar, of which there is no back up. You would have seen a different instrument in later parts of the video. You can't just put on a new string, and then go to town. It has to be stretched out, then tuned, or repeatedly tuned to stretch it out. That breakdown isn't long enough to complete that process. Furthermore, Brian May uses fresh strings, unlike certain players who like them broken in, like Stevie Ray Vaughan. He probably didn't break too many strings on stage, as defects are rare, and they usually break from being old.

    • @thewonkyembouchure
      @thewonkyembouchure 3 місяці тому

      Brian had a backup copy of the Red Special for this concert (1981); it was made by John Birch in 1975. It can be seen in the official WWRY video. Brian inadvertently destroyed it onstage in 1982. If he did break a string, the copy was available until the original was ready to go. I pre-stretch my back-up strings for gigs; surprised if Brian's technican didn't do the same.

    • @KAEngravingAndGifts
      @KAEngravingAndGifts 2 місяці тому +4

      Regardless of the broken string or not, the band's intelligence flows through. Look at Live Aid, when Freddie's singing Hammer to Fall. He dances with the cameraman and all the cords got wrapped up. Freddie goes to the center of the stage to sing and stays still so the two guys can untangle the cords. You can see the cord get tight and Freddie barely flinches. Then it happens again. You can see Freddie is consciously aware that his mic could unplug accidentally so without even thinking, he grabs the cord so it doesn't get pulled out of the mic. What I always found so cool, is there's a short 3-second clip of Freddie holding the mic and the cord, singling, and putting his hands up. It's pretty humbling because it's just so natural that people don't even notice it. However, and I wish I knew why that clip was chosen, but two short clips of Freddie appear in the ending montage of And the Band Played On, which was a movie made that addressed the beginning of AIDS and set to Elton John's The Last Song. That clip of Fred holding the cord is one of the clips. The other is his performance at Wembley, the Magic tour.

    The talent in og QUEEN was insane, musical on top of scientific education on top of creativity to innovate. Bohemian Rhapsody has never not moved me and the entire premise of creating We Will Rock You was to be entirely participatory. That stomp stomp clap was heard around the world. I remember when I was 4 or 5, sitting cross legged in the living room with my dad. He had my sister and me slap our thighs for the stomps and we would sing we will rock you.
    Freddie was a huge influence in my life. He also helped soften a lot of people to the idea of queerness which helped me (didn't know that for a long time but there it was).
    The movie they made in 2018, with Rami Malek? Was so beautiful and fitting. My dad had an encyclopedic knowledge of the classics and frankly most music from 60s on. And he thought it did them justice. He almost never thought that about whats basically a docudrama for the silver screen.

    I have been a Queen fan for 1976. Almost fifty years. I have been listening to “Somebody To Love” probably 100,000 times. It comes a thrill to hear “Somebody To Love” the first time. It’s a thrill! 😊 As a comment, this song Freddie Mercury said this is the favorite songs. Tops.

    I was privileged to see them in Melbourne Australia in 1985 at the old Sports and Entertainment Centre (now gone). It is without a doubt the most amazing concert that I have ever been to in my life and he was the ultimate showman, played to every part of the crowd and strutted around that stage like it was nothing. His voice, and also the band themselves, were just mind blowing. As I never got the chance to see Pink Floyd live, I have to say that what we saw that night will never be surpassed for me, and we all floated out of that arena afterwards. It was a magical experience. I grew up as a teenager in the mid 70’s lucky enough to see AC/DC with the amazing Bon Scott live at least 6 times and they are just about on a par with Queen for me. It was a brilliant time to be alive for music and I’m so glad that I was born when I was and where I was. Oh to go back and appreciate it all more than we did!

      I had shivers watching Somebody to Love. It’s my favourite Queen track, mainly because George Michael sang it so beautifully with the rest of Queen, at the Tribute concert in 92.

    At about 05:16 of your video you can see Freddie move on the stage towards the crowd. You can see Brian May walking to the back of the stage. I read he broke a string on his guitar and went to get another and that's why Freddie is working the crowd at that point. He's keepin it goin till Brian gets back. You can see him glance over his shoulder to see him back then continues on. :)
    This was reportedly Freddie's favorite of all his songs, even above Bohemian Rhapsody.

    CORRECT,there will never be another Freddie Mercury...HOWEVER,the band Queen is still alive and well today,and still performs. Brian May and Roger Taylor the original guitarist and drummer are still playing,and then Adam Lambert performs Freddie Mercury's lead singer roll. Honestly,having grown up with Queen wait back when...I can't use the phrase Adam is the new Freddie or anything remotely close to that,because as I mentioned in the beginning,there will never be another Freddie,and I don't want folks to misunderstand my words of "New Freddie" for that very reason. Adam Lambert is a great singer,and I give him all the props in the world for being blessed with his voice. But even he himself has commented many times,that he is just honored to be able to be apart of the music history Queen has brought us over the years,and that he will never be like Freddie Mercury,but is gratefully blessed to be able to keep all of his(Freddie's)music alive.

    One of the most talented groups of people to ever take the stage together to make music, with a front-man with supernatural vocal skills, and an aura of charisma that was like looking into the Sun. On their worst day they effortlessly surpass most bands now. What's insane is that I can easily name half a dozen more from the 70's that would do the same.

    I took Queen for granted for 40 yrs. Since the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” I have been listening to and learning more about them and have been verging on obsession, lol. The world was blessed with a tremendously talented musician surrounded by 3 other incredible musicians, it was a terrible loss. I hate he suffered so much in his final yrs and days, as no one that has brought such great musical words and sound does not deserve such torture. I love how Brian and Roger pay their respects constantly and I feel for John showing his by not wanting to go on playing without his great friend. They are a class act. I am so happy their music and documentary info is so available on UA-cam.

      The movie in no way truly represented who they were - and I'm a Queen and Freddy fan, but it was the Disney version of what the remaining band members allowed. Musical geniuses - yes - based on the movie, do your research. Hollywood ain't always what you see.

    @Cliff, after Freddy passed the rest of Queen asked our own Aussie John Farnham to become Queens next lead singer. John was bowled over by their offer but didnt want ro leave Oz and his family. Years later John and lead guitarist Brian May were on stage together when we had a fundraiser for one of our worst bushfires "Black Saturday"2020. Fantastic concert!!!!

Let's just say it influenced me in a way words can't describe, but I've never experienced anything even close to that again in life .
